FINALLY a review on the 785. Besides Sean Sakinofsky using it for ultra endurance, there's almost nothing on the 785 anywhere. I recently bought a 785 Huez RS and absolutely love this bike.
True that. I was seriously considering it in the past when I wanted to transition to disc brakes and I wanted something snappy but not 'in your face' fast. The lack of genuine reviews and shared experiences is one of the reasons I have been holding off.
Hello, I'm about to click on 2023 785 rs Disk in Large. No chance of a test ride. 182cms. a bit monkey arm, 52 years. I'm worried about being between M and L. Any advise?
@@Never_unknown have you bought it yet? It's been three weeks since your entry, but maybe you'll still find some of my comments useful. Look: I'm 50 years old and have a 785 Huez RS that I built. However, I have been riding a road bike for a long time and I like a rather sporty position and fast descents. I am 183 cm and my weight during the season is 79 kg. There is only a 5mm spacer under the bridge, so it is low. The 130 long stem is practically at the very bottom (I have long arms and an inside leg of 89cm - the saddle is 79cm from the bottom bracket axis). If you don't mind front wheel overlap (the shoe catches on the tire when you turn the steering wheel) and you like sporty position, you can take M. Otherwise, I suggest L. TimeAdH: I recently also owned a Time, which has similar geometry to Look's predecessor, the 785 Huez RS. Taking into account my age and lack of plans for racing - I focused on more comfort and a quieter ride - I bought size L. Best regards and I wish you safe kilometers!
I still love my 585 even after 45000km for the same reasons you have stated here for the 785. Ride all day everyday and give you an amazing ride for years to come
I bought the previous gen, rival build of this bike two years ago as a novice. I think it's a fantastic bike that suits a wide range of riders and purpose. Beginners can increase stack and enjoy endurance geo while maintaining performance feel. More advanced riders can slam the stem and enjoy a great traning/travel setup. Really glad my LBS pointed me in this direction. Equipped with 303fc and 30c tires, this thing rips.
I kind of do because 6 years ago it came with a bb86 bottom bracket. I'm glad they changed that for T47 for this generation. Mine came with a token ninja bb but I changed it for a Rotor crankset, should've opted for a 24mm axle
@@xGshikamaru Yeah, I have had to change my Token Ninja BB86 a couple of times. They're not too expensive, and once you know where to source them and have the correct tooling, it's not too bad, but I take your point

Great video - thanks for sharing. This bike really seems to be the kind of thing that more of us should be riding - somewhere between the usual endurance and race bikes, with modern aesthetics and a T47 BB - at a reasonable price. I dont understand how this release has gone unnoticed - there doesn't seem to be any reviews or videos from anyone online. Also - it seems to be quite difficult to order the frame - the main distributor for Look in Dublin (Cycle Superstore) told me this morning that the didnt have the frame, had no idea when it would be available and was not able to back order it. They basically said that if i want it ill have to order one of the pre-built bikes but the selection was very limited. This is _very_ frustrating..
😂 My 2019 rim brake Canyon CF SL (the good Canyon as my club mates call it. Down graded from a SLX after it broke during the pandemic and Canyon couldn’t find a SLX of the right size) is still in good order. Otherwise this is the bike I will buy. Probably going to get a future version of it.
Picked up a nearly new ‘22 chameleon blue frame for £800 and I’ve loved every minute of building it up and riding it!!! Fantastic piece of engineering :))
OK, Look, you know how to make a great carbon fiber frameset. But you're missing an important part of the market by not offering a rim brake version without fully integrated cabling. Anyone who doesn't want disk brakes on a road bike -- and there are lots of us -- is not shopping Look. How is that smart? That said, the build looks really good and makes sense economically. It's just a shame I can't build a fully mechanical, externally-routed rim brake bike on a Look 765 frameset.
27.2 seat tube, not sure if there is any other bike in this category which offers this. I had to buy Endurance bike from Canyon to fit a necessary suspension seatpost, this versatility is great
Was just looking at the geometry table for the 785 on the Look website. In size XL it lists Stack 615.3mm, Reach 405.6mm but TT only 576.3mm. That doesn't sound quite right to me.
Who could have guessed that quality and French would have fitted in one sentence. Good to see that they can produce high quality bicycles that do stand out from the likes of Specialized, Cannondale and Canyon.

Thank you for another great video! It would be interesting to compare the new 785 Huez to Time AdH'23 - riding impressions, average weight of the bikes, etc.
