Did you catch Nadia carrying the Olympic torch at the Paris 2024 opening ceremony alongside legends like Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams? What a spectacular show that was!
What did you think of the ceremony? Is there anything in particular you're looking forward to in these Olympics?
No, I don't have cable.
Gymnastics of course
Yes I watched it and to see her my mind went to 1976 when I watched her on our TV in Tehran Iran and three years later my family and I left Iran in 1979 after radical Islamists occupied my ancestral homeland to this day. It was sort of different that she’s old and I am old and we both live in US. As a little girl she was my idol and that summer of 1976 I tried to do her moves on our Persian carpet. 🥰
I didn't see that! Darn.
@@Dera9791I'm sorry that you had to leave your homeland but glad you're here in the US. You and Nadia are both Americans now❤
Nadia's life is a moving story of bravery😐strength, determination, perseverance and courage in dark times and then success...she is the epitome of a true winner...a legend in sports and in life ❤️💚
I am the same age as Nadia and still remember so clearly watching her on our black and white television in Australia. I was absolutely in awe of her and wished to be like her. Nadia is one of the most talented and memorable athletes in the world.
I’m a 1961 Aussie baby like you. Everyone loved her in Australia.,I thought she was marvellous but always looked so sad. My mum told me what her country and her people were going thru and then I found out how she was treated by the adults in her life at the time. I am so blessed to have been born in a country that’s democratic and free. I’m glad her life improved.
Same but in America. I was born 1963
@@pamparker6876 she comes across as so sweet and young and sad. You just want to hug her and tell her it’s ok. I remember asking my mum why she never smiled and my mum said “neither would you if you had her life”
Queen of Gymnastics!!💖🙌
I AGREE with you 1000% but Simons she very good to very good ,personality not so good but ? 2 DIFFRENT girls from 2 DIFFRENT countries 🤔 well? 🤗
I am from the Philippines, our Caloy Yulo, two times gold winner from the last Paris 2024 gymnastics brought me here…I am already 69 yrs old, Nadia Comaneci, I remembered her she was famous on her time..now I seen and how hard she performed into perfection….thanks for uploading..❤❤❤ is cried after I finished watching😢😢😢
Oh Nadia you certainly are a strong lovely beautiful woman. Loved your performance at the 1976 Olympics. I was glued to the TV at that time and i wouldn't have traded it for anything. You are the best gymnast that ever will be. Love you Nadia. ❤❤❤❤
No one will ever be like Nadia
Irreplaceable.
She's just Iconic !
Yes just irriplasiple.
I'm sure there will be others in time, maybe when we are not in this earth
She’s been through so much just as a little girl 💕I have so much respect and admiration for her.
Trailblazer!
Nadia and Olga will ALWAYS be my favourite!
Perfect 10 the most memorable moment 🥰
I went to watch her in my hometown of Montreal. It was truly the talk of the entire Olympics! Everyone became obsessed with her, couldn't get enough on the news, magazines, little girls everywhere for the longest time wanted to be like her.
Nadia Comăneci is the true gymnastics #GOAT!🤸🏻♀️🐐🥇

Simone Biles is undeniably the GGOAT=Greatest Gymnast Of All Time. No argument here. 😊

