I never bought any, one of the pick ups before you get into the zone gives you like nine of them and the enemies also occasionally drop them... I also tend to get through the whole zone by the time I use 3-4 of them even when collecting all items. The whole zone could still have gone without the poison swamp thought and it would have played virtually the same, which to me signifies a bad game mechanic. If I never die to a mechanic and using an item I looted already anyway is all I have to do to bypass it then its more like a speed bump than an actual threat
I just can't wrap my head around crapping on the Undead Settlement. That area is incredible - it's so beautifully designed with the multiple paths and way it opens up and wraps around on itself, lots of secrets and NPCs to discover, smart enemy placement that's challenging but fair, the beautiful views to the other areas in the game... the *only* downside to the area is the optional boss. Honestly DS3 should have *started* at the Undead Settlement, giving you the option to backtrack to the High Wall of Lothric or push forward to the Cathedral or Farron Woods - it would have been a great starting area and given the game a much more non-linear feel from the start.
@@Galacalactus I like the spot because it teaches you a lot about the mechanics and different ways to approach the game. You're given ranged weapons at that point so you can pick some of the enemies off from the balcony. You can sneak around. You can fight the ones at the edges and draw them away from the crowd, and the ones closer to the fire won't aggro. But if you charge in swinging your sword, you're going to have a bad time.
@@MusicVersa I agree. With a big sword, you can run in and smash them all. I just remember it being kind of annoying on my 3rd playthrough, as a dex build with no ranged options.
You can run through the whole area pretty quickly. If one of the hollows swings at you you can just roll into him and it'll stagger him out of the attack.
I was honestly surprised that the Undead Settlement was ranked so low. Personally, I found it to be one of my favorite areas in the game due to its very non-linear design, consistent and appealing aesthetic, and tons of little nooks and crannies to explore and discover.
@@noweebatall5520 I know. That's what I did. I looked up, "how to beat the damn knight at undead settlement." He killed me more than the dancer of the boreal valley. The boss that gave me the most trouble so far.
Cathedral of the deep is 8/10 Cons - the begining of the area suck -worm blood effect -bad boss Pros - great atmosphere -intesting enemies -Has one of the best bonfire placements in the entire franshise!
Road of Sacrifices has more lore than "Aldrich took a dump here". It was the path his followers used to ferry kidnapped men to the cathedral for Aldrich to devour. Hence the name, Road of Sacrifices
Yea ds3 was my first souls game and this area didn't annoy me at all, I mean i enjoyed it actually. It was kinda hard but I felt it was fair to me, althought some of the areas were little annoying.
I’m going through Undead Settlement currently. I don’t see why you’d hate it. It’s a cool spooky area especially at the beginning, it provides a nice early game challenge, although yes the boss is dog shit.
i just beat the boss there and its my first play through. yes i know the boss is easy but still i died a lot of times not because i didnt know how to kill it. the problam was that he was doing his ass bump all the time so i could notreach the eggs.
I still dont know why people hate it, yes for multiple playthroughts this area isnt a run thru area, but in my opinion, the game isnt just about rushing through everything, but more of exploring it throughly The only place i think i collected all of the items but it was a hell was the faron keep. Swamps are stupid
I only disagree with the cathedral. In terms of actual level design, enemy variety and placements it's one of the best of the game. When The Ringed City came out everyone praised how it made DS1 style effective use of bonfires and shortcuts. Meanwhile the Cathedral is one of the biggest areas in the game, with a bunch of secrets and alternate ways to get around, and covenant aside it all works perfectly from a single bonfire. Couple that with its lore significance and I'd even go out on a limb and say it's my second or third favorite area in the base game behind the Grand Archive and maybe Lothric Castle.
I think it's really well designed too, but my bias for wanting to run through it and not smell the roses taints my opinion. Also I hate those little sorting hat dudes. Swiggity swooty is too strong
Yeah i was really surprised on my second playthrough how much i missed in that area and how there was an entirely separate path i could take to the boss. I think the boss is unfairly maligned though, i mean its not great but there have been far worse bosses in the series
Y’know I realized how much I enjoyed ds3 watching this video because even the most hated areas, I didn’t mind. I had a good time with all of the areas in at least one way or another.
I have a similar mind, there are only three areas that i really disliked: oceiros poison garden, profane capital (both because it felt like they could be more) and farros keep (because the slowing swamp) The rest i reslly enjoy them.
same, I loved Smouldering Lake/ Demon Ruins and Catacombs of Carthus. I feel like the reason why people hate some of these areas is because how difficult they are, it’s personally why I loved it.
