  • This tutorial covers how to make PBR materials using image maps inside of LuxCore Renderer. It primarily uses the "Disney" PBR materials node and does not cover Glass, Metals, Volume or Lighting - those will be covered in separate tutorials.

Update: 2.5 BETA 1 appears to actually not resolve all the AMD GPU issues. Apparently the viewport had been set default to CPU with a different setting. I will be testing out some items to ensure amd users can use these newer builds.

Thanks for this man. I updated to Big Sur and suddenly Luxcore was throwing OpenCL errors. Hopefully this resolves that.

the issue is with amd but when luxcore adds vulkan it might be fixed and i expect/hope that that happens with 2.6

@@Bestman8 have the devs verified this? I saw one of the threads on GitHub where one of the lead devs marked the request as something they weren’t going to do. I would love if they went Vulkan...

Hey. I have a small issue with luxcore. On one of my scenes I have udims but every time I import them and switch it to udims I just get a "not supported source" error. (this isn't the exact message but it's close). Any fix? I know that other renderes like renderman you have to change the name of the texture in the software by removing the udim number (eg 1001) with to make it work. Is there something like that for luxcore? To be specific my scene is the lookdev scene

Hmm…. Good question. Not sure to the answer. Maybe check on the dev GitHub to get an answer from the developers on that one.

Thank for showing this material. I allways have in mind with LuxCore render is very laggy and slow. Now i must try that engine. Light, especially caustics looks amazing! How about with render time compere with cycles?
Oh and denosier from intel work well with this engine?

its not as responsive as Cycles is but its also not cutting a lot of corners so its slower.
Intels Open Image Denoiser can be turned on in the render settings or used in the compositor... it seems like its always worked well with Lux

Check out my render engine comparisons videos. They are a bit dated even though only a couple months old but should give you an idea.
Honestly, LuxCore is becoming my preferred engine. I find the responsiveness, speed and versatility to be quite amazing and the way it handles caustics and glass materials is easily a winner.

    Hi there-
Thanks a lot for taking your time and sharing your knowledge with us here on youtube, really appreciate your work!!
The introductionary Series is great for getting started with Luxcore. The only thing that's pushing me away from this render engine, is Shadow Terminator issues i believe.
When looking at a Cube with beveled edges from a glancing angle, there are these sharp "self Shadowing" black spots on the Edges of the cube. Especially when a Normal/Bump Map is Plugged in.
Is there a Workaround, or some method to minimize this effect?
The cube only starts looking "ok" after subdividing it to almost 10k Poligons, which is very very heavy, just to get rid of these black edges- Pretty sure you also came across this issue?

Not sure- jump on the discord though and we can look at it.

1:38 so basically, I can't see the geometry of my object unless I'm in render preview mode?
