I think there are actually 5 in the running: Allmans at the Fillmore, Skynyrd's One More from the Road, The Who's Live at Leeds, Derek and the Dominoes In Concert, and CSNY's Four WAY Street.
Fillmore East was in NYC; Fillmore West was in San Francisco. And just remember for the future, this is the last time that you will see Duane live because he died about a month or 2 after this concert, in fact the live double album from this concert which put the Allman Brothers on the map, came out after Duane Allman tragically died in a motorcycle accident. The next album Eat a Peach went through the roof, and it was a double album tribute to Duane. Duane was on just 3 songs on what was supposed to be a single album. But they put on the 3 songs Duane played on the same side and added two more cuts from their Fillmore concert, this song and Trouble No More which highlighted Duane's amazing slide guitar. This became Side 3. Side 1 had 3 great new songs, recorded after Duane's death, two by Gregg Allman and one by Dickey Betts, who now was also the only lead guitarist left. Side 2 and 4 are the Mountain Jam, a 45-minute jam that saw the original incarnation of the band, with Duane and Dickey trading licks all the way, one last time.
Sad commentary. But they were Surely the Best . I wish I'd got off my behind years earlier and listened to them. Better late than never has never been truer to me.
@@BigCarmine The Fillmore East archives shows that Johnny Winter and Elvin Bishop were also on the bill for the March 11-13 shows. However, Wikipedia indicates the 3/12 & 3/13 shows were recorded. Additionally, there were also two performances per night. On one of the numerous releases of the album, Elvin Bishop sings Drunken Hearted Boy to close the final show that ended 6:00 AM. It's hard to piece together all the information, but regardless, there's no doubt in my my mind that At the Fillmore East is the finest live album ever released that inevitably propelled the Allman Brothers Band to their rightful place in rock history. It's truly unfortunate that Duane would die 7 months later riding his harley, and then Berry also dying in another tragic motorcycle wreck a year later after Duane. As one who saw them in action in 71, 72 through tragic deaths of Duane then Barry, young generation's discovery of the band anew makes me very happy! It certainly is a great gain for this generation to appreciate a true gem unlike anything nowadays.
Same here! Saw them play for free in a park about a week before their first album came out and they hit it big. Been a fan ever since. I'm so happy to see younger people catching on to great music!
Not only are there two drummers, but one thing they are well known for is playing dual synchronized lead guitars. You can hear it really well in Melissa, Jessica, and Blue Sky, for example.
That is swing, funk, jazz, blues, rock. They've got a lot of different elements in their music. That beat is a swing beat, the slide blues, the bass funk, and it all rocks and swings. Amazing, amazing band, especially live. Pure genius.
Butch and Jaimoe ALWAYS practiced together. That's why their differing styles meshed so well. They knew how to complement each other without stepping on toes.
Thankful for all the music I was exposed to during my formative years, some of it just grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. This is one of those bands. RIP Duane and Gregg
At 71, I got to enjoy them for 5 de ades, true pioneers with their own sound. It's way cool to see younger cats discovering the ABB and finding a great era for us old schoolers.
Gregg was vocal, and Played the Hammond B 3 ORGAN. Two drummers, two lead guitars, epic bass and ALL were masters. No auto tune, no engineering magic, just straight up band playing with so much talent, love, skill and dedication. And they always gave credit to past blues masters or who ever influenced them. But they mixed it up and had their own sound, genre.✌🏼✌🏼💕💕
Founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregory LeNoir "Gregg" Allman, who with his Hammond B-3 organ, and soft but growling voice helped create a sound that was simultaneously jazz, rock, blues, and parts San Francisco jam band, and that became the defining tone of Southern rock music,
@@stephenbloom8107 off the top of my head, I’d say Robert Johnson, Albert King, BB king, Freddie King, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, but there are more. The point is, it wasn’t two guys.
Just an fyi - Greg Allman was touring and recording right up until his death of liver cancer in 2017. His final album, released shortly after his death is a masterpiece.
