I have serious issues with mold in my apartment (just had to get a bunch of mold removed from around my windows and slider) so I need to worry about rot and mold more than the average person. I always have issues with moss poles and wood growing mold of it gets wet for too long. Usually I only get fuzzy white mold on my poles but I’ve also had grey/black mold and even blue mold growing on them. It gets really frustrating, especially since it’s winter so opening up all the windows for good air flow isn’t an option.
Added that grande kit to my Xmas list (if I can wait that long). Really cool!

That is definitely a splendid. Melanos are darker and have a different texture. They also come out a different color. Idk how to explain but you can tell.

It's a pretty cool design
So cool you did a video on these! I remember telling you about them a few months ago. I have a few of them and love them. Sometimes the connecting pieces are a little wobbly but I just wrap a small rubber band around it and it gives it grip to stabilize it.
How long have you had them for? If you ever get anymore then use the 10% off code 'everythingplants' So far I really like mine.

I've had them for about 3 months on my Rhaphidophora Decursiva and Hoya Kerrii. The RD attached pretty quickly and the HK has one small aerial root that is cemented to it. I will be getting more soon. I want to put my Monstera Albo and white sport golden Pothos on one.
Mine always outgrow the planks well before any kind of wood rot plus I live in a very humid part of the country so I have never had to mist or spray to get my plants to attach. I can't wait to see your progress!!!
Thats what I've often said as well....I've never had rot on these planks. It's not like it degrades in a matter weeks. The plant will outgrow the plank before it rots.

I'm liking the new plank that you said has a woody smell that I believe your Melanochrysum is on. I too love everything outdoors and would enjoy the smell. I imagine it to smell sorta piney? That's just what comes to mind. I'm trying out a couple Coco Coir poles because that was what was available at this awesome plant shop near my home. Thanks for the video!🙏
It's now April 2023 and I would like to know if your plank still has a smoky smell. I really don't like that smell AT ALL, so I'm hesitant to buy one. Although they really add color and texture to the plants.
I dig these. They're good looking and seem easy to assemble. Especially for my monstera, which really don't need the moss of a moss pole, it seems like a very practical solution. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts after a few months of use. Thanks for sharing some alternatives to moss poles and plain wood stakes.

Love those! Do you have any videos on what you do once your plant has outgrown its plank or moss pole?
I don't think I have one specific to this, but I'll simply air layer and then chop it up off and place the top cutting in a seperate pot. This will allow it to continue to size up. Hope this makes snese

If you want to propagate, moss would be better, so there are functional differences. And if you chop with wood, it's different. I hate moss poles, but they have growing benefits. How do you chop and extend with wood planks?

I've had my Hoya kerrii and my Rhaphidophora Decursiva on the extendable plank since June and they've both attached it.
The monstrella is finished, the larger trellis ( Zella) is unfinished. To our surprise, plants still attach to the finished trellises!

I see some problems with planks: wood gets rot after some months and some plants (like some philodendrons and anthuriuns that need higher humidity) cant attach to the plank.
After I see your video to the end, your melano is the the proof that some plants cant attach to planks. You will see that in the verucosum aswell
At about 7:40 in the video you will see my pine wood plank that isn't rotten. It will take a long time and the the plant will out grow the plank before it rots. Cedar is a better choice for sure.
I will get those plants to attach for sure. I just need to be more conscious of misting the planks a bit more often
