I agree! However, we must give a credit to the Romanian team that pushed the Soviets to their limits and perfections by winning 1987 WC team gold. After that loss, the Soviets become much more focused, angry and competitive that produced probably the best women's gymnastics team in the Olympic and WC histories! Would not you agree with me?
@@bbatjargal1549 really miss seeing them competing. After 85 Romania got so much better, and the 88 competition was very strong. But I think that if it was today’s code of point URSS would win even more medals, because their difficulty was always higher than the others. The first double back, first full in, first double double, first backflip with full twist at beam … Romania always has really beautiful execution but their moves were easier than the Soviets, who did with great execution as well. In my opinion 1985-1989 was the best gymnast time, the highest level of competition and great gymnasts
After being made to wait with the confusion over Strazheva, and the number. She could have fallen apart under all of that pressure, and being so young, but she was a badass, as you said!
I miss floor being a whole picture kind of thing (choreography and tumbling married into one) rather than just non stop passes. I more blame the COP for not allowing this kind of thing to not flourish. As someone said it should be "70's/80's choreography with today's difficult passes"
Same. I had recently mentioned that for a different video. But now so much heavy tumbling that the choreography is basically resting and regroup for the next pass.
It’s the code, the strictness of deducting for any movement that could be seen as a mistake, the sheer difficulty of the tumbling, and the the dance elements becoming more important to the D-score with the execution scores requiring exact positions and higher amplitude coupled with complete splits/turns or risk receiving no credit for the skill… all the above was achievable during the golden era with A-B dance skills but with gymnasts needing to do C, D, and even E dance skills… yeah, they really need to rest to make sure they get credit for all the elements but to also minimize deductions.

Все нервы мы оставили, глядя на это чудо, но были счастливы, ликовали, кричали от счастья! Это незабываемо даже спустя 35 лет! Браво! В этом противостоянии все девчонки хороши, думаю они бы и сейчас дали всем фору и соревновались бы только со своими же, только уже российскими девчонками - такая сила, мощь, артистизм и отточенная грация завораживает!

Chevchenko’s tumbling may have had major form issues, but she was the truest dancer in the entire games. She could have had a career as a dancer on Broadway.

Elena Shushunova was the only one that really lived up to the expectations people have of a SOVIET FLOOR EXERCISE. Her routine was stellar and highlighted by impassioned, sensual dance combined with spectacular difficulty. Natalia Laschenova and Svetlana Boguinskaya were still "works in progress". Captivating but not fully realized potential. Yelena Shevchenko performed a fascinating Panther 💗 routine that she had in her arsenal for years, but in Seoul, she seemed indifferent and uninspired!
