I get emotional at parts that don’t even make a ton of logical sense to feel emotional about. Maybe the first show I’ve ever binged and started over again immediately afterwards.

I think western animation gets too much flack or stupid kids don't know what it has to offer and sensationalize Japanese animation too much. Even if Japan is the best, Miyazaki himself said one of his biggest inspirations for animation growing up was seeing the film The King and the Mocking Bird...great animation from France. Watership Down from England is one of the best animated films made too, in my opinion. Series like Avatar The Last Airbender, Samurai Jack, Primal (especially the first season) and plenty of other things are really up there. I'm not sure if we want to consider Eastern Europe Western or Eastern but they've made some great animation too.
It is a very interesting look at what an alien world would be like. The animal documentary style combined with the haunting music is what creates the biggest pert of the atmosphere of this anime. Although it's not a new style, there were other animated movies in the 80s and 90s that dealt with strange visuals but nothing on this scale.
There was a sci-fi CGI documentary about a probe exploring an alien planet that aired on Discovery Channel in the early 2000s. I think the artists got some inspiration from that, but they made a much more complex ecosystem in Scavenger's Reign.

Wow, only two-ish years to make this show. This just shows that you don't need a crazy budget and a gigantic studio of thousands of people to make quality art. I love this show and I desperately want to see more animation, games, movies and media in general to be made with this mentality. Fantastic work and I Hope you get to make a second season!

I fell in love with the emotion displayed through the animation instantly. It's so good.
Right, because the world is so insane, we can't really understand it at first watch. But the human response the characters exhibit, that's relatable to everyone.

Next to Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, this is hands down the best animated series in the last decade. Seriously mind blowingly beautiful

Animations these last few years are so incredible, it feels like a shift in creative output that's on a upward trajectory unlike anything I've ever seen before.
this is the best in the last decade. Completely original, perfect from the music, concepts and story. Genndy's Primal fell off slightly in the second season sadly

so uniquely fresh. it’s not often that something can live up to the namesake of alien, but it embodies it fully. masterfully animated, one of the best final products to come out in a long time.

I saw this show pop up on HBO Max as a recommendation. I had no premise or idea on what the show was about. I just jumped straight into the first episode to try it out, and it got me hooked. The show is breathtakingly good. I watched the entire season in three days during my breaks and after I put my kid to sleep. I loved every second of it. Everything from the creatures to the different plants, everything was exotic, even unique to how they all interact. I thought it was interesting how the people used some of the creatures and plants to get around. How some of them were parasitic or symbiotic with the humans. The show really got me to stay tuned in and kept my attention all the way through.
This was STUNNING, so grateful to everyone who worked on production

i remember seeing the short film called scavengers air on adult swim years ago and the fact i was able to live to see the day it has its own hbo full length show is quite actually amazing✨
Same here... and it's a rare occasion. With so much original material out there, it's shameful that most major studios choose to remake, reboot, and rehash so many tired tropes.
The setting of this show has to be the most unique alien environment I've ever seen. I feel like the planet ended up being my favorite character in a way. I was so intrigued and had no idea what to expect once a new element was introduced. Truly inspiring stuff!

I think the story is complete as it is.
@@bohemianprince7944 HBO cancelled it but Netflix bought it and could always pick it up for another season. If the writers have a plan or want to keep going I would welcome it warmly. Scavengers Reign is fascinating and bizarre in all the right ways and I would love to spend more time with the world and the characters but I don't want answers to anything now or ever. I welcome more questions to ponder and more mysteries to keep me up at night.
This show is amazing. You found a way to really make the most artful take in the space genre in ages. Love the art, love the storytelling, love the world you've made. It's so alive! Also just an incredible exposition in the beginning. Masterclass in not just animated storytelling, but storytelling as a whole.

Watched the first 3 episodes with a friend and it was so much fun! We really appreciated the visual aspect of the storytelling more than anything discovering a creature’s habits and function on the planet without any dialogue was very rewarding and breathtaking to watch. Can’t wait for more!

They talk about all of the influences, including Valley of the Wind, but no mention at all of Jean Giraud, better known as Moebius? Miyazaki was directly influenced by him while making Valley of the Wind, and the art style is directly taken from him. The Airtight Garage blew my mind as a teenager. I figured for sure when they started talking about not having any dialogue that he would rate a mention then, since one of his most famous works uses this technique, but I guess not? 🤔

No mention at all of Jean Giraud is just disgusting behavior from these people. Their show itself reflects these kind of bad tendencies.
How could they even think they could get away with this kind of behavior and nobody will find out? This is not good.
I immediately thought of Moebius, especially with landscape shots. I'm glad someone else also feels this way.

