Wow that's a great tip! I just tried with the G2 and can also say it matches the clarity of the Varjo Aero within the sweetspot, and the clarity outside the sweetspot is much better then it's used to. On low settings i can even get it really smooth at 45 motion reprojection, and 30 at normal settings. Somehow it handels the supersampling much better within openxr then ingame...
The reason that it handles super sampling "better" in open XR than in the game Is that the open XR setting is changing the total number of pixels to 200% of normal. Whereas the in-game setting set to 200 is changing both horizontal and vertical resolution to 200% of normal. So setting the in-game to 200 is actually like 4x the total number of pixels. Try an experiment where you change the super sampling in open XR to some number like 200% and look at the resulting resolution in the graphics options menu in the game and then put open XR back to 100% and turn the in-game scale up to 200 and you will see that it is a significantly higher resolution. That's why it's harder for the GPU to handle it.
Based on recommendations from another UA-camr recently I have been using the OpenXR Toolkit to override the resolution up to 4300xwhatever with the CAS up scaling and 100% sharpening. You can then use DLSS on Performance mode to get 60 fps. I had given up on DLSS in VR because of the blurring but with the super sampling it looks amazing.
Sorry can you explain or tell me where to find that video ?
@@jango71 ua-cam.com/video/FJLiMlCQ_fI/v-deo.html
now that sounds juicy. Damn I need a 4090. tired of scrapping and clawing to get 35-45 fps on my 3080 g2 with DLSS
@@jimmy8x541 I came from a 3080Ti. It will literally double your fps. You will have to decide whether to try and attain 90 fps native with sacrifices to the visuals, lock 45 fps with motion reprojection and max settings, or somewhere in between…because ALL will be achievable with the 4090 depending on your settings. I assumed that I was going to be happy locking 45 fps with reprojection because that was always my goal with the 3080Ti. I ended up preferring no reprojection. Using the super sampling + DLSS trick I have a much sharper image than I’ve ever seen, at high settings, and 60+ fps. By throttling it to exactly 60fps it seems to give my system a bit of headroom and result in consistent smooth frames. Whatever you end up preferring, the 4090 will give you options you didn’t have before 😁. It definitely sucks that scalpers add $500 to an already very high price and there is literally nothing most of us can do to avoid that. If you have disposable income and this is your #1 hobby, just do it. Otherwise, don’t chase the rabbit. The fundamental experience in MSFS will still be the same.
@@jgarrets I spend a couple hours a day in VR MSFS, and I'm going to start learning DCS soon, so I'm definitely going to get my money's worth ;)
You really want to force me to rob a bank and buy a Nvidia RTX 4090 ;-) Great content but should come with a warning "can cost you money"' with watching this video haha Great video my friend.
I managed to resist his enthusiasm on the 3090 2 years ago…
but he got me with the 4090🤷♂️
It arrives tomorrow!
Upgrading from 2080ti on a 9900k - hoping to get a decent performance boost!
Great job Steve😉
@@TheLanngillap Congrats buddy. You won't regret it :)
It's the best card I have ever purchased, I know the price is disgusting but it is a beast. I put all settings on max in FS2020 and even put ray tracing on and it's buttery smooth in VR. I have never seen a card this smooth, I don't have to upgrade for a few years now
So you do not commit the great train robbery but the great plane robbery 😂
Holy Cow! Finally, a tip that actually works. The graphics sharpness makes it possible to actually read the altimeter iHg numbers. I actually bumped my RTX-3080ti up to 250 and still maintained 37 frames. Come to think of it, This is the first "More FPS" video I've seen that even mentions the WMR settings. Now if we could find a magic adjustment for the very disappointing 8Kx.
Which sharpening mate, I need to check it out. What settings is that?
@@sephiroth4543 that's what this video is all about
I use it on 180% on DCS. Always worth trying to pump it up on the 4090. Works also on driving sims too but you really need 90 fps for them so it's not as effective as flight sims as you notice it if its only 60fps. In MSFS it's 200%, ultra settings and DLSS. Great frame rate.
Nice one. It's really a pity WMR is not optimized as it should be :( Anyway, for now I'll stick to my G2, waiting for some wider FOV to arrive.
I would love to see videos with it set to 125% or 150%. The Sharpness at 125% should nearly match the Aero and I think the increase in FPS is more important in VR vs absolute maximum sharpness. Just my opinion of course.
it is such a shame hp put such bad lenses in the g2, the display underneath is superb
G2 Lenses are pretty decent, no issues with them and I have the Pico 4 and Quest pro so I have seen them all. G2 is one of the best vr headsets
I've been doing this ever since i got my 4090 in IL-2 Sturmovik in my G2, i found the clearest image for highest FPS i can get is 220% in open xr toolkit and FXAA on.
