That dance scene at the end had me trying to tuck $1 bills into the tv! There is no greater unselfish friend in the world than Fred letting us drive his brand new F8 spider in the most glorious color, thank you so much Fred! Memories to last forever!
For me the sound is everything in sports cars that is why I have never liked McLaren cars they feel dull and Ferraris have become like McLaren so yes Ferrari lost its soul. those cars are insanely fast so it doesn't matter if there is a 150 or 200 horsepower difference and performance is something appreciated on the track by experts not normal people who buy Ferraris to enjoy the drive in the city.
its almost like they took the easier path to getting more horsepower out of the car by adding the turbos. The other way would probably increase the engine capacity into "bull" territory.
This is spot on! For me the pinnacle of Ferrari was the 458, the last naturally-aspirated V8. Twin turbo engines don’t sound the same as a full throttle naturally aspirated V8. What’s really sad is the day when everyone has an electric car with engine sounds artificially piped in to remind us of better times. Yikes.
I haven't had the privilege of driving an F8 but I love my 458 because I feel totally in control at all times I've driven cars that are overpowered and always was afraid I was going to die in them I would love to put my foot to the floor and know that I have it under control at all times so for that reason I'll probably Enjoy my 458 for quite a long time. Thanks for the great video was a lot of fun.
They are both cool in their own way. I personally love them both, but I am going to sell the 458 Spider and get an Speciale Aperta. BTW, you have a really cool channel and a nice 458!
I wish I could explain with words the feeling I had when driving the 458 around the track in Vegas. The sound outside the car is nothing like when you’re inside.
Dan, this was an excellent comparison of the two vehicles. It really shows how far Ferrari has come and what they have improved on over the years. I know that a lot of people like the 458; however, the F8 is a phenomenal car!
WOW! And I thought my 1990 Testarossa was fast! I have not had a Ferrari in years, now after watching this vid and others where others have also said the F8 was almost too fast for the road I think it would be more fun to own a 458 than F8 and save a bunch of coin in the process! Thanks for the excellent comparison.
The 458 is better keeping stock or maybe just modding the exhaust. The turbo cars 488 to f8 and beyond is screaming to get modded with bigger turbos, exhaust and tune like the gintani 488. They're both different kinds of fun. I would love to be blessed owning both of them one day.
No, but like you said, it's a preference thing. I love turbos and torque. I like to ride the torque wave. Yes the 458 sounds better, but a good exhaust will get you close enough for the F8.
I keep my 458 spider and even now bring it to Tokyo from hongkong. As a Ferrari fans, its not all just about speed and performannce is just way different whihch since 488. To be hon, getting a 296 gtsis not difficult but it’s different at all. Cheers for all whom own 458. Best wishes
That race wasn't even close. I think that the F8 is 0-62 in 2.8 seconds and the 458 spider is 0-62 in 3.3 or 3.4 seconds. You don't know how much of a big difference it makes until you race.
Don't be dumb! A non billionaire would chose the F8 with its 4 year warranty & SEVEN year paid for Service Plan. Which is transferable should you sell the car on. On the risk & reward ratio keep it real. Lose least money over most time. Enjoy.
@@kevinburke6743 It's actually a 3 year unlimited mile warranty, which is the base warranty. Then, once it's over the service center tries to sell you an extended warranty which requires a 120 point inspection of the vehicle.
I would take the 458 for sure. The sound bugs me on the F8. Much Faster? Yes but emotion? Not so much without the roar. Plus like you say, the 458 looks like the car came out in 2021. I think the design of it will last still for a long time.
I think preferences are also dependent upon where you are driving as well. Out West, where roads are straighter and the consequences of making a mistake are less, you can utilize more of the power in the F8. Where I drive, in the mountains of the Blue Ridge, the F8 would not be as much fun as a car you can utilize more of the HP, like the 458. I've had more fun driving cars where I can utilize nearly all of the HP and handling the car can give than in cars where there was so much power, you have to short shift it. Even my F430 has more power than the roads I drive can really handle, but its nowhere near an F8. Lastly, geography can shape the sound envelope even more. In the Blue Ridge, you get an enclosed envelope of trees, bushes, leaves etc that dramatically increases sound volume on a car compared to where you were driving. While I like the looks of the F8 the best, Pista even more, the 430 and 458 are designed more for my environment than the F8 and the 430 over the 458 in the Blue Ridge. The 458 will be my next car, but it will end there for me. Nice fair and balanced review, but I did notice that up and until the rolling race, you did seem to be having more fun in the F8, judging by your facial expressions.
