Jeff I swear you are like my plant shaman- any time I am pondering a plant related issue, you post a video about it or have already made a video on it! literally the morning you posted this, I had been telling my partner on our way to work that I wanted to get some of my vining/ leggy plants onto planks! I have a lemon lime philodendron I "rescued" as a struggling, 2 leaf propagation + it's been growing like crazy, already has a big thick root popping out of the draining hole in the 5" pot after only ~4ish months. this will be incredibly helpful for me, so thank you!
My pothos and anthuriums kept getting fungus gnat infestations so I was told to change the soil and only bottom water. Now I see you drenching your plants and confused about the pros and cons although I do love your idea better. Seems more satisfying. Where can I get that fertilizer? I’m also in Canada
Thank you for the video! I have several young philodendrons and pothos that need to get on planks or trellises or poles, but I have been in analysis paralysis as to what kind of support to give them! Most people use the moss poles but they seem likes such a pain and I think they’re ugly (especially the more effective D-shaped plastic ones, sadly). The planks are much more appealing to me, and I was impressed by how well your marble queen attached! I’m actually kind of confused as to HOW exactly those roots are sticking to the flat wood so well! 😅 But I think planks are in my future. I have basic wood working tools so I could even make them pretty.
Thanks so much. Just a word of caution....pothos do well on planks as they attach easy. Philos....not so much. They will grow upwards but I've never had a philodendron attach itself to the plank.
@@EverythingPlants Oh thank you for the extra advice! I'd still like to give my philos more support, do you have a favorite alternative for those? I guess any old trellis?
Gorilla glue epoxy will fix that pot right up! My kindergartener decorated a pot for me that I loved, and my dog's wagging tail knocked it over and shattered it. I was able to put it together ❤️
Leca queen and Sydney plant guy say that they mist the moss first then plunk the bottle on the top and that prevents water going everywhere. I was going to order the pole you recommend but they were seeing like 30 for shipping, I was like "plant can grow up the wall, a sheet of drywall is cheaper" lol...
My hubs and I watch your vids all the time. Love how you describe in detail as you go. We both have been wondering about moss poles or planks....which one we would like to use and you have answered that for us. Thank you. One question ..what are your plans when the plants outgrow your planks?
I love your idea of using packing tape - that's genius! I ordered a lot of specialty plants online last spring and now I'm finding that some of them have spider mites or whiteflies. The only pest I've encountered in the past was scale on my Cat palm in winter. What have you found to be the best way to treat these bugs?
I've just recent discovered this as well as I had a plant struggling and yellow spots on the leaves. It looked like a nutrient issue and a friend mentioned it might be the pH. Sure enough I checked and it was way to alkaline
I don’t have as many plans as you do so if I don’t use up the full gallon of fertilizer, can I keep it for next time? Or does it have to be used right away and the remaining has to be discarded?
Nope you can absolutely keep it for the next watering. If you have a smaller container then just cut the dosing to reflect that as well. If you have 1/2 gallon.....then cut the dose in half as well
As for those moss poles, I have two on round and three on the d-shaped plastic. They are just now starting to attach, so I suppose this will be an experiment on which ones the plants like (2 adansonii, 2 deliciosa, and a marble queen pothos).
Just glue the chip back in your pot🤭. I am propping a Hawaiian Pothos to put on a plank. Hope it grows and looks as nice as your marble queen. Interesting to see what you devise for your watering station.
My concerns with my red emerald, Florida green, and binnefolium on moss poles is overwatering. Like you said the moss gets bone dry but the soil is wet. Do I leave the moss dry till ready to water again?. Thank you for help.
Your marble Queen at the end was like "half Moon green on the inside guys!" Then a leaf was like "I will not conform!!" And then the next one was like "I'm fully marble, you leaves before me can't stop me!" I think my pain has reached new levels that your plants have voices in my head 😬
@@EverythingPlants thank you. I have two philodendrons that reach the ceiling and they have equally long/tall planks. They’re hard to maneuver but the plants are lovely! It’ll be quite the task to take them outdoors in the summer.
Hi Jeff! I appreciate your tip about the aerial roots and why older stems don't attach easily. Very interesting video. You know I love your marble queen, and I wasn't interested in cebu blue until I saw yours on plank. Question, I also like the plastic honeycomb moss polls, but I have trouble securing it so it doesn't fall over. My poor adensonii. 😢
I used one of those green garden poles and I placed it inside the plastic moss pool and then I added the moss or you can even add like an aroid mix and I pushed that pole all the way down to the bottom of the pot and it is a very stable
I have about 70-90 plants.. want to buy one to spray neem oil solution on foliages and maybe shower with solution in the shower?? ( i didnt want to use tap water in the shower because my region’s tap water is considered hard and didnt want to somehow damage the plants. Or maybe it is ok to shower them but then it will also wet the soil 🤔 so i am basically watering them with tap water🤔🤔🤔
I would definitely buy this one again simply for the fact of its size and weight. This one I can lift up to my higher plants on shelves whereas if I had the 2 gallon it would be quite heavy.
Just to offer additional info: my plants on planks are doing great, but I don’t ever soak the plank. I just water the soil in the pot… and might most the plank sparingly for a plant that is struggling to attach.
Great question! I have no idea! Our outdoor humidity is 47% today…. But inside we have the heat on. I don’t do humidifiers or anything to supplement the ambient humidity - and my plank wall is maybe 3’/1m from an air vent.
your pothos are not good in comparison to the pothos in india your pothos leaves are down and the leaves of pothos in india are stra8ght and have bright beauty
Your plant shower is genius. For the walls, you could put another plastic container that fits inside the base container.
I never even thought of that. Thank you!