I bought this double album back in 1971 when it came out. I remember having friends over and CRANKING IT UP. It was the first band, that I recall, to have TWO DRUMMERS and TWO LEAD GUITARISTS. This band had it all. Gregg Allmans vocals were simply great.
I just want you to know that you both have quickly become my favorite music reactors; you get deep into the music; you “hear” the instruments, the arrangements, the lyrics; you react to a variety of genres and eras, your commentary is serious and insightful, you care to do research once a group/performer gets your interest, and I was not surprised to hear in one of your videos that you have an engineering studio. Add to that, your smiles ❤ Bravo!!!
Agreed Jacqueline ❗ I just found these 2 REACTORS recently & they're my new favorites. They are spot on. Great taste & commentary. I could watch Music Reaction Videos for hours if there were more like these 2 gems. What fun to re live this ERA of Rock🎵🎵🎵
I'm a huge fan of the Allman Brothers band and I'm so happy you both enjoy their music. Just in case you're interested this band continues to this day, with some of the members being related to the founding members. Here's a live performance of them singing one of the original band's popular songs "The Allman Betts Band - Midnight Rider (Allman Brothers Band Cover)" and the second lead guitarist was Dickey Betts he's a guitar G.O.A.T also. And this is a live performance "Allman Brothers Band - Come On In My Kitchen" the Rhythm & Blues duo Delaney and Bonnie recorded the song in an acoustic medley with Duane Allman on Dobro, released on their 1971 album "Motel Shot" RIP: Duane, Gregg, Berry, and Butch 🔥💔🙏 U R Missed another tragic fact is that on Nov. 11, 1972 barely over a year after Duane Allman's death, Berry Oakley (bassist) is killed in a motorcycle accident only a few blocks from where Duane Allman's fatal motorcycle accident occurred a year earlier. This band is from Georgia...this is truly southern rock at it's best. Wonderful reaction guys thanks so much for sharing 🎶💖🎸🎸
I read Greg's autobiography. There was a black man in his town which helped him learn to play guitar and sing. I don't know when he learned to play the organ. But he plays guitar also.
The ABB was final act to close the Legendary Filmore Easr on NYC. Thank you Bill Graham for you vision in helping the ABB reach the successes they had.
I subscribed to your channel once I saw you guys doing one of my favorite songs! The original ABB as seen here were good as there ever was in my opinion!
Guys This is a killer album. Check out In Memory of Elizabeth Read, and Stormy Monday. One of the only road bands. To play that tight live. And I warned you both about Dickie & Dwayne. Arguably the best guitar duo in all of Rock. And I believe their also the first great band to use 2 drummers ❤
You guys are so fun to watch learn about our “old” music. Being 14 in 1975 was the greatest time on Earth for a teenager with all the music coming out in this era and even a few years before! I wouldn’t want to have been born in any other time frame, at least music wise!
Greg was by far the most soulful white vocalist ever. Some will tell you it's Joe Cocker, others might try to convince you it's Rod Stewart, it's neither. It's Greg Allman and no oneo else sounds like him or even comes close. RIP Greg.
The Holy Trio of Southern Rock is Lynard Skynard, Little Feat, & The Allman Bros. Band. Skynard leans into the Metal and Blues sound. Little feat is Funk and Country Phychadelic Rock & The Allmans are heavy into the Blues side 💙 side of Rock with a lot of open Phychadelic jams.
The Grateful Dead were the first rock band to have 2 drummers, though it was James Brown’s band that was the first to bring 2 drummers to the R&B/Funk world. Thanks for playing this!❤
Duane died at 24. I think Fillmore he was 22 . Greg was 19. 20. They were country kids who grew up with gospel, country, bluegrass. Duane was playing with the stars at 17. Just think is They could have 3 or for more years with Duane.
