Don't care what anyone else says, seeing this series return under the editorial of a veteran souls player vs your initial videos is a fun perspective to see as well as some nice nostalgia.
Even in light of Bayle the Dread, I still believe Midir is Fromsoftware's best dragon. The idea of going face-to-face with a dragon in a series where you typically nip at their ankles was an amazing decision, and while you can do that to an extent with Bayle, I find Bayle does overshoot with a lot of attacks where he ends up on top of you, and his bulky frame makes it easier to take hits on his backside before he can get you out from under him. All hail Midir. His difficulty may be diminished when you know how to fight him, but he's still a master class of how to do a large sized boss.
Always dodge backwards or towards the right for Bayle. He won't overshoot then. Should be pretty obvious that if he's moving towards you and you dodge forwards, obviously you'll end up under him. The same is true for Midir.
Midir is simply more consistent than Bayle which means he's better imo. Bayle has a better moveset but your options are limited by jank which is unfortunate.
Why would you nip at Bayle ankles under any circumstance. There is no position where it's more advantageous to hit his head instead if you're ever under him you can just reposition yourself.
Easy by Elden Ring standards but, even if it’s unpopular, I think this game is the series at its best when it comes to balancing difficulty, spectacle and intuitive gameplay. It will always be up there with Bloodborne for my favorite but in that specific department related to boss design, it takes the cake for me
Fr. Ds3 bosses overall r just way better quality but ER has some amazing bosses as well. Compared to ds3, ER's has more mid to bad bosses. But what pisses me off the most is that FS literally perfected gank fights in ds3, and then threw all of that away in ER for some bullshit difficulty. Even with summons, the ER gank fights aren't fun.
I can't figure out why but DS3 is still much harder for me to master than Elden Ring. I went from DS1 -> DS3 -> Elden Ring and ER is by far the easiest. I'm not saying this to try and sound cool. I haven't even played Shadow of the Erdtree yet, but it took me far longer to beat Lothric than it did Melania. Jumping is kinda OP in a souls game
@@colem631I'm the opposite. Very few DS3 enemies and bosses put out a challenge for me. ER has gotten easier over time, but I've also spent over 400 hours in that game so it makes sense. 🤷
You should be aware that you don’t actually have to kill Argo in the Halflight fight. If you just wait for him to do his spiel, he’ll just stand there, do nothing, and eventually die as soon as Halflight gets summoned.
its very weird because in his very first Ringed City review video he literally says it himself that fighting Argo or not doesn't matter. Like, istg the dude got so depressed over the blacklash over his SOTE critique that he got himself a mental reset that ended up resetting his memory too. He even sounds extremely different in his recent videos. Makes me sad ngl.
@@grfrjiglstan he literally speedran this game hundreds of times. Including many boss rushes. There is no way in hell that he can forget an actual boss mechanic, let alone one about whether you should or shouldn't fight an enemy. That's like forgetting that you dont have to kill the other deacons, only the red marked ones. I was thinking of the possibility that maybe he wanted to kill Argo so the fight would start faster, but that doesn't happen either. @@nicecoat5004 His sote critique wasn't even that bad. Yh he made some bad points but overall, it really wasn't that bad. But souls fans being souls fans, also just used the bad points to misinterpret and disregard everything else that were actually good critiques.
Hey Dmod here’s a tip, on the Nameless King when he does the charged lightning attack that “homes in on you” like you described at 15:46, you can “dodge” it by simply unlocking on from him, and turning your camera around so your character and camera are facing AWAY from him and just stand still, the lightning will never hit you. Trust me, try it.
I believe that shit also works in PVP to the point you had to free aim the weapon art to land it on players who were aware of the trick... or not, it's been 5 years since I put down my sword.
I'm not sure how reliable this video is. Maybe it would be more accurate to call this a NG+ boss ranking, as you would not have that axe early on in the game. The DPS on that thing is way better than anything else you can get at that point and it just feels really broken.
DS3 is probably the weirdest of the Souls games to revisit. Knowing about skips like the tree jump and the two Cathedral shortcuts, almost all the friction the game has to offer is pared down to a minimum. Everyone just blitzes Vordt, jumps off the cliff for Yoel’s free levels, etc. On the bright side, No Storm Yhorm is a great time, and essentially reclaims a gimmick boss into a genuine fight.
Nameless will always have a special place in my heart as he was the first souls boss I spent hours and days learning, truly learning every of his moves and actions. (DS3 was my first Souls). I'm more likely to die to Vordt than to him ^^
For my money Friede takes my spot as the hardest boss in the three Souls games. If you don't have a weapon that staggers her on hit, you are in a world of pain. And taking into account that she can recover in an instant and jump out of your range.
