I was diagnosed with sleep apnea at only 19, I still remember not wanting to use my CPAP. I was embarrassed of it and felt like I shouldn’t have to rely on something for my health. Let me tell you a CPAP is a life saver and will improve almost every aspect of your life. Since beginning treatment my symptoms of depression are almost none, I am alert, focused, and generally more motivated. If you are feeling embarrassed or skeptical the same way I did, please give it a shot.
So if I go to a sleep specialist will they just tell me to lose weight? That cannot happen over night, and I’m super exhausted all the time and I’m tired of hearing that, and I have been trying to lose weight. Happened to me right now.. My nose is blocked so I was breathing through the mouth, my airflow was blocked, I woke up opened my eyes but I could not move. Not at all. Happened again. It's so scary tbh
I have severe OSA. I’ve tried everything. Health was getting worse and worse. Finally found a few things that work to eliminate it for me completely. I now have 0 apnea’s and I put in a lot of time to figure this out. Hope it helps someone struggling out there. 1. Sleep on a slight incline (pillows, wedge or raise head of bed 6 inches), 2. critical to always sleep on side, 3. I use a boil and bite mandibular advancement device off of Amazon $50 (this is the best thing I’ve found to remedy my OSA) 4. No coffee/tea (my apnea’s have always been much worse if I do). The best thing I’ve found to normalize the horrible feeling from a Sleep Apnea Hangover (i call it) is Wim Hof Method guided breathing(UA-cam or the WHM app) It takes 15 minutes and it completely re-oxygenates the body and brain to reverse the damage from oxygen deprivation through the night. Sometimes I’ll do 45 minutes and it’s fantastic. It brings back a healthy and calm state of being for the rest of the day. I was in such a fog and had a ton of anxiety from OSA for years until I tried it. Gave up on cpap after a year and a half last year and I’ve finally discovered these things that work for me. I tried wim Hoff, it made my anxiety worse. Although I still do the cold showers. I used to get really strong adrenaline rushes a few hours after the morning breathe work and headaches so I had to stop. It was sending my anxiety throguh the roof

I got sleep apnea. 112,5 times every hour, i stopped breathing. 8h = 900 times. And i got symptoms 3-4 years before i got that as a diagnose. And i was 22 years old. Very unusual. It would takes months to get me a machine and such stuff. But i only had to wait 2 weeks because it was very dangerous number. For that young age. When i got the machine. I got from 112.5 to 0,0-0.3 every night. A truly life saver. I never got a good sleep in 3-4 years, maybe even more. I never slept deeply. Imagine sleeping for 1-2 h every night. For 3-4 years or even more. Thank you for the CPAP machine. Saved my life and i changed so much.
If you have sleep apnea untreated, do you still dream ? I have started to wake up before I can sleep short of breath with a very dry throat and blocked nose sometimes but no one has ever told me that I snore and I am not overweight. I am still having dreams in my sleep.
I resisted getting a CPAP machine due to pride/ego bs. Because I was only 33 when I needed it and I associated CPAP machines with old men. I’ve been using it EVERY night for 15 months now and it’s DRASTICALLY changed my life for the better. I used to jump out of bed in the middle of the night DESPERATELY trying to get air. My heart would race. I’d be pacing around the room breathing as if I’d just run a marathon. I eventually resorted to sleeping while sitting upright on the side of the bed because I just couldn’t breathe laying down. I took naps daily. I was EXHAUSTED. Headaches, sadness, and irritability were the norm. I took a sleep apnea test and was diagnosed with the most severe stage. My blood oxygen level went down to 68% when I was sleeping (that’s really bad) and I stopped breathing on average of once every 30 seconds while sleeping. Point being, if you need CPAP therapy and you have the ability to get it, GET IT!!
What’s the process for getting that machine? I'm certain I have apnea, and I think it's pretty severe. My mom and sister are at their wit's end because my snoring is incredibly loud. Last time, my mom even mentioned seeing my stomach moving as if something was alive inside. I'm 33, and I've had several episodes where I wake up gasping for air, literally screaming for help while running around at 3 AM! 😆 I have been like this for more than 2 years, I think, and I feel I gotta go because apnea is dangerous. I heard people had died while sleeping
My dad actually has this. I would be scared when he sometimes woke up. I thought he was not a deep sleeper. He would always be energetic but i never thought he had this. Even though he died 2 years ago, i still miss him sometimes woke up and sleep back. Usually when he woke up, he said if i was okay and continue sleeping. Rest in Piece.
So yea parents don't listen and think it those games so yea even you get hurt or something sick they think it games or something so they don't take you to doctor or thinking your lying and bring you to school when I have sore eyes my dad thinks it normal and brought me to school then my teacher notice send me home so yea they think it games or idk so yea

