- Coleman CT200U-EX 63MPH minibike gets a Torque converter
Installed a torque converter on the Coleman CT200U-EX minibike with a Predator 212 to see how much top speed the bike would lose and how much quicker it would be.

LOL That is awesome! I'm glad we could help!!!😃👍🤏
I have the exact mini-bike with the stock engine, no engine mods. at all. I am running a Power Sport torque converter and clock it regularly at 38 MPH and I weigh about 212 pounds.
Wow . I have same but In tac black. Good to know. I was wondering if the torque converter adds more speed. Because right not my bike is stock and slow. Do u think I need to add a riser pad if I go straight chain n smaller sprocket?
Springs or shimms under the stock springs will do and delete the governor and u can get 50 easy from the stock 196!! I to have both the regular ex and black tac awesome bikes!
@@thecrafteeone6192 I have the same bike, stage 2 kit with the torque converter. I weigh 200lbs and it tops out at 46 with factory governor

I agree with everyone, he's got more torque at launch than he knows what to do with so just drop the rear tooth count and I'll bet he not only gets his top speed back but does the 0-60 faster cuz he won't be fighting a wheelie and can punch full throttle.
Now that alone should do it but if he also tunes the TC to his mods he'll get even better performance out of it.
It’s gonna slow the bike down at launch if he goes with a smaller rear sprocket
@@Manchildchannelyeah but thats what he needs ive done it before if it gets less torque then no wheelie and quicker 0-30

This gets better 0-60 than my mom's car
Check out the e-bike. It gets 0 to 30 in the one-second range! ua-cam.com/video/XkRNGWfpgCE/v-deo.html
What size are the two bolts on the front of the torque converter?
Smaller rear sprocket will do it for ya. Probably keep the 0-30 the same cause you’ll be able to really get on it and you’ll have your top speed back or close
Lean forward on the bike when you take off should reduce some of the pop up in the front end
If you adjust the spring tension on the rear TC pulley you can adjust how quickly it goes into a “higher gear”.
get the juggernaut driver from go power sorts and do this test again, then try a rear sprocket change. still plenty left on that top end with the added benefit of great bottom end.

👍👍Have you seen the 60 MPH videos I have on this bike? ua-cam.com/video/jHf9yJmaZLA/v-deo.html
You have to gusset it
I tell people all the time a straight chain is much faster... I don't know what it does to the clutch life but the torque converter adds more weight to the bike too. Would rather just grease up the clutch and run it straight.
Wish I woulda done that
Is straight chain better for top and or good for both bottom and top.
That straight chain is monster!!! A free upgrade just about
@@Naferner_Said I recently popped on a torque converter and I love jumping up the hills.
I don't know why I think these things are so cool. I think it's just the tinkering and ability to make a small motor really perform...lol. Definitely need to buy one but they are getting expensive...
Yes, I noticed that the other day. They are getting ridiculous in Price.

@@linkscape1957 The prices are getting crazy on these things! For me, a lot of it is a personal preference.
I’d rather have the torq-a-verter and lose a few miles per hour than have to deal with a regular clutch setup. In my experiences the chain doesn’t get thrown off at all and the power is a lot better to boot.

I’ll check it out. Thanks and have a great rest of the night.
Chain thrown off? Then you just don’t know how to work on mini bikes
Torque Converter has its downsides too. The belt doesn't last forever and if it gets wet it slips.
Change your tooth ratio you’ll reach a higher top sleep and make it there faster just puts a little more strain on the engine but you can put valves to prevent to much back pressure
Check out the CT200U-EX playlist We have reached 70 MPH and more with the big bikes! ua-cam.com/video/eHax9KYC0xo/v-deo.html
Your making me want to put my clutch back on but I ride in the woods so I depend on the toque converter to get me up the hills.
It would really be hard on the clutch climbing the hills. The converter is better for what you do.
I raised the seat an inch to change the angle of the seat, moves the cg forward, and you lose the sensation that you are sliding off the back. What clutch did you remove. Appreciate your approach to modifying these mini bikes👍
Thanks! That is a good idea!
I used a 3/4 shaft clutch on the Predator
Awesome video keep the good work up
Watched your video. Now have a Colman Baja with a Predator 224 and torque converter. Used a riser to align the torque converter. Runs great but ONE problem. The gas cap! It's snugged right up against the frame. Yours looks pretty tight too! Have to take off the fake gas tank just to fill the thing. Any suggestions for a real gas tank to replace the fake one? @@Black66 Will do.. Love your channel BTW Way back in the 70's I had a 5 HP mini that had a "high" and a "low. setting. It was a lever hooked to a cable that would press against a flap mounted on the axle (I think) Anyway, it was a great setup, and it provided a real nice low end. One you hit a certain speed you would engage the lever and that thing would fly. Basically, a two-speed mini.I have yet to see any videos with a set up like this. How about you? This would be right up your alley!
Could you tell me the length of chain used?? Please&thank you!!😁✌️💚

I bought the same riser mount because you recommended it. It is built very well and I love that I don’t have to paint it! Ha! You mentioned that you needed another spacer, do you have a link for that? Thanks for another great video!