Oceiros above nameless is kind of wild. Agree nameless isn't as hard as people initial thought but I've never really been troubled by oceiros. He's inconsistent in speedruns sure but in a standard playthrough you really shouldn't die if you take your time
I do agree that NK definitely takes much more time to properly learn... But after a while Oceiros is far worse and takes more time, cause he's far "dirtier" with hit boxes and moves. So from a "veteran" standpoint it makes sense to put NK as easier, cause once you learn his moves you won't really lose anymore, whereas with Oceiros you can easily get fooled
even after Elden rings release and even sekiro with its impressive catalog of incredible bosses slave knight gael still to me is the best of all of them in the entire franchise of souls series including elden ring, bloodborne and sekiro just because of how beautifully crafted he was story design and mechanic wise he is just perfection in my eyes
If we're talking ng7, I'd say gael takes the cake. Even on a fully leveled character, that damn cape makes me glad to have popped tears of denial on. The damage is unforgiving but fair, the move set is relentless, making it feel like you're in the matrix once you've learned how to dodge correctly. Absolute cinema
Didn't expect all the trading(or face tanking) against Midir despite the knowledge. When I returned to DS3 recently after not touching it for a very long time, I still remembered to walk backwards to neuter the threat of his melee attacks, and then walk in for a whiff punish, which works for weapons of any speed, even charged R2s of a UGS.
To this day my top three are Midir, Gael, and Friede in said order. After beating elden ring and its DLC I should revisit the trio. Great video, cheers 🍻
Midir being #1 is interesting in that it kinda shows how some players will never feel truly comfortable around certain bosses no matter how much of a veteran they are. Because I think nowadays Midir is considered a pretty tough boss but not the monster he was at DLC launch. But iirc Demod has always struggled with Midir from the beginning. So it’s nice to have that sort of perspective. For me, Sister Friede would be the only DS3 boss that consistently skillchecks me.
Ds3 is the best game in the dark souls trilogy It has the highest quality of bosses, spectacular level design and immaculately balanced difficulty, the bosses might not have been the hardest in the series, but I had more fun fighting the princes and nameless than even the best bosses in ds2 because ds2 is simply too slow, but ds3 has bloodborne's faster combat blended seamlessly into its action economy, making it just fast enough to keep my attention and just enough of a challenge to give me a sense of achievement when I overcome a boss...
I’m gonna disagree with you on the part about level design buddy. Admittedly the drab color palette may play some part in it but these levels are a total drag to get through. They’re just…not fun. I think, with the exception of Farron Keep and MAYBE the Painted World of Ariandel, they’re too linear. This may be a bit of a hot take but I honestly prefer Blighttown from DS1 to most of these levels. My biggest issue with that area is just how much distance there is between the Depths Bonfire and the first Blighttown Bonfire. Once you get past that, the area’s not so bad. The toxic dart guys are annoying but the rest of the area is interestingly designed and both the lighting and color palette make it look very unique. DS3’s areas are just boring.
No boss has ever taken me longer than nameless king did in 2016. Melania/consort Rhadan on paper are so much harder but when I played ds3 for the first time I was stuck on nameless for so much longer than the bosses in elden ring
The Watchers were difficult for my first few playthroughs, because I wasn't used to the quick moveset and didn't know how to min-max weapons early. But later, they were the easiest Lord of Cinder for me.
Midir felt so much easier for me imo than sister friede... that dragons attacks felt so natural for me, i didnt struggle much everytime i fought it. Friede on the other hand drove me fucking nuts.
Hot take: I think Demon Princes are actually harder than the Friede and Father gank in the 2nd phase. For one thing, Father is not as big as the Demon Princes to the point where it gets hard to read his moves. Just don't get too greedy and watch for the occasional ice floor attack from Friede and use the healing window to wallop on the Father more. For Demon Princes, you will likely spend half the time being under one of them, which makes you susceptible to counterattack from the other one. Or heck, they will just both go so aggro on you that you won't have room to breathe, let alone attack! And just like 3rd phase of Friede, you aren't out of the woods in that 2nd phase of Demon Prince! You still gotta dodge everything from big sweeps, slams, charges, and projectiles. And with a pretty girthy health pool, Demon Prince is an endurance fight akin to Midir and Nameless King. Good luck finding a consistent way back through that 1st phase when you make costly mistakes that end your run. 😟
Bro I gotta know where you get your thumbnail art from Also 24:39 is definitely a spicy take in the larger community, tho I understand it. I personally enjoy both DS2 and DS3 more than DS1, but I definitely see how middling the non-boss portions of the game are with DS3.
