    THANKYOU for all the kind comments, private messages and emails about this latest settings guide. I know I don't post these every week, but I get the impression this "settings" stuff that I started doing years ago has become click bait for other UA-camrs to get more views, therefore I only make these when I feel it's worth sharing new information. I'm super glad it's made a difference to so many of you and THAT is the reason I do them Cheers!

      I have this for Steam currently. Do I need to apply anything to the app there (resolution scaling?) or would it better for me to just purchase it through MS?

    Best settings I have tried since I got the G2 when it just came out.
    I have an RTX 3060 ti OC and using exactly the same settings as your video (you using an RTX 3090) I get spectacular results. 30+ fps And the clarity is something I didn’t know it was possible to get.

    Thanks, Steve, great informative! Just a note on my settings for a G2 2080Ti 9900K system, a cross between your 1080Ti and 3090 but with one crucial difference! I have Buildings, Trees, and Grass on HIGH. I can't compromise on this and it's really beautiful taking off from grass strips. I get smooth frames running OpenXR 70%, preview mode on, and projection automatic. MSFS settings I have render scaling 80% which is clear enough and almost all other settings HIGH. The experience in the G2 is utterly smooth, incredible to fly even over taxing areas like London and Paris. The performance changes in SU5 really have allowed me to experience this sim to the fullest in VR as a GA flyer anyway.

      If what you say is right then we really have a difference in what we call smooth or my 3080ti isn’t doing what it should. All my settings are same as what Steve has put and I can’t call it smooth. Iv been messing since the sim came out and it’s getting tiring.

    I had to replace my Quest 2 because I was getting the dreaded pink band through the bottom of the display when using MSFS. Saw the G2 go on sale again so bought it.
    First time I have tried using motion reproduction, and I am very happy. Took a huge hit in fps, but clarity when sightseeing flying close to the ground is so much better, an entirely new experience.
    Went from about 45 fps with OpenXR WMR set to 100 and resolution in MSFS to 100, to about 30 fps with, with dips down to low 20’s, with resolution set to 70 and 100.
    Still unsure what setting are most important to me, and which make the biggest difference in fps.
    Thanks for your work here! Looking forward to setting when DLSS support comes out of beta.

    Absolutely spot on that vid. It’s really just clarified quite a few points as that. Just what I needed. Your right where you say the “people” that do settings videos regular saying they get smoothness close to the ground without re projection, to put it quite simply, aren’t!! It’s misleading. It’s good to get that confirmation from you every now and again about the settings because there are still quite a lot of us without that 3090 card and need to optimise. Thanks 🙏🏻

      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks buddy, I appreciate that. I get a lot of hate for saying it (even from other UA-camrs would you believe). There is a reason why companies such as Oculus spent so much R & D to support asynchronous timewarp, in certain scenarios and when it's setup correctly, it's much smoother than without. Thankyou for your support!

      Alright, seems like the Render Scaling is fucking things up for me, I get a lot of stuttering while flying and looking down etc when I rase it.
      So, right now I got 70 on Render Scaling but it seems a bit low don't you think? I got a 5900X with a 3080 and I feel like it should be able to produce higher quality than this.
      I did fly over Los Angeles and tried to lower, raise and mix some settings and got to a point where I felt it was "acceptable". Any ideas?

  • @CakePrincessCelestia

    For those wondering about that 50/200% thing: FS (and DCS with the PD setting as well) scales per axis while OpenXR and Steam SS scale per area. So setting 200 in FS is the same as setting 400 in Steam/OXR while leaving the other at 100 respectively.
    Also, I always found leaving Anti-Aliasing off completely to be the biggest fps gain, especially on those resolutions that a G2 drives.

    Excellent video Steve👍thank you buddy👍 I would recommend cutted fps though. I got absolut no stutters. The frametimes are better.
    In addition to that:
    Flying from EGOV to Inverness with the Hawk low level with Motionreprojection OFF AND cutted frames at 45fps I got absolute no ghostings hiccups or stutters.
    I tried this flight with and without MR. The goal is to crank the settings in Msfs2020 down as you showed in your video and target at a constant frametimes. That is the reason for using a limiter. It is a bit technical but using motion reprojection the frametimes are round about 20-30 % higher than without. Using a limiter is only recommended if you are able to get a constant avg fps underneath the limiter settings. The limiter has the only function to limit the high fps peaks. It doesn't limit the framerate of the MR. I your system is able to get a avg 35 fps or above you don't need MR (and it is probably a matter of taste or if you are used to it lol). Only if your system produces ghostings looking 90 degrees left or right than it is necessary. For example in the 8kx you need motion smoothing because the fps are significantly lower. With SS you get constant 25 fps.
    Long words short. Without MR you need an limiter to prevent hiccups. With MR it depends on your system. Getting hiccups put the limiter to a higher limit or switch it off. I recommend trying without MR on a high end system. With lower specs I would recommend using MR analogue to the 8KX.
    There isn't any Holly Grail for Msfs2020. That's the problem. It is always try and error. For the not technical involved user your settings are easy to adapt but for diving deeper I would recommend slightly different settings. And yeah if you honest reader of my 2cents want to do that join Steve's Discord. There are crazy people like me who will help you for sure getting most out of your system.
    Everybody take care.

