My dad was in the Air Force in the mid 70s working at the base hospital. I don’t recall if it was a guy he knew from his side job at a local hospital or a civilian working at the hospital on base, but either way, the dude was Jaimoe’s cousin. He got my dad and a couple friends into the concert and they watched them perform from behind the stage. Unfortunately it was after Duane and Barry died, but still... I can’t imagine how awesome that must have been.

Named two Daughters after songs by the Allman Brothers ... Melissa & Jessica ... My favorite group of all time, in my opinion there is none better ... Long Live Southern Rock
Great to hear the band lives on, there truly was a breakthrough in rock music whenever they took the stage. Two drummers, two lead guitarists and great vocals. They were the favorites of Tom Dowd, distinguished recording engineer and Bill Graham, owner of Fillmore East, the legendary rock auditorium. They were musicians’ musicians whose live performances were as good or better than their studio work.
Dude, I am so glad that you have been introduced to the greatness that is the Alloman Brothers.BTW, this song was first done by blues legend Elmore James then later by Sonny Boy Williamson II. If you get a chace check out their vwersion of the Blind Willie McTell classsic "Statesboro Blues"While check both of thosew out see if you can find miss Rory Block's version of it.
This is THE version of THE song that made me want to play lead guitar. I dabbled with trying to play before that, but mostly simple radio rock stuff. This song opened up the possibilities for me. Dickey's first solo on this still gives me goosebumps. His playing is stellar, and the tone is hot enough to fry an egg on those pickups! They remain my favorite band. Try out Black Hearted Woman, album version.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant dedicated their iconic song/anthem "Freebird" to the legendary Duane Allman on slide guitar. His brother Greg is the vocalist. R.I P
6'5" - Another great Allman Bros song!! I think your getting the majesty of the ABB in their prime right here. Gotsa, gotsa do Elizabeth Reed real soon.
my lawd ... I lived through this period of music ... I [ and all of the " I's " that were young along with me that make up the " we " ] were blown away by what we heard, but hearing these amazing songs and bands/singers through these " Reaction Videos " channels is rebirthing the Reaction I had back then. We were spoiled rotten with the abundance of gifted musicians who graced the airwaves with their mind-blowing talent. Witnessing the exuberant reaction of the " kids " who are on these channels is a pleasure. But I was instrumental personally in the introduction of " our " music to a teenager back in the early 90's. My girlfriend's younger brother heard THE music while riding along with me in my car, or while visiting me at home. He immediately loved it and told his friends about it. They started buying classic rock CDs. Well one day I walked into my house from work. As I was approaching my bedroom in the hallway, this teen [ a friend of the brother who I had not yet met ] came running up to me. He grabbed my hand, shaking it rapidly while thanking me for turning Mark [ my girlfriend's brother ] on to " that great music ", and in turn bringing it to him. You'd have thought the guy had just won the lottery. This shows the power of music, not that any of us need to be told that.
It's good to remember that the one guitarist Eric Clapton wanted to play in a supergroup with after his last supergroup, Cream, was finished was Duane Allman. For people who really know guitar, he is high up there in the all time best guitarists lists. So they formed Derek and the Dominoes, there was no Derek in the band, it was a combination of their first names; Duane and Eric. Even though Eric Clapton plays the solo riffs in Layla after Duane died, Eric has said that Duane played them on the studio album.
I'm a 72 yr. old white many that's been digging the blues for 60 yrs.. Allman bros. have been one of my favorites for ever. Whipping post is one of my favorites, Stormy Monday has been done by just about everyone in the blues world but the Allman bros. do it maybe the best in my opinion. Greg was married to Cher for a very short time. The first time I heard One Way Out I was sitting on a bus going to Army boot camp in 1965 and I was sitting next to a black guy whom I had made friends with and he was playing this song but it was by a black artist.

The Breeze was written by J. J. Cale. It was one of very few cover tunes Skynyrd ever recorded. I'm not sure one way or the other, but it may have been their only recorded and regularly-played cover. Not bustin' anyone's chops here about authorship, just trying to give credit where credit is due. I love Skynyrd's cover of Mr. Breeze. Never even heard Cale (or any other big-name artist) perform it, but I do know J. J. Cale wrote it.

