This show feels like it could only exist in a universe where animation is treated as a medium where anything is possible. But since animation isn't treated that way in this universe by the general public, a show like Scavengers Reign feels like it would be impossible to exist. The fact that it does exist is so surreal though. There needs to be more shows like this that break the stereotype of what animated shows are like

I was so invested with such a unique setting and ecosystem that I had to take snapshots of all the flora and fauna and make up my own words or names for them. Though I hear the creators are planning or already making a book to showcase Vesta's animals and plants, and maybe its weather like the metal shard storm.
I almost wish that scavengers reign would eventually become like an anthology series where maybe every two seasons they showcase new characters on a different kind of planet. Or just keep it on Vesta
I put on the first episode of this show one night just so I could see what my brother kept gushing about. I stayed up until one or two AM to watch the whole thing even though I had work in the morning because I couldn't pull myself away. Truly one of the most creative and human shows I've ever seen.
As a creator, Scavenger's Reign feels like something only artists can make. Not just something original, but something that requires an intimate understanding of the outside world and the worlds inside each of us on both a visual and philosophical level. I love how it isn't afraid to be silent sometimes, it's just such masterful storytelling. The highlight for me is Azi and Levi, their development is just so beautiful. The animation is also just something else, it's a shame Moebius isn't around to see it. It's kind of miraculous that something this technically marvelous is coming outside of the mainstream studios, it gives me hope for the future of animation.
Im some months behind finding this anime. But I can tell you some masterful hands were behind it. There are all the classic highlights from animation of past glory in this one. The creators respect the mystery and dont over explain. Some parts are left unfinished such as the books the lady took. However overall it is well done. The music is what brings it all together and it is all heavily 90s inspired. Also if you are a fan of rimworld this setting will be very familiar. Even down to the cryptocaskets. The intro music has that same tone as that of the man in the high castle. Which really brings out the emotion. The best movies are about a group. Not one just one character. This series shows why.
I tried so hard to get any mf body to just watch it. Nobody was interested and it actually pisses me off greatly. People love to complain about bad shows but NOBODY supports a decent show anymore. Scavengers Reign is EASILY one of the best shows of the last ten years.
It's probably hard to get into if you dislike silence. The show is very introspective and quiet at many moments. It feels very mellow compared to others.

The true travesty here is it was on the top 10 of Max for weeks, literally after the season finale I kept track 4 weeks it was popular, and yet they still canceled it, obviously they didn't care... I beg you people give it a shot!
What makes this show so unique from other sci-fi shows and movies is how it creates its ecosystems and dynamics of how its flora and fauna interacts. Even the weather in Vesta (planet's name) is so unusual. A moving wall that seems technological but is actually alive? A storm that pours down metal shards which spread like an infection? A plant that can take your DNA and make a clone out of you that tracks you down to bury you alive??? KRAZY WORLD BUILDING!
I don't actually see a real ecosystem (biologist here). I just see a bunch of neat ideas with cool designs thrown in together. yeah the running birds somehow symbiotically work with the white trees...but thats pretty much it.
My favorite part was the scene where they show the life cycle of the cloning trees. They could have easily just made it a tree that just makes clones of animals that take the original animal's place cause that's what every piece of media involving evil clones does, but then they showed that it's actually how it reproduces, and it really fleshed out how the ecosystem of the planet works and it was amazing
exactly! one of my most favorite scenes, it was as fascinating as it was disturbing. Even though it was the "threat", the show gave it a proper place in its ecosystem. You need to have such an insane amount of knowledge about how plant life, nature in general works to be able to imagine something of the sort. I cant even begin to imagine the amount of research they had to do to come up with this.
except it makes no sense. the clone serves no purpose. it does not need or even try to actually get the trust of the herd. it just catches up and then immediately burst into acid. not to mention the forest they came through was massive but the way it reproduces it should be in smaller clusters. also, what purpose does the clone actually serve? just infect the animal with something that makes it contaminate the others.
literally one of the best animations I've seen ever, it makes my top 10 at least. It's unique, beautiful, interesting in a variety of ways, and has good characters that you both root for and hate in the good way. If you haven't watched it yet I *HIGHLY* recommend leaving this video *NOW* and watching it as blind as possible, a lot of that wow factor comes from seeing everything for the first time.