Rick Logsdon right? The wire frame is imo one of the best, you get a patches encounter, I like the pontiff beast, and I find cathedral Knights and big hollows fun to fight. Not perfect (swampy bits and giants and boss suck) but it's still got a lot of good stuff too
In pure level design alone i feel like the Cathedral is the best, with how it's shortcuts are placed, and the desperate situation to find ANY bonfire upon trying to get into the cathedral, only to find an awesome shortcut that instantly gives you pure relief once you see it.
Cathedral has some amazing area design, but the enemies certainly are annoying. Rosario is a huge plus, and I love the way you navigate with pretty much a single bonfire. I mean, it is just one large building after all. Also, Road of Sacrafices has the farron skip, so I can't ever hate on it
Cathedral is the area that gives you most options in exploring it. You have a lot of shortcuts, secrets and challenges (mimic, spider, the crusaders, the giants who can give you shards for +4or+5 weapon before Watchers). If It had 3 Bosses instead of one people would praise how It interconects itself, since it reminds me of DS1 Undeadburg+Parish
TBH I was under the impression Cathedral of the deep was regarded more highly due to its intricate level design and the use of a single bonfire that you loop back on with shortcuts. I've always considered it as a top 5 area in the base game. Farron Keep is a guilty pleasure of mine, I acknowledge why the design is frustrating to so many but I love how it actually makes you explore the area to find objectives in order to unlock the path forward. Personally, exploring the areas is one of if not my favorite part of the souls games, and I typically go to pick up nearly every single item on every playthrough, even with the knowledge that the majority of them will never actually be useful to me depending on what build path I go for.
Totally agree with you on this. I don't care for running/rolling through poisonous muck, but the temptation it presents to explore it at personal risk in order to find treasures just gnaws at me, so I can agree with it being a guilty pleasure.
He was reading a comment, and proved him wrong by showing the crystal sage while reading it. That comment also said that road of sacrifices has only 1 bonfire which is also bs
He was totally doing it on purpouse, he also read"no screts" while showing the guy that teaches you magic (whom i missed in my first playthrough) @@wavestrider2160 is it though? How do you enter Irythil without the doll in the cathedral?
I loved the undead settlement, there was so much to explore and a lot of variety to it, surprised the profaned capital wasn't at the bottom, there is almost nothing there at all
Smouldering Lake is eh, but I also don't really care too much about the lore of Demons, so take that as you will (Demon King is a pretty cool boss tho). Undead Settlement definitely deserves to be higher, but I can see why some would dislike it, it's just kinda bland aesthetically compared to Undead Burg.
I hope when i reply to you, that he states when #11-1 is gonna come out. TELL US DeMod. And watching them on release is always a bad Idea. It lets you want to have the next part very desperatly XD
@@Gankstomper he's only missing out 'have' which isn't that important being as most everyone would not even consider he meant something other than what is obvious
It was such a knockoff of Hemwick Charnel Lane and it was such a long ass area for an area I didn't find enjoyable. Some of the enemies seemed overly difficult for an opening area too.
5:21 Hey, but you do get to watch 2 Darkwraiths slaughter these guys mercilessly before the Abyss Watchers boss fight. Sometimes the Darkwraiths even die and you get free loot.
the atmosphere is one of the best imo. the giants are easy enough to take down. honestly this area would be a 10/10 for me if it weren't for the mediocre boss.
To me, the beginning is by FAR the worst part, but once you get inside, it's a really good area. I absolutely LOVED the shortcuts in the Cleansing chapel, and the Cathedral knights are some of the most menacing standard enemies, in the base game at least. And I kinda liked the Deacons, but that might be since I play Dark Souls for the lore.
@LeadFaun now days it's much easier to me going through that but the area after the graves when first entering the cathedral was the most annoying shit ever it took me like 6 tries to get through it today though my least favourite area for sure is the smouldering lake (bullshit lake)
Andrej Scensny I don’t think the bosses should be part of the judgement for the area. Some of the best areas have bad to mediocre bosses like heides tower and undead burg/most good areas in ds1.
Undead settlement is one of the areas that made me fall in love with the game. It really made me feel the setting dark souls and actually frightened me to move forward at times. Love it!
I feels the same. I'm on my first playthrough after completing DS1 and DS2 which I both loved. I didn't like much the Wall of Lothric but the Undead Settlement made me start enjoying the game. I really enjoyed exploring it. I also liked Farron Keep, I don't really get why people don't like this area.
Road of sacrifices was my favorite. Loved finding secrets, loved the boss, loved the group fights and loved finding quicker routes for another try at the boss.
