1973 sitting in typing class I heard someone behind me singing this song(let's stay together). I turned around and it was this gorgeous light chocolate boy with a soft fro and green eyes. I think he was singing to me. Nothing ever happened but that was my song forever more. Today 2024, my 3 cchildren and I sing that together as loud as we can. Love you forever Al

I fell in love with Rev Al because my momma had him on repeat, when we cleaned the house on saturday. Then I fell in love with his soulful vocals on my own. Rev Al was loving Jennifer singing, because she captured the sheer essence of the song, Simply Beautiful.
My first true introduction to Al Green came around '72, '73. I was 12 or so and Al was one of my Dad's favorites. He, my mother and I had just gotten into the car for a four-hour drive to North Myrtle Beach. Daddy pushed Al's latest into the 8-track cassette player, and that's where it stayed for the entirety of the trip. "Are we going to have to listen to this for four hours?" I asked myself. But by the time we got to the beach, I was a bigger fan than my father.
Brings back lots of memories for me too. I lived at Myrtle Beach every summer. All the beach music and radio on the beach. Graduated HS in 1974 so we had the best music ever growing up. Than you for helping me remember those sweet times. ❤
Al Green was the first concert I’ve ever saw I still remember him handing out red roses and I was able to get one. Once he began singing gospel music he never look back I heard it was a terrible fight with a woman that threw a pot of hot grits on him made him change his ways he look deep inside of his self and said if I can make a woman that mad at me I’m doing something wrong and completely gave his life to God Hallelujah Amen

I saw Al Green at the Monterey Jazz Festival about 15 years ago. He was the main headliner of the Sunday night SRO show. Every time he sang a song ( and he sang them all), the audience would take over and sing the entire song. He just stood there smiling and serenading and having a great time. We will never see the likes of that again! Bless you, Mr Green!
I have loved Al Green forever! Wonderful to see him honored. NO one could put as much emotion into his songs, with a breathless whisper or a gravelly growl. Thanks to him for filling so much of my life with his beautiful music.

I fondly remember Al Green performing outside in downtown DC. I was so fortunate to be standing near the stage. When he started to do
what I call his "knee bend and strut".. The One and only Al Green handed me arose. Thank you for the memory Mr Al Green.
