- This year's modelmaking mash-up challenge at the WonderFest scale modelmaking convention asked builders to imagine if Star Trek's Galileo shuttlecraft existed in other pop culture franchises, and the entries did not disappoint! From Star Wars shuttle hybrids to fantastical designs inspired by Ghostbusters, Battlestar: Galactica, and even Jaws, here are some of our favorites from the show!

Thanks for watching!
#modelmaking #props - Наука та технологія
That Gilligan's island shuttle was such a wild idea
The professor has been busy.
I was one of the builders of that giant shuttle bay model! We designed it as 1/24th around the Randy Cooper shuttle model design, but at that size, 1/24th and 1/32 is so close in dimension that it really doesn't make a lot of difference.
That shuttle bay model is 6 feet long and just under 4 feet wide. Most of the colors on it are laminate, and as such, designed to be highly durable, which is why we opened the model up to photography for anybody with a shuttle.
Congrats! You did a good thing.
The shuttle bay is amazing. Do you know if there is a photo gallery anywhere with the shuttles parked inside?
I made the Mouse Droid Shuttle. Thanks for the great video Norm!
Great Greeblies, that was a cool build
@@Billionth_KevinThank you! It was a lot of fun!
The Mouse Droid was the first shuttle in the shuttle bay for pics!
Very creative idea!
Great concept and work!
In 1995 (possibly before many of Adam’s fans were born) I sat down with my tattoo artist and created one of my favorite tattoos. It’s the Enterprise from STTNG being escorted by two X-Wings that are actively firing on a Klingon Bird of Prey swooping around a still under construction Death Star. It’s a piece that starts at my elbow and covers my upper arm, and my shoulder blade.
Thanks to this video I feel completely validated nearly 30 years later.
We need pics!! Sounds epic!
I second that motion ❤
@@CNC-Time-Lapse I’m down to share! But how?? Maybe I can have someone make a little video tomorrow and I’ll post a “short”? I’m not very tech savvy as can see by current videos. I don’t know how to make pictures readily available for you guys to see.
Klingon Bird of Prey / X-wing or B-Wing merger would be great.
Must see 👍
Oscar Mayer Weiner shuttle would have been hilarious
Demerit badge idea: cluttered workspace
Or a BTTF Delorean!
What Happens When Star Wars and Star Trek Combine? Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!
That's why you never cross the streams...
I understood that reference.
My favorite part in Star Wars was when Kirk flew into the Battlestar.
@@juliuscheng5788 Total protonic reversal!
ALIENS
Those are some impressive "what if" shuttles. As for a suggestion for the full bundle of patches, "Failed Successfully Bundle"
I was going back and forth between Tested videos of Star Trek and Star Wars yesterday. This is 1000% in my wheelhouse. I would love to see more of this!
Jokes aside, lovely models.
THERE WERE JOKES??????????
@@nicktipton5675 I meant the other comments
My favorite kind of modeling 😂❤ that Battlestar Galactica shuttle is the clear winner 🏆
the BSG model was not part of the competition. The ZAT Rabbit Panda from Ultraman by Robb Merrill was the mashup winner.
The videos from this convention have been terrific. Thank you to everyone for sharing, and for the channel producing the content.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a kind comment!
The Enterprise's hanger - mind blown! Loved it.
Glad you liked it!! Took us a few months to build. The exterior that sits overhead was made just for WonderFest. The shuttle bay itself was made as a filming model, and is modular, so once the cover is off, you can set the shuttle bay up to shoot from all directions except up through the floor.. (although, you *could* technically do it). There is a closed door and an open door, and they can be switched out in less than 5 minutes.
@@scottlyttle5586 Dude, it's wonderful! I hope you have some video of the team building it. If not, I'm dying to see a showcase video with all those shuttles. Again, well done!
I was waiting for someone to do a Mystery Machine version.
Good call! I was just thinking the same thing.
