I use the drum clutch with your stage 5 ghost motor and it’s doing amazing no slip and it doesn’t get hot I think my gearing is 12 on clutch and 72 on rear sprocket
I vaguely remember back in the early 80s seeing oil bath disc clutches similar to motorcycle wet clutches. There was several people in my area with racing go carts both 2 and 4 stroke some running on gasoline and some on alcohol that ran the oil bath clutches. I haven’t seen or heard of one in years so I’m guessing they aren’t made anymore.
Can you do a video on the 3D manual clutch that is available now? Would love to see what it's capable of and what the potential weak points are, thanks!
thank you for all the videos you do. I'm learning a lot from you since my grandson just got his 1st mini bike. it has a 196cc motor with a 5/8" shaft. is there a cvt for that shaft? he almost only rides it on road. it has a VM22 carb on it and i just put a set of front forks on it from go power. other then the clutch is there any other hop ups for it. he's 16 and just like me wants to go fast lol
Lots of info out there about them, however I like the way Greg explains things and I usually end up understanding whatever it was that confused me before.
Some years ago my friends and i rented a cabin inbtbe mountains of Tennessee. We took our carts (yard karts, BKS Grasshoppers) and ran up and down the mountain. The karts with convertors were faster going down, but the clutch karts were faster going up. My kart was fastest going up, but i was cammed and governor deleted.
I had a juggernaut cvt but it wasn't what I was looking for too much rpm at cruising speed so I put the stock centrifugal back on with a modified clutch 13t at 7.6:1 I'm getting a 12t centrifugal for 8:1 on a 19in tire
i hope this doesnt come across as offensive to the bigger guys but if your a big guy like over 160 your gonna need to spice your engine up as well as mess with the gear ratios smaller fellers like myself 135 lbs can get away with with a stock 212 and stock gearing on my coleman ct 200 u ex i get 25 mph un modified (although my governor is defective from the factory) and coleman stock gear ratio is 10 to 1
How is the racing clutch for everyday just riding around the city at high speeds. I've been using the centrifugal clutch for the longest but im tired of swapping them out every 50 miles.
Have a 19” tire mini bike 224 pred. W/ 24mm pwk, 265 cam, 13-1 comp, custom head. The bike has 50-1 gears, I use a tav2 with a spacer that limits the travel of the driven I also run the 3600 rpm white springs, on the driven I run the stock spring in a 4th hole I drilled past the max setting, I’m still looking to try the yellow spring because this motor likes to rpm
Hey im running the same set up as you more or less but I have a comet 30 series TC. I cant stand how fast it switches to its high gear. I'd love to rev it out to 4 or 5k b4 gear change so I got the blue silver springs which I believe are 3800 springs. My issue now is if I'm in high gear hauling ass then let go of the throttle I'll have a nice coast until 4k-issue then it drops low & it's violent as hel. How does your bike react with the stiffer springs? I cant find any info or a single video anywhere lol fmll
Little late on the tree here, but million dollar question: Can you upgrade a 2 disc to a 3 disc or is it a forklift upgrade? (Meaning you have to scrap everything and install a new unit,.)
So I bought a kt196 and I am going through belts rapidly, stock cvt setup, I just put a vm22 clone kit on and all but shredded another belt. I am pushing the cart for sure but how do I get the belt to handle it?
Closest would be a dry clutch found on very few motorcycles. I doubt such a product exists. Requires a clutch housing to hold the mechanism. You'd probably be spending more than the cost of a minibike if such a thing existed.
If you watch the video you will learn you can tune adjust clutch with different springs. A really light spring in the centrifugal clutch would force it to engage at low RPM. Or you can change the gearing so you're going a lot slower for a given RPM.
I was always curious about how these racing clutches worked. Thank you for for the easy to understand explanation.
Much Needed Video. I have always wondered what to use. Good video and great job showing how it all affects the drive system!! Great Job!
I’ve learned, and continue to learn technical things from your always excellent videos.
Thank you.

To test this, is good to put the clutch & spin something with something to measure how much it pulled.
Aside from the possibility of rules prohibition, why might you not recommend CVTs for racing?
Thanks Greg. That was a great video. I've wondered the Hp limits of the different types, and what is best to use in different situation.
Awesome details man.
Answered all my questions I've wondered about for several years.
Thank you. 😎👍👍
Very interesting and well explained. Any progress on the road to horsepower 420/460/500 ?👍
Last week I told my fam who has a video on the 3 disc clutch and BOOM my man! Great video!

