American Dad's Most DEPRAVED Character?

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- When you’re the leader of the Central Intelligence Agency, a group that’s responsible for the country’s safety and protection, you need to be smart, diligent, able to delegate, and most importantly, level-headed…Avery Bullock doesn’t exactly tick all of these boxes, and yet, in American Dad, his position is Deputy Director of the CIA. With the fate of the country in his immature, lustful, jealous, spendthrift, and let’s be honest, drug-ridden hands, it’s a miracle there’s still a USA for Stan to sing good morning to every single day. Not to mention his subdued obsession with catching aliens, specifically Roger, who has evaded him on a few occasions. But maybe I’m over exaggerating, I mean he can’t really be that bad, right?...well, strap yourselves in for this one, folks, and join me as we take a look at Avery Bullock, all Stewart, no Stalwart.

A character whose entire schtick is "Sir Patrick Stewart saying things you would never expect Sir Patrick Stewart to say".
in a way, he is also this show's Mayor West. both of them are older men with dementia who do random wild silly things all the time
I'm sorry, but the principal Lewis character is unhinged. It's a toss-up between the two of them to me.
I FOUND YOU
@djhinton79 Lewis is definitely worse
@@djhinton79 The whole show is fucking hingeless, de-hinged & hinge-free
I always see Bullock as American Dad's Adam West, cause they're both two of most recognizable and beloved actors who took the roles of voicing derange, unhinged characters who own brand of wackiness make them fan favorites.
That's a very keen observation and I have to completely concur! Both characters even briefly (weirdly) dated the main character's eighteen-year-old daughter, coincidentally.
Also both were in positions of power that they definitely don’t seem qualified to be in
i always thought that, kudos for writting it first😄
Best part is you can tell Adam West(rest his soul) and Patrick Stewart are having a blast in these roles. At first it kinda feels like Seth getting his childhood heroes on his show just cause but after a bit you can tell ther was something there that kept them around
@@benderbendingrodriguez420 I can't remember where I read this, but I think Patrick Stewart oncd actually said that this is his favourite current role or something like that, based on how unhinged and fun the character is. But don't quote me on that.
The fact I can watch American dad all through my teen years with my grandma because she loves Patrick stewart makes this so special to me
lol what did she think of all of the absolutely crazy, unhinged things he would say on the show
I love that! Glad this show can be so special for you and your grandma!
Gave me a big smile reading that. ❤
this is so adorable i wish my family members/friends watched American Dad
Dune fans Love the part he played in that movie(with sting)
"This isn't one of those times." Is such a killer line.
Finger-Lenting-Good is easily one of my favourite episodes. I'm convinced that Sir Patrick is having a complete ball playing someone so insanely unhinged.
Sir Patrick Stewart is one of those actors in a league of Tim Curry or Mark Hamill. He's such a good actor because he doesn't take himself seriously so he doesn't view any role as beneath him.
@@CollinMcLean That's the thing though, he definitely did. There's a part in this video that talks about how he thought Sci-Fi was beneath him in the past. That just makes it all the more funny that he suddenly decided to start playing a character this crazy.
@@JordanWayneBrooks Oh I'm fully aware, he used to be much more uptight about it by his own admission. But later in his career he decided to have fun with it.
Like being the poop emoji.
you defiantly need to make more American dad episodes , I think American dad is a little more underrated compared to its counter parts and deserves some more love
100% agree. In retrospect, American Dad is WAY better than Family Guy. It's like Simpsons and Futurama. One is mainstream and beloved and the other is more niche but arguably the better series.
Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites is another that comes to mind. Idk, maybe that's just my personal opinion, I feel like the spin offs are usually higher quality.
@@sevnrin4134 I love American Dad because there isn't a defined falloff in quality like the Simpsons or Family Guy, it's just through and through good with some duds in between. Although that season with 3 episodes was not amazing.
