Cuando la gimnasia ARTISTICA todavia valia la pena.
USSR, Romania, and East Germany--clearly the big three in gymnastics at that time. Even today Russia and Romania still have some of the best training programs in the world for this sport. On behalf of the United States of America, hats off to all three of these teams.
***** under the auspices Revolution, everyone was successful...
Russia is not the same as the USSR.
iamkarenh Once it's Soviet, Russian forever SOVIET!!!!
It's still not the same.
iamkarenh If you see Victory day every year, Russian army always bring Soviet flag!!!
SOVIET FOREVER!!!!!!
For my ears "USSR" still sounds more epic than anything.
Huh?
Yeah, a country that had horrible men like Lenin and Stalin at the head of their government. A country that persecuted its own people for 70 years, and Eastern Europe for half a century. A country that allowed no freedom of speech, religion, or press. A country that abused its athletes with barbaric methods. That's epic alright.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@Johannes Cailles Guttenburg According to the A&E documentary More Than a Game, the Soviet coaches would have some of their gymnasts impregnated so that they could absorb the nutrients of a pregnant woman. After that, they would abort the baby. Former Soviet gymnasts who coach in the US and Canada like Olga Korbut and Elvira Saadi have been reported for abuse. I know the American gymnastics system has had its share of abuse, but it was not systemic abuse and the coaches were later caught and fired. The Soviet coaches, on the other hand, were never fired and the athletes would have most likely never been allowed to compete if they tried to report their coaches to anyone. That is how they abused their athletes.
And become more epic if "USSA" 😎🙌
Elena Shushunova, such a badass, RIP
wtf? why rip?
@@mrnoob39 Sadly, she passed away, she was only 49 years old.
@@carolynrabbani6469 How?

Pneumonia hates shushunova :(
The total and complete dominance of the Eastern Block - Soviet Union, Romania, and the German Democratic Republic!
Aurelia, Daniela, Elena, Svetlana...
I think the most interesting aspect of this footage is how you get to see the gymnasts' faces so up-close... Shushunova had a very rare eye colour, Shevchenko was beautiful, and Boguinskaya's face was one of the most exotic I've ever seen...
And they were teenagers. Creepy
My favorite team was the Soviet Team, but GDR team just won my heart!
All their flags were rise last time in The Olympic Games
That is all correct. Romania was under a vicious dictatorship, even worse than the Soviets. I was always uncomfortable with the Romanians then, it the same I am with North Korean gymnasts now, they too were not allowed to mix with others And the Romanian supporters were the party workers that were allowed out of Romania. Getting rid of that industrial symbol was very important for Romania. Nobody at this time imagined what would happen. Even at the 1989 Worlds, about two weeks before the Berlin Wall came down, nobody knew that change would come fast. And Nelson Mandela was realised in 1990.
all their flags are communist
When will the same happen to the evil CCP who created the W.u.h.a.n Virus and worked side by side with the evil big techs like UA-cam to silence all critics?

I regret what happened to you as a Chinese.
Indonesia for soviet..uraaaaa
You must blame two subjects - the Idiotic and childish Gorbachev, and the naive and stupid Soviet people! Look at the Chinese: Deng was smart, and the Chinese people are much smarter than Soviets, and the Chinese always knew that the West's ultimate intention to harm you and your country, period!

After the Moscow & Los Angeles boycott, this was the real competition.
And Soviets became winners of that battle. It once again confirmed Soviets' supremacy in the world sport...

