The 60s and 70s were the best decades of music. Incredible talented artists. We still enjoy with amazing memories. Can't go back but we can keep the music going. Thanks to all of them
This shit makes me happy to be alive...whoever the brainchild was that brought these guys together had no idea of longevity of something like this would be...Shit is universal...POWERFUL
Bands have that one key player that makes them untouchable. Once that person leaves, it’s never the same. For Chicago, it was Terry Kath. For the Commodores, it was Lionel Ritchie. The list goes on and on
This great event happened 51 years ago and it’s timeless. You see how excited and happy Chicago was to be playing with Al Green, who even back in 1973 was a living legend. And of course Chicago were no slouches either. Great clip!!!!!
Look at the smiles. These guys were amazed at Al, but kept it together to play masterfully behind him. One of the greatest bands ever; such a disgrace that they had to wait decades to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The smiles around that studio is what gets you. They’re literally having a blast. The original seven of Chicago is were straight smoking. Folks forget that Peter Cetera is was dope on the bass, he and Terry Kath were in sync. One love Chicago and Reverend Al. ☝🏾❤️
This video raises a few “what ifs” in my mind. Such as what if Al Green and Chicago cut an album together? And what if Al and Chicago did a tour together? Both would’ve been classic I’m sure.
He's got that bass in the pocket like he owns the song. Beginning at 3:27 he literally clowns (very subtly) on that bass. They shoulda followed it up with an Al Green, Terry Kath vocal duo.
I love how anytime the musician get a chance during the track they got this big ol stupid smile on their face cause it's freaking AL green this could be the only exciting thing you'd ever been a part of and it would be enough. Amazing recording.
@@cirenosnor5768 Not only do I know what I'm saying , I repeat Al Green is the greatest Soul Singer of ALL time ! With that said , Sam Cooke , Otis Redding , Marvin Gaye , Teddy Pendergrass etc.. are all great singers and I love them too, but when it comes to live performances that sound better than the recorded version, the passion , vocal abilities , his range and the interaction with his audience he's hands down the BEST !!
Chicago and Al kicked the door down and laid this bad boy right on down. Everyone was having a great time jamming on this. Sure wish Terry was still here.
OMG, how do I give this ten likes? Best ever version of this great Al Green tune featuring the Chicago rhythm section doing its thing with the easy groove sounding so good (especially the dynamic duo of Kath and Cetera) and Green at the top of his game. I remember first hearing this almost 50 years ago and it still blows me away today in 2023.
DIDN'T KNOW THIS EVEN HAPPENED I CAME ACROSS THIS BY ACCIDENT BUT GLAD I DID IT MAKES ME HAPPY FILLS MY HEART UP WITH LOVE IT'S SO GOOD I'M GRINNING EAR TO EAR TO LOVE IT🙏😊🔥
Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946. Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music. Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as its list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14.
Man, what a treat! Those horns were right there, and Al knew he was in very capable hands, comfortable enough to improvise a little . The smiles on everyone's faces speaks volumes. That was great! Thank you!
Caribou Ranch brought so many musicians together. God this pairing is amazing. Just look at the admiration in the bands faces. Terry Kath especially. RIP TK. Miss these days
Al Green was the MAN. So cool seeing how much fun they were having and it almost looked like the way the Chicago guys were looking at Green, the were in such awe because they knew they were in the presence of and playing with true greatness. The original Chicago lineup was very very versatile.
Jeez, just seeing this for the first time!! What a great recording -- and such a treasure! Much thanks & respect to whoever finnagled THIS onto youtube!
OMG What at TREAT!!!!!!! I never knew Al performed with the band Chicago backing him up. Wow, mind blown. This was FANTASTIC! What a treasure to discover. I love Al Green and Chicago. What a great mix. Who'd of thunk it lol. Amazing footage, that i've got to download, for forever and a day for my pleasure.
Sandra Jones in 2018 looking back on such a beautiful rendition of one of Al Greens greatest hits and live at that you know we loved Live music nothing like iti ever
Agreed: But I've got to give all props to the Chicago rhythm section who were in the pocket especially the base player. DAMN: real musicianship. And we loved Al here in Chicago so his music was all over the city. I'm thankful to everyone involved including the uploader. Blessings, love & Peace to your homes!!!
This is absolutely brilliant music, by the Al Green & Chicago…. Just don’t get any better than That… Plus it’s just So so smooth how they did it… They are true to the Game keeping it 💯 🎼🎤🎼🎤🎼🎤🎼🎤 Don’t make music like that no mo!!! Thanks Al & Chicago 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Watching these guys kill it is infectious. All are absolutely excellent, unmatched talents; yet they all seem to be pinching themselves to be performing with the very best that there is in the game. Al almost lost his mind hearing just how darn good Chicago sounds in person; and Chicago just can't stop smiling hard enough to show their admiration with Mr Soul himself, Al Green. Man, I miss those days. But this is definitely one for the archives.
Good God Y'all. Absolutely wonderful track .Both the Reverend Al and Chicago in peak form. Al's vocals are magnificent - passionate and controlled and the boys from Chicago totally nailing the backing - they do the original musicians from Hi in Memphis TOTAL justice.
Can't agree more. I will be out in a flotilla on the small lake I live on in Michigan and everyone keeps forcing their music on us that we don't want so I ask for my turn. Put Al on and it's a dance flotilla, air band, and sing a long instantly.
This is a GREAT video (IMHO) of Al Green with Chicago at Caribou Ranch in Nederland, CO. Al sings with such emotion and Chicago does a wonderful job playing Al's music. They cut off a great part at the end though where they're all joking around and saying how much fun the session was...somebody ought to post the WHOLE video!
The 60s and 70s were the best decades of music. Incredible talented artists. We still enjoy with amazing memories. Can't go back but we can keep the music going. Thanks to all of them
Great in 1973 and greater in 2023
I just realized we set da bar so damn high wit this kinda music and thats why todays music sucks
You’re exactly right my man
you jus don’t listen to enough music man

Fantastic....I feel it
Chicago's original line-up was an untouchable ensemble, but the smiles on their faces reflect the respect they held for Al. You can't fake that shit!

Right!
I love both performers!!! They did that thang!!
Terry plays like a session man. Ego in check, sweet, subtle licks without taking any attention from the singer
Yeah seeing Terry doing that surprised me, but it’s great to see. They’re all just serving the song to make it as perfect as possible.
To me this is the best live performance EVER , Chicago and Al Green just perfect.
Yes Perfect. It made me cry listening to 2 of my favorites
its in a recording studio
I get goosebumps every time I listen to this. Goosebumps AND a tear in my eye….but I always end up with a huge smile! 😉

It raises hair on my arms too.
If only Terry were still here... rest to the greatest guitar player ever
I seriously got goosebumps.

The Great Al Green and Chicago awesome. So glad I grew up in the 70s.
I'm STILL here in 2023 because Al's vocal abilities are straight up PERFECTION ! The Greatest Soul Singer of ALL time 💚 !
Think what you’re saying here is that Green is your favorite. Hard to cite who’s the best when you also have the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding
