Whichever seller sold you these 4 consoles shouldn't be working on them. They mangled the HDMI circuit, the scratched up the southbridge, they put screws in the wrong places, they left liquid metal on the board, they installed a southbridge so poorly that the solder balls were all bridging but lacked the competency to tell so they attempted to flush it out anyway. What a bunch of clowns. Joey, you really need to name and shame these guys so we can get the word out and protect others from getting scammed. They literally sold 4 scrap consoles after taking parts from them and installing known faulty ones.
24:21 you should get those tweezers that have adjustable square tips, which allow you to grab even something as big as a CPU. I've a pair from the usual suspects, and they're really good at picking up complex chips.
Someone has literally used this motherboard/PS5 as for parts, taking what they need, putting back what they don't, then sold it on eBay as for parts only/no power. Really quite clever.
During wicking on the solder on the southbridge pads on the board, I noticed you removed a resistor with the solder wick right beside the crystal from 18:05 to 18:15. Might worth checking.
What flux do you use? Mine seems to smoke loads. I didn't see it on any of your pages in the desc. Love the series so far. I've learned quite a bit watching you and feel much better about following my electronics repair journey.
Nice video. Was the donor nor ic from a board with a 69GG? If it was from a 61GG, the data must be adapted. UART may give you a hint if the southbridge is defect.
Take a look at the NOR tool TheCod3r has made. I think his tool can not only be used to switch the SB-Type, but also is able to set the correct serial no and Mac adresses. If that tool can't do it, then may be I have seen ToltecMerc using a tool that can do it.
At 10:22 - I was really looking forward to seeing ya clean up those HDMI pads too lol, cleaned up beautifully at 11:37 gg! I was positive there was at least two pads missing or torn at least
I was going to point the missing resistor nearby southbridge but i see other’s already alerted. Judging by the fact is nearby that oscillator, it might be responsible for soutbridge clock… so you won’t get any power without a working southbridge. As for the second repair, you didn’t check if you have apu vcore. It’s been messed with so I assume that was the initial fault… gl!!
Since you use canned air Joey, put a hole in the last one you use and super glue a bike inner tube stem into it so you can pump up the can and reuse it.
If you find the wrong screws in the right places it could mean an amateur at work. I would consider that as a 50/50 chance for easy or the worst scenario. If they used granddad's soldering iron your lost but if they looked and backed of because of the complexity of the device you could end up with an easy repair. Like a buggered HDMI port. I love your positive approach and time spent on a already lost business case ;-) Best! Job
Hi joey I love your videos especially the profit or loss videos I'm just wondering if you sell xbox 1 disc drives I have the xbox 1 s just I still have the original disc drive motherboard
Can someone tell me what the long component at 23:17 is? Or even a part number/designator? I see comonents of this package style being used in appliance boards. I can't figure out what they are and even my above average google skills can't seem to find these anywhere. I just want to know what the package style is so I can maybe find what these are. Most common number I found was AKO stamped into the shell, but usually do not have a number lasered on otherwise.
Hello. As far as I know there is a difference which firmware is uploaded to BIOS chip. It depends on southbridge as well (61 or 69). If you got a BIOS chip from console with 69GG (preferably EDM-030/033) - its fine, but if it was from 61GG it potentially will not work I guess... Does it make sense to check the BIOS with this info?
There is also a way to use 61GG southbridge instead of 69GG. You just need to isolate 1 pad on the motherboard and patch a firmware, for example with BWE software, but costs overprice. So, better to get somewhere a right BIOS with right firmware instead.
Yay, it's minus! The trouble is, when the APU goes boom, it's just not worth doing anything. Hope you get a spare southbridge for the first console soon. Also, is it not worth trying to replace the APU, or is that just too complicated?
Yes, fill the motor up with "Alrightchuck" brand petrol, armed with oversize flat cap, black pudding and whippet and a passport to get thru the Watford gap... hehehehehehehehehehe
Oh man, I thought you had them both fixed. You'll get that first one, in a stream. I think, if you go back in the red, you Need to wear a bunny suit, for luck! Thank You. 😁
I enjoy fixing "broken" laptops and sometimes the faults are just stupid. Had an old Samsung laptop that refused to install windows 10. Turns out windows didn't like the wireless card, remove it and voilà!
Hi joey just wanted to ask I have a Xbox series x that does not power on anymore just will not powering on it does not beep on and then off just does not trun on. Just wanted to ask if you would be able to take a look and will pay for any parts required to fix. Just think it be a great video idea.
Great question, but unfortunately that doesn't happen. When I list the consoles on eBay, I give a rundown exactly of what I've done, which 9.9/10 makes them for parts only. Hence the listing goes down quite a bit as it takes away the "chance" to actually repair them like I buy them for. An example, I have a faulty PS5 listed at the moment for £139.99 and it's not selling.
Tell you what m8, steer clear of shitey Apple drek what a nightmare, bought a virgin NOS last of the iPad Air 2's which were made up until recently, wanting to use for having tech pdfs and manuals on plus to host my vast ebook library... I have abs no idea why people say they are the best etc... pile of 10 mile high shitey rubbish and boy do Apple want to dig deep into your pockets as well as just setting up a simple app that is free and does time checking on a watch, Apple is full on wanting bank card and details sort of thing... crap, crapper and crappest and a waste o' a purple one and just gonna buy a cheap Samsung tablet and give the iPad to someone in the family I really really hate.
What on earth do they expect to happen when years of ignoring our concerns falls on deaf ears, civil war is inevitable unless our government grows a pair and listens to what the working class want, women and children needs protecting and if he won’t do it we will
You took off a resistor on the bottom right when you were wicking the south bridge pads 👍🏻
Wow… what a great spot! Thanks 😅
18:09 I was about to write the same thing.

