    Thank you for the video, I tried this on a Coleman KT196 go kart, have a stage 1 kit on it.. took the gas tank off and put a small sized zip tie on this governor spring, but then when starting the motor it wanted to run full blast during choke and died when taking choke off. I saw some similar comments here before posting this. What would be causing this? I looped the zip tie thru the same spring, is there anything I should be doing differently?

      I'm thinking it's due to either bent linkage, or different linkage. There are a bunch of other videos showing to do this exact thing- I just made my own because those other videos weren't very clear or thorough. Had I know some people were going to have this issue, I would have mentioned that in the video.
      None of those other videos ever mention this being an issue either. For what it's worth, out of the tens of thousands of views this video has, only about 5 or so people have made this complaint after performing the modification. So that means for over 99% of people it works, so there has to be something amiss like bent linkage or something like I said to cause this...

      @@BuckeyeBallistics I so appreciate your responsiveness and knowledge, thank you! When I took the zip tie off, it operated like normal. I'm wondering if there is really any that big of a difference with these particular parts between the Coleman 196cc and the 200/212? Maybe I used too small of a zip tie? Maybe too tight?

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому +1

      @@buradd They do change things over the years as they produce these. The Coleman 196cc is a Hisun engine and is supposedly a Honda 196 clone. The Predator 212's are basically the same but there are tiny differences between them all. You could try just loosly setting the zip tie on there and experiment with it one or two clicks at a time and see if it will work for you without pulling the throttle open. The tighter it is, the more it will hold back the governor. Apparently on yours, if it's too tight it is somehow holding the throttle open...

      @@BuckeyeBallistics I have to get back under the gas tank when I have more time, and I am learning as I go here, but aside from the governor spring, there is that separate rod and spring that is attached to the same governor arm, which appears to facilitate the idle by opening or closing a black piece on the carburetor. turning the idle screw makes that pivoting black piece rest at just the right spot to idle nicely when making air/fuel adjustments to the carb - it appears that when I ziptie the governor spring, it is preventing that other rod and spring from allowing that little black piece on the carb to rest on the idle screw and instead is pinned open, and making the idle act as if I have that idle screw turned all the way in x10 and the wheels want to spin when instead it should be idling nicely resting right where I have the idle screw actually positioned at

      @@BuckeyeBallistics so I got back out there and I think it was because of the tiny zip tie that I used, and tightening it all the way.. so now I used the same sized tiny zip tie but I left a little slack in it, and it starts up and idles just fine.. I got up to 32 mph before I backed off the throttle, is that good? It's a KT196 off road go kart, I need new front tires they are getting bald and I didn't want to go any faster.. I'm also getting a tachometer next week and going to put it on to see the RPMs, but I think even just 32mph over stock is pretty good? I weigh 275lbs too and this kart isn't exactly a featherweight itself

      Your verification is *incorrect* - somebody didn't pay enough attention to the video! I blatantly stated in the video that doing this modification could allow the engine to rev too high which could damage a stock engine. If your bike is completely stock and you want a little more speed without having to worry about harming the engine, then you can bypass/eliminate the throttle stop to achieve this. I made a video showing how to do this as well- check it out in the mini bike & atv playlist on my channel for quick access, or else have fun scrolling to find it lol.

    30 mph with stock gearing on the Coleman 200's is around 5400 RPM. It's good that the extra load prevented higher RPM on your run here. When you hear a guy say they got to 32 mph, they were right at valve float at around 5800 RPM.
    Both of my bikes are governed to around 5K at the moment. And both are adjustable with the throttle screw. I use the max RPM recall function on my tach when I test them.

      @@marquislewis1767 By changing the throttle springs position on the governor arm. Some engines have the extra hole near the end of the governor arm just in from the throttle rod and it's spring, some don't. I use that hole. If it's not there I drill one.
      Both of my bikes run the stock driver on the torque converter so I do not need high RPM. Both engines are governed with the stock carb and linkage. My 196 topped out on the road right at 5K RPM and didn't hit the governor. My 224 topped out at 5550 RPM and didn't hit the governor. Both are adjustable.

    Gov spring relocation is a much better solution, only takes a few minutes longer, drill the hole, this is a temporary solution. You should oil the clutch after every ride, use zoom turbine oil, oil the chains and tensioner. The tensioner will wear out though, its a wear item.