Damn that motor mount keeps you from having to cut off the chain guard bracket fml. I already cut mine off
Can you raise the engine with some wood or is that a nono
Hey I know a great idea for a video. Belt test. Test the 203589 Vs. the 203590 and see if you gain any MPH or acceleration and higher RPM.
Gotta hang your entire body weight off the front, can def keep the front end down at that power and speed. I'm at a 2.4 0-30. great video! Can you test if the juggernaut slips less?
Thanks,That video comes out on Saturday
Are you using a Dragy? Are you hitting 60 mph, if so, do you have a time? The juggernaut is MUCH better than the stock driver in terms of shifting smoothy. But, it finishes out at lower ratio, so you need a different sprocket (larger front or smaller rear) to maintain top speed.
@@mlindsay527Yes I'm using a Dragy. I have tried multiple combos on the CT200U-EX. Check out the play list. I have used a juggernaut on a few of them ua-cam.com/video/X0SmAZJ6qW8/v-deo.html
I put a belt drive on one mini bike. The drive bolt in the drive shaft fell out (strip the drive). I am lost what to do now... Everyone says "size it, thread it..." but I think the drive needs to be replaced.
At 1:52 into the video, what kind of spacer are you using for your spare one?
That torque converter requires some breakin. With just a new belt, it has a crap load of friction. Once the bearings and belt loosen up, You're likely to see high 50's after some miles are on it. I had an older two seater kart that had the torque converter and a bone stock flathead briggs. It was about as slow as pond water until my cousin and I installed a cam and header pipe. Then it would get about 40 mph but the engine was still bogging at top speed. From a dead stop it would spin both back tires on the concrete.
I have a red Coleman mini bike and I have been thinking about a predator 225 and a torque converter but I really don't think it would be a good idea. I don't heal like I use to. 🤣🤣🤣
This was a used torque converter that was totally broken in. Check out the playlist on this bike. It was used in many different combos. ua-cam.com/video/X0SmAZJ6qW8/v-deo.html
I just put a new TC on my massimo, 224 predator but now is kind of boggy like u said, especially at top speed
I would like to know what's the belt size for the torque conveter ...

Came here when my kids CT jackshaft bearing fell out not too much more $$ to upgrade to Torque converter.
How does the stock brake handle the extra speed ?
The stock brake handles some extra speed. When you start getting up there to 50 or 60 MPH it could use upgrading. Check out the CT200U-EX playlist. It has a hydraulic brake video. Thanks for watching the videos !

What is more reliable straight chain or torque converter
I would say torque converter for the big bikes because they weigh more have tall tires and are hard on the clutch.
@@Black66 thank you been appreciate it!
For top speed speed should I run a torque Converter or a normal racing clutch ?
On the big bikes like a CT200U-EX I would run a torque converter. Its hard on the clutch with the tall tires on the bigger bikes. Check out the CT200U-EX and other playlists on the channel. You can get plenty of top speed from a torque converter with the right set up. ua-cam.com/video/W8lcopztTxQ/v-deo.html

Yes the riser is a must because the driven can scrape the bottom of the frame

I feel this is an unfair comparison as a torque converter out of the box is setup for a stock governed engine and in my opinion it needs to be tuned to your engine just like a carburetor for it to work to it's full potential
If he change the back spocket
how do i tune my torque converter i have an ungoverned predator 212 that i just bought and a torque converter that i just bought but i want to mod out my engine like his are you talking about spring positions or rear sprocket or front sprocket or all of them combined or what?
@@WhoWasMae They make different weights and springs to change the engagement rpm and the speed the belt shifts for the driver and they also make different springs for the driven also. I've found the aluminum weights and blue springs to be the most common setup for the driven and really wakes the bike up if your bike is more heavily modified then it might take some experimenting with different spring combinations
What magnetic flywheel did you run because all I see are billet flywheels but I want to be able to run lights
I have a Mega Moto MMB-105 with a Predator 212 all stock except the throttle linkage and it has a 12 tooth front sprocket and 75 tooth rear on 6in wheels... I only get 27mph if I push it. My question is what would bring that top speed up the most for the best price $$ as im on a budget lol?
A smaller rear sprocket. Anything smaller than the 75 will help you. Try a 60 rear. That she be about 38-45. 53 rear might be about 50-52. You can also change the clutch, I recommend from 15-18 tooth clutch with that 75 tooth. I miss my mini bikes

So I'm running a 12 tooth on front and stock sprocket on rear on a colemen 100u. 212 seems to hit top speed and start to sputter and not want more. Ideas?
Probably needs a Juggernaut to complement the mods you have.
Yep. With that gearing the current mods are not taken advantage of running it to only 4200 RPM or so. It never gets far enough into where the most power is. This has happened to many with the Coleman bikes over the years. Very common. Guys will build a decently powerful engine and complain about not getting enough RPM at top speed. When the Juggernaut came out it took care of that.
what is a juggernaut im new to the whole mini bike thing sorry
@@WhoWasMae It's a 30 series driver that can be used to replace the stock driver on a torque converter. It's main feature is gearing after the belt shifts. The stock driver gets you overdrive (.9/1) once the belt shifts to high. The Juggernaut gets nowhere near OD and gets to around 1.5/1 or so allowing higher engine RPM at speed.
The gearing difference between the 2 drivers is quite dramatic. The bike in the video is getting 4.5/1 overall once the belt shifts. The Juggernaut would get around 7.5/1 overall gearing. The bike in the video could use a Juggernaut and a 40 tooth sprocket.

ok this may be a dumb question but dont they come with a 50 tooth and doesnt adding teeth slow top speed and increase torque i may be dumb but i thought thats how it works (sorry im new to modding mini bikes i got my first one last year and just bought a predator and torque converter 2 weeks ago everything has come in except the engine riser so i cant quite put it together yet)
@@WhoWasMae The 60 tooth would bring the engine RPM higher at speed where more power is available to drive the load. There should be more power to drive the load at 5000 RPM than there is at 4200 RPM. The problem with the 60 tooth is that it's useless if you are going to use a Juggernaut driver. The engine would top out at too low a road speed.
You question is not dumb at all because gearing is so important. The short version is that a sweet spot needs to be found because too much gearing in either direction doesn't work well.