I'll start using it again now. I have tried recently, but the hardest part is keeping that darned mask on all night. I have this habit of taking it off during the middle of the night for some reason...
Hope this helps anyone going through this. I have experienced sleep apnea when I gained weight and whenever I was sleeping on my back. To avoid getting suffocated and waking up multiple times during the night, I simply slept on my stomach. It prevented my tongue muscle from relaxing onto my throat and suffocating me.
This is a great solution. Since sleeping on your stomach can be a difficult position for your spine to be in, you can help your spine by placing pillows under your chest and under your hips. This way, the curve in your lower back is maintained while on your stomach.

truly believe that...people need to have a vision of themselves exercising...you will become much more healthier and have such a positive outlook on life...think of your body like a machine..to an extent...exercising helps it become more efficient

I have obstructive sleep apnea. The sleep study showed that I stopped breathing roughly 186 times an hour, not a night but every single hour. It was one of the worst cases the sleep specialist I was seeing at the time had ever seen. I now use a CPAP machine every night. Still absolutely fatigued every single day though. My sleep specialist has me on 40 mg of Adderall per day to combat the daytime sleepiness.
It was a very informative video. I am Dr Kanchan from Bibo. More than half of the population snores, but only 1-2% have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Snoring once in a while is okay, but snoring for a long period (and daily) can be a concern. It is always good to talk to a specialist about this, as OSA can increase the risk of heart problems (like stroke and heart attacks) and other health-related issues.

Jimi. Although linked to excess weight, individuals of normal weight can and do suffer from sleep apnea. For those with congenital anatomic issues, no diet will change that.
I just did a home sleep study test. My doctor told me I quit breathing 61 times a minute. I went to see her because of headaches, fatigue and because I often have dreams where I am struggling to breathe. Next step is a sleep study test at the clinic so a formal diagnosis can be given. But she said a CPAP would help my whole life be better!! My only reservation is having to wear basically a face mask because I’m extremely claustrophobic
i was diagnosed back in 2006 obstructive sleep apnea everything you see in the video is correct i had the symptoms my advice to you guys see your doctor and set an appointment for sleep clinic they will send you a small device to take home and follow the procedures my doctor prescribed me a CPAP machine and im so grateful and full of ENERGY everyday when i go to work and not fallin asleep while driving in the middle of the day but you need to loose weight i drinking soda and alcohol and i lost 15 pounds in a year i dont go to the gym you just need to walk everyday at least an hour a day and drink lemon water it works for me so goodluck to you all!
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 16 they looked in the back of my throat not only cause I would get strep throat a lot but cause they was wondering why I was sounding like a cow when I slepted and first they noticed I needed my tonsils removed because they were huge! So they decided for my safety to get a sleep study and it came back that I had severe sleep apnea my heart would beat really fast and they said that my heart would skip a beat 69 times per minute I thought it was impossible but they said it was possible but luckily I was able to get my tonsils removed but after that my sleeping did get a lot better but I kinda do still snore kinda hard but they said maybe my weight could also be a factor to that.
My 37 year old brother recently collapsed and died from a stroke. He was healthy and never smoked or did hard liquor in his life. He would only drink beers in social settings, maybe once or twice a week. They say he had hypertension which caused his blood vessel to burst in his brain. We knew he had sleep apnea during most of his adult life but never knew the name for it or thought it was serious enough to cause death at such young age. He also got COVID in 2020 and was gaining alot of weight the past year or so, almost to the point of being overweight for the first time in his life which could have played a role as well.
I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea for about 10 years now. I'm young, healthy, and physically active as an athlete. Even if I didn't have sleep apnea I'd still be wearing it. So if you're feeling groggy all day and snore, go in for a sleep study at your local clinic and get it checked just in case. When you wake up in the morning you likely won't remember the brief times you woke up gasping for air, as it's more of a reflexive and short event, so you can't rely on yourself to know if you're having these events.Also I never even realized I was groggy during the day cause I had lived my whole life feeling like shit. When I slept for the first time with the CPAP it was like being reborn, I finally got to experience what a good night's rest felt like. So please, get tested for it if you have the symptoms, it could change your life.
Hi, I recently started to experience this and wanted to know if when you woke up in the morning you have a dry mouth/ throat? Also do you take the polysomnography at home or a hospital?
I have been suffering from it for 13 year and my parents still don't believe me when l tell them. Which actually made my heart stop due to lack of air and l honestly don't know how I managed to wake up in my own bed at 5 in the morning 😅 but l am thankfully 😅
There are four treatments as far as I know 1. a CPAP machine (I'd rather solve it than use a CPAP the rest of my life) 2. They "carve out" part of your mouth throat, not sure what this procedure is called, to make more space for you to breathe 3. The Inspire implant- but this doesn't necessarily stop ALL your sleep apnea episodes 4. A device you wear/put in your mouth to hold the airway open 5. The DNA (day/nighttime) appliance, kind of like 3, but gradually wedges your throat wider, just like braces gradually straighten your teeth.