Yes...that is awesome. I'm happy that hear this was a well thanks timed video
Watering plants can be so time consuming, but it’s so satisfying. Love your marble queen!
Yes it can but I'm just glad they all don't need water at the same time. It's usually a staggered approach. Lol
That Cebu Blue is gorgeous! I haven't tried planks yet but look fwd to trying one eventually. So far I've just used wire mesh moss poles.

@@RuffTranslation they do wonderful on a Moss Pole!
Good information as usual ! Your beautiful plant pot that was chipped can be fixed with a bit if craft paint. No one will ever know it was chipped 👍
I did save the chipped portion and I will definitely be gluing it. Thanks for watching!
Dude I bought the 3 gallon sprayer, it's so heavy but easy to water everything in one fill. I also put my liquid fertilizer in there too
It's pretty handy. Thanks for watching
Thank you so much as usual for a very good educational information. All your plants looking so beautiful.
I just got my two chappins in the mail yesterday. Excited to use them this weekend. Kudos for the tip. 😊

Is there an update video? I search "moss plank" on your channel, but I didn't see an update.
I watched an awesome video of yours from a few years ago, where you used a small plank covered with burlap…… What are your thoughts on it now?
I don't have any burlap in use right now. Depending on the type of plant, I use moo's poles for most and I still have a couple planks

Wish I'd had your opinion about round versus d-shaped plastic moss poles before I set up my monstera adansonii. Round ones dry out SO FAST!
I'll be switching them over once they put grow the round ones.

do you paint the plank or put some sort of protection from rot?
Nope haha I've rarely had any rot issues. You can use products to seal the end or use harder wood like cedar
Where did you get the larger clear pots?

Great video! Is there a way to fix the water pH if it's not 6.5?
I was going to ask this as well:)
Hydroponic stores or aquarium supply will sell pH “up” and “down” chemicals that you can mix with your water according to directions.
That's exactly what I used in this video.

I'm going to assume it would be fairly similar to humidity levels in my place...between 30-40ish
What is the size of your plank?
I'm not sure the exact size but I believe it's 3 feet tall
Home Depot has something called plastic cardboard. Idk if you have home Depot in Canada
We sure do....Lowe's and those types of places. I will check it out thank you