I needed this video I'm in the process of building a drag bike..great info

Do you oil your bushing in it?
@thedude7726 yeah I use Lucas oil stabilizer. They say use regular oil but I found that last longer.
Thanks Greg. I Appreciate your knowledge.

How's the reliability so far?
@@JackSpeed great so far

Very well explained, love these learning videos 😊
Excellent information 👍😎 Thanks Red Beard Garage
When y’all coming out with the CVT video!?!?
Very informative as always. Thank Red Beard ✌️💛🙏
Can you explain the difference in the front driver gear? Like 15,16,17 tooth gear. I know it changes the ratio.
Bonjour, les embrayages manuels a disques ne sont pas une bonne solution ? J'ai vu sa sur des tracteurs tondeuse racing anglais
So I bought a kt196 and I am going through belts rapidly, stock cvt setup, I just put a vm22 clone kit on and all but shredded another belt. I am pushing the cart for sure but how do I get the belt to handle it?
Which one do ypu recommened 2 or 3 disk? My gearing is 12/60 on a db30 frame, built 212, .356 cam, 1.1 venom rockers, 32/25 ported & modifed head.
I have a doodle bug with a 224 and a 14 or 16 tooth clutch I use it for cruising
Good video, awesome information. Thanks.
👏🏽💪🏽🔥 another awesome video!
what belts do you use for cvts cause mine always break after like an hour of riding
Awesome video. Can you do a video a v-twin 1''1/8 cvt review?
He has put CVT's on his V twins and talked about them. I think he gets Polaris parts.
I can't wait for the c v t video❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Im new to this and currently running 10x42 with 15 in tires. Am i in danger of cooking anything?
Is there a car like clutch? Like let go of hand lever to engage like a motorcycle or car?
Closest would be a dry clutch found on very few motorcycles. I doubt such a product exists.
Requires a clutch housing to hold the mechanism. You'd probably be spending more than the cost of a minibike if such a thing existed.
How do I know what type of spring should I put in my torque converter?
Sickk more knowledge 🙏🙏🔥
Do you guys have any recommendations for a 420 cc engine? I got told on Reddit I need a 40 series but I don't wanna have to weld on a jackshaft mount
I've never seen a drum clutch with needle bearings. They usually have brass bushings.
Inferno and Noram drum clutches have needle bearings.
you should do a mud mower build
One of them 4 disc clutches cost more than my whole minibike 😢
You don’t need them unless your dumping 2k into your engine anyway
Can you make a water 💧 4x4 4wheeler. What would you use?
What's a water 4x4?
How we setup the clutch with the controler?
Do you know of any clutches for low speed? Sometimes I'd like to cruise at 5-10mph on my predator 212 without burning my clutch
If you watch the video you will learn you can tune adjust clutch with different springs. A really light spring in the centrifugal clutch would force it to engage at low RPM.
Or you can change the gearing so you're going a lot slower for a given RPM.
Will your msd coil pack work on my Honda 390
What was the first clutch called and what size one would I need for 212cc engine
You need to watch the video to find out what the clutches are called. That's what the video teaches you.
Love this a thing to go with road to hp now get ec to do kits from the road to hp.
say what?
Can I use a CVT on a vertical shaft engine?
Was wondering this myself as I was looking at a free riding mower today...
CVT's operate on centrifugal force and can be adjusted by using different springs. There's no reason they can't work in any orientation.
How well do these work with things like old garden tractors?
Look up torque converter on lawnmower I saw a video of a kid who used a Series 30 torque converter and some different pulley ratios and he was zooming
Thank you.
670 predator or 713 duromax which is better for gokart ?
Research and let us know.
Does anyone know where you can buy rear sprockets for a Coleman b200r? It has a 3 bolt pattern and I cannot find any online.
Amazon
Yess yess yess
Day 2 I’d durimax 500cc build
I used oil filled disk clutches
cvt is great for small applications but suck on cars
My clutch won’t engage ☹️
Me with a 26" 8 speed build that has a 1st gear ratio of 17.6:1...
I could pull a car out of a ditch, probably.
When I race monster kar craft trailer racing race car racing goes fast for the fast racing for the monster time racing race.
Look
I love all this mini bike mods but I really wish it was all American made stuff... I don't know how I feel about promoting China bs
Research "Noram clutch", raced them for years, excellent quality and not too expensive.
There probably are USA made parts that are better quality, but cost more than it's worth given the value of the chinese minibikes themselves.