    I tried this zip tie method today but when I took it for a spin afterwards I can't say I really noticed much of a difference. But who knows maybe was going slightly faster but not enough to feel the difference. I gotta download one of those Speedometer apps on my phone and see. But now I feel like I messed something up while screwing around with the springs cause I noticed when I twist the throttle that little black throttle switch above the carburator doesn't go fully to open. It stops like a 1/8th of an inch short of full throttle. This stuff is so confusing to me. I really don't know what the hell I'm doing. I am far from a mechanic and only sorta know what to do from watching people do it on youtube. This should be real interesting when I attempt to put on a Torque Converter lol.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому

      Well I actually owe you an apology, so I'm glad you contacted me again. On your last string of comments, I did not realize which video those comments were on and thus accused you of not paying attention/skipping through the video- I thought it was this video! In my defense, probably because you said "governor" instead of throttle stop (which was the other video), so that's why I thought it was this governor video.
      So I'm assuming you found the information you were asking about in this video then? That is, about potential engine problems from revving the engine high? I still haven't had any issues but I don't keep the bike screaming at high rpm at high speed for more than a second or two. Being only 7 years old as you claim (your grammar is suspiciously good for a 7 year old), you will need to be more cafeful because the bike will go even faster and rev even higher due to your much lighter body weight.
      As long as you don't take the bike higher than 5000rpm it should be fine. I would recommend the electronic tachometers you can get on amazon, ebay, and even minibike/gocart sites so that you can monitor the rpm's and keep it at a safe level. If you want a higher top speed without over revving the engine, you can straight chain it (bypass the jack shaft) and do 40+ without revving it's guts out- but it'll be slow off the line. To avoid that, you can instead install a torque converter/cvt (belt) drive and get acceleration AND 40mph without over revving, but it will slip if you get it wet whereas chain drive will not...

      @@BuckeyeBallistics thank you so much! I looked at some torque converters, it seems super complicated and I don’t know if I can do it, I will take the risk with the removal of those governors, but one final question. I was thinking about buying one of those air filters that stick out because apparently they actually help a lot, but if I get one of them and go on a dirt or gravel area, will it ruin the filter or are those better filters meant for it? Thanks again

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому

      @@Up.North.Fishing Well I assumed you had a dad or uncle or grandpa or something that could help you out (if you were allowed to modify the bike). As for the external filter, you *can* technically add one of those by itself, but I don't think it will do much by itself without the matching header pipe and proper jet size in the carb to match. And if your bike is a newer Coleman like mine (which bike do you have btw?), they have an "epa" carburetor where you can't change the jet size; so you'd have to get a whole new carb to change the jets.
      As for the external filter getting dirty, yes they absolutely will and when they get dirty you will have *reduced* performance. A couple minutes of riding in dusty conditons will coat it in no time, and you will have to blow it out. Also, one splash of water on those exposed filters and it will suck water into the engine and ruin it if it sucks up enough. Water and dust and then you have a muddy filter that won't breathe at all...
      I know they make waterproof "outerwear" filter covers for atvs and dirtbikes that are waterproof and reduce dirt getting onto the filter as well- perhaps they make them for the little minibike filters as well. I'm almost positive I've seen them somewhere before...

And so I literally spent twenty bucks on a jug of 10w30 and filled it up until it began to overflow and then poured back what was puking out of the oil fill plug. The bike even had tags all over it saying "This vehicle was shipped WITHOUT oil in crankcase. Please fill with appropriate oil before first start." I'm not even kidding.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics

      It shouldn't unless your linkage is bent or something. Sometimes people try to do this without removing the parts that I did in the video. In doing so, it's not hard to bend the linkage. Also, if you don't trim off the tail on the zip tie, I could see it getting caught on stuff and possibly keeping the throttle open. Adding the zip tie just simply keeps the spring from expanding when the governor trys to pull out on it, thus denying operation of the governor. If you do it exactly as I show in the video, then there won't be any issues with the throttle sticking as a byproduct. If it does, there is something else going on...

    Nice video, yours was pretty well explained compared to others. I don't get it though. It looks like the governor is attached to the spring with when enough tension is on the spring triggers the governor. So by restricting the stretch of the spring, wouldn't that trigger the governor immediately?

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  3 роки тому +4

      There is a mechanism inside the engine that pulls the lever towards the front of the bike when the rpm gets too high. When it pulls the lever, this causes it to close the throttle some via the linkage running from the lever to the carb, thus keeping the rpms from going higher. The part of the spring that I tied in this video stretches forward when this happens, allowing the lever to travel forward, thus closing off the throttle. When you zip tie that part of the spring as shown in this video, it does not allow it to stretch, therefore denying the lever movement, therefore bypassing the governor.

    • @PBreezyify
      @PBreezyify 3 роки тому +2

      @@BuckeyeBallistics Okay I think I understand now, thank you. Basically I was envisioning the process happening in reverse to how it actually operates. I was thinking the first action was the spring getting stretched and then the 2nd action would be the governor initiating based on the spring stretch. It seems the Governor acts first though, and through that spring then restricts the throttle. So the governor arm still wants to act, but the spring not stretching isn't allowing it to push forward like it wants to.