2:37, The mechanical nature of the planet’s ecosystem and how various beings are symbiotically (or sometimes, parasitically) utilized also contrasts with the more chaotically natured humans, each with their own flaws and vices, unable to connect or find harmony with each other or the world around them at it’s many dangers threaten to make them just another part of their cycle. 4:27, These kind of sci-fi entities being pairing with emotionally and mentally troubled humans is also reminiscent of something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, with the cast of that series being contrasted against the alien Angel’s featured in the series, otherworldly beings that, while mostly sentient beings, are largely motivated by a kind of instinct or programming to serve a larger purpose, having little to no concept of the kind of strife and turmoil the human characters are suffering from, the very same strife and turmoil that makes them, at times, vulnerable to the Angel’s, just as Hollow (whose species appears to be truly sapient and capable of not just thought or emotion, but also vices like greed, jealousy and spite) exploits Kamen’s shame and grief to manipulate him. 10:37, Even the scene of Kamen being absorbed by Hollow, figuratively and literally consumed by despair, is reminiscent of a Shinji, a similarly depressed and cowardly character, being absorbed by the Angel Lilith along with the rest of humanity to escape his strife.
You could write a whole essay about Kamen/Camen, or Levi. The writers for the show should be proud that they made so many interesting characters, even the ones introduced later

Ever since I watched the show for the first time I keep thinking about that one scene in the wall with the flower, and the little guy in the flower. Thank you for this video. I’ve been head over heels for this series since ever since it premiered last year, and the way it has languished in relative obscurity has been absolutely breaking my heart. This show deserves to be seen, and anyone who loves well-crafted, emotionally rich storytelling (to say nothing of stunning visuals) deserves to see it.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SCAVENGER REIGN. Found it the other day and watched the entire season in 1 night. It was almost addicting how the creators actually understood just how complex emotions can be.
I watched this show as it was coming out, I just stumbled across it and I’m so glad I did. It’s been a good bit since the finale aired but I can’t get the images from this show out of my head, the life montage shown by the robot, Sam’s final resting place, that one guy getting absolutely mangled by the plant, those water monkeys that threw their tails like lassos and pulled themselves toward you, it is so endlessly creative and innovative.
I ADORE the aesthetic of this show after watching episode 1. The visual world building we are presented is something i could spend hours theorizing about and it feel so rich and textured. The scene where they went to get the battery and we see the mushrooms are growing out of the the remains of that pod's survivor I wish the Red Rising series could someday be animated and look half this good.
I just heard about this show randomly when UA-cam recommended a video about the "teaser" for this show's second season. I was blown away with how bizarre that video was that I had to watch the original "Scavengers" video from 5 years ago. And I was mesmerized with how strange and unpredictable and amazing it was! Now I am watching this video and next I will have to sign up for Netflix again just to watch the series! This is one of the most most creative and unique shows I have ever seen, and I barely started watching it!
Saw the first like 30 seconds of the video (pretty much just to see where to watch it) then went and immediately binged it. Thank you for putting me on to this one of a kind experience Johnny 🙏🏽
This show was so excellent. I didn't realize it had been cancelled. Or maybe i did but I forgot. That just stinks. It could end with season 1, but I wanted to see what the show was setting up for season 2.
This video probably didn’t perform well enough for you to do individual character videos, but I still hope you do. I’ve really been enjoying Scavengers Reign and would love some more UA-cam videos on it
Make as many deep dive videos on Scavenger's Reign as you'd like to draw as many eyes to it as you possibly can! Scavenger's Reign and Pantheon (discovered it from your video) imo would be generation defining shows if they came out in the early or pre-streaming era.
Just went and watched the first three episodes on your recommendation and this series is already blowing me away. I’m invested in the characters, the world and the functional detail of it all is intriguing, and it’s all gorgeous to look at. Brilliant show, thanks for the recommendation, I’m going to watch the rest of your vid once I’m caught up. Cheers.
Thank you for shining light on it. Upon watching I told every one who'd listen that this is the next hidden gem. Great on do many levels, it'd take hours to even briefly explain. One of my favorites on top of what was said in the video is the fundamental difference between Sam's and Ursula's outlook on the planet as in colonization (Sam) vs symbiosis (Urszula) and how it drives the character conflict and the overal message of the show etc. It is a criminally underrated peak sci-fi of our era.