What I find interesting is how my tier list is vastly different from yours purely because my runs are always like a glass cannon So some bosses like Soul of Cinder are higher than ones liek Friede. Especially for a no hit run. I've been attempting that for a while and my goodness, certain bosses are ridiculous
You really ought to do this kind of analysis on the bosses in MGR: Revengeance. Some of those bosses are works of art. Was bummed you didn't click with that game.
@@soulsmasterxw7373 If you only give them one run on Normal, you miss so much genius about their design. So many moves and combo variations. You have a counter to everything, but it is a lot. So fun to master.
I’ve been replaying dark souls 3 (and going past where I left off in the ringed city). I’m fighting the bosses on my own and I’ve generally been enjoying it a lot more than my first time playing the game with my claymore. For some reason, my claymore never seemed like it did good damage while my weapons and spells do pretty good damage in this run. I beat Friede a few days ago and it was definitely the hardest fight so far, but by the time I beat her, I ended up enjoying the fight.
Did a DS3 run after putting in literal thousands of hours into Elden Ring the past two years, and jeez is this game a breeze now. Even the old nightmares like Nameless King were a snooze because of how limited his moveset actually is. The only boss I died to was Midir because I got cocky and didn't have enough heals. Compared to Bayle though he was very manageable. And Midir used to be that unbeatable boss for me too. Not anymore.
One thing people don't really pay attention to is fire can wipe your frostbite status effect hence letting friede frostbite you again Never seen such thing in any other boss ever
How did Soul of Cinder climb so high? Maybe I'll have a different perspective if I were to go back to it now after playing Elden Ring, but for me, his fight was never hard.
Fight him at level 1...🙄 Soul of Cinder is easily the hardest boss in the base game. It's not even close tbh. Actually even with the DLC only Friede beats him.
Lothric and Lorian isn't hard to pull off until you reach NG+3 and have to deal with both princes at the same time, while they do enough damage to kill pretty much any build in 1 to 2 hits. This is one of those fights that is much more balanced for upwards of NG+
going from elden ring to older FS games make them feel so much slower i used to struggle with bloodborne but now i can 1 shot nearly every boss on a fresh character
Difficulty has not always to go along with quality - MY WORDS My favourite DS3 boss is the Crystal Sage. I also like Friede & Ariandel BUT for example, I also like Pinwheel 😅
I don't know if this is a hot take, but I've never found the dragonslayer Armour to be remotely difficult. Sure, he got me a few times on my first playthrough, but I don't think I've died to him since. It's a very fair fight with plenty of opportunity to counter. Heck, I consistently have more trouble with the Abyss watchers
While not super difficult, I do think this is the hardest Souls game overall, no matter how experienced you are. As far as actual Souls games go. If we're including like Sekiro and stuff, yeah, sure, this is ranked a bit lower, but as far as actual Souls games go, and even honestly more From Soft has to offer, this game is pretty dang respectable and feels almost the best to play again overall.
Bloodborne Top 5 prediction: 1-Orphan 2-Lawrence 3-Ludwig 4-Maria 5-Gehrman Almost 15 years later, Bloodborne’s DLC is still an S tier DLC in terms of boss quality AND difficulty. It’s also better than SotE… I said what I said.
Parry, what exactly? 🤨 😅 I have a hard time believing the opportunity cost is worth it when she got Abyss Watcher levels of combos that will make me drink Estus like I got the flu. 🤧
On my first DS3 playthrough I completely missed the Crystal Stage (and by extension, the cathedral of the deep) and as a newbie, that Abyss Watchers fight took me the second longest to get down only beaten out by Lorian/Lothric. Now that I'm older and wiser it's not so bad, but using a +2 weapon on the Abyss Watchers was not fun
Personally for me after so many playthroughs I’d put soul of cinder in top 3 because he’s one of the few bosses that while they don’t start out as extremely tough I’ve found he never really got any easier with time. For me anyways
I don't think I agree on soul of cinder. Nameless took me like two weeks to beat, and only with summoning someone. Then, after my brother told me "you know that guy is optional, right?" It took me 3 tries to delete soul of cinder and I almost felt underwhelmed by how little challenge it posed.
