Looking forward to the in depth videos to come Eddie. I'd also by very interested in a video about the Freemen. My personal preference would be a new stadium on castle Leazes. If public opinion has softened in decades since Sir John Hall tried we could have a new stadium built just minutes up Barrack road and we can use St James Park whilst it's being built. Afterwards St James park could be demolished and the land converted into new park land to replace the land taken by the new stadium. Im sure if the owners agreed to cover maintenance costs for the whole of Leazes park and paid to restore it, that would help with public opinion too. Councils don't have the budgets these days to really do it themselves.
Im a freeman of Durham City and we act on the best interests of the City, Do lots of charity work and community engagement along with helping communities in their projects. I would assume Newcastle Freemen will do something similar
If the options were put in front of the fans with plans for a new Mercedes-Benz type mega stadium on the old gas works site for instance, I honestly think the fans would vote to move, especially if your going to be able to hold another 20000 to 30000 in, as much as st James' is loved I don't think you can hold back progress
A new stadium is inevitable, and as much as we love SJP we need an upgrade to satisfy ticket demand and to help us move forward. Ive been going to SJP since the mid 70’s, following this club for 50 years. In all that time I’ve seen us win nothing of significance. If our Saudi owners want to build something to showcase their wealth and ambition then I’m all for it.
@@davetrueman6354 same since 89, every other club whose been in our position has had the same conversations between fans, memories good and bad, a love for the ground and the history but eventually progress wins and you can't move foreward if your looking backwards, if the stadium is moved I'd like to see new Newcastle United museum built somewhere on the site maybe, and somewhere for old duffers like me to sit and remember the great games that were played on that spot
Hi eddy mate, excellent video for debating over, How big do we want the ground, if it can be built at st James all's good, If not (Where), I'll just follow the 80,000 lol, i wish, where ever, it's all exciting time's for the black and white, well-done Eddy 👍
Pull down St james' and rebuild on the same spot. It needs to be seen from everywhere plus even bigger means more places can see it from farther away! Would be a shame to see the old stadium go but new times are here and we must roll with them!
@@jimbobaroobob1418 st James’ Park is listed as a stadium for the Euros. Any potential rebuild would need to be after that. Plus, STACK is going to be there for three years.
Great video as always Eddie. I was just wondering about the land that is immediately to the East of the Utilita Arena site. I'm referring to the land that is between the Redheugh Bridge & King Edward Rail Bridge to the West and East and from Skinnerburn Rd to the South and the Times Square car park / railway sidings to the North. Nobody seems to have noticed this land but as far as I can tell it consists of only a few car parks and warehouse type buildings mainly?? Plus Pottery Lane. I don't know if the aspect / slope would be an issue but when I've thought about this piece of land. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of Newcastle Central Station. Down that alley to the east of Centre for Life, it really is 5 mins. Closer than SJP to major rail and as close as SJP to Metro (if you exclude St. James, which is as much use anyway, for anybody going North/South). To my mind that parcel of land could fit a 75/80k stadium, with fan zones etc. to absorb some of the pre-match traffic. Issues could be the fact that it'd be heavy traffic to the North. Adding to the Redheugh bridge traffic and Scotswood Rd traffic that is already a problem. But the same could be said of SJP, how many people exit and leave up Barrack Rd or to the North? Not many I would have thought, it's mainly down Boulavard or Stowell St / Newgate. What other issues could there be? Do we know who presently owns the land, as I said, it's a few car parks and commercial buildings as far as I can tell. What if it could join the cycle route at the bottom and a new pedestrian bridge be built by the PIF? Would that oil the wheels of local council, also regenerate the surrounding brownfield land you mention in this video. For away fans arriving by train it would be a 5 min walk. For Gateshead fans it would be realistic walking distance. For everyone else it would be similar or still accessible. It could be a modern, purpose built, evenly sided 70-80k stadium, North to South pitch with slight slope, in homage to SJP. I'd love it if you could do a vid researching this, who owns the land, why Pottery Lane couldn't be moved, why the slope to too much etc. etc. to confirm my points and whether it's possible or not. To me it just seems like the perfect spot, Everton building their 52, 888 seat dock, (which seems to be a few hundred bigger than our stadium) has made me believe that there is no place for nostalgia or sentiment. Well there is, but times move on, did the Victorians have nostalgia for the Georgian Era when they moved everything on? No! We have gone from 2nd to 6th or 7th? That simply isn't enough if we want to complete and hopefully you and your viewers agree that adding 5-6k to the back of the Gallowgate, doesn't keep pace with either the pace of change or the demand for tickets. Fans that would add to the clubs revenue FFP wise, fans that could go elsewhere... Let's see if the PIF can buy this car park and Pottery Lane??
