I saw him perform in a room of about 15 to 20 people in 1973. How lucky were we?
amazing moment for you and didn't realize how much you would appreciate it...all these years later
jim page you are a very lucky guy to be in the presence of someone this spiritual.
no background, no flashy background dancers. Just a legend and his band. PERIOD. Artist today can learn a lot from this performance.
I was 16 years old when I heard this song. 😊
I was almost 2 in 1972. This was played on my Dads stereo. Mom and Dad slow dancing on shag carpet me dancing in my crib!!🤣🤣🤣🤣. My dad just got home from Vietnam.
We the same age I was 2 when Al sung this.I met him in 1978 when I was eight years old at radio Staton WRBD in Ft Lauderdale.
Al Green - One of the most fantastic male voices ever recorded!
this man can sing live better than on a recording. Amazing !
I just said the same thing to myself. Damn, I'm choked up with tears about to fall...
This man is a national treasure!!
Me and my late brother's favorite singer back in the 1970s .
I just saw this and I thought of my son who past away 15 years ago at the age of 27 I am telling you, his age is out of all the music he would listen to. This was one of his favorite.
Man this dude can REALLY sing! No auto tune/voice over/voice enhancers..... Just some real instruments and a mic
The absolute BEST performance of this song, can never get enough of it ….. natural God given talent!
he just radiates talent....this is an incredible live version....
He was so very sexy. I love his facial expressions and gestures, he sings about true love and with so much emotion, that he makes you feel it. And wow was he a total knockout back then, look at that lovely body, what a gorgeous, sweet, beautiful sexy man!
don't be jealous, Jorge, i'm sure someone thinks the same of you...somewhere...
Three days before I turned 12, this show was broadcast. It's amazing that after 45 years, I am now 57, and this song still sounds as fresh and new as it did back then! The soundtrack of my life!
If only our current generation of musicians could understand what real music truly is!
There’s plenty of good musicians these days. You’re missing out on a lot of good music if you’re not listening to it.
Greatest natural soul singer that ever lived!!!
My Dad had Al Green 8Track Tape in the 70s in his old Green Beetle (Volkswagen) when I was kid. I love Al Green!!!
Love this song! Makes me tear up everytime I hear it. All human beings seek love and romance. Most of us have had our hearts broken, we've all lost someone we love, either because they stopped loving us, or they passed on to the otherside. Love who you love as much as you can while you have a chance to do so. Life is fickle, the human heart even more so. Have a great day.
+Brandon Wright My life is like a country song right now, hubby of 35 years is divorcing me, dog is going to be put down because of old age
This touched me 😭 definately one of my fave songs. So tired of being alone
Yes it's a great song but jeez aren't you a little pretentious there. And wound in this was just a you know a pop song a little more so than usual have you ever listen to How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
This was recorded 50 years ago today 16/2/2022. Glad I stopped by for my regular Al Green fix.
it dont happen often but this is a prime example.... live performance blows the doors off the studio version...man he brings it home here... judging by the look on his face he knew it....
The drummer's feel is extraordinary in this performance. It makes Al Green smile with joy near the beginning.
He better be right, he’s another James Brown, you hit the wrong key. He will
make you pay for it Al is a perfectionist to the highest.
What a marvelous voice, soul flowing through his total being! I thank God he gave him such a gift to share with the world! Sweet!
This is a man who knows that his voice is an instrument from the Creator and he uses it to its full potential. In doing so he evokes very deep emotions in those blessed enough to hear him. Watching him perform is even more of a blessing than just listening to him.
Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946.
Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music.
Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as its list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14.
Never seen anything like this. I m speechless. His sense of rythm is just beyond my comprehension. Just perfect
He's not pretending, a song is just a song unless it's felt natural born soul singer!
This never gets old.
We need more music like this, music like this doesn't exist anymore!
Real Music for real people...........
Saw him in concert with the Spinners at the Forum in Inglewood. The awesome Rev. Al Green. 1973, I think. What great days.
Wynne Benti Puhleez... how fortunate are YOU.. ( but you surely know)...Wow
This man is the most incredible singer ever! A style that can't be duplicated! ❤️
One of the greatest soul singer HERE!!
Feeling the need for some good old fashioned soul from the great Al Green.......
sometimes I fold my arms and say "wooo hooo"
too much soul
Wow what soul brother. I remember as a kid. Pulled off a reservation in the 60s and put in a housing projects. we had our tribal songs. These brothers taught us something so good to the soul it was a easy transformation to soul music. The 60s and 70s the great spirit sent us a whole bunch of this spiritual singers this is one of them. Some day I'm meet this man. He reminds me of the kids I grew up with. Thanks posting and thank you for all the love al green.
We were 3rd or 4th row when we saw him. He came down off the stage & hugged me, as I was standing in the aisle!😊
@@kathyszany3366 how lucky where you to be in the presence of someone this spiritual. I glad you enjoyed your experience that evening.
I’m not tired of being alone. I like it. Don’t have to worry about anything but what you want! Why deal with an other person that will question everything you want to do. Alone you can do what you want! 👍
One's the greatest songs
this is style.
this is tremendous, extraordinary. this is a masterpiece not only for his voice, also his singing style. He lives in the song, he lives in the feelings which this song creates...
I never make any comments on this kind of music because its not my style, but damnn this song rocks the fucking house, especially live!!!.
I could watch this at least 1000 more times in a row! Still in love with him after 42 years!!!
It can't get no better.
Damn, I love the heck out of this song. Al Green can sing anything and sound so goooooooooood!!