For me it's the 458 italia, Nothing not even a turbo F8, can match or come cloe to that Beautiful Orchestra and Symphony of the Naturaly Aspirated V8 458 Engine ❤

Most people can’t manage 400hp, and still talking about more HP and performance in the F8. The real deal here is the soul and passion that a 458 has and the F8 Don’t. Not only because of the sound and feel, but because of the perfection of the design of Pininfarina with this and the F12, their real last Ferraris.
I can’t help it keep commenting. I learned my lesson on buying fast cars. That is how I’ve gotten my first McLaren. I traded my Lamborghini super Valachi roadster for a McLaren big mistake. I was impressed when I saw it on drag times destroying the Lamborghini. Speed is not everything there is no comparison to the sound drama the naturally aspirated engine has. IMO no, Turbo's have not killed the V8 Ferrari. Ferrari has been forced to adapt to the market. Change is good. One of the most iconic Ferraris is a Turbo car, the F40. Now with Turbo cars, Ferrari can compete on performance against the competition. Competition has helped Ferrari bring higher hp V8 cars to market that are uniquely Ferrari. The NSX helped bring about the F355 and the 360/430. The McLarens and other competitors helped bring about the 458 and 488/F8. Soon I believe, if you don't have hybrid power you won't be competing at the top. I also think new noise regulations has muted all cars more than the switch to Turbos. Just add a quality exhaust to most any car and the sound is back. For some the F8 is more of a challenge to drive fast, that is a good thing. However, they person that isn't going to push the F8 anyway and make it move around still gets the car they can drive too. The entry level Ferrari has always been a used Ferrari for some. Now, they are just more expensive than ever and way faster. LOL
Half the point of these exotic cars is the sound and looks. You can find the same level of performance in a cheaper car, so its about how the car makes you feel. The Ferrari 458 is probably a better exotic car because it sounds louder/raw and is fast enough. I would also bet in the long term the 458 will be more desirable as a classic car as well.
Lolol.... the dance was awesome !!! You are blessed Fred !!!! Congratulations !!! The emotional element is lacking for me....The F8 NEEDS an exhaust....its the only thing it needs, imo, for it to be The Complete Package !!!! My goodness it's fast !!! Great review Dan....
458 vs 488 would've been a better comparison for the turbo transition and i believe the marketplace has made its decision. 458 bumps right up to 488 prices even though 488 is newer. i predict as the F8 ages it will also drop to 458 prices and when both cars are past 20 years age the 458 will be the more expensive and desirable car.
F8 is Ferrari trying to figure out how to do their own design 2 generations later, and still they are evolving off the pininfarina….with the exception of the pista the design has been going downhill since 2015, speciale included
Great comparison.....The F8 Spider is probably too much of a beast for the street. You could get a nice 458 Spider and a Portofino ( daily driver! ) for a little more than the crazy prices the F8 is going for.
Si je peux m'offrir une seule Ferrari une seule fois dans ma vie, ce serait incontestablement la Ferrari 458 pour son divin design, sa silhouette....! Intemporel. Quelle Beauté !
@@normalguysupercar You fired up the first one(n/a V8) and it still had the check engine light didn't you? If not, my apologies for getting it so wrong.
I could be wrong, but my first impression of the F8 is the back end looks like a lotus, the 458 from a distance you know its a Ferrari. I like the front design though.
The 488 and F8 drove the same for me. No feeling. I knew within the first 2 minutes of driving the 458 that i was driving something special. People will always be blinded by new but truth is the F8 is literally a 720S now with a Ferrari badge. Very cool cats but no feeling.
speciale owner here - for me definitely lost their soul. I drove f8 and 296 for couple weeks - true that they are hyperfast but the feeling is more like in a porsche than a ferrari. they've lost their rawness
Great review Dan.My favorite line'Iam gonna turn off the stupid auto on auto off" Cant believe a Ferrari would have that. But you know its more important to save a 1/2 gallon of Petrol a week then safety.Thank you Government, your here to help us.