It's genuinely my favorite show and I hate how it gets mistaken for a watered down Family Guy
@@onionbubs386 To be fair, it was created to be the fallback protocol should Family Guy be cancelled indefinitely, and it was that... Until Family Guy got revived and never looked back. So American Dad occupy this weird space in limbo where its purpose is no longer relevant but cancelling it is not an option...
@@errcncl6877 Only other long running animated comedy I can think of like that is King of the Hill (and even with KoTH you do notice the really standout episodes get rarer as the show goes on), American Dad truly does not get enough credit for that.
American Dad has such a strange relationship with lore consistency.
Please don't use terms like "lore" or "canon" when regarding a silly animated sitcom. It's just silly characters doing insane funny things, that's it. Continuity only matters when they want it to for the plot or jokes. Just accept it on those terms because it's about being funny, not some epic story
@nohbuddy1 lore, Canon.
It is very inconsistent in general.
In some episodes Stan is unbeatable in a fist fight and in other episodes he is a wimp.
While there is continuity between some episodes, there is no expectable consistency between all of them.
@@manunova5929 That's what I mean, like it would be fine for it to have no consistency but the things they decide to reference back to are so funny and interesting.
Fr, Roger’s got like 4 diff backstories so far
I cannot tell you how much I wanna see an episode of Roger, Principal Lewis and Avery Bullock joining up and just getting into trouble. Just starting an absolute shitstorm of chaos!
The plot could literally be about anything! I don't care! It will end in havoc either way and I want to see it happen when it does!
Dragging Jeff along unwillingly
Those are literally the worst people you could ever put together and I would love to see it.
Mhh like a suicide quad parody? xD
We almost got this with the episode where Roger, Lewis and Jeff went skiing in Vermont. I can't remember if Bullock was in that episode or not
@@BobtheExile
I actually didnt like that episode because everybody was acting ooc for the sake of the skit. I want the real deal.
I love that Sir Patrick Stewart is arguably one of the most defined “actors” of our time but he also isn’t so full of himself because of it that he’s still okay with play Bullock, who is exactly him but just ridiculous. I honestly think he’s interesting in what shenanigans Bullock is getting into every week
Stan Smith's relationship to Avery Bullock might actually be worse than Hank Hill's relationship with Buck Strickland, and Buck framed Hank for the murder of Debbie Grund.
What about Homer and Mr Burns?
The problem with that is that Mr burns is terrible to everyone not just homer and homer doesn't idolize mr burns like the other two idolize their bosses hank worships buck like a god and stan is constantly chasing bullocks approval @@rainspectre3153
I'd say a better option would be Micheal Scott lol @@rainspectre3153
@@rainspectre3153 At least Homer knows Burns is evil...most of the time
@@rainspectre3153 honestly homers to dumb to care and burns is to evil to care about homer lol
Sir Patrick Stewart is a treasure. That's one of the things I love about MacFarlane shows, the celebrity semi-regulars. Like Adam West and Sam Elliot on Family Guy or David Lynch on The Cleveland Show (which is an even crazier casting choice than Stewart)
It's really Principal Lewis then everyone else.
He even took a duece on his bosses desk and he can't go back.
He also was a drug lord and possible child trafficker
Agreed.
Kid Bullock having the cul de sac hair is hilarious 😂
The Jean-Luc Picard!😜
I don’t know, I think it’s a three way tie between Bullock, principal Lewis, and, of course, Roger.
*A new challenge has entered Johnny's catalog!* : WELCOME AMERICAN DAD!
I was watching American Dad before Star Trek. So when I watched TNG for the first time, I was all "Hey, that's Bullock from American Dad!"
That makes me want to throw up
Stan: What about that Indian Baby you have sometimes
Avery: This isn’t one of those times
Me: And that’s a good reason to mention why ______ isn’t in a episode
Steve: Oh, and you have a brother, too, right?
Stan: When it's convenient, yes.