Hi Daniel, thank you for the considered idea. I’ve measured that complete piece of land you’re referring too with the Google Maps mapping measuring tool and it’s only 9 acres. St James Park is 11-12 acres as it stands. It’s too small sorry. The land I refer to in the video is around 25 acres and more than big enough to accommodate a larger stadium should that be an option for them 👍🏻
Got to be stay at SJP whatever it takes, even though it may mean a couple of years of inconvenience. A city centre location is invaluable and the envy of most clubs/fans. I went to the Reebok in Bolton when we won 4-0 many years ago. Lovely ground, but miles out of the town centre and on a retail park. Just a bit soulless.
Personally, I feel it's our responsibility to future fans, to have a football stadium exactly where St James' park sits now. Rebuild it. Get the best architects on the planet , to redesign, go deeper, what ever it takes, money doesn't seem to be an issue . Rebuild St James park simple as that
I'm all for building on the Utilita site if it is feasible. Means we can keep the city centre location and use st. James' park whilst umder construction. I fear the expansion of SJP would mean we are back to the same conundrum in 8 years time. Don't waste the time and get it built
Can’t wait for these series of videos. The stadium is such an important part of our city so it could be the most important decisions in recent city history. I’m up for seeing what can be done to SJP in the medium term and only move to a new stadium if a city centre site could be found and we can’t get up to 70k at SJP
The owners should ''donate'' some money to Gateshead FC and build a 25,000 to 30,000-seat stadium there. Use it as a temporary home ground for the toon while they do a complete rebuild of St James'. I think I heard a few months back that the owners wanted to invest in local talent. Having a team in a stone's throw across the river to send players on loan who are in their late teens to gain experience would be invaluable.
great video eddy ive followed your channel for quite some time now and its great to see a fellow geordie giving insight on newcastle with great content as always keep up the good work mate cheers 👍🏻
I love our ground but it’s tired , this could be our only chance to change things so for me an expansion doesn’t cut it as I don’t think we can get enough extra seats to cater for what the demand is so let’s crack on and make a banging new state of the art stadium fit for the future BUT it has to stay on the hill with a bit of jiggery-pokery and a bit of repositioning I’m sure it will fit just fine, just imagine that massive super new stadium lit up towering above all the new construction that’s happened over the past recent years making them all look dated instead of the opposite at present. Oh man I can just see it now 🙌🏻 ⛪️ on the hill 🙏🏻
Hi Eddy, love your videos & your channel. I myself am a freeman of Newcastle, and although a nice big home for NUFC would be nice, I don't believe a new stadium should be built on the Town Moor, as one of our main duties as Freemen is to protect the town moor, where we currently graze several hundred cattle. I can't speak for all Freemen of course, but that is my opinion.
really like this direction you are heading with ya content...more history, more info..i,e freemen of the toon etc.....takes you to another level as oppossed to the pre/post match vids which have reached saturation from other tubers imho...keep on this track mate, cheers
Hi Eddie, a huge conundrum for the owners , the east stand is always going to be an issue, for me and others I speak to the obvious move would be to buy the utilita arena site and build a new stadium there, I know the land has issues but these are surely not surmountable, the area is huge and in a very decent location city wise, Everton’s new ground is being built right by the Mersey and I’m sure there will have been similar issues there, Re using Gateshead stadium or Kingston Park are non starters for me, how you facilitate all season ticket holders would only be the first issue, Looking forward to your upcoming posts on the issue 👍👍
I've always thought the Arena site plus the brown field site alongside would be the best option for a move, one of the biggest issues is the movement of fans in and out of the ground, this works in the city centre but becomes hugely difficult once you move outside of the city, the arena site would also have a lot less battles with local groups against the development.
You can’t always facilitate all season ticket holders. Even if they decided to stay and just expand they couldn’t do it without impacting current capacity while the building works were ongoing.
Personally I don’t have a problem with the owners building a state of the art stadium on the arena site, it’s the only land available which keeps the ground in the city centre. And a new stadium on that site would have no problem seating 100,000 plus, I think this is why they’re asking the fans for their opinion. If an enough fans show interest then it becomes easier to sell the idea.
I’d be very surprised if any new stadium exceeded 70K. The owners will look to optimise capacity rather than maximise. Plus, the survey should resonate loudly that ticket costs will be hiked right up, effectively pricing out a lot of lower income fans
I think Newcastle could fill 80,000 right now that’s without all the success we all hope’s coming our way. Then there’s the away supporters plus the owners are going to want to keep at least 20,000 seats for corporate and foreign visitor’s, remember this grounds being build for future aspirations
@@zulu3621 optimising capacity ensures constant demand and the ability to keep prices high. Maximising stadium capacity is a poor long term business plan
You're not allowed to exceed the capacity of Wembley which is 90,000. It's one of the FAs or PLs rules. They'll be aiming for something similar to Spurs and Arsenal (65,000-70,000).
80,000 seater on the Arena site would be amazing. I love St James’ Park, but to be fair it is nothing like it was when I first started going. Only the east stand remains from my early days and they even tried squeezing a few boxes at the back of the lower tier of that in the 80’s ( more like portaloos with windows if we’re honest 😂) It would be extremely emotional to leave, but I think it will be inevitable if we want to become a top European competitor.
