VR settings guide - What you NEED to know! My very latest VR settings that work really well for me in Sim Update 5 for BOTH my 8600K, 1080ti and 10900k, RTX3090 systems. Let me know what settings YOU find useful below!
@@benjaminworthen7717 same here RTX3090 i9-10900k - same settings as Steve but can only have render scale at 100 or the head tracking goes mental - was talking with Steve on FB group and he was a great help and gave me lots of his time but still not fixed - have given up now and just dropped render scale to 100 and works
@@benjaminworthen7717 last night I updated to the latest Nvidia driver 471.96 and HAGS off (wouldn't normally do this) but I did and can now have render scale up to 125 with no wobble....now v happy
Thanks a lot Steve. I actually tweaked my own settings yesterday, to a level of 28 or more fps everywhere. Now I'm gonna give these settings a go. Exciting times. :-) RTX3070 AirVEntus OC, I7-10700k 32 GB RAM So happy to be able to fly again. I simply moved my install folder in Steam from my SSD to a regular harddisk. NO idea whatsoever WHY that worked, but I saw a few guys in MSFS forum mentioned it. Cheers m8
Thanks Steve! Will try this after honey do list completed.😂 Haven’t had any serious problems after update 🤞🏾 but have definitely noticed the reduce quality in graphics and cloud rendering. Also noticed more pop ins then before update. The hot fix did help in that area, patience is the key! Happy flying my friend👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😂😂😂
My G1 is still great and seems to improving all the time. One day I will go for the G2 but the G1 does the business for me. Thanks for the info as always.
I have the Reverb G2 and... i7 9700k @5ghz, 32GB RAM and RX6900XT... no way to keep render scaling above 70 and the other settings to high. I see a lot of vibrations in the scenery especially when making turns or when at low altitude i pass alongside a building or trees
Thanks Steve as always. Must have been a big effort to provide this content and much appreciated. My VR settings are higher than yours but the out of cockpit experience sucks. It runs super smooth but Manhattan, for instance, looks awful whereas 2d has never been better.

Wow! Thank you so much for this, Steve. My settings were completely off since the update and these work wonders for me. For 2080TI users: try HAGS again. I had CTDs before but they seem to have fixed it.
in the open xr settings you said to leave the preview selection off, but left it on before continuing on to explain in game settings. just to confirm, should this be on or off currently? Am i also right in assuming that motion reprojection will give you a smoother overall feel, but may make certain things like text or instruments in cockpit view blurry? I cant wait to try this setup later, and will lose my mind if i get the same stuttery performance as before haha. If that happens I will try a full reinstall of EVERYTHING (msfs, openxr, WMR, Nvidia drivers, and anything else i can think of outside of reinstalling windows lol) If that still doesnt work, ill have to return the headset. $600 headset with a $3000 dollar custom PC should work flawlessly. I've played some games where the graphics look insanely good with no stuttering, but only msfs gives me trouble. I also need to give my eyes time to adjust to the sweet spot. I also may buy that counterweight thats supposed to help the headset stay in the sweetspot better than without it. I find myself constantly adjusting the headset to keep my eyes in the sweet spot. It just seems like its been such a hassle and I havent been able to even try to get my plane off the ground because the stuttering and ghosting and horrible resolution makes me rage quit. Have you noticed you were changing the PC tab and not the VR tab? Yeees, I didn't know traffic has its own tab for VR. Check the VR tab for traffic, as default I think it was all maxed out. Yes in games with a "VR mode" please remember that ultra settings are for pancake mode. Never expect to be able to crank everything to max and get great performance regardless of your rig.
Hi Steve, I also have the same setup as your old computer, rocking a 1080ti here, just a quick question, is your open xr still on 70% and your in game render scale at 75 for the 1080ti setup, also are you using motion reprojection and do you really have your texture res set to ultra with the 1080ti also using reverb g2 as well. I can't move or change views. I can switch between cockpit and that 1 outside view only. Any idea on what I need to change or set with regard to camera view in VR? Sorry for more questions, I hate to be a vampire sucking your time and energy away asking dumb questions!