Black beauty will never be graceful in your insignificant opinion, but Simone Biles and other powerful black female athletes are rock’n it at Olympics ‘24 with their amazing talent and the whole world sees it.
And, Oh, those magnificent, beautiful black bodies are absolutely stunning! This is Team USA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸. We’re so proud of them! They went for the gold and they brought home the gold. Don’t be a hater.😊
@@miaj94 nah, I'm just telling the truth, that's not artistic gymnastics, they are good acrobats... I like they're black beautiful bodyes ; I also like they're faces, especially Simone Biles face
Greatest female gymnast 🤸♀️ of all time. ❤❤❤
Nadia, a Romanian girl transcended to the sporting world of gymnastics her name will never be extinguest and irreplaceable in gynastic history.
Nadia is an introvert, and I’m certain all those people pushing up against her in those victorious days in 1976 was a challenge. But introvert or not, she will remain a legend in gymnastics even nearly fifty years later.
Nadia was the greatest gymnast for a few years, then other greats came along and excelled in the sport. Nadia had her own style as Simone did. Both superb athletes.
@@julieann4616maybe a grammar mistake?
Noone even comes close to nadia as an olympian.... yes there are other greats but none like her she stands above
The amazing thing about Nadia was that she never hesitated between movements.
Nadia is a popular culture ICON! She's emblazoned in a lot of our childhood memories. Her achievements remain unsurpassed because of the historical and political context. She catapulted to fame without social media and lucrative endorsements, like current champions. Also, the equipment has changed drastically. Today's gymnastics is very acrobatic.
Nadia was always very down to earth and authentic. She didn't rely on theatrics or an Instagram post about her relationships, to captivate people. Her gymnastics was fascinating and she was intriguing!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
❤❤.Un talent enorm
@@gaelgarciabernal2434 She's also on social media in the modern era.
You do realize that we are all watching & discussing Nadia right now ON SOCIAL MEDIA?! And this is a different era. EVERYONE'S lives were more private back then. Now everyone & their brother is OVERSHARING, & often presenting a facade of their life. And people are watching it! Apparently everyone has hollow, shallow, boring lives. All this shit would stop if companies weren't making money from it! Plus, the English-speaking world today loves to tear people down, gossip, make accusations, spread conspiracy theories, etc. If you are a young person who is NOT on social media, people are going to be sus. Something like 50% of young people want to be "influencers". Also, it's not just young people who are "attention whores"; it's disgusting how parents use their kids on social media for their own narcissistic purposes. There are so many things to condemn online that someone posting about their relationships, unless they are trashing other people, seems pretty innocent. Of course, IDK to whom or what you are referring because, while I have an Insta account, that's only so I can comment on something I might discover from following a link. I've never posted anything & rarely am ever on the site. YT is pretty much the only social media I use & I'm on here every day, but I don't follow celebrities. I'm curious about ideas & learning, not gossip or drama, so I don't seek that stuff out.
So nice to see small Nadia in actual footage...the competition was intense
She was and is an amazing childhood memory for me. ❤❤
Nadia was the best! Those girls worked so hard in such terrible conditions and deserved all the medals they got.
Nadia was the best!! Absolute perfect in all categories!! & her landings perfect perfect perfect!! The girl is bad to the bone!!!
the perfect one ever. The greatest female gymnast.
I.m from the Philippines. And I was 8 years old when I first heard the name NADIA COMANECI. And now, While watching this video, I kept pausing to wipe away my tears.
Nadia may have been out of shape and lacked a bit of training at 1978 worlds but she still won a gold and two silver medals.
That's how it is when you are the GOAT 😎😎
One of the best documentaries I have seen.
Seeing Nadia free and happy brings tears to my eyes of joy.
Good for her. I AM PROUD
Siempre fue feliz . Vivía con sus padres y se desarrolló en una disciplina que amaba❤
I always thought Nadia was not happy where she was. I felt sad whenever I saw the little girl on TV who never smiled. I had no idea what she endured as a child. Nadia is the most decorated Gymnast I have ever watched on TV. I never knew the details of her defection. Now, I know she is one of the most bravest and determined Woman in Gymnastics that ever lived. I cannot express how happy I am to see her have the freedom that so escaped her when she was young. She is a role model for every Woman in our Country. All I ever wanted was to see her happy and smiling. She has finally obtained that happiness and I applaud her! There will never again be a perfect 10 like Nadia, ever ❤️❤️💙
I totally agree

