For those who buy a bag bottom and are concerned about the number of pre-made holes not equating to the 70 stitches needed for the pattern, here's how you can still get those 70 stitches:
You introduce an increase stitch at a regular interval until you meet the 70 stitch requirement. An increase stitch is simply doing the same stitch twice in place of a single stitch.
So, if you purchased a bottom that has 60 holes, as is the case with mine and many of yours, you would need to add 8-9 increase stitches to the first row in this pattern.
That little help aside, I do adore this pattern! I learned a new stitch or two and it's just a super sweet pattern.
Thank you Mel. A few of us did mention in the comments a few days ago about adding a stitch in every 6th hole on the first round. However, I found a shop on Etsy that sells bottoms with 67 holes, and they are 2 inches longer and 1 inch wider than the 60 hole ones. I figure that 70 holes would be at least that big, and I was just worried that a bottom that much smaller could alter the shape or length of the backpack. Please let us all know how yours is coming along-----the shop I found is in Russia, and the cost of shipping and the time it takes to get here, is of course less reasonable. If 60 works, that's the way to go!

Hi Annoo and all of my fellow fiber artist and designers 🙂. I just wanted to say to the ladies that are having a hard time “sourcing” the bottom piece for the bag,just make it yourself !! Use a hole puncher, use sturdy piece of cardboard a ruler and a pen or pencil to mark out the spots for the holes.....easy peezzy! It’s much cheaper and definitely environmentally . I used cardboard because I wanted to see how well it would work out and it turned out awesome. Annoo thanks for another beautiful work of art and thanks for sharing with us. Your patterns are always easy to follow and to work through,if you occasionally make a tiny slip up that only small adjustments would fix the problem. I also wanted to say,you have such a sweet spirit and I hope you don’t ever get discouraged from some of the very mean and negative comments I’ve seen some people post because “THEY” don’t have the skill set needed to work with the beautiful patterns you so graciously share with us. Stay blessed Annoo and the beautiful crochet family you have amassed over your few short years on UA-cam! 😇🤭🤭
Honestly I just crochet a tight circle, took a bit of thinking(and math tbh) to make sure I ended on 80stitches around the outside exactly and then I don't need to hole pinch anything

too learned to knit at my Mother’s side as well as crochet. We knitted together and l loved it, but, as I grew older I could not stand the sound the needles made, so I switched to crochet. Just recently I decided I would pick a more pair of needles and pick up the skill again. So, I am looking forward to relearning this beautiful skill with you. My ultimate goal is to make a dress set. I’ve recently made several beautiful crocheted dresses and I would love to make several more in knit.

Just finished the bag portion of the project. Love it. I had to replay a few times but no worries. I have a vinyl base with 60 holes so I crocheted around the base then for the second round I added an extra crochet in every third base crochet stitch to come up with 80 total. Will have to find the rings to make the icords. Can't wait to find a lining fabric. Thanks for your creation!
Me too! I had to increase every 3rd stitch since I had purchased a 60-hole base

I am a new to crochet. I made this Backpack. It makes me look like I am accomplished at crochet. Very easy to follow, instructions. I used wooden circles instead of metal ones because I already had them on hand. Really, they were curtain hanger rings that I used to make Christmas tree ornaments with. I just removed the little hanging ring. Thanks so much for this pattern. I will make one for each of my sisters and and daughters. LOVE IT!

How long did you do the I cord
I am new to crocheting. I’ve tried years ago and was unsuccessful. So my very best friend crochets and is amazing. Quite frankly I got fed up with asking for small items like hats and a halter top of all things. I finally pushed myself and within the last month I’ve made a slouchy hat and a halter top!!!
