    Murdaugh murder trial Clerk of Court Becky Hill’s son, the head of the Colleton County IT department was arrested for wiretapping in an investigation that also resulted in Becky Hill’s phone being taken due to a search warrant. It seems the 14th circuit solicitor's office was asked to look into this days after Murdaugh’s defense team filed their appellate motion accusing Becky Hill of jury tampering. Is this all a wild conscience or is there a lot more going on in the low country??

    After watching the dumpster fire yesterday and hearing Poot say, "Alex would like to speak for five minutes" and that turning into an hour of gaslighting his victims, I'm convinced he's going to testify if there is a retrial.

      Does anybody know that if there's a murder retrial, can Alex's testimony from the first trial be brought in as evidence? That is, if he does choose to NOT testify in the new trial, could his prior testimony be used or does it become a fifth amendment thing?

    • @revanninja
      @revanninja 7 місяців тому +1

      @@silikon2 From my understanding yes and no depending on the type of retrial. If its a retrial plain and simple then yes his original testimony can be used. But if the retrial is held saying it needs to start from square one because of bias and other things tainting the whole thing then ALL evidence is thrown out and nothing can be reused including his testimony.
      But that is my understanding and could be wrong.

      I don’t know, in those jail calls, Grffin got really tired of Alex calling….i have no idea. But Griffin on one call said “I have to go, Alex it’s late at night”…..apparently he thought he could call at all hours. Not surprising in the least, though.

      I agree. There is a stark difference between NC and S.C. vital records going back decades. I do genealogy research and NC is precise and accurate and ticks and ties as one would expect. SC allowed nicknames instead of legal names, the name on birth record to not match marriage record, not even consistency with the nicknames through the legal records over time…just very fast and loose with the rules… I asked about this marked disparity just one state over, and ppl told me it is a cultural/regional approach or pov.

      One of the lawyers, Mark Tinsley, said one good thing that came out of the murdaugh cases is everyone is being better about making certain everything is filled appropriately and signed off appropriately. Of course, this was the purpose of judges signing off on these things… they were supposed to be checking but I’m glad they are being more diligent now.

      This county and state unfortunately does have its own set of rules. Believe it you me a lot worse has happened. From what I gather in this county a lot secrets are on the verge to come out from the first time trial alone. So hopefully more things will come to surface and shock us all.

    What came first, the chicken or the egg juror? Either Jeffrey got caught doing bad shit unrelated to his mom or the Murdaughs because of his association with Becky and it was just like "oh shit, look what we found when we were looking into Becky!" OR he was in kahootz with Becky, and therefore the investigation into her led straight to him.
    I don't see how it can be anything outside of those two options with the timing and the SLED of it all. I'm so fascinated!!!

    i would think the logical progression is someone read Hill's book and spotted something that no one should have known b/c it was only discussed during a single private phone call. if it was in her book then it's not a leap to say she has a connection -- her son -- working IT including access to phone conversations. it's probably leaning towards a conspiracy charge.

  • @JacksMomPat
    @JacksMomPat 7 місяців тому +18

    Hi EDB, this wirefraud charge against Becky Hill’s son gives me red flag vibes and thoughts of “Becky’s”
    involvement. Her son risked being fired by doing it and has obviously subsequently now been fired! Yes please keep us posted on this, I think that this charge is related to Becky Hill’s jury tampering. Please keep us updated on this 😳🎉

  • @CuriousMouseExploration
    @CuriousMouseExploration 7 місяців тому +1

    Becky needs to be sanctioned for that book. As an elected official charged with court duties, she should not be allowed to talk about. Individual jurors. She shouldn't have approval of any sort to write about the trial of someone that is not closed completely. The jurors have a right to be pissed. The fact that she joined some jurors on the road with media is sickening to me. It's a total conflict of interest and highly disrespectful of the jurors and the court. I can't believe she was approved for this b4 the Murdaugh trials were all closed. It reads of corruption on several levels. Now, that her son was arrested and her phone taken, this reads of corruption too. I mean, really. How much corruption can there be if Murdaugh was allowed to get away with his crimes for so long and now we see this county has more? Yes, we're interested in this whole thing. Even if the clerk of court is found innocent, if I was a juror, I'd say my objection to service would be the potential of Becky writing another book that scandalizes me. I'd be NO WAY!