    Great setup advice video. I'll compare, set and forget... In WMR put all settings to "Optimise for performance" and have the mirror off and set home to low & 720p because it only has impact to home and mirror that is off so does not matter and time out to never and also all USB hubs in device manager uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". In Windows 11 Once in your WMR home wearing the G2 and turn on one of your controllers change your Place to "Infinitive Expanse" instead of default "Cliff House" because it's a much lighter space and gives more raw power to your GPU and will improve your performance a little because we need all the GPU power to run G2 in MSFS2020 and not that WMR place or mirror ;-)

    Thank you, Steve, for always coming back to the G2. It is still, in my opinion, the best combination of price and performance for sims. Someday something will come along that beats it for less than $1K but that day is still a long ways off, I think. I will go through *all* your settings and try them. I have disagreed with you in the past on the OpenXR/MSFS scaling settings, finding the instruments much more clear with a high openXR render scaling and a low MSFS scaling (to maintain a good fps) but I think it is time that I just blindly follow all your settings and give it a go! :-)

    Great vid, but I disagree with turning on Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling - at least for me (10600k, 3070) it drops FPS (30% lower) and lowers GPU utilization (hags off - 100%, hags on 70-80%). I also recommend trying bumping OXR from 70 to 80% with TAA 100 - some fps penalty is worth this resolution difference. With undervolted 3070 I'm using pretty similliar settings (except 80/100 res) but have to turn off contact shadows, AO and reflections (it actually looks nicer, msfs reflections are terrible with distracting shimmering and morphing) and I get pretty stable 30 fps.

    In the current version f the sim I think that the important thing is to use developer settings fps and other data to try to Balance the Main Thread, the Render Thread and the GPU so that each is limiting the fps some of the time while you are flying. I don't think it is helpful to try to follow someone else's settings for best VR experience. If you use Reprojection it is probable that the Main Thread is limiting you so you can up all your settings that impact the GPU until they are at a level that equals the Main Thread. If you have Reprojection off then it is probable that the GPU is limiting you so you need to decrease the GPU heavy settings to get the balance. I get excellent VR at nearly 30fps on my Samsung Odyssey 2070S with Reprojection off and lots of high graphics settings. I also have a HP Reverb G2 2080 i9 system where balancing Main, Render and GPU also gives even better VR at nearly 30fps. When testing I place my headset on my desk so that I can see better the Developer data and see the Main, Render and GPU battling for which is limiting the fps while I play with the graphics settings. I have found OpenXR render at 200 and Render scale at 40, 45, or 50 in the sim works well for me.

    I recently replaced my Rift S with a Quest 2 as the Rift was dying, random black screens and lockups that I tried everything I could think of software related to fix including a full Windows 10 reinstall in the hope that it wasn't hardware related :(
    I got the Quest 2 and the official link cable to replace it, partly based on price and partly availability, they had sheds loads of them on the shelf at PC World.
    I'm having difficulty dialling it in in MSFS ATM as it definably has lower framerates than the Rift.

    Figure out a way to connect two VR headsets in the same flight - one for pilot and the other sitting in the passenger seat. No doubt will need two computers networked, but I guess it might not even be possible until MSFS develops multi-screen view.

    Thanks for your insights on setting for VR, they are most helpful. I'm new to the VR world which seems with MSFS you're sent back down that forever tweaking rabbit hole that I thought I left behind with FSX. With my Reverb G2, using 3080 ti FTW3 driven by a 10700k at 4.9 Ghz, I find when moving my head I get jittering black tearing artifacts on the left and right edges of my FOV if I enable the OpenXR preview runtime or use the 496.49 driver, and reprojection simply introduces too many distortions IMO (any are to many for me). But using the 471.96 driver with default OpenXR setting, your settings guide has helped me nail down acceptable performance vs. visuals in my VC. Thanks!

      It's not a setting. It's actually a conflict of executables. You're probably still running job.exe alongside an instance of wife.exe. Also check to see if Wife.exe has spawned multiple child processes as they can suck a lot of resources and debugging and removing these can be time consuming and expensive.

    • @jorgentoll314
      @jorgentoll314 2 роки тому +1

      @@djtaylorutube you’re right! Is there something one can do about the OS? I think it’s the ”Home” version. It takes up almost all the available resources… A newer version is on order and backing up and uninstalling everything is taking time…

    • @djtaylorutube
      @djtaylorutube 2 роки тому +1

      @@jorgentoll314 Yup, Home version of the OS will do it without a doubt. Just be aware that any attempt to uninstall wife.exe or patch with wife2.0 will drain resources. Similarly, attempting to execute girlfriend.exe at the same time will end in failure as those processes are not compatible.

    Very comprehensive video. Even though I`m getting pretty nice performance in my G2 now, there's a few things mentioned here I'm now going to check out.
    Do you find there`s any pros or cons to having MS Automatic or Always on? For a while I’ve just set it to always on and it seems to work great. I’m also one of those who`s tried hard to fly without any MS and no matter what settings its never close to the smoothness of having it on. Its smoothish, but not totally smooth fluid motion without any stutters. Plus I really don’t see those artifacts with it turned on. The propellers look smooth in their motion, and none of the other weird distortions around the plane or in the scenery others still seem to point out. Got to be a settings thing. Only thing is yes maybe its a bit clearer with it off, but not by much. But the smoothness achieved through MS trumps everything for me. I just can’t be seeing any stutters anywhere, it hurts the eyes and breaks immersion. Its a game changer!
    One other thing, some people have suggested lowering the pc settings in the sim and also switching that to windowed. Do you think that gives any noticeable performance gains in VR?

    • @VRFlightSimGuy
      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jamie glad you enjoyed the video, I haven't noticed any difference to be honest but I'll certainly give the "always on" setting another try, but I find auto better if for any reason, my fps cannot reach the target, it will just disable MR until things recover. For me, oddly enough windowed mode gives me less performance than full screen! I do think this is GPU dependant though. But I agree, reprojection is so important when used correctly, I don't think many people really understand how to use it tbh!