"Statesboro Blues" and "Don't Keep Me Wonderin' " (the live versions) should be next. RIP Duane, Greg, Butch, and Berry. Dickie Betts and Jamoe, may you live forever.
Lucky you.
I saw them in College, when they just dropped their first album. They blew everyone away !!! After hearing them, I fell in love with the Band, and the South, and moved to Georgia forthwith. The Brothers Forever ❣️
@@RodFerroIGB Sweet! Once in a while life tosses you a bone.
Amen. I saw ABB many times also when Duane was alive, twice a the Byron festival, they played first and last. Back then Statesboro
One way out and statesboro blues: the tone from straight Marshall amps, Les Paul guitars and Dickie/Duanes left hands is unmatched
Art like that cannot be made with anything less than 2 drummers.
@@robertkennett4622 I heard Duane wanted two drummers because Jimi had two.
What a band!Stones and Allman Brothers will be my go to sounds till they lay my body down!
How about the Allman Brothers “Statesboro Blues”
Blind Willie McTell.
That's the one -- my favourite of all their great songs
SB & In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, my 2 favorite Allman Brothers tunes.
It's sad that no one makes music like this as much anymore. It was a special time for music creation.
BlackBerry smoke is doing pretty good
Check out drummer Butch Trucks’ genius nephew, Derek Trucks on slide guitar.
Boz Scaggs and Duane Allman - Loan Me a Dime 🔥🔥🔥
Greatest live recording ever.
I saw tyhem not long after.on Boston Commons 8/17/71 - One of my all time favorite concerts. Absolutely incredible.
As a black woman I LOVE the Allman Brother and Gregg. Greggs voice is incredible and his talent is undeniable. I've got at least 45 or more of their songs in my apple library. I love them soooo much and miss Gregg. His book was incredible too! I've read it 3 times. Gregg,Duane,Berry and Butchie are gone, but they're greatly missed.
I'm so glad you reacted to this one. It's my favorite Allman Brothers song in creation!
Love Allman Brothers. Statesboro Blues. The slide guitar player was Duane Allman, who was a good friend of Eric Clapton. If you want something amazing, check out Derek and the Dominoes performing Layla. You will love it.
Jamel - thanks for the selection! The ABB was great at building emotion through their music. And you can't beat the blues.
I’ve got tinnitus from going up front and listening to this wonderful medicine…this is still the best jam bands ever to play southern rock!
Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant dedicated their iconic song/anthem "Freebird" to the legendary Duane Allman on slide guitar. His brother Greg is the vocalist. R.I P
Eat a Peach album was for Duane Allman who was on a motorcycle and was hit and killed by a peach truck. RIP Duane
6'5" - Another great Allman Bros song!! I think your getting the majesty of the ABB in their prime right here. Gotsa, gotsa do Elizabeth Reed real soon.
Greg and Duane Allman. RIP 💔
Sadly, Dickey Betts and Jaimoe are the only two still alive from this original line up of the ABB.
& Berry Oakley
Gregg Allman one of the best rock and roll singers EVER
Ronnie van Zant was better but both great. Greg Allman was mentored by his brother.
I was in my 20’s and hearing it now in my 70’s I still love this 👵❤️🎼
All of Eat A Peach...but you know what..." PONY BOY " is still one of my favorites.
A good one is In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. I have several of their albums on vinyl.
Duane and Gregg Allman. Dickey Betts. Jaimoe. Butch. Berry Oakley.
🔥The best without a doubt🔥
I am glad you discovered the Allman Brothers
THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - REVIVAL !!! You'll be hooked for sure! People can you feel it? LOVE IS IN THE AIR!
Live at Fillmore East, a must listen the whole way through.
I can't wait to see you do their song "Ain't wastin' time no more" and then you say your usual "alright we ain't gonna waste no more time". 😆
Steve Trowbridge clever 😆
My thought exactly!
That song always pops into my mind when he says that.
It's like were hearing it for the first time through him, right?
It's good to remember that the one guitarist Eric Clapton wanted to play in a supergroup with after his last supergroup, Cream, was finished was Duane Allman. For people who really know guitar, he is high up there in the all time best guitarists lists. So they formed Derek and the Dominoes, there was no Derek in the band, it was a combination of their first names; Duane and Eric. Even though Eric Clapton plays the solo riffs in Layla after Duane died, Eric has said that Duane played them on the studio album.
Nonsense. They debuted as Derek and the Dominoes weeks before they met Duane. And Clapton wanted anything but a supergroup after Blind Faith.
Dickey Betts is right there with him.
He was one of Duane's favorite guitarists.
My absolute favorite band of all time...I’m glad you found them! 😁 you have to do “ Statesboro Blues!” That will make your eyes roll in your head! It’s the greatest !
You should dive into more of this genre with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Call Me The Breeze” live from the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975!
Nah. "T For Texas," live at Knebworth 1976.
"Don't let that flag hit the ground."
@Nathan Brown @Joe Day both are just awesome!!!
Definitely
The Breeze was written by J. J. Cale. It was one of very few cover tunes Skynyrd ever recorded. I'm not sure one way or the other, but it may have been their only recorded and regularly-played cover.
Not bustin' anyone's chops here about authorship, just trying to give credit where credit is due. I love Skynyrd's cover of Mr. Breeze. Never even heard Cale (or any other big-name artist) perform it, but I do know J. J. Cale wrote it.
@@BluesStringer1955 i saw JJ do that song in NYC with an Okie who had been telling me about him for a while! It was amazing and we went to see Traffic but I kept JJ a secret until we approached the venue. Ben was so thrilled RIP BTO jr
Hey Jamel... No way I'm missing a live Allman Brothers tune from the best live album ever ! 😎🎹 😆🎸
Great song but my favorite is......
Midnight Rider ! (Request #1)
Request #2:
Got another set of brothers playing a sweet azz funky tune !
Enough talent for 2 or 3 bands... this one is unbelievable 😉
Johnny and Edgar Winter -
Tobacco Road ! 🎷😎 🎙 😆🎸

( Love the channel man.... all the best ) ✌😎
This was obviously a video of clips put together as opposed to actual footage of this show.
This is the good stuff, tho, man. So awesome.
True
Possibly the greatest southern, blues rock line-up of all time. These guys were fan-fucking-tastic!
It's so nice to see that the Allman Brothers are still making new fans in 2020. The Brothers have been my main band since 1970. Alas time has taken all of the original bandmates except Jai Johnny and Dickie Betts. Many others that played with the band have also sadly passed on. One thing that will remain forever though is the music.
For more awesome funky southern rock: Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Gimme Back My Bullets"
That is my favorite song of theirs! 😄
