When it comes to The Allman Brothers, the live version is ALWAYS the right version 😊 I would recommend that you react to Whipping Post next, and the version from this exact concert is incredible!
Duane Allman, the slide guitarist, is the person that talked Wilson Pickett into covering The Beatles Hey Jude when he was a session guitarist in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
You were born to late, brother. Man you should have been around in the 70's. I saw the Allman Brother's 4 times. Twice when Duane was still alive. You have an old soul. Props to recognizing GOOD music.
I saw them twice in 1974. once in ATL at the Omni. The second show was in Macon, GA. The show in Macon was better. They moved to Macon and always showed out when they played in Macon. Unfortunately Duane had got killed in a motorcycle accident before then and I never got to see him.
I was fortunate enough to have seen The Allman Brothers Band 35 times, though not old enough to have seen them with Duane. They were the best band in America, bar none! I wish that I could see them another 35, or so, times...
@@dannycasson1551 Every one was as good as the last one! Seeing Warren Haynes go to battle with Dickey Betts or Derek Trucks, Dickey on stage with Dan Toler, Derek, or Jack Pearson, etc. Every line up they had was top flight. Gregg Allman was the best white blues singer in the land. They were inspiring and uplifting every time out. Very few bands play a different set each night of their stand and never leave you feeling like you missed anything. I made sure to catch both, or all three nights, how many times they played in my area. The live footage available provides partial proof of their ability as a live band.
As a guy who was a kid obsessed with classic rock in the late 90s/2000s (and still am I just mean when I was very young) you are the kinds cat I was hoping to meet in a bar and go "omg you've been to mecca? Please tell me everything" lol
@@midkingsteve With me it would have been the people who were about ten to fifteen years older than me. The ones who saw Hendrix, Cream, The Doors, Janis, Peter Green, etc.
Bro I just getting addicted to your reactions! Your background is Hip Hop and now you are experiencing my life’s soundtracks of IMO the best music ever produced, Classic Rock! And your digging it! When the music and lyrics were written by the band and when the music was played in real instruments by the band. Nobody writing music or lyrics for them. No canned computer bullshit pumping out the music. Think for a moment this was all done by young men in their late teens and twenties! Keep the flame lit! You are one of the messengers for today’s youth that their is some killer music out there they have NEVER be exposed too!
I have watched your reaction to this song several times. I have also watched many other people's reaction. Many did not understand what was happening in the song, which means their reaction was not spot on. I will give you credit because you were paying attention, and you understood the song from the very beginning.
this album is one of the best ever by anyone, the next song I personally would recommend is in memory of elizabeth reed, which is quite possibly the greatest thirteen minutes in rock history.
This was recorded at the Filmore East, but not during the Live at Fillmore East sessions. It was recorded later on the closing night of the place, and appeared on Eat A Peach.
And Gregg wrote that at 20! 😎😎 I think it was his first. His autobiography is indispensable for a fan, so much history, stories, explanations, etc. Berry's playing to start that song is legendary !!
he helped others learn slide and the whole band were masters. I don't think you'll find a "tighter band sound, and all those different instruments, genre's, etc.
Allman Brothers band is arguably the best live band ever. You can never go wrong listening/watching them live. Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country. They had it all.
The Allman Brothers set the standard for southern blues rock. Two world-class guitars, two world-class drummers, elite keyboards and vocals. You've got a lot to choose from
Blues + rock + country = southern rock. The Allman Bros invented it and were just the tightest band out there. So, so good. I got to pay my respects to their graves in Macon, GA. 🙏🏼
I grew up listening to the Allman bros saw them live 1972 this is the best live album ever Thanks for sharing it to a new generation still sounds great
I have been watching your reactions for awhile now, and I truly appreciate you taking the time and reaching out over some divides that seemed to separate us as people for far too long. I'm from Jersey City and I grew up with a lot of black friends. It was always so difficult to get them to listen to the music I was. They genuinely thought that they weren't supposed to listen to rock or country. So thanks for listening, you obviously are an open minded dude, who has a lot to share with people
Saw the Allman Brothers in KC at Municipal Auditorium. Later on, saw Greg Allman in an intimate setting standing at his Baby Grand piano a night to remember. I've never been without the Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore East. Southern Fried Rock.
