My only question is how was there a CD in the CD tray, if the power was shorted from the factory?
It must be a situation where it worked fine for a couple of minutes, they put in a CD, then vibrations from the speakers rattling or CD spinning caused the blob of solder to fall over and short out.
Gaming consoles are cool and all, but please do more repairs of other devices - like this one! Great Video, great repair!
Totally agree, This was a brilliant video. I love it when fixers go after a variety of items, even better if a couple of youtubers do similar items as you get to see the differences in thought-processes
I wonder if I’m the only one who doesn’t understand a thing when Joey starts babbling about traces and coils and caps and shorts to ground etc etc, but still enjoys the heck out of his videos. Good job Joey 😃
Sometimes I follow, but would love to know more as he talks!
I’m right there with you. I have vague knowledge of the stuff and what they are but have no clue when it comes to board layouts or how to do any of these repairs. For some reason I still enjoy Joey’s videos.
The importance of a visual inspection
How did they get the CD in there when there was no power from factory
I was wondering that too
lol a few asked that... my only idea is that the solder blob was there & after the cd was put into the stereo, the stereo was then moved with the cd inside & the blob flipped over and shorted it
Please do more general electronics repairs
My face feels indeed.... welcomed back.
I think you should do more general repairs NOT because they are cool, but because they put a spin on your skills. This is training.
Haha good quality job from Panasonic there...... Nice catch mate!
Nice fix. Just a note diodes can breakdown both ways. Zener diodes for example. So bare that in mind
CHAAaaaaaaaTTTTTTTttttt!!!!
I'm starting to think, if your product is DOA brand new, and you're diagnosing it, best bet is to check for visual abnormalities before anything else
Brilliant, see the joy in you're face fixing something different away from PS5s
Resistors can´t go short... they value/resistance goes up if they die... another nice repair video... thx joey
On this type of board with this simple layout, you can get 2 scenarios:either this problem that you solved or something blew up like a capacitor or fuse
QC man, i remeber the days when japan HI-FI and quality worked hand in hand. HI_FI is dead now so is quality....sad times.
TIL always visually inspect the whole board before anything else!
Great fix, like your video's, what arm do you you have for your microscoop? I want to buy a arm but a.good one, thanks🎉
"Ferrite Burrito" makes it onto the funny list...lol. Nice fix!
Not bad at all! Guess someone did a bit of dodgy soldering at the factory and it bridged across, hence the short circuit.
That looks like a good stereo system - CD, Bluetooth and DAB+, plus an external aerial socket for the radio.
External aerial socket is always way better than a telescope or wire aerial because you can connect a roof aerial to it if you're in a weak signal area.
Joey it couldnt have been straight from factory with no power.... not unless you sneaked that Disk inside it before hand it would have had to have had power to get that in there...
Lol me and everyone else in the universe screaming at you that the screws are behind the speaker grills and to just pop them off... Sometimes I think Joey you just need to sit down and relax before you attempt repairs man. Just to clear your head
It must have worked at some stage (there's a CD in it) and the solder blob just moved slightly during use and shorted it.
Brilliant video. Suspense and success. I was wondering as the video was coming to an end if it was going to be a throw the towel in. But no. Smashed it.
How the heck that board were got thru from factory QA? Or is it optional today - just slap it together and ship it, nothing can go wrong - right? :D
There is something strange. If it never worked how comes that there was a CD in the Drive? That´s not possible if it never turned on. To insert a Disc it has to turn on to eject the Disc Tray to load a CD.
Sorry but you must be as I understand everything joey says. Or it could be that it I have a radio electronic degree.
i think someone lied to you joey.. how was it straight from factory and "never turned on" but yet had a disk in it? While I dont doubt for a second the issue came from factory, it was definitely on at some point for someone to put a disk in it
30 ohms on 12v line?! Never saw 30 ohms on 12v line
That is beyond strange. If that came from the factory like that, how the heck did someone load a CD into it? 🤔
Another great fix, Joey :)
Do more general repairs, please 🙏🏻
it must have worked from factory otherwise how did the disc get in there ?
but its fixed now nicely done joey
It couldn't have came from the factory shorted. How did the homemade CD get in there if that were true?
Must have been used if there’s a CD in there. I think those holes are speaker ports to give it a bit more boom like a subwoofer
Is there any profit to be made fixing that. Either way love the content 😊
I was waiting to see if when you open it under the casing it would have the warranty sticker intact ;)
I think what i've learn is that you should always do a good board inspection before working on the product 😅
Nice fix Joey! But, if it was straight from the factory then how was there a disc in it?