I always walk away with a weird feeling in my gut when people talk about areas in DS3 this sort of way, because I seem to like a lot of the things others really, really hate; or rather, a lot of the things I don't mind as much, other people think are game ruining levels of bad, such as the poison swamps, or the more "annoying" enemies like dogs and rats. I actually really like areas like the Undead Settlement, and the Cathedral was one of my favorite areas in my first playthrough. Beyond that, I also don't agree with just calling devs lazy, or careless, or whatever word people tend to use, for doing things like the untended graves or the hunter's workshop type areas, because I always end up seeing them less as gameplay areas, and more like storytelling areas. But my opinion may be just wholly disregarded, I actually find enjoyable qualities out of the Irithyll Dungeon, so yeah.
I feel the exact same way! A lot of people think the Dark Souls III areas are bad because of their depressingness (that's not a word but you get what I mean) when in reality I love how depressing and gloomy the areas are! Undead Settlement is a perfect example. I really liked that area, especially the beginning with the dog ambush and pilgrims near broken-down carriages, and I like how the whole area gives off this spooky distressing atmosphere. And it's quite exciting when you're running from 20 enemies and not looking back to see if they're chasing you because it might slow you down. I really like the game's areas!
Agree wholeheartedly on your thoughts. Yeah I got pissed at the poison swamp, or the Ghrus being kinda op for my level/skill, or the jailers draining your max health, but, in my opinion, it feels kinda childish to say an area is bad just because it frustrated you, or that is not executed well or whatever. Maybe I'm like you, I don't care to the point that I shit over an area I disliked; being frustrated with some level design doesn't necesseraly mean it was badly designed, from my point of view.
Yeah I agree, I am playing through DS2 again at the moment, and when you compare the level design it is night an day. Fromsoft really did well with DS3, which has very little in the way of low points in comparison to DS1 and DS2. I just wish DS3 had a more interconnected world.
I finally found someone who likes the Irithyll Dungeon. Every time I walk past this location, I just stop in place and think about the whole place. Below, where the giant stands, you can see Siegward and this is just one of a dozen such pleasant little things that make this location alive. This is not Anor Londo 2 from Ds3, which is just an open-air corridor.
Honestly, the Catacombs and Smouldering Lake are my two favorite areas. I love the dark atmosphere and that feeling of making my way through a forgotten crypt and stumbling upon an ancient, demon infested underground.
Smouldering Lake is also really good for the lore. Slowly piecing together that it's Izalith plus finding Quelana's body curled up next to (presumably) the Fair Lady was a pretty cool experience on a first/second playthrough.
Really like the carthus knights might just be though feel some of the more unique enemies get underused while certain ones that suck are way to over used. To many generic zombie things in this game, why does itrithyl have generic shitty zombies dk, they have knights and shit but oh well.
I'm pretty sure Irithyll will be at the top...while I think it would be deserved, I still can't forget THOSE GODDAMN DOGS on the staircase before the shortcut elevator...
FUCK IRITHYLL the enemies ruined it for me. ALL THE ENEMIES except the flame witches. FUCK THE DANCERS FUCK THE WIERD CENTEPEDE THIBGS IN THE WATER the dogos were actually fun to fight FUCK THE SKINY BITCHES. The only thugs I like about irithyl was pontiff the dogos and it looked nice everything else sucked AND FUCK THE TELEPORTING DOGS the silver knights were alright
Untended Graves is fucking dope. The lore is thought provoking and still difficult. The boss is awesome. The black Knights are fantastic. Not the best but super cool
I like how you visit different versions of firelink shrine three times Once at the beginning (normal firelink) Second in the mid to early late game (untended graves) And third in th endgame (kiln of the first flame)
I actually don’t understand how anyone can not put farron keep at the bottom (unless you’re counting the boss with it) I dont even mind poison swamps but this is actually a BAD poison swamp. Bland, ugly (not in a cool ugly way like blightown but ugly as in just grey and green water), cheap traps, really annoying enemies that you never see again, only item that I can even remember finding there is Greatsword. Only redeeming factors for me are AW and the Watchdog tower.
Gotta admit, I LOVED irithyll dungeon. It's level structure forced me to go back to my DS1 mentality of memorizing the layout, keeping an eye out for shortcuts and paying attention to enemy placement; something MOST of DS3 failed to make me do.
He's talking about how the whole game is a blanket made of dull grey shades. Practically the entirety of DS3 is very uniform, almost unanimously made of crumbling grey buildings, muddy gunk water and brown dirt. Very, very few areas break that trend.