Captain Obvious here: the F8 performance in impressive, while the 458 sound is better. I'm thinking a good exhaust on the F8 might bridge part of that gap for a lot less than the required performance mods to the 458. Then again, it's like the Jennifer Aniston/Angelina Jolie comparison and we all want to be Brad Pitt.....
I love the 458, but i take the F8 for sure! After I drove the F8 I was in love with what an amazing car! Especially the one I drove that had a straight exhaust! Good content mate
Cool vid Dan:) To each their own. The difference is massive imo. There is so much scuttle shake in the 458 that it ruins the experience. Both the 488 and F8 Spider are much better in this regard. The steering is better in the F8. Both have way too much understeer, but the feel of the F8 is vastly improved. Rattles and squeaks. To different cars with the F8 on a different level. Brakes in the 458 lacks cooling, badly. By comparison the 458 brakes feel wooden. The F8 brakes still need a proper track pad for track work, but overall they are much better. Both still lack a proper feel of modulation. Design is obviously personal. To me the 458 has grown pretty stale and I can see why Luca wanted an in-house design studio. To me sound is secondary. J'm in it for the drive, not the sound and attention. If I want sound, my 812 GTS has that in spades seeing it has sports cats and a GPF delete. To each their own. I think the 458 is rather overhyped and both successors are better and more fun cars.
This may not appear to be popular, but I happened to buy my wife a 2023 Ferrari F8 Spider for her birthday last year. She was beyond surprised as it was completely unexpected. She loves the car and especially the drop top. The car is near perfection! I agree that the glove box button location was not well thought out. I can deal with the sound myself. My wife is another story. The handling does make up for it. The fact that she is hotter than the F8 works for me. Throughout our 40 years of marriage, I have bought her many cars, jewelry, clothing, and so on. She was beyond appreciative of each and every gift over the years. At the end of the day, it's all just stuff. What she has given to me is priceless! Our 40 years together, her love, friendship unwaving support & faithfulness, our 7 children and now 5 grandchildren all our money could have never bought this. Sorry, it's getting late at 1:30 am. Great video! To all, I am the most blessed man alive!!!!
I'm a little tired of hearing how beautiful the sound of the 458 is. Too many people make a big deal about the last aspirated engine and it's sound. You drive a car, you don't listen to it like a radio... I test drove the GTS V12 with the top down and fell in love with that sound. If the sound is what you're looking for, buy a V12... not a V8! You go all the way... There are plenty of muscle cars that make a lot of noise and don't move...You can also buy exhaust pipes that have a better sound... I, personally find it obnoxious.... I had a 458 and it lagged at the start. It was kind of fast... but when I received my F8 Tributo, I didn't miss my 458 at all. It's so much faster... It's two generation after... I don't understand all these guys on UA-cam saying the 458 is the most beautiful Ferrari ever... When I first saw the 488, I thought it was more beautiful than the 458... They improved the design of the car... Then the F8 came out and they managed to improve the looks again. It's wider in the back and lower and updated. This is what they do... They don't make them uglier... They spend hours and hours to improve things... not make them worse... The 458 is old and there is nothing wrong with old... It's just that it isn't old enough. Old cars are beautiful when they are classic cars... The 458 isn't old enough... It's "passe' "... or "outdated"...for now... in another 10 years, at least....LOL... it was amazing when it came out, for sure.... and it will be a classic... but for now, in 2022, it's old news...old technology.... and slower than these cars coming out today...
Thomas, I feel what you are laying down, but it's not always about better. I always tell all my friends the following: the 458 is like a hot ex-girlfriend that would do everything for you and ruins it for all the rest who came afterwards. Yes, the F8 is very fast and don't get me wrong, I love it; however, it lacks the rumbles and grumbles that the 458 still has and is quite numb/disconnected from the road. I would probably get rid of my F8 before I ever thought about getting rid of my 458.