Def rebuild on same spot. St James Park is super unique in its location and vibe and not just for the home fans. Although it’s a nicer stadium Emirates doesn’t have the soul of Highbury. We don’t want to risk losing that here.
Spot on video eddy AGAIN 👍👍 food for thought as they say 🤔 building a new super stadium at leazers park would be the best option if given the green light while still using st James park if it's not possible to up scale the rest of st James 🤔🤔
Im not from Newcastle nor a fan but after looking at google maps theres a huge swathe of land next to the river where the arena is (bordered by skinnerburn road ). Has that site ever been considered
Great video again, Eddy. There are pros and cons to all possibilities. SJP is still a great stadium but a bigger capacity arena with improved facilities would seem the best way to go. Where that would be will probably be a decision that will split fans, especially if it's some way out of the city.
Would have been nice to be able to fill the survey in but once again(same as the ballot) the club fail to email all the members .. Communication from the club to its members has to improve before they think about relocations etc ..
Does anyone recall being told on a stadium tour by one of the guides that NUFC had planning permission to extend or rebuild the East Stand?? It was during the Ashley years so could have been rubbish they were spouting but the guide seemed adamant it was the case!! Love all your videos. 😊
Well edge it into leazes park enough to get a full level all the way around make the surrounding area as green as possible and try incorporating it into the actual building of the stadium like they do in Singapore. Even installing different bat boxes and bird nesting bricks in the north wall overlooking a new bio diverse leazes park with the area that’s left over
I thought I saw a design where the east stand was expanded and incorporated Leazes terrace into the design? Moving to a temporary stadium seems the most expensive if you are building it from scratch, i just cant see that happening.
People dabble with graphics Andrew. I can categorically state that the East Stand incorporating Leazes Tce has been invented in someone’s over active imagination. That won’t happen.
@@andrewrtbaron69 there are no answers at the minute because we don’t know what the fans want or what the owners will do. A couple of things I know what won’t happen though and I’ll be doing some future videos exploring ideas 👍🏻
Very good video for me I got the survey and did want to stay at St James Park but realistically a brand new 75000+ seater purpose built stadium with great views from every seat has to be the way forward.
Good video Eddie, quite a few options, it seems the freeman hold a few cards. I just feel a new stadium is of massive benefit for the whole city, whatever location money cannot be a problem for our owners, my preference is as I've stated before is the area where Sir John Hall wanted to relocate to, ie Leazes park "moor" and that area down by the arena could fit the bill lovely as well, again no bother for our owners to buy out the current owners of that land, and excellent transport links around there obviously, and i live next to there, so that's a big plus for me, just a wee bit selfish haha 😁 Add, like Everton, we could continue playing at SJP, in fact i don't see why we would have to knock it down, so many uses for a brilliant stadium like SJP. So my view is our owners will go down the commercial route build a new stadium and build that revenue. Al rumayyan said he wants us to be no1 well a new stadium to rival anything in the prem, to go with best team in the coming years and of course the best fans. And Eddie your video of that Atlanta Mercedes Benz stadium was mind blowing, we could match that. I'm buzzing for something like that, 75 thousand seater, why not, money is not an issue is it. HWTL.
From what I can see the only site that could ever possible make sense is the old Industrial site near the new Arena thing which seems to be right near Central station. That being said the Cathedral on the Hill and the Gallowgate slope etc are a deep part of the soul of Newcastle Utd so I would rather have a slightly lower capacity and "refurcished" St James Park before ever moving
All very interesting, personally I think a new build and land exchange with Leazes Park seems obvious, I just think if you are rebuilding SJP now too many fans will be displaced plus the Leazes Terrace issue might even crop up again in the not too distant future depending on what is possible presently. No one wants to leave SJP, but if we have to move, the closer we are to our spiritual home the less of an issue that becomes, and could we theoretically even keep the name if a new stadium was built directly behind the Leazes end?
Hi Mark, I’m not sure if I’m understanding you correctly but a new stadium definitely wouldn’t be allowed to be built purely on Leazes Park as a land exchange. This idea has been spread around by people who don’t understand very much about this sort of thing. I discuss the possibility of the owners looking at the Sir John Hall idea from 1997 👍🏻
The city council will NOT want the ground to move outside the city as it will come with a BIG cost to local businesses and change the culture of the town. I think they will do everything they can to help keep the ground where it is or in Leazes park.
For me it's a rebuild of St.James..........,if that happens I wouldn't rule out Murrayfield as a temporary home. Inverness shared with Aberdeen while their new Caledonian Stadium was being built . A distance of 103 miles, they had to travel, not ideal but certainly an option for NUFC and for me better than Sunderland or Boro !!
I see both the pros and cons of both sides , but for me personally, moving the Cathedral on the Hill isn't the answer. It's an immense part of the city skyline and every time I see it, as a born and bred Geordie that's been supporting the Toon for 60 years, it fills me with pride. There are major problems with expanding St James's Park, but it would be the best option for me.