@ Stan: On how about you haven’t dated anyone since well who was the last person you dated
You know I never realized the comedy gold of a character not knowing anything about the famous pieces of media their famous voice actor is well known for actually is until you pointed it out
We need an episode on Principal Brian Louis he puts the pal in principal and the edge in educator, though his role is mostly administrative.
Johnny2Chellos covering American Dad?!
I was literally just thinking of if he's done a non-podcast video.
Knowing Bullock's depravity; the episode where the code to activate Haley "I'm getting sick of these orgies" makes a lot more sense.
😂😂
Actually it's "I'm getting fed up with this orgasm!"
Deactivate her now smith
What I love about Bullock is that he’s not only the representative of America’s government in the series, but he’s the answer as to why Langley Falls is the way it is. He’s so chaotic, so depraved, so misogynistic, and yet he’s in charge of the CIA and it’s not by accident, it’s by design. He’s what the system produces, his behavior reflects on the city the CIA resides in, and that’s why despite it all Stan and the other agents will respect and lick his boots. They love America, and in Stan’s case America is what took the role of his father when he was abandoned. So it’s no wonder Bullock is Stan’s surrogate father figure in most episodes, and his behavior is what clashes with Stan’s love for his family and them pushing Stan from a conservative to more liberal viewpoints as the series progresses.
I think that’s why Sir Patrick Stewart loves playing this character, Bullock’s wackiness serves as a reminder of what the CIA is and how they are responsible for so many atrocities in the world, yet also going against the norm by playing them up as the kindergarteners they are despite their competence and stronghold over world politics.
It’s also why I think American Dad works so well, by being as unabashedly wacky as Bullock, it feels the most like a true depiction of the beautiful insanity that is living in America. A critique on America’s nationalism while celebrating the mix of cultures, genders, and sexualities that explains why despite all the trauma the Smith family has seen, they’d canonically sing good morning USA at the start of every day.
Well said...lol did not expect to hear such concise insight on a Seth McFarlane character/show today- thankyou!!😂😂💖
Always wild how MacFarlane shows had the ability to get random celebrities for reoccurring roles. Family Guy had Adam West, Cleveland Show had David Lynch, American Dad still has Patrick Stewart.
Ok, you've convinced me, I'll watch American Dad
The earlier seasons are slow but then it gets good and stays good.
@@EliTried One of the good episodes of the early seasons was the Golden sh*t arc
could you do a character analysis on calculon?
I feel like he’s deserving of his own character analysis as he’s a ton of character for a side character and who can forget the dramatic-
pause.
I've been considering it! Futurama videos haven't been doing very well recently but I think it would be a fun one
AMERICAN DAD CONTENT?!!! I've been asking for 2 years 😭
I have the day off too, this a is a good ass day
Ive come here to show you some love for the blooms video ❤️
Hey thanks so much! Really appreciate that!
@Johnny2Cellos it's only because you recognize he's better
Ive literally been on an American Dad binge for several weeks now, then this video drops,Amazing lol
A video on American dad, let alone avery, was not on my bingo board. But im here for it💯
Didn't even realize this is your first American Das video, def need more! Also Dan is indeed the man, love his stuff
Bullock, Strickland, and Mr Burns should have a contest on who's the worst boss in adult animation
Strickland to me, framing someone who sees like him like a father is hard to top, Mr.Burns is more or less senile at times and Bullock is more of a random nut job than straight out a bad boss.
TBH, I've never really been surprised that Bullock got so crazy and depraved and Sir Patrick always seemed ok with it. The man is a very good and classically trained Shakespearean actor. He was trained to make 400 dirty jokes sound like true poetry and high art. He's really just doing something similar with Bullock lol
Thank you for covering American Dad!. Idk but I think it gets slept on over family guy/ Simpsons
Absolutely wild that this is your first American dad video, I've loved the show for so long - it's great to see!
It will forever blow my mind that they were able to get Patrick on board and so open to it. Love it!