This was a great video. Taught me alot about Romania and what my grandparents survived. Nadia is the best at this sport.
NADIA SHE'S MY HERO SHE'S SO TOUGH ! 😍
Nadia was the very best there was. Then they changed the rules and no one got to challenge Her results. There will never be anyone better.
Nice story but the rule changes applied to everyone and Nadia though impressive in Montreal had some real gift scores that she didn't deserve after 1976
@lenr112 Nadia deserved better then her court country gave her. She worked hard for everything she got and her country literally took advantage of her. Not fair at all. She's so much better here in America.
Nadia is my all-time favorite! Amazing!
As young gymnasts competing in the early 80's, Nadia ❤ was our hero! And yet, not much was known about the political strife and opression she endured in her native country. As a free spirit flying on those uneven bars like a wild bird, it's no surprise she flew towards freedom. She paved the way for many gymnasts to come and instilled a sense of nostalgia for those of us who revelled in the sport of that time. Nadia forever!
Superb training, discipline from her parents
Lludmilla, Olga, Nadia....the 3 that changed gymnastics forever.
Her balance is perfect can not be compared even up to now. Irreplaceable.
There should be a 3 hour Nadia Comaneci movie
I remember nadia comaneci year 70s my idol and beautiful ❤
A 14 year old girl from a country hardly anyone had ever heard of. A country that was reeling with political strife and immense difficulties. Yet with everything against her she scored seven 10s in gymnastic. Something unheard of.
When she finished her uneven bars routine they waited. The scoreboard read 1.0. Her trainer Bela Karoli went to the judges to to inquire the scire. People were flabbergasted. "That was a perfect routine!" The programmers of the scoreboard did not include a 10 since they thought no one would achieve such perfection so they stopped at 9.99 But they conceded that it was a 10. A perfect score even if the scoreboard could not show it. Nadya went on to achieve some seven 10s. Something ubheard of for a 14 year old from a country hardly anyone knew.
Nadya is history. No one can repeat her mastery, bravery and perseverance.
Nadia is the GOAT of gymnastics!!!🎉

Nadie como Nadia
The first gymnast I remember watching was Olga Korbet. Then came Nadia, she and I are the same age. I absolutely loved watching her fly through the air and dance to the music from The Young and the Restless which was then renamed as "Nadia's Theme". To this day, I watch the gymnastics every Olympics.
I am full of love and admiration for her forever ❤
I was so in love ❤ with Nadia.
So was I and I was 6 years old in '76. I thought she was so pretty
I actually did meet her on a gymnastics tour. I took in 1998….. in Romania! She is absolutely just the most humble kind person I ever met in my life!!! she is So grateful for all her accomplishments… What a wonderful lady she is and has grown up to be!! class act no doubt!!!! And I do gotta say….. not taking anything away from Simone Biles, she’s fantastic too!! however, I do disagree with Simone being the greatest of all time!!!! Nadia is the one!!!! Nadia is the one that set the standards!!! Nadia was the one who made such an impact on the sport of gymnastics!!!! Nadia is the greatest of all time ❤❤
I think she was ahead of her time.
God blessNadia and her family , her country to where she is now
I was so shocked when Bela and Marta defected to the USA, but when Nadia did it years later, I was so happy for her. No more pressure, able to live in freedom!
She was my idol way back when!

Till this day she’s the best to ever do it.
An amazing fusion between mind and body made visible to large audiences in the 20th century. She enhanced significantly the noble coat of arms of the Olympic contest.
In addition , Comăneci is a beautifull Romanian name with a suble intrinsec musicality.
You are one of a great lady gymnast, you are a beautiful in inside/out, God Bess you.
Nadia did way more for this sport than anyone in history. Simone never had her very own theme song. And Nadia was only 14 years old!!!
It must be tough to achieve such a feat at such a young age and then having to keep up with that level
Neither did Nadia. Her theme song was the theme to the daytime drama The Young and the Restless
They're both quality athletes.
@@janetmiller2980so effing what?! Nadia revolutionized the sport. Every competition in the world was televised because of the interest she created. I’m not begrudging anyone else’s success. Nadia was light years ahead of her time. At 14!!! What was Simone doing at 14?!
@@paulbutler1873 Simone Biles was most likely a junior elite at 14. Comparing Comaneci and Biles is a rather pointless effort.
The rules of elite gymnastics had changed by the time Simone Biles became a senior competitor. While young women before about the 90s could compete as senior elites at 14, the rules changed to a 16 minimum for senior elite and international competition.
Most likely though, Simone was a junior elite. The rules have changed so international senior competitors are older, and the revamped scoring system discourages artistic creativity in favor of athletic difficulty, but I still believe it's crass to diss the younger generation of gymnasts.
Ms. Comaneci had more of an artistic grace and peaked early--yet by 22 was burned out and retired. There are several athletes still competing into the 20s and beyond, even after marriage and motherhood, and I think that's great!
Have a great rest of your night.