The idea of building a temporary stadium had never occurred to me. Seems like it would make the whole process very costly and drawn out, perhaps unfeasible? Are you aware of a precedent for such a plan Eddy? (One suiting a club of Newcastle's size/required infrastructure etc)
Great video mate, but why exactly are you opposed for Newcastle to temporarily play at the Stadium of Light? If a stadium rebuild was to go ahead, the club would need ticketing income to keep finances afloat, surely this is the best solution. There is of course the option of playing at Riverside aswell, however the commute for many fans would be a major issue.
I discuss other alternatives in the video for temporary solutions. As for SOL, some things need to be protected and isolated in terms of their respective history and heritage meanings. That deep rooted social identity goes beyond money and business
Me being a Geordie, but i live now in Rugeley, Staffordshire, my personal opinion, i would love for Newcastle to have a chance to buy a season ticket and to do this we need a bigger stadium, all me family have season tickets, but i still love St James Park ,but I've always have done TOON ARMY TOON ARMY TOON
Why not look at hunters moor about a mile up barracks road near the Central motorway perfect spot for a state of the art stadium and training facilities
Hello eddie been a while since i commented but personally i would love to see a new stadium built on the arena site big enough for a new training centre aswell would be perfect baiscaly in city centre not far from.bars could ferry any away fans in easier aswell from central station love st james park but we need to go big now and have the best and yes please do a video on the freemans of newcastle always wondered what the heck they are haha have a very merry chirstmas mate !!
Hi Daniel, the Arena site wouldn’t be big enough for training facilities, even if a stadium wasn’t there. Man City’s training site is around 80 acres. We’d need something similar. The Arena land is around 25-30.
Ooh yes man I seen on one of ur previous videos hmm hopefully they should find somewhere for that then but I think what they have now should do for a few more years get the stadium sorted first make do with what they have its alot better than it used to bee these days haha
Great video Eddy, as always. I know we will get the facts on your channel. Will be looking out for the video about the Freemen, absolutely know nothing about them. Should events go this way, playing at Gateshead Stadium, perhaps with some new stands, that would maybe give them a help up aswell. One question, and maybe I'm a bit slow, but say the fans want to move completely, are the owners obliged to do this or can they say, no it's now cost prohibitive or whatever?
Hi Gary. The owners wouldn’t be obliged to move, no. The survey isn’t asking the fans to make such a comprehensive decision, it’s just asking their views, should the owners look to rebuild. 👍🏻
I lived in Jesmond in 1990 and used to play footy on the Town Moor every week and remember saying "Why dont they build a massive new stadium here?" (St James park wasnt great back then).
Given a choice I’d relocate to Castle Leazes/Leazes Park with a stadium that has world class facilities and security perimeters like other great stadiums. Unfortunately, our current footprint is just too much of a tight squeeze.
Looking forward to the videos to come Eddie. Quite a few conundrums with each of the proposals. Would hate to see the stadium moved away from the existing site, however wouldn't be adverse to a move into leazes park effectively keeping us in the same area, That way other local businesses wouldn't suffer from a move away. If it haappens that we were to move away, I feel it would need to be in the man city mold, with full training facilities and everything the club needs on one site. giving the club the ability to expand again if it was needed years down the line. The arena site although still big enough for a stadium feels like it would be a little cramped and not allowing future proofing on the new build site. keep up the videos mate, appreciate the content. HWL
Hi Eddy. Thanks for al your work of getting us informed on the future stadium. It is very informative. I'm not a local but have a stadium-tic. That's why i follow all the news globaly. My reaction to the options as given by you is very simpel in my humble openion. You can only look at the outcome. I've you want to play with the big boys, build a 75.000 or more seater. Every other option will be not enough. What do you think that Real Madrid/Barcelona make every game? Liverpool, man united, city, spurs en earlyer Arsenal understood this. They are building on this moment. I've you are waiting a year for a surfey to come out en then start planning, you wil be 4 to 5 years further. Cheers and a lot of succes.
Hi Eddie I was thinking the other day I hope Eddie makes a video on potential locations etc. 😂 can't wait to see more in-depth videos on this. Can you potentially put on what the new ground could possibly look like. I'm thinking it will be American themed with Darren eales links to America ie one of the pics they put in the survey was of the raiders ground which if you've seen it is out of this world this it the type of ground that would put nufc on the map and make people take notice. Have a look at some of these nfl grounds off the scale. Love these type of videos you do Eddie really good stuff 👌
I also look at what Darren built ( Mercedes Benz stadium) and really hope something like this is built ( if we rebuild) . Something like that would be awesome and amplify the acoustics.
@@darrenbrown86you can’t beat the ground in America they are off the scale the SoFi stadium is off the grid also. I believe if we come up with proper images to showcase a new ground the fans would be on board I’m convinced of that 👌
@@TynesideLife unfortunately I wasn't given an official vote in the process but you can't stand in the way of progress and the future, it has to be bright and large, emotions of the past are irrelevant to a golden future!