Dregs Heap and Cathedrale of the Deep so low?? What is wrong with you People? Both These were astonishing atmosphere-wise and their Level design, especially that verticality in Dreg Heap was great! And the Angels are a Pretty cool enemy in my opinion, may they be annoying, but perfect representation of the lore and visually convincing. And that Grey tone...I don't get why People complain About it so damn much. What is Dark Souls 3 supposed to be other than the Fading final Hours of a world burned to ash? I know it may not be as visually pleasing as Areas from the other games, but thats exactly what it is supposed to be! And If you are understanding that, you can even find Beauty in all of this. Especially the sky in Dregs Heap...oh dear thats Looks Beautiful. (sry for the random capitalization, German auto-correction is annoying)
@@AveLukas42 Actually he might be doing it a bit after KH boss rankings and DMC rankings. Plus he may speedrun the game so keep an eye out on his twitch channel
I.... LOVE the Undead Settlement. The first time I ever encountered and completed that area, I felt so good after. I just thought the area was so cool and the intro to Siegward was quite pleasing.
Aside from the angels, I actually kinda enjoyed running through dreg heaps. I got to feel like I was exploring all the collapsed rubble and seeing what was truly happening at this, the end of the world. It was something we got to look at as we approached the final boss that just kinda begged you to explore. So when we actually got to explore it I was excited to see what secrets the ruins held.
Dreg Heap is great! Seeing my favorite enemies from DS2 come to life in Pyromancer Zoey was amazing! The angels were annoying, but once you killed their grubs, they didn't respawn. The demon prince battle was incredible; difficult but fair. Pretty much what I love about Dark Souls. 10/10 in my opinion
Yeah, it made me nostalgic for DSII. It was honestly sad seeing Earthen Peak in ruins. It makes me think of poor Lucatiel, Lenigrast, Shalquoir and the rest... Forgotten because of the probably many centuries that have passed.
@@sforrestjr316 I enjoyed the Dungeon as a haunting area, that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making you use the walls and rooms to stay out of the sight of the jailors. Also it managed to trigger my Tower of Latria PTSD and felt like a cool reference of this amazing area. But I also agree, that there are some issues with the dungeon, mainly the room at the bottom with the 1000 jailors
Latria's look and sound design are on an entirely other level. It's still one of the most atmospheric places in the entire series. It's incredible how much sounds can affect us. When someone mentions Latria, it's the various sounds (bell ringing, shouting, the merchant lady's singing, «please, help me») that pop into my mind first. The bell ringing of the Cthulhu jailors is still able to send shivers down my spine.
Irythill dungeon was creepy af. I felt on edge and creeped out the whole time. Those smeagol baby's are some of the most disturbing things in a video game ever. But agree that tower of latria is better
Smouldering Lake at sixth bottom?? I loved that area!! The vertical layout is really nice and the area sprawls into many different routes you can take. The big gru are really cool and not that hard once you learn them and you only ever have to fight more than one if you desperately need that loot in the corner (which I can't remember what it is). The small gru are cancer though and the flame thrower demons are just ugly blobs. There was huge missed oppertunities in this area. Sadly a lot was removed before release. There was suppose to be a huge bat boss in the big open area which sounds awesome and where the ballista is there were suppose to be another exit. You know that random staircase in Irithyll that just ends out of nowhere? Yep, that was supposed to lead right to the Smouldering Lake. You can even see it from the ballista through a big hole in the wall.
@@Belodri By the entrence to Irithyll Dungeon there's a staircase along the cliffside. Close to the big water area outside the city, where you fight the dog if you run past it on the bridge.
I’ve been binge watching demod for the last couple weeks especially the boss ranking videos, I love dark souls 3 my first souls game and In my opinion my favourite area has to be irrithyl as the scenery and atmosphere is great as well as one of the best bosses in the game.
Crazy, Road of Sacrifice was legit one of top 3 favourite areas. I love how it goes from a linear pathway but then completely opens up once you get to the lake/swamp, and how it has tons of little secrets and distinct sub areas. The castle with the sorcerers, the little forest with the fungi bugs and stake dudes, the open plain with the two enemy NPC's, and the Crab filled swamp in the center linking them all together. Areas which you can explore in any order. It also introduces like 5 new enemies. IDK to me it feels like a very well put together and dynamic areas that was really fun to explore, and it's honestly the kind of design I hope to see lots of in Elden Ring.
I honestly really like undead settlement and Catacombs, I like their designs and enemies, especially the stories in them like Siegward,Anri, and Irina. I also loved how you could go through them in different ways.
Wow I remember the first time I played through the Irithyll dungeon and it became one of my favourite locations in DS 3 and it still remains the same even with the DLCs out. I don´t even remember dying there...