Im 16 and so far in the past couple weeks ive wokem up several times because I’ve stopped breathing, with sleep Paralysis also sometimes im afraid to go to sleep
Pretty crazy that sleep apnea affects so many people... You would think it would be a medical crisis but a lot of people disregard it. What's interesting is that there are treatments that are not that crazy CPAP machine. There are some companies such as Zephyr Sleep Technologies that have a cool machine that dentists can give to you to see if you can just get one of these "mouth guard" type fixtures that can treat mild-moderate sleep apnea.
I suffer sleep APNEA w DYSPNEA ( stop breathing 277 times in 5 hrs) they gave me a CPAP/VENTILATOR. I too didn't want to be bothered w it, until one night it freaked me out not breathing right. Now every time I nap or sleep it's on. Definitely a LIFE SAVER

I didnt go to the specialist. I just decided to put more effort into working out eating healthy staying hydrated eating healthy and self care. Which help me stress less. I just did that for me ( emphasis on ME). I just decided to do more self improvement even how I sleep bed sheets and everything I can think of and all those sleep apnea stopped. All I can say is you do you and pay attention to how your body feels and what it's telling you. I knew I was already healthy as a horse I just needed to reevaluate my life the body will thank you for it

Me too when I was a kid. I don't remember since it was before I was 5 but my mum told me I had apnea and it was cured by adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy.
Get a CPAP even if you don't have the insurance to cover it. It'll save your life. It did for me. I was taking 3-4 naps a day when i was a driver driving all over the bay area a few years ago. I had to pull myself off the road multi times so i didnt fall asleep behind the wheel. When I got the CPAP machine and eased back on the alcohol I started getting 8-9 hours of restless sleep. I haven't needed an afternoon nap in almost 3 years now.
Today after watching this video, I feared that I have sleep apnea (even though i don't have any of the symptoms) when i fall asleep, i got a little scared that i was going to die because of no air, so i kept waking up every 5 mins, but i ended up falling asleep 30 mins later anyway. Problem only gets worse with time. Find the most appropriate treatment as soon as possible and I would suggest an at home sleep study every 12 to 18 months after treatment to be sure it is still working for you. I am a dentist and we provide screenings and at home sleep studies all the time. Some patients do well with the oral appliance therapy (OAT) and others may still need some form of positive airway pressure (PAP).
I treat sleep apnea in Houma, LA and the numbers of patients is astronomical. What's crazy is that about 90% of those with sleep apnea have not even been diagnosed.
What's so insidious about this is that the symptoms only manifest while you're asleep! During the day you breathe fine. Your partner is the first person to notice but if you're single like me... I was having a general physical in 2011, when I mentioned to the doctor symptoms of restless leg syndrome. I have no idea how she went from that to "have you been tested for sleep apnea." Perhaps it was a coincidence and she was going to ask anyway. Although I have some tiredness during the day, I think if it wasn't for that suggestion I still may be undiagnosed 11 years later!