I went to see these guys for the first time in 1974 my older brother pulled up in a hippy van and told me get in! My mom was screaming out the front door he's too young!!!! Hahaha Roosevelt stadium great great show!
That version was on the Filmore East Live album dated 1971. Lead guitar is Dickie Betts. Slide guitar is Duane Allman. His younger brother Gregg is Keyboards and Lead Vocals. He is VERY BLUESY. That was the summer of '71. In October 1971, Duane was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a peach truck. The band decided to stay together and in the spring of '72 put out the next album called "Eat a Peach". Another great Blues song on the filmore album is Stormy Monday.
Allman Brothers is one of very few bands that I will say live vs studio doesn’t matter much because they are both so well done you don’t miss anything.
You react to live versions, which to me is the best versions. Any band can play in the studio, but to really rip it up on stage shows how truly good a band is.
There's more than 40 years worth of material from this band, the best in the world. A cover song from Sonny Boy Williamson. This audio comes from their album, 'Eat a Peach'. It was recorded on closing the doors night for the Fillmore East in New York City. The video is mixed from different shows there. My favorite version is from a 6 cd set, released a while back, recorded in March 1971 there. It features some harmonica work by Thom (Ace) Doucette, who wasn't a member of the band, but a free-lance player and friend that played lots of shows with the band. This is a road you could stay on for a long time. As they say, "the road never ends". 😉
I love slide guitar! Duanne slays it. Sometimes people get together and make music. It's almost magical how they work together and create goosebump freakin songs. The Allman Bros, Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who and so many more.
Saw the Allman Bros 3 times live..always always always an experience. They were tight and oh my, Greg's voice and Duane's slide skills...nothing like it since then!
@Abracadabra 303 The singer (Greg Allman) is the younger brother of the guitarist that was playing slide guitar in this video (Duane Allman). Duane died in a motorcycle accident in my hometown of Macon, Georgia back in 1971 at the age of 24 and is buried there alongside his bandmate, bass player Berry Oakley. Berry also died in a motorcycle accident just a year after Duane's wreck, and actually only a few blocks from where Duane had his accident. In 2003 Duane was ranked #2 in Rolling Stone's 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

The original "At Fillmore East " album was recorded from a series of shows played on March 12 and 13 of 1971. This version of "One Way Out" was recorded at the very last concert ever performed at The Fillmore East on June 27th 1971. There is absolutely no studio version of this song on any album of The Allman Brothers. If you buy the original "At Fillmore East" album to get this song you will not get it.

Statesboro Blues
You're right: the song is flawless. And Gregg Allman's voice ... ...
You can never go wrong with the Allman Bros live. They’re one of those bands that’s even better live than studio
If I had a time machine first thing I'd do is go to this show man.. and redo it about 100 times
"In memory of Elizabeth Reed" is a good one too, along with "Jessica" and "Melissa".
I concur with all three of those songs. First song I learned in my bass guitar was the bass line from "Melissa"
Critically acclaimed as one of the THE BEST LIVE ALBUMS of all time. 1971 LIVE at the Fillmore East.
Gosh I miss The Allman Brothers, but I really miss Greg and Duane..
Explosive guitar playing by Duane “Skydog” Allman and Dickey Betts.
Given the choice with the Allman Brothers - ALWAYS go with the live version!!
Duane Allman, the slide guitarist, is the person that talked Wilson Pickett into covering The Beatles Hey Jude when he was a session guitarist in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Did the "Weight",with Aretha Franklin. Muscle Shoals rules.
There is no studio version of this song by the Allmans ... This is the hit take ...
Duane Allman could tear that guitar up with that slide. RIP Duane. And Gregg Allman's soulful voice and piano playing .....just awesome.
Organ was his main keyboard
This comes from their At Fillmore East (Live) album and it's an absolute MUST HAVE for any collector!!
This song is from the Eat a Peach album but it was recorded at the Fillmore East