One of the funniest characters out right now the way he is written is just comedy gold
18:12 Fun Fact: "Little Girls" by Oingo Boingo (the song Bullock is singing) came out in 1981 and has a music video (remember those?) which also includes a very young Peter Dinklage and is described by Wikipedia as a video that "depicts Danny Elfman in an empty house dancing with girls and people with dwarfism."
I mean, how could I NOT share that, considering the topic?! 😂
Thanks for clearing that up , i was seriously concerned about that becuase he didnt wanna do that other under age joke
Having Patrick Stewart as Bullock is truly the best casting in American dad!! Also.. written by Dan the Man?!? Omg such an incredible intro for you to come into American dad haha, now tell him were waiting for that series review 👀 joking of course Dan can take as long, ill just be patiently waiting still lol 🙃
I never even stopped to think about how an englishman was running the cia lol
IM SO HAPPY YOU IPLOADED THIS
22:26 With how you describe him, it almost seems like he’s a total opposite. If I was an actor, and was told I could play the complete opposite version of myself… I would be THRILLED. That sounds hilarious lmao
00:30 what are you talking about? You just described the average political leader. lol
Son of the current president?
I never hear anyone talking about how whenever Patrick Stewart voiced himself on Family Guy, they just used Avery’s character model. Or maybe the Family Guy model came first and American Dad just used the same one.
Which leads me to believe that they either wanted Avery to look and sound as much like Patrick Stewart as possible so his depravity would hit much harder, or in the American Dad universe, Patrick Stewart runs the CIA under a fake name.
This Man is so Dangerous and Lustful that it makes Stan of all People look, Tame, Sane, and Stable.
😂😂
We dont talk enough about Johnny's thumbnails. This one is perfect.
I am convinced that a fair amount of Bullock's script is actually just Sir Patrick Steward going 100% Lawful Chaos and having the time of his life with the role.
20:05 This scene is my favorite Bullock moment in the whole series😂😂
I actually dreamt of Johnny talking about American Dad some days ago
"you sold babys to underground dinner clubs"
"That was pillow talk!"
I love American Dad!!! My all time favorite show. Would love more videos on it!
Love the American Dad content ( keep it coming ! ) Bullock is a great start to this series !
Might be my favourite character in the show. Bullock manages to make me laugh almost every moment he’s on screen
Hope we have Patrick Steward for at least another 10 seasons
I was fine through most of this up until the part Bullock sends Stan to the quiet area and stops him from taking a milk carton. I don't know why but that made me burst out laughing
Grateful to finally have some AD love on this channel. Keep it up!
Jonny… PLEASE make more American dad content. Genuinely makes me mad nobody covers this underated ass legend of a show
He’s the Adam west of American dad
Hilarious to learn that “Avery Jr.” is technically “Avery Jr. Jr.”
More of this please 🙏
I was discussing American Dad with a friend once, and I pointed out that Sir Patrick Stewart was Bullock's voice actor. My friend had never realized this before, and when I said that, he laughed and said "Oh my God, is he bored?"
And now that's all I think about whenever I think of him.
1:32 funny enough,Stewart actually has been bald since he was very young. Started when he was a kid and was completely bald by 19
This shit has me in tears
Probably the most fun Patrick Stewart has had with a role
from what I understand, the basis for Bullock's insanity comes down to "what kind of wild shit can we get Captain Picard to say"
It's a shame he never got to interact with Mayor West.
Bravo Johnny!!
Never expected an insightful American Dad video…
I love this unexpected switch… You should cover The Boondocks and/or Primal, if you ever find that up your alley…
I love all your content!! Always enjoyable, interesting, entertaining and VERY well thought out!!
I’ve loved alll your coverage especially on BoJack, Rick & Morty, King of the Hill etc…
Keep doing You bro!!🤘🤘
Patrick Stewart I feel likes to do Bullock because it lets him unleash and give his all in a manner different to his usual work. He probably sees the role as a challenge and enjoys that, plus honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if he is just a little unhinged, and always has been.