Rob Nickerson I agree on archdragon peak. I started actually fighting through the boss fight area and it's pretty damn fun. Way better than just sprinting which is rare in this game
You know, I think everybody who complains about the Jailers in Irithyll Dungeon are forgetting about one simple thing: YOU CAN KILL THEM! THEY’RE NOT FUCKING INVINCIBLE! Run up, hit them until they die and if you lose health give it a minute until it comes back! Patience people, patience. The area still sucks but don’t make the area seem like it requires stealth when it doesn’t!
game devs: Hey Miyazaki, do you think we can make a game without a poison swamp? Miyazaki: ah yes, I suppose it's time. I think they can handle 2 now. game devs: but- Miyazaki: or maybe even 3- game devs: NO, 2 is fine we'll get right to work on it Miyazaki: No, you're right, we should add 4. I don't know what I was thinking
I'll add my voice to the Cathedral of the Deep appreciation group. I even liked the boss. And honestly the very first bit in the cemetery is one of my favorite parts of the game, just because of the atmosphere. It feels like you've suddenly been thrown into a zombie apocalypse movie. The dingy orange lighting from the sunset and the sounds of the hollows moaning and puking set the mood really well. Having to basically push and shove your way through the endless crowds of them is suitably unpleasant, but also kind of fun. And then you turn a corner and one of the hollows erupts into a pile of maggots and eats you alive! It's great! But then you cross that little bridge and it gets kind of lame.
Massively shocked to see cathedral so low on the list, was expecting top three placement as I see it as the best area in the main game, ignoring the deacons
Ya know I actually kinda like undead settlement....I understand it’s shit for quickly running through and the dogs suck ass but I really enjoyed its interconnected and overplayed design that reminded me of something like undead burg but mixed with bloodborne. And I sadly wish we got an even better version of this area that more so improved on the better aspects of it... Oh and just feel of undead settlement is cool to me...but it’s just a good area in general to me
I loved the Undead Settlement. It’s just full of dread and despair and is just very uncomfortable but it hats why I like it. I think it truly encapsulates the theme of DS3
It seems the major complaint about the areas that people consider the worst is that they are difficult.. ..like seriously? Also Road of Sacrifice =/= Crucifixion Woods. But you seem to think they are the same area. The two areas could not be more different.
Yeah, everyone shits on Irithyll Dungeon because of the Jailors, but I found the area fun to navigate because of the risk of being caught by the Jailors. Not to mention the creepy atmosphere and grotesque enemies. It embodies most of the things that make Dark Souls a great series
@@seraphinitegaming3123 Dont know how they are in your version but for me they are hidden until you either attack them or grab the loot at the end of the hallway
Already know Jailers (not for me but I can understand why a lot of people hate them), Shark Giant Fucktards, Skeleton Shit wheels, Winter Lanterns, Dogs, Fire salamanders, Ice Sanics, Rape Deer, Skeleton Dogs in the Tomb Of the Giants, and Spam the Paralyze spells and Fuck your Insight creatures will be on the list.
I agree that when you play the game again it does get pretty boring and the boss is one of the worst in the game, but for my first playthrough, I enjoyed it as well and it still has some redeeming qualities.
I find it hilarious that his reasoning for Undead Settlement being so low was basically “it’s not fun to play through the area if you try to run through the entire thing playing as little of it as possible.”
Undead settlement was one of my favorite areas in any souls game. Loved the layout, the lore, the atmosphere, everything. I would say the profaned capital was the most disappointing, not necessarily the worst. I was expecting it to be a big underground city, almost like New Londo. It was so much smaller than I expected.
You know, the irony after watching this list is, that if the From software took all these criticisms about their area design then we would likely end up with a mediocre game. I guess people who make nonconstructive criticisms simply lacks creativity nor have the appreciation for other people's ingenuity.
When getting one of the keys there's a room with two invisible jailers that aggro once you grab the keys, your virtually garunteed the loss because the block the door back out
Unpopular opinion but Cathedral of the Deep is the best area in the game. I love the whole church thing going on and I love how cavernous and small it makes you feel.
Real unpopular opinion: I think the Irithyll Dungeon is one of the better areas, perfectly encapsulating the survival horror vibes it was going for, and for being actually engaging in the sense that for a first blind playthrough you have to take your time and be deliberate about your decisions as it's very easy to take damage by making sloppy plays.