The ground you stand on would be perfect to do a Tottenham and move it slightly and take advantage of that space because I think relocation ain't the answer look at stadiums what's moved like at arsenal no atmosphere I'd like to see the other two stands turned into new stands like the big stand that is existing
They could refurbish St James Part stand by stand - similar to what Real Madrid have been doing, so that there are 3 sides usable at any given time. Alternatively if there was a temporary relocation required to get it all done quicker then I would say that the Gateshead stadium with temporary upgraded seating makes most sense even if capacity is only as much as 30k for a little while
As much as i dont want to move St James, i cant help but be curious by what PIF would build. We havent really seen them flex yet because of FFP, but with the money they throw at other sports youd think theyd spend crazy money on a new stadium that theyd want to be the best in the world
Money on club infrastructure doesn’t fall under ffp. It’s taking a long time to make stadium plans due to the complexity of the position of the ground and its surroundings.
Thanks for being honest about my team Everton and not pulling them to bits👍 yes you had players out but we had our midfield out along with a much smaller squad than yourselves.. Really looking forward the your stadium future and hope it turns out as good as ours?
@@geordiegamingchannel728 it’s a Grade I listed building. Buying it doesn’t allow the owners to demolish it. It’s a building of special historical interest and protected at Parliament level. 👍🏻
Keep location but rebuild the whole stadium/area. We shouldn't build a 60+k stadium elsewhere and not being able to keep a solid top 6 position in the league.
The sage icc is struggling for viability even after scrapping the hotel from the scheme. If the conference centre is scrapped there could there be an opportunity to use this space for a new nufc stadium. There is a carpark already built. Gateshead is desperate for investment.
Great idea but two huge problems. The land is only around 8 acres and too small for a stadium. St James’ Park is around 11 acres. secondly, you just have to have the Newcastle United stadium in the city it represents
either refurb SJP or metro/leazes for me.... leazes more land but mertro has insane potential, id love to see it but dont think its feasable to demo SJP and move elsewhere for a few years
I personally think the Newcastle crest needs simplifying, just like how Arsenal and Spurs simplified theres. As for the stadium, a move would be better as you'd be able to achieve a greater capacity and have a state of the art stadium. A rebuild is possible, but where would you play for two years while the stadium is being redeveloped? So many questions, very little answers.
I can’t see any other solution than building a new stadium in another location We will outgrow St James’ park even with an increase in capacity Bigger clubs than us have moved from iconic grounds and we might play at St James’ park but the stadium has changed so much over the years anyway We also need to look at what other top sides are doing such as Barcelona and Real Madrid I watched a video of what the improvements will bring to Real Madrid and the increase in revenue the stadium will make them We need to embrace the ambition of these new owners and roll with it I would be sad to see the end of St James’ but it would definitely be for the greater good
St James park iconic of course, not many would want to move to another location…but imagine what u could have with the right designs, 80,000 seater with designs better then Dortmund and spurs to keep that atmosphere, everything new and fresh black and white, spurs stadium is years ahead of anything else, take your vision there as you Newcastle fans already have the best fan base
@@TynesideLifeI will always say that it’s OK to move even though you’re basically erasing history. But, as long as as there are people who know and love the club, it’s never really gone. What’s more important is securing the club’s future, moving the club into the 21st century.
Edge the stadium into Leazes park rotate the pitch to get full level all the way round and give it a lick of paint. As for the wildlife make the area around the ground as green as possible and create a new wetland on a bit of the town moor with bird hides and everything
Rotating the stadium wouldn’t allow for a full level stadium as it’ll still sit beside Leazes Tce. The diagrams for a 90 degree rotation was never a ‘thing’ it was just someone dabbling with ideas
Play at gateshead stadium for a year and rebuild st james, the location is too iconic to not be located where it is, furthest away the stadium should be is the moore but thats obviously a whole host of other hurdles
if we are to move to the next level it has to be a new stadium. built correctly the atmosphere can be re gained in a new huge stadium. SJP too small to compete with the bigger clubs.
This might be a totally noob question but are there any limits on how much the owners plough into infrastructure the same as how much they have limits on how much they can spend on players etc? Aye do a video on the Freemen I know nothing about them mate.

The land I refer to in the video is around 25 acres and more than big enough to accommodate a larger stadium should that be an option for them 👍🏻
I love your in depth analysis on this situation. It’s great work Eddy.
🙏👊🏻
Got to be stay at SJP whatever it takes, even though it may mean a couple of years of inconvenience. A city centre location is invaluable and the envy of most clubs/fans. I went to the Reebok in Bolton when we won 4-0 many years ago. Lovely ground, but miles out of the town centre and on a retail park. Just a bit soulless.
Been there too. Was a nice looking stadium shape wise but next to Tesco and Halfords in the middle of bum f🥔 nowhere
Can’t wait to see these videos of all these proposals Ed. Very interested in the work of the Freemen of Newcastle
Cheers James 👍🏻
Personally, I feel it's our responsibility to future fans, to have a football stadium exactly where St James' park sits now.