A friend had recommended this show and if receiving your stamp of approval was all I needed. Binged the entire series over the weekend. Even though I’m not really into the sci-fi genre, I do love animation and I’ve never seen anything like this. Really hope the team gets another season
It's always unfortunate when an amazing show ends up on a streaming service that doesn't promote it. Like how it was with Summertime Rendering on Hulu!
I've seen this show, just saw it out of the blue I love it I really hope Netflix markets it more, I loved the show the ending may be hinting at some kind of zombie plant cult thingy I really wonder what will happen if they choose to continue.
I stopped your video after the non-spoiler part of your video, and watched the show. I was absolutely blown away - this is the coolest showing of alien life I've ever seen! Glad I can watch the rest of this video now
Ive watched this show so many time already... and ill do it again lol i find it amazing how i still find new things, a little creature crawling arpund, a character reaction clicking a little better. Its incredible. On a side note, Sam's death, that entire scene just destroys me every time. He always though he would die alone, but he wasnt. That little spider crawling on his hand, the sky bright and hopeful. Gets me everytime.
I'm holding my heart for Netflix to roll out the show further across the globe. I'm in The Netherlands and ever since the show was announced last year I checked online to see if I finally had a reason to subscribe to HBO Max. But it never got released here.
I can't stop seeing parallels of scavengers reign and made in abyss the creatures, the environment, and the structures are so similar and have such beautiful scenery
After Pantheon (an animated show that's beautiful in a different way) gave me an existential crisis, finding and watching Scavenger's Reign is what soothed me. It's funny. I did watch a minute of the first episode at first and was like "okay, so it's like the Expanse but animated" then stopped because I never finished the Expanse. But then, a random clip of the show got recommended to me on UA-cam (the floofball monster encounter) that so captivated me that I knew I had to watch the show.
The amount of videos asking to watch this show just reveals how rare it is to have good animated stuff to be continued without cancellation from some stupid studio
One of the greatest pieces of animation cinema I’ve ever seen, an immensely well thought out world with a horrifying but satisfying biosphere and a convincing struggle to stay alive in a world where you know nothing at all and everything is learned by survival as in real life. I really hope there’s another season.
Please do individual videos analyzing the characters, that'd be awesome! I'd absolutely love a video on Levi, she is one of the best renditions of ''robot becoming sentient'' in the entire sci-fi genre
11:10 Also with kamens relationship with the frog, I think it’s worth pointing out how he corrupted it too, in a way. The frogs species is meant to simply control tiny bug creatures to give them little berries and other vegetarian foods, but kamen , seeking approval and an way to feel validated and powerful, starts killing animals which eventually snowballs into him literally murderering another one of the frogs species. Kamens greed and insecurities basically corrupt into something it was never meant to be in the end, it’s species was never meant to control something that complex and flawed and it was never meant to be that bloodthirsty and big. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense it’s like 2 am
I've been meaning to watch this and this is the sign I needed to go watch it. Especially after your Fired On Mars reccomendation, I trust your reviews!
It was on my watchlist on Max and then I watched it on Netflix after seeing your recommendation. 100% agree on this being a great show. I’ll be recommending it to several people so we can get those future seasons. This is such a special show and it deserves more attention and love!

Just finished watching it, some of the most creative worldbuilding, animation and great writing I've seen. It would be a shame if it didn't get renewed for another season

I am so ready to be reeled in.
The ending was such a tease, I hope we get more. It was a great show every episode fantastic
It is a great series. I'm thrilled that you reviewed the show. I was amazed that it didn't seem to be getting that much attention. I will definetly see it again now that it has moved to Netflix.
So glad someone else is talking about this show!! It's so good
So glad someone FINALLY said this louder
Just binged it. Honestly peak. Not enough shows are like this.
The scene where they went to get the battery and we see the mushrooms are growing out of the the remains of that pod's survivor
I wish the Red Rising series could someday be animated and look half this good.
There is a scene twords the end that I have seen every time I close my eyes and imagine since I am aware of . This show was beautiful.
Holy crap! Show is incredible! Thanks for this post. I would not have known about it without you!
THIS SHOW RULES!
I'm#1
And yeah you were right this show is F!CKING AMAZING.
This show fucking slaps I love it. Recommended to lots of ppl
This and Jeremie Perin’s MARS EXPRESS have been some of the best animation sci-fi I’ve seen in a long while
This show was so excellent.