@@common_undead I think Irithyll dungeon is fine except for the room where they just stacked 8 jailers together. Kind of annoying if you want to engage with them, so I usually just avoid them
Wtf, Farron Keep was my favorite! Amazing solitary atmosphere, mysterious creatures and felt so much different than the rest. That’s the one I return to because I just like it a lot... it just has a sense of history to it almost like you could imagine how it’d look before. Shame it’s almost at the bottom of this list!
im on my 1st playthrough on ds3 and im at irithyll rn, but i really really enjoyed farron keep even tho it slows your movement, also i didnt really have a lot of trouble with enemies. i died a few times but i just laughed it off
So many of these low areas are great in terms of design imo. Undead Settlement allows you to adventure anywhere from that spot with the evangelist, Cathedral of the Deep feels difficult yet satisfying to overcome and also seems very grand. Irithyll Dungeon had great design with all the interconnectivity and it felt awesome to venture further into it (not to mention the amazing view of Profaned Capital halfway through). Smouldering Lake and Carthus both provided great challenges which I thought were fun and both had cool make-like level design. In fact, I think I might be able to come up with anything good about any of these bottom areas.
@@Galacalactus Interesting to see different people having different opinions over areas. I personally only use Smouldering Lake for getting an early +7 weapon. But I do love Farron Keep aswell, even though others hate it. Farron Keep is just so big, there is so much to explore. Irithyll looks amazing, Ringed City aswell, both have good gameplay on top of that imo. Untended Graves is very enjoyable and has imo the best lore in Soulsborne.
I actually like all these levels... confirming that ds3 (to me) has no bad areas. Some are mediocre but none are bad. Also I dont get the hate for farron keep. Its a great level
I feel the same, I love these games so much that all the areas people hate, I still love. Frigid outskirts and the iron passage are the only areas I truly hate and could gladly never go through again
@@joesheridan9451 these really are unbearable, I can't stand the challenge areas from DS2's DLCs. And in DS3, I agree, the swamp is good and the best they've ever made so far. The poison is ridiculously weak, and it's only in a small part of the map that you get slow. Besides, there is a plenty of variations all around, so if you pay attention, you can easily avoid being lost. It's a great, great improvement from DS1.
I always clear areas and get all items, except I do not kill vermins and parasites (ie small crabs, slimes), they're too much of a bother and thus I do not have a worst area because I always have fun clearing areas in whatever NG+ I am. I think playing offline helps too, as it can help you focus on exploring areas more thoroughly without an issue of someone invading.
I have actually! I played the first back when it came out and never played the other 2. I loved the Zelda/GoW mash-up style. I'll add it to my list in the hopes of doing it in the future.
Boy am I glad Grand Archives didn’t get placed on here. That area is under appreciated by a ton of people. Sure the scholar’s making you walk slow is annoying, but it increases tension imo. You could also argue that the wax head to get past curses is a gimmick, but don’t tell me you didn’t chuckle at first. The Sage makes sense to be there lore wise, and it’s much better chasing him through a level then a small area with clones. The NPC’s that you have to fight is a great fight, as the characters work together well, but don’t just rush you to seem overbearing. There’s cool little secrets like the bird cage and Orbeck, and the walk up to Twin Princes, which is one of, if not the best boss in the base game, is absolutely phenomenal. You feel like the kingdom has prepared for you and are throwing all that they have at you. One of the best areas, if you ask me.
@@HM4Hill Yeah, for hosts and invaders. Every time I host in there I get invaded in the worst spots possible, but whenever I invade their it's always at least a 3v1, and that's if I'm lucky.
I will forever despise farron keep. Everything about it. Poison swamp, ghrus, MASSIVE creatures that can one hit at almost any point, and I will NEVER EVER like the abyss watcher fight.
Farron Keep was oppressive, but Irythill Dungeon…good lord I HATE, I mean HATE that area. Probably the only area in a FromSoft game that I’ve played (that being Demons Souls, Bloodborne, DS3 and Elden Rint) that I’ve genuinely despised…especially as you have to go there multiple times of you want to do Nameless King. Irythill itself, however, is one of my favourite areas in the game, and Pontiff is an amazing boss.
The Smoldering Lake and that entire Lost Izalith area just...made me distantly sad. Like, do you know the feeling of remembering a pet that died years and years ago? That sort of distant, dull, quiet sadness? That's all I felt in that area. Just a quiet pang.
Holy shit I completely repressed how many shitty areas DS3 has and it's kind of insane that all of the worst ones are all back to back in the first half of the game. It's like the level designers dared each other to include as many annoying swamps as possible while having the player just barely hold on to their sanity.
22 and 21 were some of my favorite places. The music was great and the areas added a bit of horror. Plus the enemies were a lot stronger, something I had to respect.