He had a fun bit part in Robin Hood Men in Tights btw. King Richard, he showed up at the end to "kiss the bride. As is my royal right."
I feel like he's the equivalent of Adam West for American dad
Please do more American Dad videos, it's my favorite show and you have the best takes on adult animation
Ricky Spanish: "Am I a joke to you?"
Loved it! Do Roger next!
"Enter Haylie"
Huh huh, oh he did.
He's my favorite character and relatable.
Oh my word, at 10:24 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Surely Bullock & Roger in for a tie??😂😂😂 7:29 shows they are birds of a feather
I missed this one! Bullock is hilarious and insane. But Principal Lewis has a run for his money in that department. Patrick Stewart has so much fun in this role for sure.
At this point, he's not even a guest character
I knew that ‘Sir Patrick Stewart’ does the voice of Bullock, but it’s still amazes me that an actor with such a high rank as Stewart does regular voice acting for a weekly animated show
This hurts my head but great vid
I can’t believe Patrick Stewart ever signed on to voice the Bullock role, lol. Whatever they offered him to get him to agree to do it was worth every penny.
i’m so happy you’re covering american dad!!
Love it!
Definitely more American Dad content.
Had a pleasure getting him to sign my star trek poster
Fourth best A.D. character, behind Roger, Lewis and Del Monico.
Nope. Principal Lewis.
One of the best written character in the show
Its so weird how Bullock is the worst of both ends of something. He is dedicated to his job to the point that lives are less important, yet couldnt care less about what goes on in the office. He cares so much about Stan being his bestie yet couldnt care less what happens to him.
Potentially best vid
9:10 me after eating taco bell 😂
12:22 What the Hell is up with the United States on the map? It's like it get thinner are you move out West. 🤣
You ever seen megs pictures of family guy in the intro? the original run of family guy muuuch worse
this felt so surreal watching you talk about American Dad.
one of my favorite AD characters
more american dad analysis videos please
24:39 I cannot wish to be more like this man in my existence...
Love the American dad vid!
This was an awesome first American Dad video from you. Avery Bullock is such a fascinating character. I love that Patrick Stewart has grown to let loose. Sometimes a little too loose considering he once voiced a 💩, but yeah his role as Avery Bullock is so funny. I'm pretty sure I've seen his character Avery Bullock more than I've seen him as professor xavier. But no I know for sure I've seen Captain Picard a lot more. I grew up in the 90s and I watched a lot of Star Trek at the time including TNG and decades later I binge all of TNG on Netflix when Netflix still had all of the Star Trek shows from decades ago
To me bullock just represents an average person slowly being corrupted by absolute power until he becomes this
American Dad is just sillier and more lighthearted than a lot of other adult cartoons out there. Makes for some easy viewing.
Insane as the Smiths and other AD characters are, somehow they're loveable. It's funny how American Dad ended up being less politically charged than most other Adult cartoons.
Crazy to think that Star Trek: TNG was 30-40 years ago and Patrick Stewart looks exactly the same. Then again I've seen black and white footage of Patrick Stewart looking exactly the same. I think they just built Hollywood around him.
Fab video, excited to see you cover American Dad, which is one my favorite underrated adult cartoons that got better as it broke away from Family Guy’s style.
I’d like to think McKellen managed to lighten him up over the years
Just on a side note, Sir Patrick Stewart has played two characters suffering from dementia-type diseases and nearing the end of life and he absolutely nails both of them. Professor X in Logan was heartbreaking and if we’re being honest, Bullock on the sub with the farewell montage was treated very seriously (if only to be used ironically for the reveal Dick was fucking with him.) all that to say, well done.
I just had a very funny experience where the clip where Bulloco explains why he likes Coco plays and then immediately got an ad where Sir Patrick Stewart very seriously asks for donations for the IRC, lmao