Bruh this happens to me once in a while, Im just chilling in my dreams and then I feel how I get NO air, i try my best to inhale but i just cant. My father had unchecked sleep apnea for over 35 years. He has so much scarring on his heart from all the years his heart was pumping blood that was not oxygenated. Several other risk factors as well, diabetic and overweight, But the doctor pulled me aside and said if he could’ve only treated the sleep apnea sooner his heart would be in much better condition. Said it is only running on 40% efficiency
I have central apnea I first started with a capap .Now I need a special bipap that aids my breathing It saves my life every time I take a nap Or go to sleep at night.
Central apnea is different. It's not caused by a physical obstruction in your throat while sleeping. It's the brain itself that causes it. It's common for example if you're over-sedated.
I'm 30 and fit, and I've probably had sleep apnea for 8 years now. I say "probably" because I used to wake up with a really stuffy nose (even in the summer) and have a rapid heart beat. Only recently did someone inform me about sleep apnea. It all makes sense now why I've had trouble concentrating, feel drained all the time, and am really irritable.
@@wheeloz9903 I manage it by sleeping on my side a lot, using a humidifier when the air is dry, use vicks vaporub, and also run an air purifier. Haven't had any heart-racing episodes in a long time.
CPAP machine is the only evidence based intervention for the treatment of sleep apnea. It helps immensely, but it is expensive. Even given the cost it is definitely worth the investment in your health.
One of my dormmates is choking in her sleep, you can hear her swallowing and you can clearly hear that she is producing a lot of saliva. The interesting thing is she doesn't know she is choking in her sleep. When we talked to her about this, she denied that she is choking, gasping for air or anything. She just doesn't know and sleeps through the whole process. For her, it's fine. For her other 4 dormmates? Not so much...

ive had osa for 35 yrs now mild/severe. started off from a head injury I have type 2 diabetes but nothing else no brain damage no heart problems no strokes and still alive. even skinny people have this so been overweight might not help but isn't the cause for some. frankly I don't think the specialist have a clue bcause my cpap machine doesn't work for me. the most important thing is depression not able to work bcause falling to sleep there having no money bcause not working n keeping a women who wants to sleep with you wearing a mask but hay all my best to you all ,good look
If I had to write a 5min story of my life! My mother timed me. She said it was around 40-50 seconds that I stop breathing. And I wake up around every 5-10 min. I've had almost every symptom every day of my life the last 10 years. Time to get it fixed before it kills me.
I get this sometimes, since last year. I'd wake up and it's like I'm holding my breath. It can happen a few times. It can last an hour, or maybe two of this happening. Thank God it only happens on occasions. I rarely wake up feeling rested and I have CFS.
I kind of got used to sleep paralysis and sleep apnea at this point that I just feel mildly annoyed that it happens. I experience it at most thrice a week.

I had sleep paralysis and apnea at the same time. I couldn’t wake right away when I started to lose oxygen and breathing was VERY difficult (I tried breathing through my nose, I couldn’t breathe through my mouth) when I tried to Inhale it was almost like my body only allowed bits of air to enter which was what I depended on after each inhale (I legit thought I was going to die ) I prayed to Jesus asking to wake me up from that in my head because I was legit panicking. I could hear myself breathing abnormally but it wouldn’t have been heard from anyone in the house because I had the fan on so the fear of suffocating in my sleep without anyone knowing really scared me. I ended up waking and I thank Jesus for having mercy on me that day. I also realized that this sleep apnea triggers when I sleep on my back which I don’t normally do.
I really thought I was going to die, last night was my first experience and at some point I really thought I was dead. If this happens again I’m not really sure how it’s going to end so I’m preparing myself for the worst, I’m gonna live each day like it’s the last and share good memories with loved ones : )

My older sister has this, and they had to take out her tonsils when she was younger. She has always been on the big side, ya know, mah girl thick, and when I used to see her sleep I get scared and run to my mama. Cause she would be snoring loud and choke for a sec and sleep and choke again. Now and back then, she would go to sleep out of the blue. She could be driving, cooking, laughing and talking and BAM! She knocked out!