I, for one, despise Farron keep. I wasted too many souls on purple moss clumps. >:(
I never bought any, one of the pick ups before you get into the zone gives you like nine of them and the enemies also occasionally drop them... I also tend to get through the whole zone by the time I use 3-4 of them even when collecting all items. Remember purple moss grows where it purple rains. Same with chocolate moss...
Wait what are these for?
Other than that area with all the Klan members around the tree. That was sort of bullcrap.
VersaMusic You could also throw firebombs at them. Takes several out because they are standing next to oil barrels

- the begining of the area suck
-worm blood effect
-bad boss
Pros
- great atmosphere
-intesting enemies
-Has one of the best bonfire placements in the entire franshise!
@LeadFaun The Decans of the deep in my opinion is just spam R1 and win.

These idiots cannot be serious.
Vasko Pohlupkov man serpents are aids
The maggot is easy to avoid if you know how, hold a torch and you are completely immune to them
Road of Sacrifices has more lore than "Aldrich took a dump here".
It was the path his followers used to ferry kidnapped men to the cathedral for Aldrich to devour. Hence the name, Road of Sacrifices
He knows. It's just that this is an area top 10 list, not a boss list.
Mc Solaire What does that have to do with being a boss list
Fuck sludge pudge boy
MKReptile Ermac It’s a nice little interlude
People only like easy and good looking areas remember
I still dont know why people hate it, yes for multiple playthroughts this area isnt a run thru area, but in my opinion, the game isnt just about rushing through everything, but more of exploring it throughly
The only place i think i collected all of the items but it was a hell was the faron keep. Swamps are stupid
Undead Settlement gives me some Bloodborne vibes, and I love it.
Best area for me, newbie
It just felt wasteful with so much empty space in the cathedral. Something couldve truly been outstanding there.
@@markrogers783 I see your point
I love the cathedral but something felt missing to me and it did feel a bit "empty"

Y’know I realized how much I enjoyed ds3 watching this video because even the most hated areas, I didn’t mind. I had a good time with all of the areas in at least one way or another.
I have a similar mind, there are only three areas that i really disliked: oceiros poison garden, profane capital (both because it felt like they could be more) and farros keep (because the slowing swamp)
The rest i reslly enjoy them.
I feel the same
I agree, the only area that annoyed me was farron keep but even that area has its charms
same, I loved Smouldering Lake/ Demon Ruins and Catacombs of Carthus. I feel like the reason why people hate some of these areas is because how difficult they are, it’s personally why I loved it.
Road of sacrifices? Damn. Would've never guessed that. And the cathedral was one of my favorite areas. This surprised me a lot
Same. Road of Sacrifices and Cathedral are Dark Souls at its best
Sorry, Road of sacrifices. Someone said “no bosses” correct me if I’m wrong and I’m sure I am but is the Crystal Sage not a boss in RoS?
yeah he literally showed the Crystal Sage as he said no bosses
He was reading a comment, and proved him wrong by showing the crystal sage while reading it. That comment also said that road of sacrifices has only 1 bonfire which is also bs
I think its because crystal sage is an optional boss, even though its the one that is most remember by item farmers cuz of its boss weapon
Actually that’s crucifixion woods
He was totally doing it on purpouse, he also read"no screts" while showing the guy that teaches you magic (whom i missed in my first playthrough)

It’s bizarre how different my list is. Smouldering Lake and Undead Settlement are fantastic areas.
Smouldering Lake is my favorite area
Smouldering Lake is eh, but I also don't really care too much about the lore of Demons, so take that as you will (Demon King is a pretty cool boss tho). Undead Settlement definitely deserves to be higher, but I can see why some would dislike it, it's just kinda bland aesthetically compared to Undead Burg.

To me, the beginning is by FAR the worst part, but once you get inside, it's a really good area. I absolutely LOVED the shortcuts in the Cleansing chapel, and the Cathedral knights are some of the most menacing standard enemies, in the base game at least.
I don’t think road of sacrifices was a bad area
It has the fallen knight armor and the weed shield
Change my mind
Marky Man i agree, if it was just the area from undead settlement to anri, it be bad, but the crab swamp is pretty good

@@sheogoraththetrickster8700 I like Undead Settlement. I judge the areas mostly by level design, and that area is pretty good in that aspect.
I liked it too I just really hate those fuckers with the logs 😂😂😂
"vape god Wolnir" 10/10 would die to smoke inhalation again.