@@modelermark172 Scooby II: the Wrath of Khanival owner
Star trek and star wars combined sounds like Mass Effect. Psuedo-hard science with space wizards, unique aliens, and a crew of a ship.
I've been playing through Mass Effect for the first time and I can't disagree with you.
Three series that focus on the Enterprise. Three games that focus on Shepard. First is great, second is different but great in its own way, third one had issues and is divisive in the fan base.
GAL356 is basically Star Tours on steroids
Did no body do a red dwarf starbug one 😭😭😭😭
You get Star Wreck!
Where can I see the photo gallery of the shuttles?
Seconding this.
I like the Galactica one!
I’m so bummed I didn’t get to go this year again! I was really looking forward to seeing all the models and “casually” running into Norm!😂
Fantastic video! I love the wonderful variety of pure imagination on display here!
I honestly cannot pick a single favorite. They are simply, ALL AMAZING!
I must admit though, the "Ghost Busters" shuttle craft, and the "Spaceballs" shuttle craft, and the "Gilligan's Island" shuttle craft, really made me smile.
Awesome work, guys! They are all truly, works of art! Watching this was a genuine delight.
All respect! Peace! 🍻✌
I have to say, those are amazing, all of them, but the top three to me are the Galactica one, the darker Galium shuttle (greeblies win over smooth and clean TOS look, in my beholder's eye), and the tracked rover. As you say, all of them are shelf-worthy.
All of these are fantastic! I really like the lighter of the Star Wars build. It nailed that concept model design and bonus mashes it up with the T-16.
What a "Hoot" I enjoyed all the ideas and about fell out of my chair when I saw the Gilligan's Island idea. For anyone who can't afford a real space craft/shuttle there is plenty of bamboo and burlap to be had locally. Nice job everyone.
For reasons still unknown to me, I never got into Star Trek, but I thought it would’ve been way fun to go to that Galactic Starcruiser hotel at Disney and participated in the roleplaying part while wearing a Starfleet uniform. Act really confused about terminology and how different pieces of technology work.
I love everything about this convention. So great seeing a group of people just having fun with a shared interest.
Thank you for having such great shots of the models.
That blend of Ralph McQuarrieness in the 60-80's sci-fi style has such verisimilitude, since all the sci-fi artists from that time played by the same book. Trek has more chunk while Wars has more slender, edgedness to it. I could see how they could have manifested in many a crossover.
Demerit badge for us programmers out there:
Null Reference Exception
A HR Giger Alien shuttle.
Where the hell is the Knight Rider Shuttle??? :D
In your desk?
Make it so
If I wasn't busy building the shuttle bay, I might have made an Airwolf mashup..
@@scottlyttle5586sneak in a Shuttlecraft/Delorean and next year suggest a Enterprise Saucer/Millennium Falcon
Lots of good mods/mashups for ST shuttles. 😁 Demerit badge bundle name idea: "10 LB Demerits in 5 LB Bag"
The merit badge super pack should be called “The Professor Demeritus”
!!!!
Those models were really awesome but what really kept sparking my interest was that box of light saber hilts... please tell me you’re going to do a video about those!
Hi, sorry to interrupt your comment thread but I design lightsabers using Blender 3D and have about 600 pages of designs from all corners of Star Wars and other pop culture inspirations including some Star Trek themed hilts (such as an NCC-1701 engine nacelle saber and a USS Franklin transporter room saber). I can't add a link but my site is named FTSabersite if you're interested in taking a look. Thanks and sorry once again.
Ohhh what a contest!! Some awesome modes and the shuttle bay is unreal.
The shuttle bay is available to see if you are in the Atlanta GA area. Built by the talented @MattGreen and @ScottLyttle at Magic Film Company!
Amazing to think of how many positive inspiration and influences in those models and for the merit badge’s, there’s lots of room for originality from us.
I love this. Great crossovers/mashups. And having John Eaves judge the work -- perfect!