The entire album at Fillmore East is fantastic. I’m a diehard fan even meeting. You would love STORMY MONDAY and another suggestion is IT’S NOT MY CROSS TO BEAR. They have a huge catalog to explore. My 2nd visit to your channel. ✌️ Might I add, they were a jam band meaning they would jam for 2 to 3 hours.
I always thought that the ABB had a little jazz vibe undercurrent to their sound...so improvisational...someone said, telepathic...I think that's a great way to describe the magic brew they had...so glad y'all play this✌
First saw ABB in June 1974 at Georgia Jam and am closing in on 68. Still love ABB. Another example of Gregg's singing talents can be found in him singing Slip Away. Some blue eyed soul right there !
You guys are *gettin it* ! I do believe The Allmans are the first rock band to have 2 drummers - and the combo of Butch Trucks (the freight train) and Jaimo who was originally a jazz drummer (and also played with Otis Redding) and adding Berry Oakley on bass (one of the most under appreciated bassists in history) was a HUGE and amazing rhythm section. Their sound was BIG and so, so tight. The album "Live at Fillmore East" is in the national archives as a "significant" work of art, just FYI. In my opinion, it is the greatest live album ever recorded. If y'all wanna check out other tunes from that album I suggest "Hot 'Lanta" (so tight it's hard to tell that it's being played live, and if you listen closely the genius of Berry Oakley on bass is clearly evident), or "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" - a mix of scorching Blues, Jazz, and rock with amazing guitar solos by Duane. That recording was done more than 50 years ago and the oldest member of the band at that time was 24n years old.... The beauty and maturity of the music and the unreal musicianship is just... magic ! And y'all talked about Gregg.... definitely one of the very best ever! He was *21 or 22* when this was recorded - unbelievable ! Check out his performance on "Whipping Post" from that album - it's absolutely legendary ! Great video my guys ! Thanks for showing love to the Allman Brothers Band !
Great Southern rockers. I live in NYC and they play the Beacon Theater every year to a PACKRD house. That's Duane Allman (RIP). Listen to his slide guitar on "Blue Sky". "Midnight Rider"..... unreal.
YES! Keep them coming! You gotta see Don’t keep me wondering live at Fillmore East 1970 AND In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Live 1970🔥 - these are both Live videos aswell
This is a great version of a blues song recorded by several blues artists in the 60's, Elmore James & Sonny Boy Williamson. The Allmans really expanded the sound of the original.
Not sure if anyone is aware that this video footage has nothing to do with the fillmore east shows. most of this footage was shot after Duane died except Obviously the clips of Duane playing. This version was recorded in June 1971 at the Fillmore East (closing night). The Allman Brothers were the last band to ever play at the Fillmore
I understand your love for Gregg Allman. His voice is legendary. Check out his Gregg Allman Tour Live at Carnegie Hall, "Turn On Your Lovelight." I was so privileged to have been at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA for the kickoff on that tour. Duane called him "the blue-singingest white boy in the world."
The ABB are special, having 2 of the greatest guitarists trading licks with Greag on keyboards & vocals and that smokin’ rhythm section. The Grateful Dead, the other of the 2 best jam bands, also employed 2 drummers beginning in 1967. You really should listen to the entire Love at Fillmore East LP, then Europe ‘72 by the Grateful Dead. Love your reactions. ✌️❤️🎶
Absolutely THE most famous Coricidin bottle ever to make music on a guitar players' finger!!! And the groove played by Dickey and the rest of the band...awesome!