It's not even available in other countries
I've seen this show, just saw it out of the blue I love it I really hope Netflix markets it more, I loved the show the ending may be hinting at some kind of zombie plant cult thingy I really wonder what will happen if they choose to continue.
I stopped your video after the non-spoiler part of your video, and watched the show. I was absolutely blown away - this is the coolest showing of alien life I've ever seen! Glad I can watch the rest of this video now
I already added it to my library, gonna start watching today. Thanks for letting us know.
Gets me everytime.
dude i am in love with this show only on episode3 and it is so good
I'm holding my heart for Netflix to roll out the show further across the globe.
I want more seasons so badly thank you for making a video on this show!!!
Saw a clip, saw the title of this video, was sold. Watching it rn, phenomenal series.
Thnks for talking about this show I loved it
The amount of videos asking to watch this show just reveals how rare it is to have good animated stuff to be continued without cancellation from some stupid studio
So when you dropped this video I just saw the title and took your word for it. Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.
This shit was a fever dream that I would happily experience a few times a year
Yes, please make more content on Scavengers Reign! That show is a masterpeice and so are your vids so I'd 100% watch!
Thank you for doing your part to shine a light on this amazing show.
Thanks for the recommendation Johnny. Just finished watching the show and yeah, it’s absolutely terrific. Need a season 2 asap.
fell in love with this when it came out was surprised not many youtubers picked it up at the time, such a new refreshing take on things.
man i've been waiting for you to talk about this show! Please make more videos about it! this show is incredible!
Saw it when it came out, surprised no one was really talking about it.
A million times yes, we need some character focus videos for scavengers reign. It's just too good.
I would LOVE to see a follow up video on this, thank you for helping to give this show attention
Adored this show. Amazing. I’d love to see your take on Fired On Mars!
here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/Kx1zYsA9tDU/v-deo.html
One of the greatest pieces of animation cinema I’ve ever seen, an immensely well thought out world with a horrifying but satisfying biosphere and a convincing struggle to stay alive in a world where you know nothing at all and everything is learned by survival as in real life.
I really hope there’s another season.
come on Season 2 !!!!
Fantastic video timing I just finished the series yesterday after a friend recommended it to me arbitrarily
Apparently, Kamen's creepy frog-like alien has a name, even if it's never spoken in the actual show. Hollow.
YES YES YES SO GLAD YOU MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT
Please do individual videos analyzing the characters, that'd be awesome!
You're good, it tracks 👍
I've been meaning to watch this and this is the sign I needed to go watch it. Especially after your Fired On Mars reccomendation, I trust your reviews!
RIP Scavengers Reign
It was on my watchlist on Max and then I watched it on Netflix after seeing your recommendation. 100% agree on this being a great show. I’ll be recommending it to several people so we can get those future seasons.
This is such a special show and it deserves more attention and love!
Scavengers Reign is absolutely excellent, one of the best series of last year, and I sincerely hope that Netflix will give it another season. I unfortunately was all too aware that Max wasn’t going to do it, so this shift was actually welcome. Definitely going to rewatch it.
Also: yes please on the character and story breakdowns. Would love to go further down this rabbit hole.
I watched this show on max and it was the best show I watched last year hands down. I will gladly watch it however many times it takes to get even one more season of this incredible show.
LOVEEE this show!! I’m so incredibly excited that you like it too. Please please please talk my ear off about it with more vids!!
The title of this video is basically exactly what I´ve been sending to my friends and family. This show is the definition of phenomenal. My god, the creativity behind this show is just stunning.
Yesss! Thank you so much for talking about this! I NEED this show to continue! I need adult animation to break free from the chains of Family Guy clones
This looks so cool and creative!
Remind me the movie "Annihilation" a little mixed with weird creepy Japanese manga and I love it 😁
Please make some more episodes of this show! It’s so good and I love your video so thank you for recommending it so I can see what you have to say about the characters. Btw I watched the show because of your video! Thank you 🤟
I begged so many people to watch Scavenger's Reign when it came out but it's a very difficult show to explain, especially without spoilers. Nice work with this vid Johnny
Just finished watching it, some of the most creative worldbuilding, animation and great writing I've seen. It would be a shame if it didn't get renewed for another season
Honestly, over the past 4 to 5 years, adult animation has become my favorite go to genre. they have no limits and the creators willingness to push the envelope has been very very satisfying over the past few years. with that being said, scavengers reign is up there w xmen97 as top of the line animation. what a time to be alive!
