    It took 3 years for a guy in our club to make it the whole day on our annual vintage ride on a raider. So many things to possibly go wrong. He finally threw everything at it and tore it completely down. The next year he finally pulled it off making it back under its own power. It hasn't been back on the trail since and that was probably 10 years ago. I think once he conquered it he was also sick of that thing.

      makes a great youtube video though, viewers love watching the successes, failures, and fixes of a long trip like that. It creates suspense, will they make it home before dark or some set deadline, etc etc.

      When I was a young boy, these 70’s sleds where new. I remember my dad saying “ ride for a day, and work on them for a week”. I haven’t owned sleds myself since the 90’s. My dads comments seemed to hold true. I think the new sleds are a lot better. But, as I’ve gotten older I don’t like the cold anymore. LOL

      Because after he got it running good, he realized that the thing just does not handle very good because you can't use your body to help make it turn because you're sitting on your ass. Need to use body english to help turn a snowmobile like a motorcycle.

    Vinny is literally like my ex supervisor at the mechanic shop I worked for. He was an ASE Gold certified mechanic and a legend. He would walk out in the shop and listen to the vehicle for a couple seconds and say ok do this and this and it'll be fixed. I would do it and it would be fixed. He kept all us apprenticing mechanics in constant aww.

      That is something I learnt to do (been awhile since I have done it tho so rather rusty) but it does come with experience, going by the sound the engine (moving parts are working perfectly fine) somit is either running too rich and bogging itself out ( he did point out fuel was coming out of the carb when not running) or like the part that failed it could be something to do with its drivetrain that is causing it to stall

      Reminds me of my older brother. I was doing the timing on my 70 Ford F100 (300ci straight 6) caps, points, plugs wires, and belts. I was so smart I even bought a timing light. He gave me a side glance and turned the distributor until his ear told him it was perfect.

    After watching quite a few of your You tube videos I have to say, Joe your skills as a mechanic are truly Impeccable! A lot of people don't realize that it really takes a lot of talent and experience to resurrect as well as maintain these older machines. The worst part is when you're chasing down parts that they no longer make! Trying to make replacement parts from scratch is a true art. Not many people can do that. Best of luck on getting the Raider fixed. It really is an awesome machine even though it can really try your patience sometimes. Keep up the good work on those videos!

    After you set the float with feeler gauge and assembled your carb you can check the needle valve blowoff pressure should take between 12 and 15 lb before the needle seat releases, need to get good gaskets for your chain case should have about a half a quart of oil in there to keep the chain lubricated it probably sit around for years and the oil drained away.

  • @mikejones420
    @mikejones420 Рік тому +4

    I wonder if you went through the fuel tank, and cleaned out the fuel lines from the tank to the carb, and actually cleaned the carb in an ultrasonic cleaner with all the jets out, if that would help solve your running issue, broken chain issue aside

  • @seansysig

    Check the tube that provides vacuum ie; fuel pulse. If it has cracks it will prevent the gas from pumping. The tensioner springs will be difficult to locate, you’ll be able to duplicate the bar.

    Try hitting the crank saft behind clutch with starting fluid while the engine is running and see if engine picks up in rpm. Could have a crank seal out. 2 strokes rely on a sealed crank case for fuel transfer throughout the engine

    Honestly that carburetor looks pretty dirty inside I take some Scotch-Brite clean up the inside the best I could make everything nice and shiny so the next time I took it apart if there's any debris in there I know it's dirty there was some sand in there so you probably got sand in small orifices just a thought and put an inline filter before the carburetor so anything in the tank will get caught by the filter hopefully you won't have that problem again