      I served as a juror on a civil suit case between to international companies doing business here in the US and it was scary to award damages because it involved illegal sites (prescription drugs, illegal gambling and CP)😳 3rd party was also involved but was able to dodge court time. Both prosecuting and defense lawyers were intense and the defense PULLED the jury after we deliberated the verdict. IT WAS NOT WORTH IT to miss work at all because of how crooked these parties were. Defense was so smug and tried to befriend us during also.
      I can imaging how upset they were to find out court official wrote about them for just doing their civic duty while getting paid literal pennies. So not worth all that.

    In the US, your place of employment isn't legally obligated to pay you wages for missing work to complete jury duty. They can, but aren't legally bound to.
    Its by county, but in the county I reside in and most of the surrounding counties, an arrest warrant will be issued if you do not appear given for the month you are summoned in. You have to call a number every morning to see if there's a case that day set for voir dir (ignore my terrible spelling if another language).
    I had jury duty once and am indifferent about it honestly. When you are summoned in my state, your employer is obligated to let you complete jury duty without any reprimand of any kind (judges despise the companies that don't allow people to show up for jury duty) from your employer.
    Thankfully, I lost no wages (my employer paid my wages) and used no vacation/sick time to complete jury duty.
    The court officials were really nice, and even asked me a question about mileage (I reside close to the courthouse and they were so confused - I can walk to it). I don't know much about the cases, because we never entered the court room, but the way it was done is really well.
    The courthouse for my county has more than one entrance (it has 4 known to me entrances), where there's only one entrance with the clerk of courts and where their offices reside. We didn't enter those doors and were specifically told which doors to use for jury duty. We were lead out that same door and were instructed to only use that door while on jury duty. We saw Judge assistants and the security staff, and once - the judge himself came in to personally thank us for taking the time out of our days to be there (he was sincere) and inform us of the situation. They were really respectful and mindful of keeping any possibility of jury tampering out of the courthouse. The others that were there, I talked to a few of them since I am a local and know the place fairly well. Everyone I interacted with seems to respect the system when a trial goes to a jury, which made me fairly proud of the county as a whole.
    I wouldn't mind seeing the actual court process from a standpoint of a jury member because of that experience alone, but any part of the process could ruin it.
    A clerk of court, someone in a position I respect, doing that is appaling to say the least. Their system and how they handle jury summons/trial should be looked into and look for ways to improve their process.
    Edit: smat phone likes to try and make me say words that aren't what I want to use.

    Yes please on lawnerd book club!! I’d be super interested on your take of her book too. I read it, it was horribly written and hard to get through. Lots of info about how many people she met and how stressful reading the verdict was and what a big deal she is. I can also see how she insulted some jurors. It’s not worth the price of the book, but I’d LOVE to hear you talk about your thoughts on what she said!

    Emily! I have an idea for the 'cork of clerk' situation... in southern england we say 'clark' we still spell it clerk but we say it like we are talking about superman.
    You can totally pretend to be british to get yourself out of that tongue twister situation!
    Clark of court... way easier

    • @Julia-uh4li

      It's pronounced Clark up here in the Midlands, also. Probably the whole of the UK, in my opinion. As an American living here, I'm still fascinated by these different pronunciations that are so different than what I'm used to in the States. Oh, how about the color Khaki? At least where I live, up in Nottingham, oh & Derby, where I work, everyone pronounces it as Car Key. Like WHAT? Is that how you all say it down south, too?
      Totally FASCINATING 😳🤣