I always skip Dreg Heap and go straight to the boss, and then come back later when I have the patience to loot all the items

Untended Graves is fucking dope. The lore is thought provoking and still difficult. The boss is awesome. The black Knights are fantastic. Not the best but super cool
I like how you visit different versions of firelink shrine three times
Once at the beginning (normal firelink)
Second in the mid to early late game (untended graves)
And third in th endgame (kiln of the first flame)
Found it awesome when I first found the place, breezed through the boss though
I hate untended graves because the enemies suck but I like the lore and aesthetic of the place
It’s finally here!!!! Thank you daddy DeMod!!!
"Areas of Dark Souls 3 bland in visual design" You should clarify it's your opinion, because I personally love the way many of them look.
That's how I feel lol. Ds3 visuals and consistant tone are only topped by bloodborne in my opinion.

Tower of Latria = Great
Irythill Dungeon = Bad
How???
Jailers. I think if you ignore jailers the entire area would be more loved
@@idraigirtm so in other words, dungeon is good.
Wait which staircase in Irithyll are you talking about? I don't think I ever noticed it.

@@andystewart3421 Blightown is great. Farron keep is pretty crap

I didn’t even struggle with the giants in the cathedral run right up to the right foot and just stand right next to it and swing away for me atleast

Honestly I'm surprised people find Road of Sacrifices relevant enough to throw at the bottom of a list lol
There are two invincible jailors in Profaned Capital. They block you in a hallway unless you kill them while theyre hidden
They aren't invincible tho
@@seraphinitegaming3123 Dont know how they are in your version but for me they are hidden until you either attack them or grab the loot at the end of the hallway
Invisible mate
List ranking idea most annoying enemy's in the souls series
Already know Jailers (not for me but I can understand why a lot of people hate them), Shark Giant Fucktards, Skeleton Shit wheels, Winter Lanterns, Dogs, Fire salamanders, Ice Sanics, Rape Deer, Skeleton Dogs in the Tomb Of the Giants, and Spam the Paralyze spells and Fuck your Insight creatures will be on the list.
@@Raptor3698 Basilisks
Brainsuckers and Winterlanterns
good idea
Outrider knight in lothric castle: ds3
I will give Road of Sacrifices a little of credit, it houses my favorite weapon in the game: the Exile Greatsword!
I honestly enjoyed undead settlement. Unlocking the bonfires and opening up the area was satisfying.
Facts it was fun to explore
Not unpopular
Shame it’s almost at the bottom of this list!
im on my 1st playthrough on ds3 and im at irithyll rn, but i really really enjoyed farron keep even tho it slows your movement, also i didnt really have a lot of trouble with enemies. i died a few times but i just laughed it off
Wdym only bonfire in road of sacrifice? There’s more than one. I thought that area was really good actually
I love road of sacrifices? So weird to me to see it at the bottom.
My favourite areas: Untended Graves, Ringed City, Irithyll
My least favourite area: Smouldering Lake
Good vid btw
Smoldering Lake is AWESOME. I just love the aesthetic. 10/10 would do again any time, and would thoroughly enjoy.
Yea I hate everything about Smouldering Lake.
@@joed5150 Well I hate you... lol
@@Galacalactus lol
I actually like all these levels... confirming that ds3 (to me) has no bad areas. Some are mediocre but none are bad.
Also I dont get the hate for farron keep. Its a great level
Wtf der Kommentar unter nem ds3 Video hat mich komplett geschickt xD
When are you uploading part 2 I can't wait any longer please
I like undead settlement admittedly because it’s a little nostalgic lol
I always clear areas and get all items, except I do not kill vermins and parasites (ie small crabs, slimes), they're too much of a bother and thus I do not have a worst area because I always have fun clearing areas in whatever NG+ I am. I think playing offline helps too, as it can help you focus on exploring areas more thoroughly without an issue of someone invading.
Have you ever thought of doing the darksiders series for boss ranking?
Honestly one of the only bad parts about it is how much of a pvp trap it is
@@HM4Hill Yeah, for hosts and invaders. Every time I host in there I get invaded in the worst spots possible, but whenever I invade their it's always at least a 3v1, and that's if I'm lucky.
The Undead Settlement is amazing. I honestly think it’s my second favorite area (Archdragon Peak is the best)
Weirdly, I also really like Undead Settlement, but I find Archdragon Peak to be really boring.
Irythill itself, however, is one of my favourite areas in the game, and Pontiff is an amazing boss.
this video made me realize that ds 3 has no bad areas lol
If Road of Sacrifices is the worst area in DS3, you know Fromsoft really did well, especially in comparison to previous titles in the series.
I'm surprised that undead settlement is not at the bottom that area is so shit