I think the weights would be very similar. The Time maybe marginally heavier. The Time is definitely stiffer, but nothing on the market comes close really. Otherwise they are very similar. The Look would probably allow a longer stem, that would be good for shorter riders get some weight onto the front wheel.
What's your opinion about the reduced Head angle in Size S? 73 to 71.5 seems like a lot and will it impact the handling the nature of the bike massively?! Would be interested in your opinion!
The small sizes in most brands present a dilemma. I did a vid on this once. Race bikes become endurance bikes etc. Only Canyon have a good solution for this by offering 650 wheels. But then you open up a new problem of gear rations and tyres.
Would have loved to buy this frame but ended up hunting down the previous generation due to geometry - the XL in the older version (gen 2 I call it) is a 593mm tt whilst this seems to have shrunk back to 57cm. In my mind I view the 785 as 3 gens - the first is an ultralight climber, rim brake only frameset in 2017 - the build weights were unbelievable, think 5.8kg for a complete bike! I think the first gen came with 2 different BB options (Look ZED crankset specific and a BB86 - i think!). The 2nd gen (2019) gets a disc brake option, larger geometry sizes, has a press fit bb86 with an RS high modulus carbon version being introduced too. Weight in the 2nd gen increases to the 1kg mark for the frame, the fork being 400g+, the weight increases being due to the disc brake requirements, frameset is reguarded as 'stiffer' (I have no testing data on either). The thru-axles are Mavis Speed axles (the wheel can be removed without the entire axle being removed) Now we have the 3rd generation; a return to smaller geometry sizes, T-47bb, cable intergration, hourglass headtube, standard thru-axles. Weight appears to be very similar to gen 2. Priced very well. To me it's a very pleasing bike in looks, engineering, quality and cost...if only I could fit on one!
@@jonathanharris9727 thanks mate, altered the comment to make it clearer - and I also forgot about the thru-axles too! The gen 2 has Mavic Speed Release axles, so the left hand side dropout is threaded but also open bottomed - you pull the axle out a little bit and then it drop out of the bike opposed to the full removal of a thru axle.
Do you think it could be built with mechanical groupset? I've seen Look's manual and I think it seems doable, but I'm not a mechanic myself. The geometry and specs of the frame would seem to fit me so I'm consodering this as my first build.
Great video, thanks Paul. Added further to my indecision now - I’m thinking about a new bike and hadn’t really considered Time or Look until seeing your vids 🙂 This 785 Huez looks a lot like the new Enve Fray that was just released.
Hi. Just watched this great review video, many thanks. Quick question, is the frame UHD compatible ? Just thinking about future proofing. Thanks. Phill
Assume you mean UDH as in the mech hanger. No. I don’t know of any road frames that are. Lots of gravel bikes are these days. I think the UDH is just too big and bulky for a road frame.
Thanks for the video, love look bikes. Have look 795 blade rs 2022. For the 2024 look 785 huez is compatible with any other carbon stem with integrated cabling? Thanks
Looks stunning and could see my next road bike being a Look. My only gripe with them is it’s yet another bike brand which is pretty much impossible to test ride pre purchase.
The 795 HUEZ RS though is a pure climbing beast with a 700g frame & 300g fork (size Medium) I have the HUEZ rim brake version but I’ll get the HUEZ RS rim brakes to build a sub 6kgs climbing bike
@@Mapdec I think RS is the lighter, top tier carbon version. There is the 795 RS BLADE and the HUEZ RS. I’m French and I see quite a few of those regularly.
Anyone know how the geometry of this might work for someone who likes to be more upright, less stretched out and riddled with early onset arthritis. I ride the Gen4 Domane, which is very good, but boring. Looking to rekindle my roadie days whilst gradually aging into a less fjexible lifestyle.
Not looking overly upright. Front is low ish. I have same problem. If I'm going to replace my bike, I'll be looking at, new BMC roadmachine, Pearson Forge, canyon endurance or Look 765 opt.
Is this new 785 superior to a 2017 785 RS with rim brakes and the feathery weight? Just wondered whether all the latest tech really does make a huge difference?
For feathery weight the 795 Blade hits that for the competitive rider. The 785 is now more designed for less competitive rider to enjoy big days in the mountains. Its geometry really makes sense when you are going uphill and it has a reassuringly solid feel for those long descents, and the weight / price compromise for that will depend on your budget and ambition. The 795 Blade really is the all round race machine now.