Absolutely fantastic models the mash up between star wars , star trek and Battlestar galactica are simply just soo good
This is like the model equivalent to that shirt that says The Cure yet has the album cover of Unknown Pleasures on it. 😂
I love all the models! Great work.
Eaton is a legend
what a creativity. Awesome to see all those models!
What happens when Star Wars and Startreck combine ? Pocket protectors go out of stock.
When Star Wars and Star Trek combine, you get a Star Wreck.
The Mutt Cuts and Space Balls gets my vote. Someone is really creative there.
Those were all fantastic!
Love this!! Are there more videos about this kind of Mashup concepts?
Amazing competition - would be so hard to choose a winner. The creativity to make a model combined with others to look like an authentic different universe item is mind blowing 😮
Wow, I never knew this kid of stuff existed... now I have a new hobby I want to pursue I don't have time for lol
Really fun creations. Loved this.
What amazing builds. Well done to those involved what a great idea.
the Galactica mashup is CRAZY!!!
Super fun models! Would so instantly buy a matchbox size miniset of these!
I'm coming back to this video because I just saw the Dumb and Dumber Mutts Cutts shuttlecraft at my local model show! I told my daughter, "I just saw this model in a Tested video!"
Unbelievably cool ships. Love mixing franchises and characters. I'm working on a comic book that is G.I. Joe as if it was Star Wars.
The shuttles were fantastic, as for the de-merit badges..... The Over Achiever's Pack of course
Norm, good to see ya, miss the Podcast. Hope to see more other people on the show again.
From the title i was like "well, Battlestar Galactica (1978) kind of did that already" and then i saw the models and i was like "oooh, yeah that makes sense, cool stuff!"
And without joking, some of these are truly legit high quality builds that easily could've lived in either cinematic universe.
Amazing gmodelling everything looks screen ready!
Each entry was very clever; the Gilligan's Island one especially made me LOL!
The shuttle and BTTF Delorean mushup
You beat me to it. I thought of that the moment I saw the Ecto-craft
Those models are all so clean =o
Oh man, Jason Eaton! I loved his website back in the day, great to see he's still creating!
I strongly recommend the visuals of the famous Hungarian TV sci-fi series Pirx kalandjai "Tales of Pirx" from the 1970s, based on the novel by Stanislaw Lem. A Pirx shuttle would be nice. 😃
I want to see a full gallery of all these shuttles.
This was actually brilliant.
Cool creative work. Thanks for sharing. I want to go to Wonderfest.
That's some very creative work. I got a sneak-peek at the Mutz-cutz shuttle since I know the guy who built it. Of course, I'm partial, but all of them are spectacular. I look forward to hearing about next year's theme.
It says a lot about Star Wars that the shuttle needed wings to be SW. Sure, wings in space :D
The thumbnail with the close-up of the ship is much better than the first thumbnail using a wide shot
I've been looking for a model of the Firefly Serenity so I can redress it as a civilian Federation ship by putting warp nacelles on the side engines and a more Star Trek paint job. I want to see a life size version of the SS Minnow TOS shuttle mashup.
The General Lee would have been pretty easy to do, except with 1701 on the sides, instead of 01.
Love the creativity!
@1:22 The NASA Shuttle (in my humble opinion) is a kind of a nod to the SR-71 Blackbird. The Blackbird in one of it's incarnations (M-12) carried a D-21 Drone on it's back (which would be launched to fly deep into enemy territory at Mach 3.3 for photographic recon. Drop the camera system for later retrieval, then self destruct). This is what you see on that shuttle. I cannot say if that was the thought behind the model as I have nothing to do with the creation. However I am an aviation nut and if you google SR-71 D-21 Drone, you cannot miss the similarity, and therefore understand that this is most likely the scenario.
Also you can call it what you said: The "Failure is Always an Option" Collection.
