It's so lovely to see a more mature artist who actually trained and worked in the industry showing how to do makeup! I'm getting so bored of seeing people my age doing looks and using so many unnecessary products and steps! I much prefer looks like these - timeless, professional and most of all EASY! 💕

I mean, Lisa and Charlotte are both her former assistants, that's how big Mary is. I love her style of, well, everything. Mary is such a treat to watch and listen to, truly an amazing, inspiring woman with such uniqueness about her...

this is what I like about Lisa Eldridge, she creates effortless, glamorous looks without slapping a ton of product on the face which is what I think true elegance is about.

in the 'Instagram artist's defence, a lot of their looks require a high skill level. not sure if you watch Wayne Goss, but he did a video recently about how clients these days are asking for the heavy contour or cut crease looks and more traditional artists do not possess that skill level. it's interesting. but makeup is so subjective so it doesn't matter :)

I’m about 50/50 with my tools and fingers. Fingers work fantastic for things. A lot of actually highly skilled, working MUAs are coming out of the woodwork, and they use fingers as tools as well. I find my fingers particularly effective with liquid and cream products, as well as shadows that don’t apply well with dry brushes like toppers/shimmers/duochromes. I apply a lot of these either just fingers or in combination with a tool and I use fingers exclusively for lip products and concealer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Top MUAs do this. I will say, she seemed a bit rough lol.

When they showed the photo of Mary at the Vogue shoot...she has aged so beautifully but also so little!
I can't believe it's been 20 years already since she passed away.
Lisa, it was wonderful that you could get Mary and see her talk about the real makeup Diana wore; it's more of a tribute than if you recreated it and is another reason why you're the best. You know when it's appropriate to step back rather having an ego.

11:51 This is why we should be more critical of gurus. This girl has foundation crease lines on her eyelids. Why? Because that is what the skin does and there is no beauty filter to blur it. By the end, this girl looks flawless but you see the progression without filter. This tutorial shows you what she would really look like, and it shows less is more.
Notice this girl is very young too. So, you can’t say it’s based on age. People like James Charles cake on makeup and it looks horrendous in person but through the beauty filters, you have this false image of flawless application when in reality, it’s not as seemless in person. The brows are crusty, the under eye is dry, the lips are obviously falsely drawn and these people look ridiculous. Same for Nikki too. These gurus look like messes in person but deceive you through beauty filters.
A good example of what they actually look like is Jenna Marbles recreating James Charles and fretting over how cakey it looks and feeling self-conscious because he is not cakey. That’s because he is fooling her and thereby making her feel bad about herself.
    That’s why this is superior.

It's the Kardashian effect of trying to look 'perfect' with all those layers and layers of contour, huge v-shaped eye concealer, false lashes, etc. The instagram age is all about filters and masks, not a natural, sophisticated look like Lisa does. Lisa enhances, while wannabees just want to cover.

Have you not seen her apply that "minimalistic" look with layers of contour, highlight, bronzer, and baking of concealer? Minimalism is something akin to tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara and lip gloss or balm - not layer upon layer of product to freakishly contour a face for social media. Don't confuse lack of colors with minimalism.

Your not putting on 10 layers of foundation and super bright under eye concealer and drawing dark tribal lines all around the face to contour unlike all the makeup you see today on social media. Your take on makeup is very refreshing and simple yet so glam and beautiful and mesmerizing and timeless😍

I understand the restraint you had, Lisa, in posting this video. I'm happy you decided otherwise. I Really love the way you ladies did this. Mary is Always such a pleasure to watch, and hearing her stories... uh! This video is just Amazing. I think it was very appropriate. I am positive that I'm not the only one who remembers where they were, when they heard of her passing. I was only 10 yrs. old, but I was Very aware of her, even before her passing. I had school the day of her funeral broadcasting, but my parents let me tape it. I remember coming home that day and running to watch it. I bought her tribute magazine and the CD. She was a wonderful influence to a 10 yr old girl. It's an impact that's affected many people! Even now, that it's been 20 yrs. later. I still watch the documentaries, and read the articles of the work that she's accomplished through her short life. She was truly one of a kind, to people who didn't know her, but looked up to her. I can only imagine the impact she had on those close to her... Love to you 3 as well as everyone watching! Thank You for this!

abirsashee I'm an actress and the best makeup that has been done on me has always been old-school way. Patiently, with fingers, dabbing it in and making it one with the skin. I have very troubled skin, I'm not the makeup artist's dream face, and the results I've had with that technique are fare better on me.
That's the technique I still use when I want a no-makeup makeup, whenever I have the time to spare (it is more time-consuming, no doubt about that).
I love flat top brushes and my beauty blender for quick application, but this is a technique that should never be discarded.

Living in the US as a Makeup Artist, it´s hard to not get trapped in the "instagram-glam" makeup society, where people thing it´s a natural look to have a cut-crease with 2 pair of lashes, contoured and highlighted light a drag queen and an ombré lip. I´ll bring myself to introduce this type of makeup to more of my clients. Thank you for that! AND of cause, OMG Mary is fabulous. What an Icon... xoxo from Orlando

I absolutely do bc my older sister and younger brother are born on August 31st (6 years apart... My mother is talented😜). I had only lived in America for 8 months at that point, and I remember the news reporting that she had been in a serious car accident in Paris and was in critical condition, and then not long after that, the reports that she had died.
On a personal note I felt terrible for my siblings bc their birthday was now synonymous with the day Princess Diana died, and that's all anyone would remember August 31st for. I was 13 when it happened. I remember the media going nuts at the lack of response from the palace, not even raising the flag at Buckingham Palace at half-mast. It was the week that made or broke the royal family depending on their response, and I remember all of it.
I think I was too young for Princess Diana to really have made any sort of imprint in my brain. I'm the same age, basically, as William and Harry, so all the scandals passed over my head, along with the divorce, her philanthropy... But her death and funeral is something I will never ever forget.

Thank you very very much, I love all of your work and I cherish every drop of happiness that you bring up in my daily life.

This was a joy to watch, true professionals with talent and experience. The best way to honour someone who has passed is for the people who knew and loved them to talk about them. Thank you Lisa!

I've always thought that maybe I was doing my makeup wrong because I didn't do it like I see on UA-cam but I realise I'm more like this lady - hands on and very blended.

I mean, is there a limit to how many times you actually can watch a UA-cam video? Cos I mean, Lisa you are THE best, but this makeup video is nothing I've ever seen before!!!!
I've never been so mesmerized by a video like I was by this one.... I bet I must've swallowed some flies if it had been summertime cos I kept my mouth open the entire time in pure awe...
I will learn all this in my sleep.... wow!😍

For me Princess Diana will always be the most beautiful woman I ever saw. She was iconic, unforgettable, incredible eyes and that signature hairstyle. That incredible beauty has pass on to her children, a testimony/legacy of her love for everyone, especially her children. I can't imagine how much her children must miss her more each day.

I think what I love most about Lisa's videos is that her and the other artists do such beautiful makeup whether it be full glam or everyday, they promote natural beauty and teach you to enhance what you already have and not hide it

Lisa could you pleaseeeee do a series with experienced makeup artists like the lovely mary ..far less pretentious than most makeup enthusiasts nowadays ..which is a sort of weird irony to me and i learn so much and feel so happy when i see them do things i do instinctively as well

She did bring in Charlotte Tillbury and Michael Ashton (Adele's makeup artist) for other videos.

This is a perfect look. I love how the makeup enhances the models beauty and features rather than changing her into a different person. Very natural, beautiful and worth recreating again and again with different colors.