This documentary shows us how olympic gymnastics in the late 20th century was essentially a second cold war, with prestige and soft power as the main prize. Károly's defection to the US was very interesting to know about, and I had no clue that Comaneci defected to Hungary before taking asylum in America. Truly, she has lived through a very difficult early life, and she deserves all of the peace and privacy that she wishes for. Her famous olympic scores may have been 10s, but I think she deserves 10+ for her shere strength to continue on throughout very difficult times.
These comments are disgusting…the last thing Nadia would want is to talk down about another amazing gymnast just to prop her up. Very unsportsmanlike and toxic. She would never.
❤ Nadia, Olga, Simone ❤
I like Nadia, Olga, Ludmilla, and most of the 1960s through early 1980s gymnasts. Gymnastics lost its artistics in the early 1990s to now. I still like the mens gymnastics.
Excited for the Paris Olympics starting in a couple of weeks?
@@SLICE_Who not really. I stopped watching years ago because the beauty of it is gone. The female gymnasts are robotic, non ballet and non choreographed in the beam and floor. The Uneven Bars seem like 10 miles apart. Vault is a weird looking contraption. Again 195Os to late 1980s was the great eras for artistic gymnastics. Today its robotic more stress on extreme difficulty.

Simon Biles is amazing, but she doesn’t look smile or walks like Nadia. Nadia’s personality and forced smiled made her iconic. She was only 14 and her amazing routines were perfection - and not to mention not over stepping on landing- and all that perfection under a dictator and war. that made her the most graceful gymnastic of all times. She gave pony tales and wrists bands a meaning. All 80s girls us wanted to be Nadia
What are u comparing for ?

Their times sports was really built on natural strength practice discipline and unbiased judges unlike today it’s bought score givers and pumped with steroids strength, and lot of other manipulations in ego battles
Nadiavis the best of all time
Bad rumors say ..some sports are not a good business 😢😢😢well, what a painful emptiness without them, let's get back that sweet feeling instead. During the Cold War, the Communist regime wanted to care of sports education in schools, it was a good decision, everybody let them kids enjoy sports education because you never know, only training kids surface the big champions, this gorgeous Nadia's story is the prove, athlets are like artists, they have a unique gift, a natural talent out of ordinary that must be exploited. If there's no chance for training, it's a huge loss for everybody.. for all countries and for all schools world wide 😢😢😢
You are correct melani monica.
I was a teen in 1976 now I’m 63 and I remember going for her because she was so cute lol 😂
She can moved fast B'cause She is light & Slim...❤ so thats why She wins Champion..🏅🏅🏅🏅
Niadia was unknown and shocked the world the judges and the press.. the press (they were all releasing press articles about the russian gymnasts and Olga Korbut) until the tsunamu of perefct 10s from Nadia.. they rode with her subsequent the performances and made her the "Montreal Olympic Darling"...
Nowadays the press MAKES superstar athletes.....
This documentary is helping us understand, gymnastic competitions are made for young girls ... from 12 to 16 years old, when they turn 18 they are already big heavy and ..out of shape, the career is over when other athlets just begin to shine, 18 years old. Nadia is a very Romanian kind of creature, such hard worker, discipline is her main nature, the strong sense of duty but patriotism as well, for her pride any sacrifice is worthy, any sacrifice for her people, that's what we call...very hearty ones, their hearts beat only for the pride to belong a certain nation, something all sports champions should feel, having the double speed and motive to break the limits, it's a feeling that becomes a human value beyond any job, later on, it's a great feeling I love a lot and I could never give up on
You are correct,melani monica.
No muscular sausage packed modern gymnast today can ever outshine this authentically demure and elegant first ever perfect 10.
Her skills were masterful and a work-of-art. She did not need a heavily padded thick mat unlike what gymnasts use today.
Gymnastics now is plain boring even with their quintuplet spins and mile high jumps.
I so agree with you! There is no elegance in the sport.
On Wikipedia it says she won two gold medals on 1980 Moscow ???
I feel sorry that inspite her victory, her government never uplifted her life status. I am happy at the end that she defected from her country and find a better life in the United States. She is still victorious at the end. Good luck Nadia.
the perfect 10 scoring system ended in 2006 now there's a difficulty score and an execution score and the Vaults are averaged so say a Gymnast does a Yurchenko double pike with perfect landing the top score they could get would be 16.4 and a Cheng Difficulty 6.0 with execution out of 9.9
Two goal medalist couple 🥹🥹😭😭😭