@@freddaniali Fair enough... what ever tickles your goat. I just received my new 2022 F8 Spider and I really really don't miss my 458 that I had years ago... Apparently they stopped making the F8... Now we will all have to switch to hybrids with smaller engines, if you want a new Ferrari. The fat sound will soon be a thing of the past...
I've notice the same thing with Koenigsegg, I prefer the basic 2011 Agera because the RS and 1:One are just rocket ships trying to leave the planet, after a certain threshold of power you can't drive it on the road anymore. This is also why LaFerrari is my least favorite flagship Ferrari. Ironically Bugatti is the complete opposite, they've tamed 1,500 horsepower into a beautifully pleasant package. Above 700HP you need 4WD.
Leather ! = I have a theory about Ferrari interiors & shrinking leather especially - the dash, seats etc. Italy has some very hot regions also, so I dont think that the issue is just heat per se. My Ferrari & most in UK are fine on leather. But ! many states in USA west coast & Midwest at least are super DRY as well as hot sometimes. I have been all over & some places, summer & winter are incredibly dry - there is no moisture in the air - you get some massive static shocks getting out of your car - and this is what I reckon does for Italian leather - not just the sunshine - its the lack of moisture. Just my 2 cents !
Well I know which one you like. I like the 458 coupe lines and sound more than the F8 or 488. I don't care about the info system. I don't have it in my 2006 civic. The turbo diminished Ferrari and a Ferrari EV will destroy the company as it is doing to Jaguar.

However, they person that isn't going to push the F8 anyway and make it move around still gets the car they can drive too. The entry level Ferrari has always been a used Ferrari for some. Now, they are just more expensive than ever and way faster. LOL
Lol yup
This is crazy! How come I didn't see this video until now? Great content here Dan! I have been a long time for you to compare these two cars. 👍🙌
Thanks!
My favorite part was the racing in the street. It really shows the differenced in the sound of the engines.
Yup
I just dont get ehy this channel hasnt yet exploded
Because we're not drama focused and don't really use much click bait
Half the point of these exotic cars is the sound and looks. You can find the same level of performance in a cheaper car, so its about how the car makes you feel. The Ferrari 458 is probably a better exotic car because it sounds louder/raw and is fast enough. I would also bet in the long term the 458 will be more desirable as a classic car as well.
I think it certainly will be considered one of the best of all time
Cray cray I don't give a cr@p about nothing rich guy dance at the end.
Ha!
The 458 will always be better than any new Ferrari based on its screaming V8, turbos take all the best sound away
Quite possibly so
Lolol.... the dance was awesome !!! You are blessed Fred !!!! Congratulations !!! The emotional element is lacking for me....The F8 NEEDS an exhaust....its the only thing it needs, imo, for it to be The Complete Package !!!! My goodness it's fast !!! Great review Dan....
Thank you
Thanks Deuce!!!
I've done that video too...
F8 is Ferrari trying to figure out how to do their own design 2 generations later, and still they are evolving off the pininfarina….with the exception of the pista the design has been going downhill since 2015, speciale included
The Pista is pretty. I think that was a good one.
I was at the Ferrari dealership and I saw somebody test driving an f8 it was so disappointing the pedestrian sound coming from it
It needs an exhaust badly
Yes! I am of the persuasion that newer is not always better. I prefer the styling of the 458. The turbos ruined the sound.
Yeah
Thanks for another informative and entertaining video
You're welcome
Great content!
Thank you
Great review. FYI...torque is measured in lb-ft, not ft-lb
Whatever. It's the all the same
great video as always! but can we have a closer look on that beetle cab plz !😍
Ha!
I still want the 458 😃. Fred is going to let me drive the F8 ..so we’ll see how I feel after that 🏎💨💨
Yeah they both are amazing
That yellow on the F8 POPS
Yeah it's really a great color
Ketchup and mustard. Both legends just preference.
Lol yup!
Great comparison.....The F8 Spider is probably too much of a beast for the street. You could get a nice 458 Spider and a Portofino ( daily driver! ) for a little more than the crazy prices the F8 is going for.
Totally agree
Si je peux m'offrir une seule Ferrari une seule fois dans ma vie, ce serait incontestablement la Ferrari 458 pour son divin design, sa silhouette....! Intemporel. Quelle Beauté !