Great demonstration project- I moved up from my 3080ti to the 4090, and Im still keeping my Reverb G2. $2k is a lot of cheese for the Aero right now.
I love how Steve says fortee ninetee
id absolutely love an RTX 4090, but for me its 6 to 7 months mortgage payments or 1 GPU. as an unpaid carer for my additional needs kid, it took me long enough to save up for my 3070 that i got for MSRP just after launch, id had a 1050 for years, skipped the 20XX series altogether and just saved like crazy. savings since then are going towards a PC for her moving into secondary school after the summer and im afraid shell have to stick with intel iGPU (only her case and SSD will be new). other priorities despite how much i love gaming and FS.
Thanks so much for doing the video mate! I find that at 200% render scale, DLSS on balanced mode gives you a nice bump in frames. Not sure what you were using in this demo.
Hopefully you have just shown a nice alternative for ppl that have the graphic card grunt available but can't quite afford the Aero yet.
Cheers
My absolute pleasure mate. Thanks again 🙏😊
Just purchased G2 to stop me buying an Aero. Sounds strange, but im very impulsive.
This will be my 3rd g2, but now i have a 13900k a d 4090 (with quest pro) i want that sharpness back.
Every night the aero made it to the basket. Lol
Looking forwad to cranking the g2 up.
Still keeping my pro. Love it.
I run my 8k x at 125% and just recieved my 4090 so may try boosting it to 150 or 175 although it's pretty darn clear at 125
Ooh. I'll give this a try 😁
Probably at 150% will be sweet spot for the G2. But still shows that the G2 is best bang for buck in my opinion.
I agree………and Up The Irons!! 🤘🏼
I just installed the 4090 last night, and I have an unopened box with the Aero goggles inside, just waiting on the 2.0 base stations to arrive tomorrow...
Might try the G2 tonight and see how much better they are with the 4090..
Merry Christmas
I just got my Aero and it's amazing! Big jump up from my G2. Feels like it's a next get Headset! There's no doubt bang for the buck the g2 is the king. But there is edge to edge clarity in the Aero at a resolution that is much better than the G2. The blacks and colors are a lot better too!
@@TheGreekbull Yes, exactly!
@@jamescooper5183 lol and I just added a 4090 over the weekend. The Aero and 4090 were meant for each other! Running DCS maxed out and 130% in OpenXR. It's awesome
I can get just as good resolution In the G2 using 160% in OXR and dialing down the FOV using the OXR Toolkit to 93% and lock on at 30FPS or even 45FPS in rural areas in a GA aircraft with MR enabled. Alternatively you can set OXR to 100% and upscale using custom resolution in the Toolkit, say 4,800 by whatever with CAS sharpening at 100%. I'd say that the increase in sharpness with my 4090 in the G2 is more impressive and a way better experience even than the FPS increase without the upscaling. In fact it knocked my socks off. Even so, I have a Pico 4 in transit and will see how that goes doing the same thing, tethered via an ethernet adaptor to USB C. At least until the Pimax Crystal comes out. Recent reviews using MSFS from their Roadshow tour looks promising for the Crystal.
And Varjo = Insane price (with no AMD compat too). Tried the PIMAX Crystal. Visuals just stunning on that headset. Now if only they could get all their features working and mature, it just MAY be a thing.
Great video, thank you! I scanned through and couldn't find the answer below - I just have trouble understanding how super sampling makes the pixels seem actually denser? If there is a ppd pixel density set by the physical hardware, how does supersampling actually reduce the appearance of the space between the pixels? Thanks again!
Thanks James, sorry I've no idea how it works :)
Iv gone with the 4090 and it’s just incredible with everything …
I’m still yet to make a decision on VR !!!
Although I have 2 x old oculus rift and rifts S …
Thinking about a 4090 after waiting for 7900 xtx and being disappointed. The 4080 looks not so much better than a 3090ti and priced poorly.. May as well blow it and go 4090
Question... is this the best currently available for vr?? Or is it bottlenecked due to resolution and the 4080 could do similar results?? They say 1440p is a waste of 4090 but I'm assuming running 2 lenses at 2160 x 2160 will push it to 8k levels??
I have been turning 200 in open xr with g2 4090 for a while now,I'm able to get up to 60fps still in cruise in the Fenix A320 and still a not bad 40fps at payware airports, just had to tweak some cpu settings to get out if the cpu bottleneck with a 13700k.