I was in such a fog and had a ton of anxiety from OSA for years until I tried it. Gave up on cpap after a year and a half last year and I’ve finally discovered these things that work for me. I tried wim Hoff, it made my anxiety worse. Although I still do the cold showers. I used to get really strong adrenaline rushes a few hours after the morning breathe work and headaches so I had to stop. It was sending my anxiety throguh the roof

I got sleep apnea. 112,5 times every hour, i stopped breathing. 8h = 900 times. And i got symptoms 3-4 years before i got that as a diagnose. And i was 22 years old. Very unusual. It would takes months to get me a machine and such stuff. But i only had to wait 2 weeks because it was very dangerous number. For that young age. When i got the machine. I got from 112.5 to 0,0-0.3 every night. A truly life saver. I never got a good sleep in 3-4 years, maybe even more. I never slept deeply. Imagine sleeping for 1-2 h every night. For 3-4 years or even more. Thank you for the CPAP machine. Saved my life and i changed so much.
If you have sleep apnea untreated, do you still dream ? I have started to wake up before I can sleep short of breath with a very dry throat and blocked nose sometimes but no one has ever told me that I snore and I am not overweight. I am still having dreams in my sleep.

I resisted getting a CPAP machine due to pride/ego bs. Because I was only 33 when I needed it and I associated CPAP machines with old men. I’ve been using it EVERY night for 15 months now and it’s DRASTICALLY changed my life for the better.
I used to jump out of bed in the middle of the night DESPERATELY trying to get air. My heart would race. I’d be pacing around the room breathing as if I’d just run a marathon. I eventually resorted to sleeping while sitting upright on the side of the bed because I just couldn’t breathe laying down. I took naps daily. I was EXHAUSTED. Headaches, sadness, and irritability were the norm. I took a sleep apnea test and was diagnosed with the most severe stage. My blood oxygen level went down to 68% when I was sleeping (that’s really bad) and I stopped breathing on average of once every 30 seconds while sleeping. Point being, if you need CPAP therapy and you have the ability to get it, GET IT!!
What’s the process for getting that machine? I'm certain I have apnea, and I think it's pretty severe. My mom and sister are at their wit's end because my snoring is incredibly loud. Last time, my mom even mentioned seeing my stomach moving as if something was alive inside. I'm 33, and I've had several episodes where I wake up gasping for air, literally screaming for help while running around at 3 AM! 😆

My dad actually has this. I would be scared when he sometimes woke up. I thought he was not a deep sleeper. He would always be energetic but i never thought he had this. Even though he died 2 years ago, i still miss him sometimes woke up and sleep back. Usually when he woke up, he said if i was okay and continue sleeping. Rest in Piece.

I'll start using it again now. I have tried recently, but the hardest part is keeping that darned mask on all night. Hope this helps anyone going through this. I have experienced sleep apnea when I gained weight and whenever I was sleeping on my back. To avoid getting suffocated and waking up multiple times during the night, I simply slept on my stomach. It prevented my tongue muscle from relaxing onto my throat and suffocating me.

This is a great solution. Since sleeping on your stomach can be a difficult position for your spine to be in, you can help your spine by placing pillows under your chest and under your hips. This way, the curve in your lower back is maintained while on your stomach.

I should have mentioned, the problem only goes away when I do exercise. If I go a week without doing exercise then I start having issues.

I have obstructive sleep apnea. The sleep study showed that I stopped breathing roughly 186 times an hour, not a night but every single hour. It was one of the worst cases the sleep specialist I was seeing at the time had ever seen. I now use a CPAP machine every night. Still absolutely fatigued every single day though. My sleep specialist has me on 40 mg of Adderall per day to combat the daytime sleepiness.

Snoring once in a while is okay, but snoring for a long period (and daily) can be a concern. It is always good to talk to a specialist about this, as OSA can increase the risk of heart problems (like stroke and heart attacks) and other health-related issues.