Rebuild it. Get the best architects on the planet , to redesign, go deeper, what ever it takes, money doesn't seem to be an issue . Rebuild St James park simple as that
Pulled down SJP completely and rebuild roughly on the same spot where it fits
Rebuild at SJP, temporary stadium on town moor for 2 years.
Great vid mate, looking forward to the Freeman vid (not the hospital).
😃
Great video Eddie. Build a new stadium, build it big.
Biggest in the world! 100k+ capacity
👊🏻👍🏻
The owners should ''donate'' some money to Gateshead FC and build a 25,000 to 30,000-seat stadium there. Use it as a temporary home ground for the toon while they do a complete rebuild of St James'. I think I heard a few months back that the owners wanted to invest in local talent. Having a team in a stone's throw across the river to send players on loan who are in their late teens to gain experience would be invaluable.
I'm with you on that. Love to see Gateshead back in the football league. For me, be great to see a local club rise up the leagues.
Mate they barely get 1k every week, imagine giving them a 20-30k seater stadium.
Good video Eddie you always do give us great content.
You stay safe 👍

great video eddy ive followed your channel for quite some time now and its great to see a fellow geordie giving insight on newcastle with great content as always keep up the good work mate cheers 👍🏻
Cheers Brian 👊🏻
👍🏻
Looking forward to the mini series that’s “coming up” great content as always mate 👍
Cheers Tim 👊🏻
Hi Eddy, love your videos & your channel. I myself am a freeman of Newcastle, and although a nice big home for NUFC would be nice, I don't believe a new stadium should be built on the Town Moor, as one of our main duties as Freemen is to protect the town moor, where we currently graze several hundred cattle. I can't speak for all Freemen of course, but that is my opinion.
Cheers Tim 👍🏻 thanks for reaching out. Would you be able to email please on enquiries@tynesidelife.com 👍🏻

Unless the listed buildings can be moved in someway, it seems moving could be inevitable. 😢
I’m negligibly certain that buildings won’t be moved but then moving depends on what the fans have voted for
Hi Eddie, a huge conundrum for the owners , the east stand is always going to be an issue, for me and others I speak to the obvious move would be to buy the utilita arena site and build a new stadium there, I know the land has issues but these are surely not surmountable, the area is huge and in a very decent location city wise, Everton’s new ground is being built right by the Mersey and I’m sure there will have been similar issues there,
Re using Gateshead stadium or Kingston Park are non starters for me, how you facilitate all season ticket holders would only be the first issue,
Looking forward to your upcoming posts on the issue 👍👍
Cheers 👍🏻
I've always thought the Arena site plus the brown field site alongside would be the best option for a move, one of the biggest issues is the movement of fans in and out of the ground, this works in the city centre but becomes hugely difficult once you move outside of the city, the arena site would also have a lot less battles with local groups against the development.
You can’t always facilitate all season ticket holders. Even if they decided to stay and just expand they couldn’t do it without impacting current capacity while the building works were ongoing.
rebuilt the stadium with a trackable roof to open and close
Only the east stand remains from my early days and they even tried squeezing a few boxes at the back of the lower tier of that in the 80’s ( more like portaloos with windows if we’re honest 😂)
It would be extremely emotional to leave, but I think it will be inevitable if we want to become a top European competitor.
St James’s Park is an iconic stadium in this country because it’s bang in the middle of the city centre, the cathedral on the hill we can’t move man
Def rebuild on same spot. St James Park is super unique in its location and vibe and not just for the home fans. Although it’s a nicer stadium Emirates doesn’t have the soul of Highbury. We don’t want to risk losing that here.
Rebuild at st James park stadium then end up using Darlington arena as our temporary home ground while st James park stadium on a rebuilt
Spot on video eddy AGAIN 👍👍 food for thought as they say 🤔 building a new super stadium at leazers park would be the best option if given the green light while still using st James park if it's not possible to up scale the rest of st James 🤔🤔
👊🏻👍🏻
Im not from Newcastle nor a fan but after looking at google maps theres a huge swathe of land next to the river where the arena is (bordered by skinnerburn road ). Has that site ever been considered
I discuss it in the video 👍🏻
If id not paused to comment and carried on watching for another few seconds id have seen you discuss it !.

Would love to hear more about the Freemen of Newcastle Eddy. My great great grandad and his father were Freemen but don’t know much about them.
How come you’re not a Freemen Ian?
@@TynesideLife I only found out recently when looking into the family tree. Not sure how it works or who becomes one.
It’s a position that’s traditionally passed down through the generations Ian
@@TynesideLife sorry just looked back at the records, it was in 1774 and his son in 1830 so probably more than great great 😝😂😂
Great video again, Eddy. There are pros and cons to all possibilities. SJP is still a great stadium but a bigger capacity arena with improved facilities would seem the best way to go. Where that would be will probably be a decision that will split fans, especially if it's some way out of the city.