Ye that seller is interesting cuz its crazy

Your solder wick ate a resistor when wicking the southbridge pads.
Great spot!
Someone has literally used this motherboard/PS5 as for parts, taking what they need, putting back what they don't, then sold it on eBay as for parts only/no power. Really quite clever.
Yeah it's sad :(
Joey: " I'm not gonna turn this console on"
Proceeds to put power into the console :D
Lol Joey LOTR reference! Love it.

the 69GG naming must be intentional at this point 🤣
What's the downside to using ipa? Why do you use flux to clean rather than just putting alcohol on it?
Isn't the BIOS paired to the APU or the whole motherboard itself?
Nice video. Was the donor nor ic from a board with a 69GG? If it was from a 61GG, the data must be adapted. UART may give you a hint if the southbridge is defect.
Ooo that's interesting Steto! The BIOS was taken from a 61GG board I'm sure.

whats the big scrape on the south bridge
The first one was really beaten up.. the second one was just really bad luck I'd say.. poor Sally..

It is possible to edit the nor so you can put a 61gg Southbridge instead of a 69gg.
Since you use canned air Joey, put a hole in the last one you use and super glue a bike inner tube stem into it so you can pump up the can and reuse it.
Holdup what? You’re saying like use a bike pump to reinflate a tube of canned air?

Is it not possible to pull the APU from a donor board and put it on?
I'm not actually too sure! I'm certain there's other things you need to transfer over also, as well as the fact you need more equipment to do it!

Really good information to know. the BIOS I took is from a 020 I'm sure... so that could indeed be an issue!
I'm so glad my face is welcome once again :D
16:12, is there a component missing above the BIOS?
Do you have 1.8V though (first console)
You win some, you lose some. Keep getting after it

Missing component at 22:09
Most likely not too important but it doesnt help either ;)

What the hell did they do to make the hdmi disappear in to space did his dad pull it out because his son deleted his cod account 😂😂😂
Shouldn't you be able to sell the consoles for the same you bought for, less fees and postage? Why the big loss?
