I lived in India and Thailand for 11 years. Back in Europe for 12 years now but this year I am returning to Asia, Cambodia this time. I love being part of the Asian culture. I am still greeting people in Europe Thai style with a wai. I am cooking Asian meals almost every day. I dont wear shoes indoors and I had a toilet shower installed. I will be so happy to be back this year for retirement.
*WOW! That was an education. Happy to see they drive on the right side of the road that will make it easy if we ever go to Cambodia. My Thai wife doesn't seem to keen on going there and you may have revealed the reason why. Be well.*
Siem Reap will be my place to retire.
That is a great choice.
and now 1 year later again its like a whole new city with all good roads
Fortunately I know how to cook. I've seen plenty of markets with everything I need to keep myself fed. Meat and veggies is all I need and I see plenty in the markets.
Great video as always. Siem Reap is certainly one of the best places for an expat to live in Cambodia.
Yes. Sometimes you want to eat terrible chain restaurant food and you can find it there. Qiang Hui has chicken at a Burger King. They have a Hard Rock cafe there too. Thanks for commenting Metal G. Best, Dan
@@VagabondAwake but no McDonalds in the country of Cambodia
Thanks so much for this. We've just uploaded our cost of living video for Siem Reap, and it's good to compare our numbers with yours :)
Glad it was helpful! You guys live there now?
@@VagabondAwake yes, we've been here for 13 months now. Where are you at the moment?
Very informative. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I fell in love literally at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. I hope on my 4th trip I will go to the coast at Sihanoukville and then go to the islands Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem.
Thanks for commenting Anthony. Please subscribe if the mood strikes. Best, Dan
The Islands are beyond beautiful, I would however spend as little time in SH as possible.
I havenยดt been to Cambodia yet, but planning a trip in December as a recon for somewhere to retire. Iยดve been to Thailand many times but always imagined Cambodia was much cheaper to live, but Iยดm surprised to see that renting a condo in Siem Reap is more expensive than Bangkok? And often without a pool and gym, which are essential for me.
Siem Reap is an expensive tourist town. Try one of the other towns.

Plus anything online nowdays is expensive. Use my process to get a better deal:

very funny today i was walking around old market area and you should see it now, lots of roads are real warzones.lots of the stores on your video are no longer there even only 1 year later
The world is changing super fast!
Thank for trip to Cambodia
We loved our time there.
I really enjoyed your video very clear well spoken and narrated you know quite a lot about siem reap ! And Cambodia ๐ฐ๐ญ
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Dan... first just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos and appreciate the sage advice. I'm wondering ultimately, which country do you think you might settle down in? At least as a home base for your travels... thx Tim.
I am evaluating that question now in fact. Stay tuned. It shouldn't be more than a few weeks before I publish my Best Countries to Retire in 2020.
@@VagabondAwake Thank you for getting back to me. I am looking forward to the publication.
Great info, thanks. Couple of things.
If a fella likes to swim, are there any hotels that will let you use their pool? Cost?
Also, I hear the ER Visa (over 55's) is pretty easy to get. Are they easy to renew year-on-year? And would you say it's best to use an agent? What's the cost of a 1 year ER visa through those guys? Many thanks.
I suggest getting a referral from someone that recently used an agent for this purpose. Go to one of the Facebook expat pages for Cambodia and ask the expats there. :-)
@@VagabondAwake Mate, don't be a smart-ass. If you're uploading videos that imply expertise, you should at least be able to answer basic questions. I lived in HK, Korea and Japan for a decade, and could provide answers to these questions, about those places, straight away. If you don't know anything, that's fine. Just say that.
Hey are you guys plan to do myanmar??
Probably in 2021 or 22. I was there in 2016 and the Internet was terrible. I couldn't do conference calls or upload videos. It is a very interesting place though.
๐๐๐
:-)
Why would anyone want to retire in a tourist trap? Visit, ok. Retire????
Where do you want to retire Thomas.
Siem Reap is so much more than that.