Hi Ian, I’m negligibly certain any new stadium wouldn’t be outside the city. Fans would need to approve that and I just can’t see that happening
😃🖤
Would have been nice to be able to fill the survey in but once again(same as the ballot) the club fail to email all the members .. Communication from the club to its members has to improve before they think about relocations etc ..
Does anyone recall being told on a stadium tour by one of the guides that NUFC had planning permission to extend or rebuild the East Stand??
It was during the Ashley years so could have been rubbish they were spouting but the guide seemed adamant it was the case!!
Love all your videos. 😊
I’m pretty sure it was made up Clare 😀
Well edge it into leazes park enough to get a full level all the way around make the surrounding area as green as possible and try incorporating it into the actual building of the stadium like they do in Singapore. Even installing different bat boxes and bird nesting bricks in the north wall overlooking a new bio diverse leazes park with the area that’s left over
I'm thinking tear down and rebuild. Probably most feasible.
look forward to videos on this toplc ,awkward as it is going to be tough to sort out one way or the other, great content as always thanking you

Would love to hear more about the freemen of Newcastle!
👍🏻👊🏻
As a Newcastle fan I am very against a new stadium encroaching on Leazes park. Newcastle is lacking green space in the centre as it is.
@@TynesideLife After consideration then Eddie it's a new stadium in Leazes Park with a land switch with St James.
@@andrewrtbaron69 that definitely won’t happen Andrew 😬
Well then I give up, what's the answer LOL. Nimbys left and right. Just do nowt!!
@@andrewrtbaron69 there are no answers at the minute because we don’t know what the fans want or what the owners will do.
A couple of things I know what won’t happen though and I’ll be doing some future videos exploring ideas 👍🏻

👊🏻👍🏻
Very good video for me I got the survey and did want to stay at St James Park but realistically a brand new 75000+ seater purpose built stadium with great views from every seat has to be the way forward.
Good video Eddie, quite a few options, it seems the freeman hold a few cards. I just feel a new stadium is of massive benefit for the whole city, whatever location money cannot be a problem for our owners, my preference is as I've stated before is the area where Sir John Hall wanted to relocate to, ie Leazes park "moor"
and that area down by the arena could fit the bill lovely as well, again no bother for our owners to buy out the current owners of that land, and excellent transport links around there obviously, and i live next to there, so that's a big plus for me, just a wee bit selfish haha 😁
Add, like Everton, we could continue playing at SJP, in fact i don't see why we would have to knock it down, so many uses for a brilliant stadium like SJP.
HWTL.
Cheers Davey ☝️👊🏻
I discuss the possibility of the owners looking at the Sir John Hall idea from 1997 👍🏻
@@TynesideLife Ah ok, my misunderstanding, it's a tricky one. Great vids though Eddie 👍
The city council will NOT want the ground to move outside the city as it will come with a BIG cost to local businesses and change the culture of the town.
I think they will do everything they can to help keep the ground where it is or in Leazes park.
I did not get the survey despite having ticked box for all comms.
Drop them a message to get the survey 👍🏻
We need to move with the times. As iconic and as loved as SJP is, it no longer meets our needs. New stadium please.
👍🏻
I'd like to know a bit more about who the Freemen are and their duties.
👍🏻
The idea of building a temporary stadium had never occurred to me. Seems like it would make the whole process very costly and drawn out, perhaps unfeasible? Are you aware of a precedent for such a plan Eddy? (One suiting a club of Newcastle's size/required infrastructure etc)
I’ll be covering that in an upcoming video Tim 👍🏻
use gateshead stadium
@@garymcburnie8323 see video #1 Gary 👍🏻
Great video mate, but why exactly are you opposed for Newcastle to temporarily play at the Stadium of Light? If a stadium rebuild was to go ahead, the club would need ticketing income to keep finances afloat, surely this is the best solution. There is of course the option of playing at Riverside aswell, however the commute for many fans would be a major issue.
I discuss other alternatives in the video for temporary solutions. As for SOL, some things need to be protected and isolated in terms of their respective history and heritage meanings. That deep rooted social identity goes beyond money and business
Me being a Geordie, but i live now in Rugeley, Staffordshire, my personal opinion, i would love for Newcastle to have a chance to buy a season ticket and to do this we need a bigger stadium, all me family have season tickets, but i still love St James Park ,but I've always have done

If we had to move or relocate then yes but I hope we don’t have to but if we do move we don’t want our atmosphere to ruin the chanting and singing etc

👍🏻
Why not look at hunters moor about a mile up barracks road near the Central motorway perfect spot for a state of the art stadium and training facilities
The likely area of land is Castle Leazes that Sir John Hall planned for in 1997. The Freemen gave their permission for this 👍🏻

@@TynesideLife thanks for clearing that up, cheers Eddy,
Would be a shame for the business directly around st James’ park if the stadium moves too far away, such as the strawberry and mean eyed cat
If the stadium moves it’s extremely unlikely it’ll move out of the city centre.