I find it crazy that the Reverb G2 is so cheap on the used market. I was actually considering getting one used instead of a used Quest 2, because they're actually a bit cheaper on eBay. The only problem is that I knew my older gaming laptop would be able to run PCVR with the Quest, but the Reverb was unlikely. As I understand it, it can be quite demanding. It's interesting to see how we are still a bit limited by the hardware of the day. The 4090 is a beast, and is priced as such (albeit maybe overpriced), but I am surprised to see that not even it could run the Reverb at a supersampled resolution.
so: now you have to supersample the Aero as well, to get same 35ish Framerates like here with the supersampled G2
supersampling the Aero should also make a better image
Way cool experiment👍
Thanks for sharing! Would be superinteresting if you did the same test with Quest 2. I know the Fresnels will be a weak spot but there are a lot of Quest owners out there I reckon. Would the 4090 be able to bring them back to life in VR as well with some serious superssampling? My 1080ti can't handle the pixels the quest 2 in FS due to the compression. Too much for poor old GPU :-) but it has served me well since I started with VR back in 2017.
But what if you run the Varjo Aero at say 150% or higher. You opened up a range of tests that just have to be done. Possibly with through lens photos of the cockpit instruments because that's where the sharpness matters most.
If you can afford a 5090, you can afford a various.
Great ! now i know i can get excited when i have enough money in 2050 to buy a 4090
I wonder if you would be able to do the same with the 4080 because in most of these 4090 VR/MSFS videos, the main thread of the CPU seems to always be the real limit to frame rate. That was the case I saw in this video. The CPU was clearly the bottleneck. I am thinking that the 4080 might be a better math to an i9 13000 card because even here, the CPU seems to still be the limit.
can the openXR tool, you show there be adjusted in Windows, and it works as well for me s only have oculus meta 2, i wil change VR later in june. i just need more cash first.
Why did you remove the varjo motion smoothing video?
Could you try this with PICO 3 Neo Link and maybe give us recm. setting?
Pc + 4090 + Varjo Aero + Accesories and controllers = Plane in real divorce or divorce!
Whhhhhhat?
Isn't it an opposite to DLSS (it could do something similar without real mega-rendering)?
where du you open this tool in windows? or its a other place i can download it?
Could you please explain how to get MSFS 2020 playable in VR? At first I had a laptop i7 11800H, rtx 3070, 64GB RAM, oculus rift s - unplayable in VR.
Then my new rig i9 13900K, rtx 4090, 32GB RAM, oculus rift s. Much better but still small stutters when look in the side windows. Then I sold Rift S and took Reverb G2 Rev2 and was a bit disappointed. Sweetspot is a way worse than in Rift S. I can’t get use to it and always move the headset trying to get sharper view. Then the performance. While in Rift s I played on high VR settings and in a flat screen with dlss and frame generation in 4k it was 100-110 fps, but with G2 it is sooo laggy! Terrible, jaggy, laggy, strobolike. I played XR toolkit but didn’t get any playable rate. It gives 30-35 fps and even if I look it to 30 it stutters. Kayak VR also choppy as if it runs 30 fps. Half life Alyx says my 24Gb 4090 doesn’t have enough video memory to run on ultra or even on high settings. That’s really disappointing.
How can I at least make it run without stutters? So many people cherish the Headset but I see no why or how get it to like.
Hi Steve, I saw that you posted "VARJO AERO MOTION PREDICTION IS LIVE! HOWEVER..." but it tells me it's private, I'm all crazy to see this update but I can't do much with the Varjo Base software, 'graphical stuff happens rare'.
Is correct?... Thank you very much and MERRY CHRISTMAS friend😀👐🤝
Yes apologies there was an issue with the video processing sorry. I basically state that it's not ready yet. I'd recommend keeping with the previous Varjo Base software. Merry Christmas ⛄
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you very much Steve for such a quick response, with your statement yes, unfortunately 3.8.0.6 seems unstable, at least the motion smoothing issue. A cordial greeting, see you soon👐
If only you could replace the fresnel lenses on the G2. Because that sweet spot is no where close to the Aero. I have both headsets and the Aero ruined the G2 for me lol
How good would it be to have pancake lenes in the G2 😗🙂
not work for me:( 100% or 200% too same) you run with openxr toolkit? thx
I run it at 250 and its great!!
fps round 32/38 above londen/new york and in the 320 phoenix. no way I will pay 2000 for an aero 😅
250?! Wow
Cam you share the ingame vr settings please?