Lol I do this with LEGO kits all the time- mash up themes and IPs. Recently I’ve built a mash-up of the Wall-e kit and a T-1 terminator from the third film (it’s a tracked vehicle so seemed the most appropriate choice) complete with articulated arms holding a pair of big ass mini guns!
And how did nobody do a mash up with another Star Trek species ship? Like with a Vulcan Suurok class science vessel? Or a Klingon bird of prey! ?
Or a Boeing 707 as seen in Airplane! Or even Air Force One with a tiny Harrison Ford! 😂
Nice Job Norm !
i saw that Giligan's island one in the corner of t he shot and I knew what it was....so fun!
I drew a Mystery Machine Shutterly once. It came out as a cool mash-up.
Give Norm more screen time! Love Norm!
These are absolutely ingenious!!!! 😁😄😃
BA's van concept is my favorite. Now I have to order that shuttle kit.
This is wonderful.
Respect to the Galactica Enterprise shuttle 👍
1 minute and 30 seconds in and I'm already liking the BSG, Ghostbusters, and A-Team Shuttles. The Space Balls one is good too. Glad I'm not a judge, I don't know if I could pick one as best. Someone should have made a Knight Rider KITT Shuttle.
I absolutely love and lol at the Ecto and LoneStar Winnebago and would likely pick one of those as Star Wars is just so expected. But, I am amazed at the craftsmanship of the Galactica and (to our left) Imperial Shuttlecraft.
Next, if you are going to merge the two "Stars", I want to see a crossing of the Enterprise (Constellation or Galaxy class) with the Falcon.
Flipped upside down and turned dark brown, looks like the Jawa sandcrawler...
Love how I knew blappys before they said anything. Without ever having seen it.
Blappy was all " don't judge it, it's not finished".. I saw those colors and knew the Gulf racing idea immediately!
Infinite diversity creates Infinite possibilities. Dang those sweet rides.
they were amazing.
Is there some way, short of going to the convention, of seeing them all?
Would love to see them and an explanation of what the mash ups are.

5) Battlestar Galactica (Jason Eaton)
6) Jaws (also Jason)

8) A(way)-Team
9) Spaceballs (Eagle 5)
10) Aliens
11) Star Wars Tydirium #1
12) Star Wars Tydirium #2
13) Star Wars (with Vader Wings)
14) Gulf racer
15) Ultraman
16) Herbie the Love Bug
17) X-15
18) Space: 1999 Lunar Tank
19) Space: 1999 Eagle
20) Thunderbird 4
21) Star Tours
Thanks for the list.
Very much appreciated.
What a great idea and I’m a fan of neither!
Star Trek Wars or the Star Wars Trek
- Futurama: YOU CAN'T PROVE IT WONT HAPPEN!
ah...a Planet Express shuttle....dang...that would have been something!!
This is great! We need to get more comfortable with mash-ups; they're a great way to inspire the "Next Generation" of content creators (the pun was a happy accident!).
Re. 24-pack of De-Merit Badges: you could call it the:
-Eagle Maker's Collection
-De-Merit Completist Pack
-One for Every Maker in Your Life (Including Yourself!) Gift Set
Ok, maybe that last one is better suited as being part of the product description. Feel free to use!
I love when fans frankenbash together two, or more, classic sci-fy franchises.
A cluster of demerit badges.
Nice. Maybe not to this degree, but I've been slooooowly working on Sci-fi show/model mashups. No idea that there is a competition, I'll have to add this 'con to the others I was considering (when I complete them in 112 years).
"You were right about everything, OK?
Except...
the Galileo (NCC-1701/7), James.
What ship took them all to Gilligan's lsland? The Galileo (NCC-1701/7).
No points this round, James."
Sooooo cool! :)
Awesome collection
the shuttle you see at 1:09 is from Battlestar Galactica (Original series)
that Zariba of All Territory vehicle from ultraman Taro is awesome!
That was the winner of the challenge.