I lived in Jesmond in 1990 and used to play footy on the Town Moor every week and remember saying "Why dont they build a massive new stadium here?" (St James park wasnt great back then).
I discuss this in the video 👍🏻
I'd prefer to pull.down and rebuild.. even though that choice will probably take the longest.. what did you vote mate?
Given a choice I’d relocate to Castle Leazes/Leazes Park with a stadium that has world class facilities and security perimeters like other great stadiums. Unfortunately, our current footprint is just too much of a tight squeeze.
@TynesideLife tbh mate, that's a brilliant take on it.. never really looked at it like that.
HWL
Cheers bud. A new training site needs to be at least 60 acres and there’s nowhere in the city centre to accommodate that.
Thanks for watching and please watch videos 2 and 3 👍🏻

Hi Eddie I was thinking the other day I hope Eddie makes a video on potential locations etc. 😂 can't wait to see more in-depth videos on this. Can you potentially put on what the new ground could possibly look like. I'm thinking it will be American themed with Darren eales links to America ie one of the pics they put in the survey was of the raiders ground which if you've seen it is out of this world this it the type of ground that would put nufc on the map and make people take notice. Have a look at some of these nfl grounds off the scale. Love these type of videos you do Eddie really good stuff 👌

@@TynesideLife unfortunately I wasn't given an official vote in the process but you can't stand in the way of progress and the future, it has to be bright and large, emotions of the past are irrelevant to a golden future!
I think they should build a bigger stadium
The ground you stand on would be perfect to do a Tottenham and move it slightly and take advantage of that space because I think relocation ain't the answer look at stadiums what's moved like at arsenal no atmosphere I'd like to see the other two stands turned into new stands like the big stand that is existing
The ground I’m stood on isn’t next to the stadium Chris 😅
They could refurbish St James Part stand by stand - similar to what Real Madrid have been doing, so that there are 3 sides usable at any given time. Alternatively if there was a temporary relocation required to get it all done quicker then I would say that the Gateshead stadium with temporary upgraded seating makes most sense even if capacity is only as much as 30k for a little while
You can't polish this turd. A renovation/rebuild won't be the same as a new one built from the ground up on a bigger site without restrictions.
Imagine a super stadium where st James park is man it would be unreal
imagining is all you can do, because there's no space.

Keep location but rebuild the whole stadium/area. We shouldn't build a 60+k stadium elsewhere and not being able to keep a solid top 6 position in the league.
The sage icc is struggling for viability even after scrapping the hotel from the scheme. If the conference centre is scrapped there could there be an opportunity to use this space for a new nufc stadium. There is a carpark already built. Gateshead is desperate for investment.
Great idea but two huge problems. The land is only around 8 acres and too small for a stadium. St James’ Park is around 11 acres. secondly, you just have to have the Newcastle United stadium in the city it represents
either refurb SJP or metro/leazes for me.... leazes more land but mertro has insane potential, id love to see it but dont think its feasable to demo SJP and move elsewhere for a few years
Didn’t receive the survey, season ticket holder x2 since 1958!
Have you updated your contact preferences on the NUFC website?
Will check, but I receive regular emails regarding tickets.
No need for new. Bring back old terraces for both ends so u can increase capasity easily and get better atmosphere
Cheers Lee, I discuss a couple of temporary relocations solutions in the video 👍🏻
I can’t see any other solution than building a new stadium in another location
We will outgrow St James’ park even with an increase in capacity
Bigger clubs than us have moved from iconic grounds and we might play at St James’ park but the stadium has changed so much over the years anyway
We also need to look at what other top sides are doing such as Barcelona and Real Madrid
I watched a video of what the improvements will bring to Real Madrid and the increase in revenue the stadium will make them
We need to embrace the ambition of these new owners and roll with it
I would be sad to see the end of St James’ but it would definitely be for the greater good
St James park iconic of course, not many would want to move to another location…but imagine what u could have with the right designs, 80,000 seater with designs better then Dortmund and spurs to keep that atmosphere, everything new and fresh black and white, spurs stadium is years ahead of anything else, take your vision there as you Newcastle fans already have the best fan base

Play at gateshead stadium for a year and rebuild st james, the location is too iconic to not be located where it is, furthest away the stadium should be is the moore but thats obviously a whole host of other hurdles
I’ll be discussing this in more depth in a separate video although I covered the GatesheadStadium idea in my previous video 👍🏻
if we are to move to the next level it has to be a new stadium. built correctly the atmosphere can be re gained in a new huge stadium. SJP too small to compete with the bigger clubs.
Do a video on the Freemans please
👍🏻
This might be a totally noob question but are there any limits on how much the owners plough into infrastructure the same as how much they have limits on how much they can spend on players etc? Aye do a video on the Freemen I know nothing about them mate.
Hi Martin, they’re two different pots so the club in theory could spend what they want on infrastructure.
Hope it's still in city centre
Great vid.