So, right before the pandemic hit, l was fortunate enough to see the Betts and Allman Brothers band which is the offspring of the original band and let me tell you, l felt like l was watching the original Allman Brothers band and l've seen them a few times back in the days. They were sooo good that l would definitely go see them again, l'm having a blast watching you guys, keep it going ✌️🥰
Love the Allman Bros and love you're loving them. As far as the double drummers goes, the Grateful Dead were first with that with Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart. Went to a few concerts in the late 60s and many, many of them in the 70s. Saw the Dead several times live but never got to see the Allman Bros live. Would have loved to! ✌❤ PS Duane Allman was guitarist on the left playing slide, Dickie Betts with the dark brown hair on the right. ✌
Grateful Dead started out as a 1 drummer band then added Mickey to the band. Allmans were formed during a jam session which had 2 drummers & because of the amazing chemistry that happened in that room that day, Duane formed his band & invited his brother Gregg to come be their lead singer & songwriter. It just so happened that Dickey was a songwriter too! Allman Brothers fell upon the 2 drummer idea without copying Grateful Dead. The 2 bands sound & playing styles were quite different too. Both were improvisational, but so different. Allman bros were the ultimate fusion band of all styles fused together imo.
Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, James Brown and some others used two drummers before The Allman Bros. did. To the best of my knowledge though, none of them made it a regular thing. I saw Steely Dan in '74 and they were using double drummers then. Great show too! Saw the Allmans around then too, but Dwane and Berry were gone by then and I was disappointed by the new band's sound. In retrospect, it was an awesome assembly of talent. The "Wash the Windows..." live album was from that tour. It's okay. Steely Dan should release a big collection of their live shows from the '70s. Excellent band, live and in the studio.
I was lucky to see him in Hollywood get this award before he passed. Gregg Allman received the Living Legend award at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour ceremony on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Avalon in Hollywood. Previous recipients of the award include Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Lemmy, Jimmy Page and Alice Cooper.

Back then, it was all about Duane. Gregg was almost an afterthought for most fans. I'm so happy y'all recognize his talents.
Cher sure noticed Gregg's talent...🤓
Gregg was never an afterthought; the man wrote the songs, played keyboard and sang. I love his singing COME AND GO BLUES playing acoustic in 1981.
Blues, Rock, Folk, Jazz, Country, Gospel, R&B, Bluegrass, Western Swing...stir them all together and you've got Southern Rock...
Southern Rock is basically a blues rock, country blend. So when some people say it's blues rock and others say southern rock, they're both right.
I bought this double album back in 1971 when it came out. I remember having friends over and CRANKING IT UP. It was the first band, that I recall, to have TWO DRUMMERS and TWO LEAD GUITARISTS. This band had it all. Gregg Allmans vocals were simply great.
One Way Out wasn’t on the Fillmore East album, they stuck it on the Eat a Peach album.
One of the best live bands of my generation!!!
And this is a live performance "Allman Brothers Band - Come On In My Kitchen" the Rhythm & Blues duo Delaney and Bonnie recorded the song in an acoustic medley with Duane Allman on Dobro, released on their 1971 album "Motel Shot" RIP: Duane, Gregg, Berry, and Butch 🔥💔🙏 U R Missed
another tragic fact is that on Nov. Wonderful reaction guys thanks so much for sharing
🎶💖🎸🎸
I read Greg's autobiography. There was a black man in his town which helped him learn to play guitar and sing. I don't know when he learned to play the organ. But he plays guitar also.
The ABB was final act to close the Legendary Filmore Easr on NYC. Thank you Bill Graham for you vision in helping the ABB reach the successes they had.
I was lucky enough to have seen them 3 times in the 90's in Birmingham Alabama and the boys could freaking rock
You guys are enjoyable to watch. I was lucky enough to see these guys in concert over a dozen times and they were something special.
All man Bros were a "genre" of their own❤❤❤❤
🙏RIP GREG & DUANE🙏❤❤❤❤
You nailed it brother!
And Berry and Butch
I subscribed to your channel once I saw you guys doing one of my favorite songs! The original ABB as seen here were good as there ever was in my opinion!
The song One Way Out was originally done by Sonny Boy Williamson, a famous blues man from years back. So this is a cover of Sonny’s song.
Allman Brothers are an amazing talented band!
The best live album of all time! Brothers - Fillmore East. Pure Music Pleasure.
