    I noticed a lot of wheel coatings tend to be "high solids" versions of paint coatings and go for durability rather than any focus on slickness or gloss. I think there is room for a real wheel coating if you can make one that actually resists brake dust and has superior oleophobicity.

      We are working on it, but have yet to actually create anything that warrants a dedicated coating

    More than the commentary on the dedicated Ceramic for wheels, (which I agree with 💯) I enjoyed your comments surrounding how to clean wheels, so often we treat wheels differently. This was a great redirect to treat just like you treat your paint. I really appreciated this content thank you.

    Yeah a BMW owner here with M-sport steel brakes, it's brake dust city here, yesterday cleaned my wheels (coated) it.. Wasn't so easy as I thought it would be with the coating, not much difference, today did a 30km trip (lets be honest, it's nothing) and the wheels are dirty again.. It's a non-stop battle, one that I feel I am loosing with my will for detailing...

    Question for Yvan. I installed diamond body 36 on my car about 2 years ago. It was my first time polishing/coating, and I didn’t realize that it took a little more to remove the polish than just a quick pass with a towel. So in the sunlight, I can still see the polish oils under the coating. I want to polish again and install hydro lite, but is there any way to be sure I can remove the old coating so that I can remove those polish oils? I know that normally a quick polish can scar an old coating enough to be able to apply a new one, but is that going to be enough to be able to wipe off the old polish? I was hoping the coating would fail pretty quickly since I didn’t think it could bond to the paint with the polishing oils, but it’s still there. I’m hoping to not have to wet sand, as I have no experience with that.

    Depends, if you have a hybrid car that doesn't get driven hard especially on the brakes becauseof regen braking, then no. Use the body coating on the wheels after all its still paint. However, if you're heavily using a track car then yes because of the higher heat properties developed in the coating that can withstand those conditions. IMO

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Місяць тому +1

      If your wheel is getting hot enough to damage a coating, you have much bigger issues.

    My 19 inch Audi Rotor wheels are being painted as we speak. I bought Gyeon RIM ceramic coating to coat them and protect them. I will be putting on them All Sseason tyres to use them all year around. I want to apply ceramic coating to avoid using wheel cleaners and be good with the soaps at the self wash places. I wash my car regularly since I mostly drive in the city and the roads are dirty ( Romanian roads). There are times where I wash my car two times a week.