      Did you delete the throttle stop? Because there is both a throttle stop, and also the governor. The zip tie method is just an easy bypass/cheat and certainly isn't permanent nor an extremely reliable method. • @rovidbouski4022

      I cut the throttle stop off completely. I didnt use a zip tie, I replaced the spring with a solid rod. It barely revs any higher than stock. My old Baja Warrior flew with just a zip tie, this 2021 Coleman CT200U-EX is MUCH slower.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  3 роки тому

      If the baja warrior had a belt drive system then that would be why, as the "torque converter" gives much higher top speed on stock/lightly modified bikes. Mine is screaming in the video, definately around 5000rpm- I even felt the valves float and the engine crack up some when I went down a slight hill and hit a few mph higher. So either the baja had a belt system, you messed with the linkage and thats why the tie method won't work, or maybe your gearing is wrong (if it has been messed with). I don't know what to tell you man- mine is reving high enough to float the valves if I don't back out of it. As I said, try removing the governor completely. If it doesn't change after that, then you definately got something else going on. Good luck.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому

      Yeah that's your valves floating, mine did the same around 30-31mph. Keep it just under that speed so you don't mess it up (all this was mentioned in the video). This is where you need to upgrade the valve springs so the vales don't float. But when you do that and go even faster with the new springs, then that's where you have to worry about the flywheel shattering and should replace the flywheel. The rod/rod bearing can do the same thing as well. Basically keep it just under 30mph, or prepare to either blow it or have to put a bunch of $$$ into it to keep it from doing so. Or you can change the sprokets so that it wont rev that high until 35-40mph, but then it will take longer to get going with that sproket setup and might burn up the clutch if you ride offroad. Or there's also the torque converter option which will let you go faster without over revving it (if you get the right one and leave the bike stock). If you're talking abput the throttle stops screw though, it shouldn't let it go that fast- mine only went 23 with the screw out.

      Loosen the zip tie some. Your thottle linkage/cable is either too tight or bent, so when you sinched up the zip tie, it pulled on the throttle some.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому

      Yes, which will obviously lower the speed and rpms some. But if you go down a steep enough hill it will probably still rev too high at full throttle. Or just get an electronic tach as I mentioned in the video to monitor the rpms and keep it below 5000rpm.

      Try this. My buddies bike had same isse: The smaller spring in front of the larger one. Stretch that out a little. It's pulling on the carburetor too much and won't allow a low idle.
      Make sure the black part on top of carb can return to seated position at idle. Or it's possible dirt got into that govener arm fulcrum point. Clean and lightly grease with caliper grease.

    FYI if the zip tie breaks while riding and your over the rev limit.. it WILL destroy your motor when the governor kicks back in way it’s normal rev limit

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  27 днів тому

      And how's that? I'm genuinely interested because you're literally the only person I have ever heard say this, and that includes many other peoples videos and comments on said videos. All the rev limiter does is pull back the throttle, and the zip tie prevents it from doing this. The zip tie breaking suddenly while you are over the rev limit is no different than just suddenly letting off the throttle while over the limit- which I have done numerous times and it doesn't "destroy" the engine lol. What you're saying literally makes no sense, proven by my previous sentence...

    • @Flockingtheherd

      @@BuckeyeBallistics the governor inside the crankcase is actually made of plastic gearing. It can shatter or crack if activated too quickly, which if it does would immediately ruin your engine. It’s best to either remove the governor entirely or if you want a slight speed boost there are several holes factory on the governor control arm, from factory it comes in position two but adjusting the spring itself to the furthest out hole will increase the speed the governor activates at. It’s also much safer and reliable than the zip tie method. This is one of the main reasons why the zip tie method is advised against

    That's not a governor delete, which requires the removal of parts and sealing the governor shaft bore. That's a governor override and be sure to post the video of when it galls the crank journal and breaks the rod.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 роки тому +1

      Semantics; I'd say "bypass". But when it comes to youtube videos, you have to title it the way most people will search for what they're looking for if you ever want them to find your video, and almost nobody is searching "governor override." If you understood that then maybe you'd have more than 10 subscribers on your channel. It's funny that the people with either no channel at all or small crappy channels like yours are always the ones talking crap.
      Lastly, I did speak on and warn in this video that over revving the engine could result in damages, that either caution to not over rev, or upgrading the engine was necessary to prevent this- so I'm not sure why you're being such a prick about it. Your channel name is definately very fitting, because you sure are a grumpy ass old man...