This song is the one that made me fall in love with him, when I was 13 yrs old , been loving his music ever since, have all the 45's, albums now CD's & Gospel CD's !!!! His music just makes me HAPPY !!!!!!
Amazing song and singer. Really makes you feel the music.
mhmm.. such a handsome man. Love watchin som Al Green.
Oh my ***Help me I can watch this over and over he is handsome!!!!!!!
Loved me some "Al Green" back in the day! This performance - great memories. Such a naturally gifted voice - needs nothing but a back beat. ;-)
There are singers that each time they sing, they sing better
Al always sang about real love. He sangs from deep down inside.
Makes me smile
face expressions ❤💕 shared this one 11 years ago on my fb, because I thought I liked the song. today, all those years later I look at this young Al and I think I understand... see and feel so much more! what a talent! what a performance!!
Al Green has a style like no other. Unique sound that no one can duplicate!!
#1. I think it's funny that the audience was so casual in their response to this performance. I'da been jumping up and down screaming!
#2. 42 years ago (2014), seriously!?! And boy was he so cool.
#3. This man didn't sing enough. He could've released albums singing nursery rhymes and sold millions.
I totally agree with you. No way I'd be sitting there like a zombie.. Music starts and I'm moving LOL
cartmanspeedzone it’s called being enthralled. I’d have hated to hear someone hollering while I was trying to enjoy the vibes he was exuding.
How can you not grove to this soulful song? Love it. Love Rev Green.
Al Green and Nat King Cole records dominated our household when i was a kid in the 1960s & 70s, my mother loved them both, happy memories.
i see the date and it's incredible that fifty years have gone by
Cant nobody TODAY sing live like this and sound this GOOD....NOBODY
Al Green is the Man!!!
If for no other reason, it's videos like these that make me love youtube and the internet, in general. How fortunate we are to be able to see all this vintage material. Al was a baaaaaaaaaaaad man. Kids today are really being cheated. I am introducing my two young sons to all the classics...before they are poisoned by today's plastic "music."
In my granddaughter's room folding up clothes with a cool glass of wine,,Rev Al still got it smoooooth.!!!!!!
So sweet ,,,,,,,January 21,2021.
Classic soul man...love this song!
Soul School? That's An Understatement! The Master At Work! Youngbloods Take Heed!
That's right; there will be a quiz later, so take notes LOL!!! He always has great stage presence.
Beautiful voice, beautiful song, beautiful man. Wish we had music & artists like this now..
Al green u be handsome back then 💖
And ur voice is fire💖💖
I’m a 25 year old Mexican-American that grew up in a predominantly Mexican area. My older bro used to play Al Green weekend mornings when he would wash his car. Brings great memories. Waking up, stepping outside, sun rays hitting my skin, and Al Green bumping out of my brothers Lincoln. Proud to be a young fella and vibe to Al Green like if I was 60 something haha.
Reverend Al is the gold standard for vocalists; untouchable. Show this to all contestants on American Idol, X-factor, The Voice, the "got talent" shows then hand them a brochure for skilled trades training at the local community college so they don't waste anyone's time.
I get chills listening to this. Al Green....just the greatest.
I'm 58 , still needing to hear some real blues from the 70"s and Al Green was always on my list, Happy New Year
OMG!! FANTASTIC! what a VOICE ~ if only someone would be this incredible w/o flairs, 1/2 dressed , fireworks, no talent, famous cause of utube?
NEVER happen in this day & age~ thank God for videos ❤
A young Al Green. Can't help moving to the beat of this beauty. Use to play this and all his songs every time in my 1970 Chevy Camaro when I was a teenager. You talk about awesome listening. Woooo!!!
Such a fantastic, soulful voice!❤
HAPPY 73RD BIRTHDAY REV ALBERT GREENE "AL GREEN" (APRIL 13, 2019)
How is it possible that songs like this inspires someone to be the best you can be ?? This is art man... My mission is to show songs like this to every person i know.... If it changed me it can change anyone... Greetings from Cali, Colombia.
I’m 78 years old, this was my time:-) It still is!
He is /was SO beautiful!!!!!!
Miss her, her soul, loving heart, beauty was unmatched , grew up alone but never felt lonely , didn’t know loneliness until she stopped talking to me. She has her reasons , a lot of past hurt , trauma, whoever hurt her , changed her to -close themselves up, push away… she called me a good man , then pushed me away. God I pray for her everyday, wish her love, hope God gives her peace in that amazing beautiful heart and soul of hers.
I always come back to this specific performance of this song .. gets me every time !!
Al Green is a national treasure.
Thank God for Rev Al Green's music ! My favorite all time singer .. Love and happiness to the WORLD . STAY WELL

The horns sound so good!
14 yrs. old when this was recorded and crazy about Al Green!! Who remembers the Right On magazines? I had pictures of Al all over the bedroom wall, can't say my wall, I was sharing with 4 other sisters. 😊
I remember being small & my mother & father danced to this song every day. I'm 19 now. This was about 14 years ago
Year 2020, I still listen to Al Green.
I play these kind of music wherever I go, currently enjoying in South Africa.
you go ahead Al ...sing that song boy... Al is no joke, sings live much better than studio version, who the hell can do that now a days? hell who could do it back then? he is in a class of his own, wasn't it him that got a bowl of hot grits in the face? something tells me he was no joke in bed either...
I am 70 and he still does it for me.
@WatchdogMom2
I'm 66 and gotta have my soul, classic, disco music everyday. I love my Marvin Gaye too! I'm disabled now and music sure keeps my spirits alive!