It's interesting to see how everyone have different experience with the game DS3 was my first souls game, and nameless took around 3 hours to beat in my first playthrough while SOC took 10 hours, he is by far the hardest boss in the series for me to this day
I was not a big Dark Souls fan. My first Souls game was Bloodborne. I played DS3 for awhile but couldn't figure it out. I've played through Dark Souls a total on once. After about 500 hours or playing Elden Ring I came back to DS3. And let me tell you. It was a breeze 🤣🤣 its the fastest of the Dark Souls game. And playing the much faster Elden Ring got me far more used to DS3. I got stuck at Dragon Slayour Armor on my only playthrough of DS3. After I game back to this from Elden Ring. I was so much better because of how fast Elden Ring is. Got me used to the much faster pace of DS3. I'm sure if I went back to DS1 now I would suck horrendously because of how slow and clunky it is
I guess I must be bad at video games. The Twin Princes always give me nothing but fits. I take the usual amount of time with the other bosses but for some reason, those two always hand me my butt.
Haaing DMod say that DS3 is his least favorite made me feel so vindicated in my general distaste for this game after I returned to it when I did my run of the trilogy post Elden Ring. I'm not a fan of the combat at all
i don't know I'd argue Friede is easier than gael cause in all 3 phases you can abuse her with parries and backstabbing but with gael neither of those work
I think Frieda and Midr aren’t hard at all personally they are pretty easy for me I hardly ever struggle with them especially Frieda but they do give me a good challenge time to time also I think DS3 is the best in the series personally
Friede is the absolute hardest boss in my opinion and i dont enjoy fighting her. Shes the only boss i havnt beaten without summoning an npc. I genuinely found midir easy in comparison and beat him in 6 or so attempts.
*Ranks 5 of the top 10 bosses in the series from Dark Souls 3, including his #1* “Dark Souls 3 may be my least favorite FromSoft game” Are you sure about that, kid? 😅😂 You yourself consider half the best bosses in the entire series, including #1, all from Dark Souls 3.

You really ought to do this kind of analysis on the bosses in MGR: Revengeance. Some of those bosses are works of art. Was bummed you didn't click with that game.
That was similar to DS3 actually. He loved the bosses ALOT, he just didn't like the rest of the game
@@soulsmasterxw7373 If you only give them one run on Normal, you miss so much genius about their design. So many moves and combo variations. You have a counter to everything, but it is a lot. So fun to master.
This is what we want, this is what we NEED!
One thing people don't really pay attention to is fire can wipe your frostbite status effect hence letting friede frostbite you again
Never seen such thing in any other boss ever
How did Soul of Cinder climb so high? Maybe I'll have a different perspective if I were to go back to it now after playing Elden Ring, but for me, his fight was never hard.
Yeah like SOC is my favorite fight in DS3, but he’s really not that tough. I have way more issue with the twin princes
Fight him at level 1...🙄
Soul of Cinder is easily the hardest boss in the base game. It's not even close tbh. Actually even with the DLC only Friede beats him.
Hell yea! DS3 and its bosses have a special place in my heart
and yet remains, Dark souls 3 is my favorite game of all time
The bosses of DS3 are... nice? Nameless? I don't know. But it's great to see a fresh perspective on these iconic bosses.
14:10 not going to lie, I was fully expecting a VPN ad right there
Lothric and Lorian isn't hard to pull off until you reach NG+3 and have to deal with both princes at the same time, while they do enough damage to kill pretty much any build in 1 to 2 hits.
This is one of those fights that is much more balanced for upwards of NG+
going from elden ring to older FS games make them feel so much slower
i used to struggle with bloodborne but now i can 1 shot nearly every boss on a fresh character
I’m surprised people thought Crystal Sage was hard. It’s not so bad when you bring a couple of throwing knives and turn a 6v1 back to a 1v1
Do a Nine Sols list! Really good boss roster.
Difficulty has not always to go along with quality - MY WORDS
My favourite DS3 boss is the Crystal Sage. I also like Friede & Ariandel BUT for example, I also like Pinwheel 😅
Gael being in the top 3 is nuts ngl.
ancient wivern be like dragon god 4.0
an arena you have to navigate carefully to reach the point where you can blast 'em out
I don't know if this is a hot take, but I've never found the dragonslayer Armour to be remotely difficult. Sure, he got me a few times on my first playthrough, but I don't think I've died to him since. It's a very fair fight with plenty of opportunity to counter. Heck, I consistently have more trouble with the Abyss watchers
Great video! i honestly think that friede is easier than gael tho, mostly because friede is parryable
Bloodborne Top 5 prediction:
1-Orphan
2-Lawrence
3-Ludwig
4-Maria
5-Gehrman
Almost 15 years later, Bloodborne’s DLC is still an S tier DLC in terms of boss quality AND difficulty. It’s also better than SotE…
I said what I said.