There is also a soviet animation called Vampires of Geona, which I think has its influence on the creators of SR. And especially the second part - Masters of Geona.
Just binged the series as well, and i was like hell yeah its moebius animated. And now watching this interview and its so weird they dont even mention him, even though they do mention so much other things. Maybe corporate said they couldnt or something.
This show was so overwhelmingly unique and creative, I seriously can't get enough of it and i hope it continues for years to come.

this show is taking the storytelling industry to a new level, everything about is alive and beautiful, the animators and writers did an amazing job expressing an out world experience with a sensitive and surrealistic approach.

My mind was blown away with the quality of world that was created. I loved the different creatures and how they moved and what they did. Everything is unexpected, you don't know what will do what. For one reason or the other this show reminds me of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind". I would love for this show to succeed and have more seasons to come. PS. Just finished watching the video and they even mentioned Nausicaa as something they were taking inspiration from. Woah :)
I described it to my friends as Nausicaa and Moebius' lovechild so I was happy to see that as well.

this show is like star trek on shrooms and from someone who goes absolutely FERAL over star trek that is extremely high praise. this is the best thing to come from western animation ive seen since whatever my previous favorite was because this show is so good i forgot what it was. i cant wait to see more

I like how the surviving crew members know how to live off the land to different degrees. Azi and Levi are a good example of mutualism, where different species work together to benefit each other. Sam & Ursula represent commensalism. They both rely on the local wildlife to get the job done without causing them much harm. Finally, Kamen and Hollow are a great example of parasitism. Hollow manipulates Kamen for its own survival at the expense of his sanity until the line between parasite and host becomes blurred
fantastic show. the alien ecosystem, wildlife and geology are incredible. I don't know how this ends, but I hope plans are already in place for season 2

Everything about this show is so deep and ethereal. Now I believe that if you went to an alien world, you could find yourself in the same struggles the characters went through.

Scavengers Reign and Pantheon have been two of the best sci-fi shows of all time, both recently realized as animated series with stories that would have been impossible (or at least impractical) to try as traditional non-animated works.
I really hope this shows that animation is an expressive medium for serious adult stories and opens the door to more fantastical series being created over the coming years.
Everything about this show is incredible. I love the story arcs, the universe, the soundtrack! I enjoyed the fact that we dont get to be told whay each creatures do or how this universe works, we just go along the characters, learning at the same time then them!
I loved the "small" moments. They were the most captivating. All of the characters grew on me, and I felt the stakes. I fell in love. The living world was given so much screen time, small creatures and big, and I feel like I haven't seen ecology and natural systems portrayed in such a way, with so much care and curiosity.

absolutely love this show. Not only the creative alien world, but also the theme on symbiosis and life. Levi's favorite character. The incarnation of Levi and how it develop full consciousness through the fungus of the white flower on this planet.

Incredible show so far
This show is genuinely one of the best things I've seen. I think what makes it so special is the emphasis on the alien ecosystem and storytelling drenched in wonder and melancholy. It wasn't overly depressing but didn't shy away from showing the cycle of life and the hardships of being stranded. I was legit crying in at the end of episode six (ifykyk). I love that the through-line of the show is that you need to respect, learn from, and adapt to the world around you if you hope to survive.

Watched Blue Eye Samurai and Scavengers Reign together. It is insane how beautiful, well-realised and excellently written both of these shows were. I liked Scavengers a smidge more than BES but both of them were so amazing! I hope we get more shows like these two outside of Japan on a consistent basis, with no compromises on the vision and what the team wants to achieve.

I really don't know how i came into this but i've just seen the first three episodes... and i didn't understand a thing. An enjoyed so much being amazed with new strange thing on each scene... not knowing what to expect... and being witness of such beautiful and incredible things without beeing able to fully understand them... what I love about this show is that there are no guns!!! humans are shown for what we are without tools: weak, barely able to defend ourselves through desperate struggles (and a knife or two when needed). This really puts the emphasis of power on NATURE and is a great choice for a sci fi show focused on an alien planet. Best western animated show I've seen 💜
Strange, did the creators mention Moebius, aka Jean Girard as the inspiration? It reminds me so much of his work.

A mature visually creative and stunning animated sci-fi show with an emphasis on visual storytelling, speculative biology and character development is what the world of animation needed for the longest time. I think I experienced the same emotions that I felt when I first watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds or saw Moebius’s drawings or concept art for Morrowind. The beauty of the strange and alien.