I just did a home sleep study test. My doctor told me I quit breathing 61 times a minute. I went to see her because of headaches, fatigue and because I often have dreams where I am struggling to breathe. Next step is a sleep study test at the clinic so a formal diagnosis can be given. But she said a CPAP would help my whole life be better!! My only reservation is having to wear basically a face mask because I’m extremely claustrophobic
i was diagnosed back in 2006 obstructive sleep apnea everything you see in the video is correct i had the symptoms my advice to you guys see your doctor and set an appointment for sleep clinic they will send you a small device to take home and follow the procedures my doctor prescribed me a CPAP machine and im so grateful and full of ENERGY everyday when i go to work and not fallin asleep while driving in the middle of the day but you need to loose weight i drinking soda and alcohol and i lost 15 pounds in a year i dont go to the gym you just need to walk everyday at least an hour a day and drink lemon water it works for me so goodluck to you all!

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 16 they looked in the back of my throat not only cause I would get strep throat a lot but cause they was wondering why I was sounding like a cow when I slepted and first they noticed I needed my tonsils removed because they were huge! So they decided for my safety to get a sleep study and it came back that I had severe sleep apnea my heart would beat really fast and they said that my heart would skip a beat 69 times per minute I thought it was impossible but they said it was possible but luckily I was able to get my tonsils removed but after that my sleeping did get a lot better but I kinda do still snore kinda hard but they said maybe my weight could also be a factor to that.

My 37 year old brother recently collapsed and died from a stroke. He was healthy and never smoked or did hard liquor in his life. He would only drink beers in social settings, maybe once or twice a week. They say he had hypertension which caused his blood vessel to burst in his brain. We knew he had sleep apnea during most of his adult life but never knew the name for it or thought it was serious enough to cause death at such young age. He also got COVID in 2020 and was gaining alot of weight the past year or so, almost to the point of being overweight for the first time in his life which could have played a role as well.
I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea for about 10 years now. I'm young, healthy, and physically active as an athlete. Despite this I still had sleep apnea(likely passed on in the family), so it can affect anyone no matter their current lifestyle. After being diagnosed I got a CPAP machine, and since 10 years later I have almost forgetton the fact I have sleep apnea thanks to the CPAP. Its amazing how much the CPAP can change your life. Even if I didn't have sleep apnea I'd still be wearing it. So if you're feeling groggy all day and snore, go in for a sleep study at your local clinic and get it checked just in case. When you wake up in the morning you likely won't remember the brief times you woke up gasping for air, as it's more of a reflexive and short event, so you can't rely on yourself to know if you're having these events.Also I never even realized I was groggy during the day cause I had lived my whole life feeling like shit. When I slept for the first time with the CPAP it was like being reborn, I finally got to experience what a good night's rest felt like. So please, get tested for it if you have the symptoms, it could change your life.

Get a mouth guard
There are four treatments as far as I know
1. a CPAP machine (I'd rather solve it than use a CPAP the rest of my life)
2. They "carve out" part of your mouth throat, not sure what this procedure is called, to make more space for you to breathe
3. The Inspire implant- but this doesn't necessarily stop ALL your sleep apnea episodes
4. A device you wear/put in your mouth to hold the airway open
5. The DNA (day/nighttime) appliance, kind of like 3, but gradually wedges your throat wider, just like braces gradually straighten your teeth.
I work at a pediatric pulmonary and sleep apnea specialty so this video is very educational and informative. I wish the providers there could show this to patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Thank you Nucleus for yet another great video!

Pretty crazy that sleep apnea affects so many people... You would think it would be a medical crisis but a lot of people disregard it. What's interesting is that there are treatments that are not that crazy CPAP machine. There are some companies such as Zephyr Sleep Technologies that have a cool machine that dentists can give to you to see if you can just get one of these "mouth guard" type fixtures that can treat mild-moderate sleep apnea.

Oral appliances do not work for everyone and carry an increased risk of TMJ issues..
I suffer sleep APNEA w DYSPNEA ( stop breathing 277 times in 5 hrs) they gave me a CPAP/VENTILATOR. I too didn't want to be bothered w it, until one night it freaked me out not breathing right. Now every time I nap or sleep it's on. Definitely a LIFE SAVER

@@Steve-ArfArf well the doctor check my health any it was good. But to keep up my daily work out. And he also gave me a referral to a sleep specialist. But it took a long time for them to call me. I didnt go to the specialist. I just decided to put more effort into working out eating healthy staying hydrated eating healthy and self care. Which help me stress less. I just did that for me ( emphasis on ME). I just decided to do more self improvement even how I sleep bed sheets and everything I can think of and all those sleep apnea stopped. All I can say is you do you and pay attention to how your body feels and what it's telling you. I knew I was already healthy as a horse I just needed to reevaluate my life the body will thank you for it

Get a CPAP even if you don't have the insurance to cover it. It'll save your life. It did for me. I was taking 3-4 naps a day when i was a driver driving all over the bay area a few years ago. I had to pull myself off the road multi times so i didnt fall asleep behind the wheel. When I got the CPAP machine and eased back on the alcohol I started getting 8-9 hours of restless sleep. I haven't needed an afternoon nap in almost 3 years now.