@@gregkane8635 you did great. Don’t worry about it. Giant quote a size M. The weights quoted are all mental. There is the weight of an iPhone in it. You’ll probably have lighter wheels too as the giant ones are narrow, probably a lighter BB too. It’s mad, you can go on and on deciding what components you want to prioritise weight over durability, performance or stiffness.
Really, to show the better quality, perhaps do that frame analysis on a poorly made or run-of-the-mill frame set, in a real time comparison. Like to see how you’re measuring the saddle to bar drop space. For us punters, it’s just done by feel….usually back pain trial and error. Perhaps a three bike, three rider, bike swap test ride on a variable course of curves, straightaways, and chip seal course. Still not obvious, riding wise (not just head angle numbers), why Optimum is needed if the Huez can be setup with more spacers to mimic a higher stack height.
There is some talk on the web that this bike isn't built as well as the outgoing Huez RS. They say it's heavier and the carbon isn't as nice. Any thoughts on that?
I discuss this in the video. It’s not an RS, ie has the hi hod carbon, and yes it’s heavier for it. It’s also only £2250. Like most brands now there is just one high performance bike. The 795 RS Blade.
Hola Tengo 2 preguntas 1- tengo un manillar deda rs con sistema DCR, me valdria para este cuadro? 2- el color blanco tiene barniz, es brillo? Un saludo y gracias
Hey Paul! Do you think that Syncros RR IC 31.8mm Stem - black would be good alternative for look ls3 stem? They have one in stock in right length, id have to wait 2 months for look stem to arrive...
Hi Paul, I own a Look 595 circa 2007. It's awesome. However, I'm looking or a disc brake bike (I have a 2 gravel & winter disc bike). I want to go disc on my summer bike. The 785 Huez is very tempting but or e has a major drawn back - sizing. Being only 5'7 I ride xsmall in most bikes. The 785 xsmall has a 48cm seat tube which is on the long side and a 50.90 top tube. Which is a bit on the short size or me. Just so hard to find the right size bike on smaller sizes. The major issue with carbon bikes not real options for custom geo.
Interesting one. The ADHX is a bigger bike. A higher BB, longer rear center, longer wheelbase but with a shorter reach. The 785 is very much a road bike. The ADHX is a very versatile bike for the road less traveled.
@@MapdecWould you consider one more comfortable then the other? You described the 785 as all road and the ADHX is always described as a gravel race bike but if you just look at the geo stats it seems that the ADHX is more relaxed position wise. Kind of confusing if you're like me and looking for a more snappy handling with enough tire clearance which is not a long and low race bike.
Paul. Nice one. What are the differences between the new, 2024, 785 and earlier versions? You have me interested but I think a 765 might be more my speed. Thanks.
Hello Paul, I am about to order Huez frameset but I can’t find info about two things. 1. Is direct mount derailleur hanger included in the box? 2. How many spacers you get in the box? Thanks.
Beatiful looking bike. I know it may not be the most practicable, but I really do love the cleanliness of a one-piece integrated bar/stem. Will this frame be compatible with FSA ACR or Deda DCR (like Alanera)?
Thanks, but what's the full build weight? May I also suggest adding those kinds of details to the description, as well as key video moments in time stamps. It helps us, and the algorithm to suggest the video to people. Keep the great content going!
@@jamessankey01 it's not super precise but I often hypothetically build bikes with advertised weight for fun, you should try it, makes you forget all your problems until you total up what would it cost to build that bike 😅
The old one was defo in that ‘climbing bike’ category. This one is much more planted and confident on descents, stiffer for power transfer and steering, but heavier for it.
I want to point out that my 2021 rim brake 785 RS was significantly heavier than the 2017 model. 1000g on the dot for frame without fork. Still an amazing bike to ride when built up to around 7.1kg with 11s mech Ultegra and Campy Shamals. I'm wondering if there was actually a generation change without Look publicising anything. The frame looks extremely similar to this new 785, except without the proprietary headset design.
Hello, I have the previous version with rim brakes, it is a great bike but it is unstable on fast mountain descents. Have you tried this model at high speeds in corners? Has the defect been corrected?
Great bike, great review as always. Weight of the bike you were riding ? Does the cockpit come apart relatively easy for transporting to Mallorca? It may be "only" £5K, but i would hope it to be well below 8kg for that price tag.
What a weird time when some call a 5 grand push bike a bargain 😂. What I do like is the increase in conventional (classic?) seat stays as opposed to the ugly smaller and smaller rear triangles
Umm. Did the video not answer this for you? It’s a different bike. The replacement for the lightweight race bike is really the 795 now. The 785 is now a much more practical ride for riders that like big days in the mountains. Much more confident on the descents, and more comfortable doing the miles.