Fine I’ll play Dark Souls 3 again
Guys nameless isnt that bad. Just hug himnand strafe left and he'll just keep turning to face you instead of attacking. Same happens with pontiff
Never thought Friede was anywhere as hard as Gael once you learn how to parry her
Parry, what exactly? 🤨 😅 I have a hard time believing the opportunity cost is worth it when she got Abyss Watcher levels of combos that will make me drink Estus like I got the flu. 🤧
@@pixelbro99 abyss watchers are easy to parry and backstab too, just like friede
That fight did make me fall in love with the game though. I thought their moves were awesome
Great bosses in this game ❤
Dark souls 3 my favorite souls game man so many great bosses so fun and not to crazy hard
For me, Friede would be #1 if you play solo. But Midir is worse because a summon makes him even harder.
bro went back to 0
That's what V2 is for
Personally for me after so many playthroughs I’d put soul of cinder in top 3 because he’s one of the few bosses that while they don’t start out as extremely tough I’ve found he never really got any easier with time. For me anyways
Twin princes at 15 is crazy
Top 2 base game IMO
Wow I honestly thought Crystal Sage would be near Ancient Wyvern in difficulty
Mann i hate fighting outrider Knights..
Yeh, I don't find them 'as' hard as I use to, but I still hate them 😂
Ratatouille Critic Flashback.Gif
Midir my GOAT
I don't think I agree on soul of cinder.
Nameless took me like two weeks to beat, and only with summoning someone.
Then, after my brother told me "you know that guy is optional, right?"
It took me 3 tries to delete soul of cinder and I almost felt underwhelmed by how little challenge it posed.
It's interesting to see how everyone have different experience with the game
DS3 was my first souls game, and
nameless took around 3 hours to beat in my first playthrough while SOC took 10 hours, he is by far the hardest boss in the series for me to this day
Nice!
im simple men i see dark souls 3 video i click it
I was not a big Dark Souls fan. I'm sure if I went back to DS1 now I would suck horrendously because of how slow and clunky it is
Beat ng1 and 2 with the corvian great knife and the bone spear (might have messed these names up been a while) cause the bosses were just way to easy
My first time finishing aldritch i was killed by his arrow rain then the cutscene to emma happend
You've played a demake before right? I recommend playing Megaman X8 Demake, its out now.
Ah yes, my first foray into a Fromsoft's Souls game.
I guess I must be bad at video games. The Twin Princes always give me nothing but fits. I take the usual amount of time with the other bosses but for some reason, those two always hand me my butt.
Champions grave tender was harder than slave knight Gael for me 😂
Haaing DMod say that DS3 is his least favorite made me feel so vindicated in my general distaste for this game after I returned to it when I did my run of the trilogy post Elden Ring. I'm not a fan of the combat at all
Really Gael easier than Midir? With a lightning weapon?
Wtf, no. Gael was something, but give my girl her deserved number one spot
Good video. Will there be a black myth wukong boss ranking?
21:38 bro just said "assages"
Does.... does he not know that throwing knives one shot the Crystal Sage clones and make the fight trivial? CS doesn't even crack my top 20
i don't know I'd argue Friede is easier than gael cause in all 3 phases you can abuse her with parries and backstabbing but with gael neither of those work
ranking bosses based on parries and having higher tier upgrades seems unfair if then you don't just cheese halflight with poison mist
pontiff is my favorite
I think Frieda and Midr aren’t hard at all personally they are pretty easy for me I hardly ever struggle with them especially Frieda but they do give me a good challenge time to time also I think DS3 is the best in the series personally
Friede is the absolute hardest boss in my opinion and i dont enjoy fighting her. Shes the only boss i havnt beaten without summoning an npc. I genuinely found midir easy in comparison and beat him in 6 or so attempts.
Wtf how is old demon king that easy?!?!?!? Him and Nameless were the only bosses that game me a hard time my first playthrough 😢😢😢
*Ranks 5 of the top 10 bosses in the series from Dark Souls 3, including his #1*
“Dark Souls 3 may be my least favorite FromSoft game”
Are you sure about that, kid? 😅😂
You yourself consider half the best bosses in the entire series, including #1, all from Dark Souls 3.
Didn't you say the innovation Souls was providing had stagnated a few years ago? And that it was high time you moved on to other things? I understand loving the Souls games and wanting to come back to them as a content form now and again, but you mostly had negative things to say about their approach to Elden Ring.
Are lists like this not a slight sign of stagnation of ideas from you?
i know its controversial but i still believe midir is harder than friede and very very slightly harder than bayle
Never seen someone do remakes of their own top tens, but here we are
Never seen someone care enough to complain about a remake of a top ten video, but here we are.
@andyb6400 Aww, you really thought you cooked with that one huh?
anything for the youtube slop machine
@sh00ner calm down its just a youtube video, you're gonna be ok