I like the modern day leotards, with their colour and splash, but few are more iconic than the Leo's worn by the Romanians and Russians at these Olympics ❤️

Two things I noticed for the first time: first, Martina Jentsch, who was injured and couldn't compete in the team final, was able to walk out for the medal ceremony. Makes me wonder if she was really injured or something else was going on. Second, after the East Germans got their medals, two were ready to walk off the podium before the anthem. You'd think they'd never been a part of a medal ceremony before.
Probably she would have failed a drug test
@@metsdudenj Exactly what I was thinking regarding Jentsch.
She had two broken feet.
@@Dutchfan33 Seems to be walking very well for having two broken feet. I'm sorry, but I question her injury.
@@DesertStreams002 I’ve read a interview with Martina, she said that the coaches wanted her to compete in the team finals. After she refused she got the cold shoulder from them,Later when it turned out that both of her feet were broken, some of them apologized to her.
I believe that Brandy Johnson also competed with broken feet at the 1989 worlds.
After fours years later, all the flags of the medalists changed.
Good Quality vídeo...nice
Not exactly. I remember the U.S. potentially finishing in the bronze medal position but there was some controversy over an American girl remaining on the podium while her teammate was on the bars (Phoebe Mills i think). The U.S. Team was then given a 3-tenth deduction from their Team Standing and that's exactly what they lost by. From what i heard, there were a handful of German judges underscoring the American Team and overscoring the German Team as well.
jaydee103 yes, but was Ronda Phane standing in the podium during Kelly Garrison's routine
Although Soviet lost in Cold War, Soviet won in Sports Competition after boycott of LA and Moscow
A really good competition nobody with asthma there!

The anthem of the former USSR (or URSS in French and in your case) is Russia's national anthem since 2001 and is still in use today.

There's something odd about seeing the soviet flag in an everyday situation like this
The Olympics are not every day, but it certainly is very strange seeing it because of the political situation during the 19th century.

Svetlana Boginskaya !
How come 5 are on the Soviet team podium and 6 for the rest?
Was the best gymnastics team event ever. I remember watching it. Shouting for Daniella.
The 6th one, Olga Strazheva, was in hospital, watch here:
ua-cam.com/video/Wk0XrBoAqIo/v-deo.html
Olga Strazheva injured her knee during her balance beam routine. She had to be carried off the podium. From there, the Soviet team had to finish with 5 athletes. No problem.
Ok now it makes sense. I wouldn't want to miss the medal ceremony. Kerri Strug as you know injured her ankle on the vault obviously and still went to the medal ceremony.
USSR was last time in Olympic. 1992 won United Team, 1996 USA, 2000 Romania, 2004 Romania, 2008 China, 2012 & 2016 USA and 2020 Russian olympic team

It’s sad how Olga straheva didn’t get to stand on the podium with her team
And yet, Martina Jentsch withdrew from the team finals because of an injury, but miraculously was able to walk to the podium in full leotard to get the bronze medal.
What are you talking about? We already know that the USSR won the gold and we also know that Romania won the silver. And this isn't a montage this just a video showing the medal ceremony.
7:41 Shushunova speaks U-S-S-R..
I love the background music! the traditional korean instrumental, curious what's the titlw of that song?
It is called arirang.
@@terry3872 so sorry but do you know the version of this kind of arirang like in this video, i already tried searching for Arirang but that all was sounds like sorrow 🙏
@@benkyo5177 yes. You are right. Original version is slow and sorrowful. I tried to find more cheerful version. But all that I found was more of techo version. It is typed 아리랑 in Korean. I will look around and if I find anything I will post the link.
Do I really hear the melody of Arirang?
Who was the Soviet gymnast missing? I know she was injured towards the end of the team competiton.
Mischa Med olga strazheva
thank U !
People have to be inconsequential and gullible to say the USA does not have the most clout in global sports & the Olympics. To claim that the USA was shortchanged and didn't form alliances of their own with countries like FRG, CAN, GBR, FRA, etc. is a distortion of facts. The IOC and FIG bend over backwards for the USA for financial reasons! The USA was fortunate that their form and artistry weren't scrutinized more because they were far from poised and captivating!
Shushunova, was the only one singing.
how about Baitova 7:50 I think she singing too!
Long live the Soviet Union!
Iman gymfans aw, who hurt you, babushka? Vodka? 😎🤣
I would have to agree with you!
The sixth soviet, Olga strazheva, was injured during competition
She couldn't do a Kerri Strug? 😂😂😂
I believe the reference was to how Kerri still appeared on the podium despite being injured