Well I was thinking of upgrading my current 2023 Huez RS having just sold my TCR. Looking at geometry geeks comparing to my 2023 size M, the 2024 model is smaller, biggest change is seat angle being more upright possibly for comfort as opposed to hills. I have a madone and a 765 gravel RS, so maybe an all rounder could be better..
Great info nice frame and the build you've done looks great.. does the price you quoted just under 5k is that including your build time etc :) looking very trim buddy.. Pete
Huge fan of the inbetweeners... and like a race bike from the 00's/ early10's, this is the sort of bike most riders should be on if they're not racing competitively, leave all the uncomfortable aero / integrated stuff to the actual pro's. The plinky plonky background music.. sounds like someone bludgeoning a squirrel.

@@garybird8646 yeah. It is. There is no point making a cayman lighter and stiffer, because you want the more refined and compliant ride. If you want a better cayman you spec things like better audio. In this case you get the cayman chassis and you can refine the details.
@@garybird8646 the Geo is pretty much the same except that the head tube is longer allowing for a higher position without loads of spacers. Why would you want something lighter, but not aero? If you’re concerned enough about weight, yo go faster you should be even more concerned about aero.

The gen 2 has Mavic Speed Release axles, so the left hand side dropout is threaded but also open bottomed - you pull the axle out a little bit and then it drop out of the bike opposed to the full removal of a thru axle.
Hola!!!
Se sabe si van a sacar este cuadro en version RS mas ligero?

What a stunning group of bikes!
It really is! A privilege to ride to them for sure.
Do you think it could be built with mechanical groupset? I've seen Look's manual and I think it seems doable, but I'm not a mechanic myself. The geometry and specs of the frame would seem to fit me so I'm consodering this as my first build.
Yep.
Exactly what I thought about the prices of the ready builds!
Thats it, I am going to build me one of those.
Nice.
Great review Paul thank you
I have just ordered Pro team black frameset ❤
nice. congrats
Beautiful bike. Great review
Thank you.
Great video, thanks Paul. Added further to my indecision now - I’m thinking about a new bike and hadn’t really considered Time or Look until seeing your vids 🙂 This 785 Huez looks a lot like the new Enve Fray that was just released.
The fray is much longer. More like a Time ADHX
@@Mapdec Thanks for the insight! 👍🏻👍🏻
The sweetspot in the range I think. Very nice and thought out build up, well done!
Thank you kindly!
Should’ve thought to try you folks when I was looking for an 875 Madison frameset, no Look dealers round here would even try to get me one
A lot has changed with look distribution recently.
Come and ride this one.
The 795 HUEZ RS though is a pure climbing beast with a 700g frame & 300g fork (size Medium) I have the HUEZ rim brake version but I’ll get the HUEZ RS rim brakes to build a sub 6kgs climbing bike
Yeah. I think look replaced that with the blade. It’s that 1 race bike vibe. Aero, stiff, light all in one.
5k !,is it me or are new bikes custom or not just out of the reach of real people.,love your content sir.
Yeah. I think bike prices are still out of whack with average salaries.
Lovely bike. I like the geo. What is the frame weight on these?
It’s at the end of vid
@@Mapdec sorry replied before got to the end. A little heavy tcr pro is 850g but a lovely bike. Health to enjoy 👍
@@gregkane8635 maybe. With all the axles, hangers and seat clamps removed.
@@Mapdec possibly. That’s the weight they claim 🤷♂️ I’ve the same groupset and it’s 7.6 with ultegra pedals
Is this frame available for delivery in the uk from you?
Not for delivery, but we can build one for you.
Really interested in this bike but can’t seem to find any bike shops that stock them near me. Do you know any look dealers near London or Kent?
@@freddiewalker3320 I don’t. But we have many clients from London that enjoy a trip to the Lake District.
Hola
Tengo 2 preguntas
1- tengo un manillar deda rs con sistema DCR, me valdria para este cuadro?
2- el color blanco tiene barniz, es brillo?
Un saludo y gracias
Hi. It’s 2 no I’m afraid.
@@Mapdecla 1? Me valdría el manillar?
Gracias
Will that Seatpost work with round saddle rails
Yes.
Hey Paul!
Do you think that Syncros RR IC 31.8mm Stem - black would be good alternative for look ls3 stem? They have one in stock in right length, id have to wait 2 months for look stem to arrive...
