      You'd clean the wheels using a stronger wheel cleaner like this: bit.ly/49kOvuy
      Then do a round of dedicated iron removal with something like CarPro IronX or Gyeon Iron
      Then do a round of claying to remove all the left over contamination
      Then do machine polishing (mechanical abrasion will take care of anything left over)
      IPA wipe
      Then applying a coating.

    Great tutorial! Anything special to consider if you have powder coated wheels?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks Ryan. In general, most powdercoating experts recommend just using a pH neutral car soap to clean the wheels. For dirtier wheels, you can use dedicated wheel cleaners, but just make sure it says on the label that it's compatible on powdercoated wheels.
      And make sure you follow the instructions perfectly. You don't want to work in direct sunlight and never let the product dry on the surface, as that could stain the finish.
      My favorite wheel & tire cleaner, P&S Brake Buster, is safe on powdercoated wheels. Here's my review of it: ua-cam.com/video/AoecVluB4Po/v-deo.htmlsi=vLaPFL6sL25HVeNU

    Hi Pan, good video as usual, i really like that Canada has the law witch states that you must have dedicated winter tires, we have it in EU as well, it really helps to minimize winter car accidents, the grip, safety in general and boost my confidence while driving in harsh winter conditions, and i know, it's a little inconvenience changing them up, but you will see a general reduction in car accidents ! Also is your winter profile tire a little lower than on summer ones? Or the same? My tires (not the wheel rims, they are smaller) are a little bigger on winter (18" vs 20" on summer) for safety reasons, cheers!

      Oh they are absolutely insane! 10 piston calipers, the biggest carbon ceramic brakes Porsche has ever installed on a 911 car. We measured a 0-100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, and a quarter mile time of 10.1s @ 138 mph, so it's truly a beast. And a car that accelerates that quick needs the best possible brakes as well, and I can confirm those brakes are insane! They make you stop on a dime. :)

    I did Gyeon Q2 Rim a couple years ago. Twice actually. Pulled the wheels, scrubbed, decon, light polish, Gyeon prep... Took me two days to do all four wheels the first time. Did it in a day the second. Looked amazing both times. I just don't have the time to keep redoing them every 4 months though. I drive 130+ miles a day for work, 34,000 miles a year (almost 55,000 km). I'm in NE Ohio in the states and have the hot humid rainy summers and cold snowy winters and they drop enough road salt sometimes to make the roads as white as a sheet of paper. For the money and amount of time and work I just wasn't impressed enough to keep it up. I've just gone back to either Gyeon Wet Coat or Car Pro HydrO2. Maybe I'll give this one a shot this year.

      In theory, according the the brands that produce these coatings, there are differences in the formulation of wheel specific coatings that allow for a higher resistance to hotter temperatures (that you get from the brake components) and sometimes also higher chemical resistance, as the wheel cleaners that you use are much harsher than car soap on the paintwork.
      But in theory, you could use a traditional paint coating on wheels as well, as the coating bonds to the clear coat on the wheels, just like it bonds to the clear coat on the paint. But even if you apply a traditional multi-year paint coating on your wheels, don't expect it to last more than a year anyways, as you use much harsher chemicals to clean your wheels, and also the environment the coating is in gets a lot more beating and heat compared to the paint.

ANY info Helps

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому +1

      If it has a clear coat, you deal with it just like you would with clear coated paint.
      You always start with the less aggressive method first. A water spot remover. If that still doesn’t work, you do a light polish.
      The longer water spots are left unattended on paint, the more the etching gets deep and that can even cause permanent damage.

    • @hawkdlr
      @hawkdlr 3 місяці тому

      @PanTheOrganizer I've already tried chemical guys water spot remover but no luck...and any certain polish you recommend?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому +1

      When a water spot remover doesn't work, you know it's time to bump up the aggression level to a paint polish. Start with a polish and see if that works. Any polish will do. If that still doesn't work, you know it's deeper and you would have to use a compound first, and then finish with the polish.
      But before polishing steps, it's important to neutralize all the minerals by using a water spot remover. Perhaps something stronger than the CG stuff you used. I like this product: bit.ly/3utde0I
      Wash the car. Dry it. Spray the water spot remover (follow the instructions and don't work in direct sunlight), then agitate with a microfiber towel or mitt. Then rinse, and rewash the car to neutralize any chemical left over. And then do the polishing steps.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Місяць тому

      You’d have to ask the company as there can be some variations. But generally speaking, once opened, a coating bottle is only good for about a month or so.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Good idea for a future video. Basically, there are two general types of hydrophobic properties. Hydrophobics are the way water behaves on a surface. The first is water beading. Tight little water droplets. And the second is water sheeting. The water sheds of the surface instead of staying on the surface in the form of droplets.

      Impossible to say as it really depends on how much you apply and more importantly the size of the wheels. Massive 21” wheels like on my Turbo S or 22” on my new Cayenne require way more than on standard 15-16” rims.
      But one bottle should allow you to do four big wheels or stretching to eight standard size wheels if I were to take an educated guess.

      As I said in the video, and in many videos I film during winter, yes they use road salts here in Montreal. But I wash my car twice weekly, and always stay on top of maintenance. And also I have an undercarriage water broom attachment to get to the undercarriage when needed. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed in my opinion, and mine is a daily driver year round. • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому +3

      That's totally fine too. But in theory, according the the brands that produce these coatings, there are differences in the formulation of wheel specific coatings that allow for a higher resistance to hotter temperatures (that you get from the brake components) and sometimes also higher chemical resistance, as the wheel cleaners that you use are much harsher than car soap on the paintwork.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 місяці тому

      Not really. As you can use a spray on rinse off sealant (like Gyeon WetCoat) and there will inevitably be some overspray on the rotors. But as soon as you brake, that thin layer gets immediately removed. No worries.

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      No. CG Hydro line is an inferior line of products. You can’t compare entry level big box store stuff (CG) to prosumer/pro level products like CarPro, Gyeon, Gtechniq and Armour Detail Supply. They are on a completely different level.
      Also, CG Hydrospin is just a spray. The coatings in this video are true coatings, i.e. in glass bottles.

But Chemical Guys is still totally fine. I could detail a car with their products and would still get awesome results.