One quick question...is there a reason why you set your Texture Filtering Quality to Performance, rather than High Performance in the manage 3D settings? is High Performance too big of an fps killer? Thanks for the video Steve, tried your settings (same rig) and the sim is still very broke compared to post patch, its laggy as hell too, looks horrible way too bright and over saturated even with the edits in the UsefCFG.opt file, it sure isn't the game I purchased on release, man I hope they really fix this us for us.
Could you please explain us the frame timing overlay? I enabled it, but i don't understand the values and what i should watch when trying different graphics settings.
Would love to see a Quest 2 guide. No matter what I do, and with all the tinkering I've done, I just can't seem to get rid of that 'muddy' look. RTX 3070, 5600X
Thanks for making this Steve, just a question in case you've had a similar error... I can use VR in MSFS when using Steam VR no problem, but whenever OpenXR is enabled (i.e. the Regedit points towards OpenXR, as you've shown in your previous videos) - if I select VR mode, it quickly goes into VR mode for a second, and then back to normal. This means I can't really optimise VR for MSFS as I can't use OpenXR. Would be very grateful if you have any advice! (If I enable OpenXR in SteamVR, the same thing happens)
Enjoy following all your video setups . Ran into problem with my g2 . Light on power cable is blinking and making a clicking noise so head unit not powering up. Really miss vr .
Another useful and informative one Matey! A quickie if I may - with the OpenXR settings app, does it dynamically change settings whilst you're in MSFS2020-VR or does one need to restart both the Sim and WMR apps??
@@johncrichton4341 you're welcome! It says in OpenXR to restart the app for the change to take effect, but come to think of it it could be WMR portal or Msfs 🤔

@@VRFlightSimGuy And it solved the USB issue that are common in amd x570 systems, before it was just one of the ports that worked ok. I Added a USB C card as well trying to get it better but it didn't work but with that rev2 one it works as a charm :). So now with the 22fps open XR reprojection seems to works pretty fine with my quite crappy 5700xt gpu, kind of a sweet spot in fps for it i think, it cant handle more in VR ;). I'm really enjoy your videos, thanks for the effort.
Hey Steve, I kept my Nvidia 3080 power to bother and I noticed it caps the video graphics card use to 7gb. Therefore with a 3080 it's much better on max performance. I think you get away with normal due to the 3090
Thank you for once again providing some useful tips for getting better performance! There was a small windows update a few days ago that apparently improves the game mode setting. I've downloaded it, but as I've been tinkering with other settings I couldn't say if that update has made a difference or not.
i have exactly the same system as you. However, if I set the render scale to 110% VR becomes instantly unusable! It goes slow to the point where I have to come out of it. As soon as I set render to 100% everything is fine. My settings are exactly the same as yours.... including OpenXR, same Nvida driver, same Nvidea settings the lot!
Just curious, do you use the USB 3.0 connector on the VR rig, or do you use the adapter for 2.0? I can't get mine to work in the 3.0 connections on my PC.
With my render scaling, in VR I see a resolution on mine. And at 100% it's pushing like, 3K X 3K resolution. I don't run open XR. What is your "resolution" in VR?
Thanks for the 1080ti settings, got to go and try ‘em now as I did some unstructured fiddling with my settings to get the H135 cockpit sharp and lost a lot of frames. I use steamVR and OVRTOOLS to get VATSIM, Teamspeak and.PDFs into the G2 cockpit. I’ve got steamVR configured to use OpenXR but not sure that’s the right was to do it. Have you done any testing with this setup.
@@freakonflight still running the 1080ti and getting 35-45 in the H135 and Justflight PA28. Ditched OVRTools as it started eating frames and was very unstable. Thinking I could tweak my settings a bit ‘cos I’ve got frames to spare.

@@freakonflight After the last set up updates Xbox reset my settings to default and I pretty much went with asobs recommendation for my machine. Haven’t had much time to play with the settings.
Honestly I am surprised you aren't running most settings at Ultra with your 3090. It seems SU5 has degraded graphics quality to the point where even at Ultra, your GPU and CPU are unlikely to be maxed.

Check the VR tab for traffic, as default I think it was all maxed out.

You need to restart if you change render scaling and most of the options

The WMR portal usually gives you the option to 'fix' the runtime these days which is much easier :)

I have MSFS through Steam: do you do anything with the video resolution settings in SteamVR if running OpenXR?

I can run Ultra, but I prefer the extra headroom. Smoothness and FPS consistency is so important.