You guys are so fun to watch learn about our “old” music. Being 14 in 1975 was the greatest time on Earth for a teenager with all the music coming out in this era and even a few years before! I wouldn’t want to have been born in any other time frame, at least music wise!
The best southern boogie band ever. Duane's slide guitar is torch'n it.
This song still gives me the chills
The Blues had a baby and they called it rock n roll.
Greg was by far the most soulful white vocalist ever. Some will tell you it's Joe Cocker, others might try to convince you it's Rod Stewart, it's neither. It's Greg Allman and no oneo else sounds like him or even comes close. RIP Greg.
Gregg all the way!
Stevie Ray Vaughan deserves mention as well.
No argument here. Rod Stewart? Nah. Gregg is #1.
You can leave out the "white", can't you? CAN'T YOU?
The Holy Trio of Southern Rock is Lynard Skynard, Little Feat, & The Allman Bros. Band.
Skynard leans into the Metal and Blues sound.
Little feat is Funk and Country Phychadelic Rock & The Allmans are heavy into the Blues side 💙 side of Rock with a lot of open Phychadelic jams.
This is one of the greatest songs ever! The opening & the entire beat is absolutely perfect!
Allman brothers greatest jam band ever
Statesboro Blues
Ain't Wasting Time No More
Worried Down With The Blues ✌🤘♥️
The Allman brothers are the greatest southern rock band of all time, no contest!!
Greatest band period
The Grateful Dead were the first rock band to have 2 drummers, though it was James Brown’s band that was the first to bring 2 drummers to the R&B/Funk world. Thanks for playing this!❤
Rest in peace Gregg Allman and Dwayne Allman
Most underrated band in history. So damn good!!
Duane died at 24. I think Fillmore he was 22 . Greg was 19. 20. They were country kids who grew up with gospel, country, bluegrass. Duane was playing with the stars at 17. Just think is They could have 3 or for more years with Duane.
Southern Comfort 🌻
The entire album at Fillmore East is fantastic. I’m a diehard fan even meeting. You would love STORMY MONDAY and another suggestion is IT’S NOT MY CROSS TO BEAR. They have a huge catalog to explore. My 2nd visit to your channel. ✌️
Might I add, they were a jam band meaning they would jam for 2 to 3 hours.
Looked this up for another taste. RIP to the great Dickey Betts who passed away today. Hope all the brothers are jamming in heaven now. 😢
The "Other Guy " is Dickie Betts...awesome guitrarist
RIP Dickey Betts! 💔🎶🍄
The Allman Brothers are their own genre. You say "Allman Brothers" you are saying GREAT!!
RIP Dickey Betts... Gone but never forgotten
Our iconic Southern rock. Love this band. ❤
Great Southern rockers. I live in NYC and they play the Beacon Theater every year to a PACKRD house.
That's Duane Allman (RIP). Listen to his slide guitar on "Blue Sky".
"Midnight Rider"..... unreal.
YES! Keep them coming! You gotta see Don’t keep me wondering live at Fillmore East 1970 AND In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Live 1970🔥 - these are both Live videos aswell
boz scaggs 'Loan me a dime' with duane allman on guitar will blow your mind
Dickey Betts is criminally underrated guitarist.
PS
Duane Allman was guitarist on the left playing slide, Dickie Betts with the dark brown hair on the right. ✌
Absolutely yes.....saw Little Feat open for Greg Allman 2000 ....all good. Thanks.
Fellas, it's Fillmore EAST! Lower East Side in Manhattan.
Y’all quickly becoming my favorite reactors.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a Hammond B-3 organ Gregg is playing.
(Gotta love those Leslie speakers!)
Greg Allman once said “Southern rock is like saying rock rock. Rock-n-roll was born in the south.”
The Fillmore East was in NYC.
Statesboro Blues, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, I could go on and on....
Just Subscribed... I watch A lot of Reaction Videos.... This was the Best Ive Ever Seen... By Far!!! Well Done... Thank You....