I doubt it would blend with the cable guide, but no reason why you can’t fit it with regular spacers
@@Mapdecwill see in a few days, i ordered bike and stem, we gonna check it in lbs, and figure will it work together. Cheers
Canyon actually have the best range for xs, xxs, XL and XXL riders.
Beautiful Bikes, I have a storck Fenomalist and the build quality looks very much the same. Would love a Look bike
Without looking at the numbers it sounds to me like this is the same sort of idea as trek's h2 fit. Which trek should bring back.
It’s a good observation. Wish I had mentioned that now.
thank you great video👍
Thank you too!
Will the cable-routing still function properly if you use a different stem than the one that comes with the frameset?
Yes, but you will have a hole at the front
How would you compare the 785 to a TIME ADHX in terms of geometry?
Interesting one. The ADHX is a bigger bike. A higher BB, longer rear center, longer wheelbase but with a shorter reach. The 785 is very much a road bike. The ADHX is a very versatile bike for the road less traveled.
Would you recommend the adhx for an occasional road race? I’m looking for the one bike to rule them all and the adhx is high on the list
@@EasySteve-vi6yz ah. Maybe my speech impediment. The ADHX is best described as All Road. The 785 an All Round Road bike.
@@bartvandemoosdijk32 umm. Not really. It had a high BB and a long wheelbase.
Paul. Nice one. What are the differences between the new, 2024, 785 and earlier versions? You have me interested but I think a 765 might be more my speed. Thanks.
The earlier versions were still very much in the lightweight climbing bike category.
Hello Paul, I am about to order Huez frameset but I can’t find info about two things. 1. Is direct mount derailleur hanger included in the box? 2. How many spacers you get in the box? Thanks.
The braze on is rivited on like I shoes in the vid. You get 4cm worth of spacers.
@@Mapdec I am asking about rear hook, the one included in the box is compatible with new ultegra di2 direct mount? I thought it was 5cm.
Beatiful looking bike. I know it may not be the most practicable, but I really do love the cleanliness of a one-piece integrated bar/stem. Will this frame be compatible with FSA ACR or Deda DCR (like Alanera)?
Umm. I will check on that. In theory yes, because the top cap is made by Token and they made DCR etc adaptors.
@@Mapdec . I believe you tested a size L. Can I ask what saddle height you are riding, and the associated saddle to bar drop?
Hey Paul…just curious if you typically recommend wrapping a carbon bike frameset?
It’s personal choice. It adds weight, which I always think is ironic on road bikes. I prefer a few scars of adventure to the dirty edges of a wrap.
@@Mapdec okay thanks
Great review, what's the weight on this beauty?
It’s at the end of
Thanks, but what's the full build weight? May I also suggest adding those kinds of details to the description, as well as key video moments in time stamps. It helps us, and the algorithm to suggest the video to people. Keep the great content going!
@@jamessankey01 it's not super precise but I often hypothetically build bikes with advertised weight for fun, you should try it, makes you forget all your problems until you total up what would it cost to build that bike 😅
Yes please, I would also like to see the weight of the full build ! I‘m sure you have a scale in the workshop somewhere ; ) Keep up the great work !
@@jamessankey01 this build was 8.00kg with pedals, wahoo mount and bottle cages.
How does this compare to the outgoing 785? Press fit BB and slightly different geometry come to mind, anything ease of note?
The old one was defo in that ‘climbing bike’ category. This one is much more planted and confident on descents, stiffer for power transfer and steering, but heavier for it.
@Mapdec I was after a climbing bike, so ordered the previous version heavily discounted. Thanks for your help.
The descents in the vid are about 12%. Felt very planted. I will do some updates from Mallorca too. The frame only arrived just before we fly.
is it because your stem is too short🤔
Great bike, great review as always. Weight of the bike you were riding ? Does the cockpit come apart relatively easy for transporting to Mallorca?
It may be "only" £5K, but i would hope it to be well below 8kg for that price tag.
This build was dead on 8kg with pedals and bottle cages.
What a weird time when some call a 5 grand push bike a bargain 😂. What I do like is the increase in conventional (classic?) seat stays as opposed to the ugly smaller and smaller rear triangles
How does this newer version compare to the previous Huez 785 RS?
@@sanfordedin cool. Feel free to call the shop for a chat if you prefer.

We gave it a good burial

I could not find any video on the 695, just the 795 Aerolite, with the slammed headset and integrated brake calibers.