The 458 is pretty much the best car ever made in my opinion.
Love that there is a check engine light. Is that normal on a Ferrari?
When it's not running it is.
@@normalguysupercar You fired up the first one(n/a V8) and it still had the check engine light didn't you? If not, my apologies for getting it so wrong.
@@hamsterbrigade all Ferraris the CEL stays on for about 30 seconds after you start it
Are the dimensions of these two cars the same? It almost looks like the F8 is a bit bigger? I could be wrong. 😬
It is slightly larger I believe
Good stuff, Dan!
Thanks
Once again another great video!
Thanks
Both are awesome. With this combination of cars you have the best from both worlds, N/A and turbo 😎
True!
I love your VS series.
Thank you
I could be wrong, but my first impression of the F8 is the back end looks like a lotus, the 458 from a distance you know its a Ferrari. I like the front design though.
True but I'm glad they went back to quad tail lights
The 488 and F8 drove the same for me. No feeling. I knew within the first 2 minutes of driving the 458 that i was driving something special. People will always be blinded by new but truth is the F8 is literally a 720S now with a Ferrari badge. Very cool cats but no feeling.
It drives completely different than the 720
You hit this review right on the nose Dan baby!
Thanks
I enjoyed the review. I hope Fred will drive his cars more.
I agree. Fred, drive more damn you!
How about neither of these, I am waiting for your Lambo baby!
Lol that's acceptable
No , it just made them a lot faster. I miss the NA motors too but it’s always easy to make big power for FI
Yup
@@normalguysupercar I love em all mate. Just a big fan of cars like you. Good content mate. 😊
speciale owner here - for me definitely lost their soul. I drove f8 and 296 for couple weeks - true that they are hyperfast but the feeling is more like in a porsche than a ferrari. they've lost their rawness
Yeah
Great review Dan.My favorite line'Iam gonna turn off the stupid auto on auto off" Cant believe a Ferrari would have that. But you know its more important to save a 1/2 gallon of Petrol a week then safety.Thank you Government, your here to help us.
Yeah that's an annoying "feature"
Captain Obvious here: the F8 performance in impressive, while the 458 sound is better. I'm thinking a good exhaust on the F8 might bridge part of that gap for a lot less than the required performance mods to the 458. Then again, it's like the Jennifer Aniston/Angelina Jolie comparison and we all want to be Brad Pitt.....
Lol!!
I love the 458, but i take the F8 for sure! After I drove the F8 I was in love with what an amazing car! Especially the one I drove that had a straight exhaust! Good content mate
Yeah I'm a fan
You used my glorious comment I made about your exhaust a few days ago. 👍😉
Haha
I would say side intakes are major design difference! Also a homage to 308.
Indeed
Cool vid Dan:)
To each their own.
Good analysis. Thanks
458 Speciale (2013) was probably the last Pininfarina car, however... F12 was the last body to be designed by Pininfarina
Ah
This video is a winner! For sure!
Thanks
Is that a special paint job or does that yellow come from the Ferrari factory? It is so pretty!
It's a special color
Very kind
What is up with Fred's goofy song and dance at the end of this video? Is it his version of your outro? 😛
Lol yes
Is that a park or a golf course?
Golf course
Isn't that yellow F8 the car that you guys set out to buy like 2 years ago? Why did it take so long???
That's how long it takes for Ferrari to get it to you.
There's something about DCT up shifts that are just lacking in drama. It is too robotic, too perfect. Give me single clutch cars all day.
There certainly is more drama with the single clutch
Removing one of the senses hurts the experience. Sound is important

Turbo charging is not new to Ferrari, this is because the legendary Ferrari F40 was also turbo charged and downsized at the time.
Yup.
Yup
You might be right
With engines getting smaller in the hybrid world nowadays, you have to use turbos for performance.
Basically
Nice running shoes
Thanks!
Not that a 458 is slow, but as the saying goes: "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow"
Yeah
Well I know which one you like. I like the 458 coupe lines and sound more than the F8 or 488. I don't care about the info system. I don't have it in my 2006 civic. The turbo diminished Ferrari and a Ferrari EV will destroy the company as it is doing to Jaguar.
