For ur sister i think u need to just keep going, i been rollersetting my hair regularly since the beginning of the year and i didnt start getting consistent amazing results until September/october.
Beautiful hair!!..i roller set my hair weekly and love it. I actually also do not love the influence foam for my roller set..i use the same base before i roll. I use my loreal 21 in 1 leave in conditioner plus olaplex 9 serum and then use the doux gangsta wrap it gives a great hold..but the key to a great set is the technique..getting the right amount of tension on the hair before the rollers is key and then stop and roll and pull taught makes a difference..also i love to use a hair oil and antihumidty spray before I use a steam flat iron..i prefer it over regular iron..I'm going to try Nairobi foam next but I keep going back to the doux gangsta wrap..because it's so good but it really boils down to how hydrated you can get their hair before setting it. I deep condition weekly
Thank you for sharing your routine!! I’ve been researching serums and anti humidity sprays too! Have you found any that you really like? How would you describe your hair texture? What steam iron are you using?
@JadeGodbolt my favorite serums are bumble and bumble invisible oil or dove bond shield 10 in one...I use amika anti humidity spray. Loreal has a flat iron called a steampod. I got an affordable verison from amazon called Bettyliss steam flat iron. This actually helps to seal moisture even better than a traditional flat iron. My stylist put me onto it. My hair is fine and medium cottony hair texture. Let me know if you end up trying any of these. It has made a huge difference
I love the L’Oréal 21 in 1 leave in with water…or the Marc Anthony bond repair leave in. Once dry i apply an oil and press the roots. At the end i use good old fashioned oil sheen to combat the frizz. I try foams. They work for flexirods imo, but even when it LOOKS good, i dont like how my hair feels. So i skip foam for a straight rollerset and leave foams for tighter curled set styles.
I think when I would get roller sets it was the length of time under the hooded dryer and maybe a stronger mousse. Id say between you two my hair is more like hers.
You may have better success by also applying a good leave in conditioner to the hair. I have type 4 hair. Even when I had a relaxer , I had to use leave in conditioner under my setting lotion with my own roller sets. My preferred leave in was Nexxus Humectress, which could be left in or rinsed out, but I don’t know if the current formulation can be left in. Rusk sea kelp conditioner also worked well. With all the spray leave in conditioners out on the market now, you’re bound to find one that’s moisturizing, yet doesn’t weigh the hair down. I recently purchased one for curlies by Kristen Ess, which I really like, and I also like Creme of Nature’s Argan oil from Morocco Perfect 7.
Back in the 90s and earlier we did roller sets because we had no other choice. The blow dryers were not as effective or powerful for blow outs on types 3 and 4 hair so your best bet was a roller set. Relaxers were foisted on everyone as well as the only respectable way to wear your hair if it had texture so people with relaxed hair had an easier time with rollers coming out with a perfectly smoothed result than those of us that kept our natural curls and coils. You took the hour or so it took to put in your rollers or sat there all that time and had them put in for you, they had to be rolled properly or it would come out badly (too much hair in one roller, parts too wide for the roller width, wrong roller size, not wrapped tight enough, ends not smoothed so they bent or kinked), and not everyone was good at putting in rollers. Then you sat under the drier for HOURS. Yes, it took HOURS to dry (after all that time it took to put them in before you even got to the drier), and if you came out before the hair was completely dried and removed the rollers too soon your hair would revert and the style and all that time it took would be ruined. You absolutely must only take rollers out of fully dried hair. The sections that were not set to the roller shape in this case were not fully dried, this is not a product issue. This is why most of us, when flat irons and round hot air brushes came out, let out a collective sigh of relief. You couldn't pay me now to sit through a roller set. I only ever use a hooded dryer now for deep conditioning treatments, and honestly steam is better. The modern day benefit of a roller set is to stretch, shape, or smooth your hair with low (or lower) heat and manipulation. Other than that it's just a long drawn out process. Roller sets also do not stand up to humidity like a press with a flat iron and silicone does. One rain storm or foggy day and again, hours of work ruined. I used to get so upset when that happened LOL
It used to take HOURS to dry my hair and I was relaxed. I remember we started out with flat wraps and wrap and tap. Then we graduated to roller sets. Even thought I was relaxed. My hair was super healthy! And sometimes I’d use a big barrel curler.
That’s the cutest little baby girl. Your sister and her hair look beautiful.
What an adorable baby!👶

@@JadeGodboltI like Verb’s Ghost Oil, Olaplex’s heat protecting oil, and Fable & Mane’s Amla serum (may or may not be too heavy).

I recommend the color wow extra strength drawn coat spray and the amika humidity defense hair serum

The rollers need more tension. Have you thought about using the Olivia garden rollers. Also what about mizani press agent
I love it
Try my hair next! #DFW
The key is not to use mousse or foam
Interesting....
Please elaborate. What would we use instead?