I have settings guide on the channel
@@VRFlightSimGuy please give a link because you have so many settings and comparison videos…
I’m just not getting the results with my 4090, 12900 that I’m seeing everyone else is enjoying. 3 days of trying to get a descent fps to no avail. It’s excellent in rural areas, 55+ But in my test area of NYC it’s a disaster at 10-15fps and consistent ctd’s. Much worse than my 3080 it replaced. That isn’t right. All testing is with empty community folder and default Cessna out of JFK. Unflyable! DX11, DLSS Balanced, OXRTOOLKIT 100% No MR, Hags off, RTSS 45, clean reinstall latest nvidia driver twice! Freezes and crashes often when exiting G2 in VR. I’ve literally tweaked every parameter in every suggested combination. I didn’t expect this from all the sensational reviews and recommendations, and enormous cost. I simply cannot fly dense scenery area at all anymore now that I have a 4090 :(
At that rate just buy an aero. 4090 and a g2 just to get worst frames than the aero for a higher cost of just buying an aero don’t seem very practical lol
Why aren't you combining this with DLSS? I can still get 45fps locked with DLSS quality, OXR200.
Because I'm going for absolute clarity here, not performance
Use DLSS Balanced or Quality.
Honestly who owns a 4090 and just have a g2. That's like owning a Ferrari and being homeless lool
How does the outside look like ?
Good question. Looks sharp but not Aero sharp
Knowing that the display does not know if it is showing the inside or the outside of the cockpit, and my cockpit is amazingly sharp even with my Reverb G1, doesn’t that mean that the outside could be equally sharp if the rendering and computing power of CPU + GPU could process it?
just tell me -- should i buy the 4090 OR the AERO - and run the AERO with my 3080?
Aero will work with a 3080 but VR is way better with the extra horsepower
@@D-money813 means i got to buy both...the aero and 4090 ;)+
@@screwerh2890 you got a good head on your shoulders!
@@D-money813 still bothering ;)
Get one or the other and you’ll be happy either way both make a world of difference but combined together it’s as close to reality as I ever seen
pico4 at 200% compared to G2 at 200%?
Pico 4 sucks, you will Nevers run it at 200% without a câble.
Clarity to see super clear tons annoying bugs all over maps .
Sorry for this unrelated comment, but I just got a G2 and I simply cannot believe how small the sweet spot is. It feels like it's less than 5 degrees.
I have an aero on the way so this comparison is appreciated.
That was what drove me to the Aero from the G2 as well. Aero is essentially like the G2 with slightly sharper visuals over about 80% of the FOV.
I was also disappointed of the small sweetspot but after installing inserts from VrOptician, it felt much better. Curious to know if others have the same experience?
But...but the image is shaking. I wouldn't care what the resolution is but a shaking image is unacceptable. The rendered scenery also looks dull and lacking in clarity, and under exposed. I just don't see the point.
You're new to VR videos right?
VR SIM GUY, I've been watching your videos for a while now. I recently bought the Varjo Aero and I'm still getting stuttering while flying and I can't get steam vr to work. The Varjo installation instructions don't really cover steam. My question is do you need to use steam or just the Varjo software and fs 2020? If you do need steam and steam vr what sequence do you start the software? For example do I start Varjo then steam vr then fs 2020 or is the software started in some other order. Also, my computer is an Asus rog strip x299-e gaming motherboard with 256 gigs of ram with a 4090 gpu. Please help!
I'm not doubting what you are saying isn't true, but I am seeing quite the opposite, even with my old antique RTX-3080ti. The first thing that hit me was the clarity and color brightness. Trouble is... there are so many variables at play. I'd say there is only about 1:100 shot of getting the setup perfect, or even close.
@VR Flight Sim Guy I have previously owned an hp reverb g2. Unfortunately I dropped it and broke it. That was the driving force that made me decide to buy the Varjo. However, while the clarity is great, I'm not getting the performance that you are getting. Also, I just did a complete new install, operating system included before the Varjo Aero arrived. I also should tell you that I'm a disabled veteran, in a wheelchair and all of my computer installation is done by a friend who owns a computer business. I did install fs 2020. Also, my friend does vr gaming but not fs 202.
@@jakekershisnik2983 Hey man, I have a Varjo as well. Here is what you do. Open Base, then click Steam VR WITHIN the base. Then open the actual steam software and launch the game from there. It will give you a warning but just click ok . The sim will load on your main computer screen. Once you are ready to fly put the headset on and calibrate the eyes. When it tells you to hit any button, tap the button on the side of the headset so that it will start the calibration. Then once its done press Ctrl and Tab on your keyboard and it will take you inside the sim. Hope that helps.- This is for the sim if you purchased it through steam.