I've gotta know what the tracklist of the CD for Dad is
factory depositing extra free solder blob
That was crazy! It's funny how even straight from the factory, these issues occur!!! Great job!!
What's even crazier is that the factory put a "Just for you dad" CD in the radio.
> Are they Apple?!
Come on Joey, you know full well that many Apple devices are a lot easier to open than corresponding products of competitors. Do they use Software to marry components that shouldn't be married? Absolutely. But opening has always been awfully easy with visible screws and even pull tabs for glue.
I've had to engineer tools just to pull the battery from Macbook Pro's. In my experience, Easy open apple is the old stuff from Jobs era.
Did you send back the CD or at least ask them if they wanted it back?
🤔 how its possible to be out from factory with a cd-r inside the tray?
how could it have been from factory with a cd in it,!
Good old Panasonic QC department.
~3 months ago I got a job at a vintage hi-fi repair shop as a person with no experience in reapirs at all. I am very surprised to suddenly see you make a video about this and it's funny to see things that has confused me confuse you too like the dissasembly!!
(Yes as I said, I have no experience in repairs but I know how to solder and my boss is increadibly patient and teaches me stuff. I started out with mechanical repairs and simple board replacements but now I've started doing things more like in this video.)
That could be factory and it could be not completely connected. And the vibration of the speakers over time cause the solder to move till it connected. Cause it was working obviously when the person bought it or they would have returned it.
That’s a cool fix.
This is my theory. Also there was a disk in it so must have had power.
How did the CD get in there if it was no power from factory?
Good repair. You should do some retro consoles as well.
Yoepie .. something else than an ps5
Oh my god imagine that!
what a fix eh!
Never been used... Has a disc in the tray. 🤦
Love to see a Joey win after all those Ps5s!
Did you test a PS5 game on it? 🤣🤣🤣
Factory error when the board was flowed. Resistors don't short traces. Also, zener diodes read both ways. Great Repair and Video Joey! Thank You. 😀 P.S. Do you have a link or something, so a person can listen to your whole theme song Please? Thank You again.
Its been put into the discord ;)
@@highroyds I'm so old and dumb. Thank You.
Yah it came from factory with the cd
That was one epic fix 😊
I bought a Panasonic DB stereo last year for a tenner, like a flat blade with the most awesome front hatch opening for a CD that opens like a space dock door... bought it spares repair and all it needed was a new mains plug fuse... big result as its a pretty hench stereo I got a USB drive plugged into playing all my old stuff as I don't bother with modern music as its crap pretty much imho...
Well done Joey ... Will you be next Vince
18:20 Respect for leaving that part in. :D
Always remember to practice safe power-supplying, folks!
Joey, do you have a PO box?
Joey. If its from factory and not working always do a board inspection first.
This is an extremely common problem with factory boards. Bad soldering.
Carm down dear,....
So much fun, nice one JDT 😊
Great video 👍
Great Video!!!
The end of this video...the last thing you had to do...was so worth watching all the way through!!! Great seeing you working on other projects -- it's more exciting!
Let's go!
Love it :)
Very good find... but lesson learned: Full inspection of the board and components before you start removing stuff 😊
So cool!
Am I the only one that saw “Pansonic” in the thumbnail?😆
By the way, you did a great job giving it a second chance to life to that unit!!
Excellent video my friend!!
aaay I caught some of this livestream - nice to see the full background!
Got my JDT mug in the mail today. Thanks for the great content Joey!
Solder shrapnel heaven. Nice fix Joey
What? Not a PS5? Yay! I can watch a video again.
Greatt video. If it was faulty from new how it get a cd in it
Very cool you try some new stuff. A really Great fix!
Sometimes the eyes might be stronger than the soldering iron 😀
Love it when you different items❤
CHAT CHAT CHAT CHAT.... oh and chat chat chat .... but its also chat chat chat LMAO - Join the CHAT Discord lol
Thanks!
Incredibly kind of you, thank you. ☺️
How did it come with a CD in it if it was brand new never worked?!
THIS IS SO TRUE!
The only explanation I can think of is if there's a way to manually open the disc tray (like with a paperclip or something), a person could have slipped the disc inside... as a gift to their Dad, apparently.
Its possible the solder blob was there when it was tested & when the stereo was moved after the CD was put in the solder flipped around & caused the short.
Another win for Banana Joe(y). 😊
More of this, Joey! Good work bro :)
That was a good one joey. great job👏
Brilliant result!
Nice one joey 👍
YAY not a PS5 at last