Problem only gets worse with time. Find the most appropriate treatment as soon as possible and I would suggest an at home sleep study every 12 to 18 months after treatment to be sure it is still working for you. I am a dentist and we provide screenings and at home sleep studies all the time. Some patients do well with the oral appliance therapy (OAT) and others may still need some form of positive airway pressure (PAP).
I treat sleep apnea in Houma, LA and the numbers of patients is astronomical. What's crazy is that about 90% of those with sleep apnea have not even been diagnosed.
What's so insidious about this is that the symptoms only manifest while you're asleep! During the day you breathe fine. Your partner is the first person to notice but if you're single like me... I was having a general physical in 2011, when I mentioned to the doctor symptoms of restless leg syndrome. I have no idea how she went from that to "have you been tested for sleep apnea." Perhaps it was a coincidence and she was going to ask anyway. Although I have some tiredness during the day, I think if it wasn't for that suggestion I still may be undiagnosed 11 years later!

Bruh this happens to me once in a while, Im just chilling in my dreams and then I feel how I get NO air, i try my best to inhale but i just cant. So your basically suffocating, and just waiting to wake up. Its pretty scary and everytime it happens im aware that I’m asleep and im just waiting to wake up and its a horrible feeling

Central apnea is different. It's not caused by a physical obstruction in your throat while sleeping. It's the brain itself that causes it. It's common for example if you're over-sedated.

I'm 30 and fit, and I've probably had sleep apnea for 8 years now. I say "probably" because I used to wake up with a really stuffy nose (even in the summer) and have a rapid heart beat. Only recently did someone inform me about sleep apnea. It all makes sense now why I've had trouble concentrating, feel drained all the time, and am really irritable.

CPAP machine is the only evidence based intervention for the treatment of sleep apnea. It helps immensely, but it is expensive. Even given the cost it is definitely worth the investment in your health.

One of my dormmates is choking in her sleep, you can hear her swallowing and you can clearly hear that she is producing a lot of saliva. The interesting thing is she doesn't know she is choking in her sleep. When we talked to her about this, she denied that she is choking, gasping for air or anything. If I had to write a 5min story of my life! My mother timed me. She said it was around 40-50 seconds that I stop breathing. And I wake up around every 5-10 min. I've had almost every symptom every day of my life the last 10 years. Time to get it fixed before it kills me.

I had sleep paralysis and apnea at the same time. I couldn’t wake right away when I started to lose oxygen and breathing was VERY difficult (I tried breathing through my nose, I couldn’t breathe through my mouth) when I tried to Inhale it was almost like my body only allowed bits of air to enter which was what I depended on after each inhale (I legit thought I was going to die ) I prayed to Jesus asking to wake me up from that in my head because I was legit panicking. I could hear myself breathing abnormally but it wouldn’t have been heard from anyone in the house because I had the fan on so the fear of suffocating in my sleep without anyone knowing really scared me. I ended up waking and I thank Jesus for having mercy on me that day. I also realized that this sleep apnea triggers when I sleep on my back which I don’t normally do.
I really thought I was going to die, last night was my first experience and at some point I really thought I was dead. If this happens again I’m not really sure how it’s going to end so I’m preparing myself for the worst, I’m gonna live each day like it’s the last and share good memories with loved ones : )

My older sister has this, and they had to take out her tonsils when she was younger. She has always been on the big side, ya know, mah girl thick, and when I used to see her sleep I get scared and run to my mama. Cause she would be snoring loud and choke for a sec and sleep and choke again. Now and back then, she would go to sleep out of the blue. She could be driving, cooking, laughing and talking and BAM! She knocked out!
