I loved watching her. I was back then drawn between Shevchenko and Shoushounova. I did get to see Khorkina on the bars. I think what struck me the most is both her charge/run up at the vault made her look like she was going to run into and tackle it. and the punch backs and the fx Straddle jump to land in front lying support (Schuschunova); also with 1/2 turn (180°) Hop with 1/1 turn (360°) to straddle and land in prone position. those moves seem to have vanished to a formula anymore.
I am such a huge fan of her... and it is funny that you mentioned the way she was running up to the Horse Vault. This reminded me of my younger years when I was also training in a gymnastics club. After seeing her on the TV in 1985 I switched my running up and also used my arms before touching the Horse the way she did.... and my coach was freaking out. I did not do a Yurtchenko, since it was not really practiced by guys in the midst 80's and he said... what is this flailing good for?
