If you've made it this far in the description, remember to be safe when creature adventuring! Most wild animals can cause injury if harassed, and I do not recommend attempting to capture any creatures without purpose and practice. The reason that I interact with wildlife is to produce these educational videos, and I have years of zoology experience under my belt. Also, I always ask permission from a land owner before exploring on their property, and you should do the same.
Keep adventuring everywhere, and keep your adventures safe at all times!

I have a couple different brush piles in my yard, specifically designated for king snake habitat. I've not seen a copperhead in years and they keep the rodents out of my chicken feed. They're my favorite snakes by far!!
That's awesome, definitely the best way to keep copperheads away!
@@TheWildReportOfficial All snakes are important people need to learn to live with them and at the same time protect your family from snake bites.
@@RKoen2006 I agree!
@@RKoen2006 People are nuts with snakes- No need to even try to teach them they are mostly harmless - waste of time
I live in copperhead heaven. Today I saw a king snake and absolutely rejoiced.
North Carolina?

1k thumbs-upper! Wooo!!! Great video bro!
Thanks man!
Lived on this family farm in ne grady co., ga. For 75 years. Just now walking our dog and came up on 5-6ft. Kingsgate, the first have seen since a small boy. Watch it as it went about its way. Very glad to see it in our woods. So far this year I have killed a total of 11 rattler and cottonmouths in and around our yard. Hope the king will help control their numbers. Really enjoyed your program. Thanks and God bless you.
Kings definitely keep other snake populations in check, but even the rattlers and cottons are ecologically important. I'll come relocate them if you want!
This video is very good because it explains well about the king snake, and in Brazil there aren't many videos about it, so it's a great recommendation for people to learn about a king snake
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed!
Nice shots. Greetings from Italy :)
Thank you! Greetings from the US :)
Love your ch. you deserve many more subs keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the support!
Your editing keeps getting better and better man, amazing work! I love the cinematic intro, it really does a nice job of introducing the habitat without even needing words, that's a very unique touch. Eastern Kings seem like the coolest and most relaxed snakes to work with, I have to find one in the wild one day. Every video you put out makes me want to come to NC more and more, that's definitely on our travel bucket list for 2021. (You heard it here first!) Awesome fact delivery as always, I did learn a bunch of new things in this video as I always do. Keep up the great work Ben!
- Harrison and Evan
I really appreciate the kind words guys! I enjoy making these cinematic ones every once in a while to change things up from my standard intro. Also yes, please come to NC! Spring herping 2021 would be so much fun.
That’s the goal man! We have so many species to check off, and you’re always welcome up north in the summer!
I found Beavis and Butthead aka Evan and Harrison
Appreciation to you for sharing your passion.
Me and a couple buddies was play down at the creek once. Coming back up the trail there was one if these 5 6 feet long. We went around it but. Then it chased us up the trail Maybe 10 yards. I couldn't get over how fast it was.
Oh If love to run across one of those!! Great video as always!!
Thanks Janet! There's a decent chance of seeing them during the day right now with the weather being so nice.
I have one of these hanging out around my house. I followed him around this morning while he was on the hunt.
That's so cool!
I still need to find one of those guys! We supposedly have em out in Johnston County but I've only ever seen mole kings and rat snakes
I need mole king, you need Eastern king, I see a trade xD
I’ve recently purchased an Eastern Kingsnake in Wake County, which is not far from Johnston County. Check around some Petco stores in Raleigh.
One surprised me this morning. I live in Georgia, South Atlanta Metro
I was happy to see him and by the the black and green look of him, believed he was harmless. Had to identify him to make sure. Was about to hold him but didnt wanna bother him. Looked healthy and full adult length at about 4 and half feet
That's awesome, there's a bunch of cool king snake research in that area!
My favorite snake too and we have several living on our property along the Tar river in Franklin County, NC.
That's awesome, one day I hope to have property with a good king snake population!
Very informative and interesting, but brief! Thank you for uploading this video. ☺️👍
Thanks Selena, glad you enjoyed!
The Wild Report Of course! ✨
Oh, almost 20,000 subscribers! Great video btw.
I know, you guys are awesome! And thank you.
One of my favorite snakes. Love that introduction to today’s video. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Marie, I also thought the introduction came out nicely. Cheers!
The Wild Report I am finally living out one of my lifelong dreams. I am getting licensed in my State of Connecticut to be a wildlife rehabilitation person. It’s strictly non paying but I’m retired anyway and sometimes you get REPTILES!!! 😁😁 After successfully raising everything from a Red Tailed Hawk to skunks and turtles and EVERYTHING in between I’d say it’s about time. !!
@@mariemaroney7891 That is SO COOL! Congratulations on the new license. I'm sure you'll be able to help out even more animals now :)
Very impressed. You're channel is getting better by the video. If he only crossed your path right after he was out of the blue,.... Sooo pretty. Another great find! I only got 5 different species this year. bow the wait for spring. Be well, be safe, God bless. [ Bob Appledate] has an excellent book on Lampropeltids, worth the read.
Thanks man, really glad to hear that you have been enjoying my content. I'll have to check out that book!
I am in Tabor City N C and I just saw a beautiful Eastern King Snake. Thank you for your information. D.
Awesome, glad this was helpful!
Outstanding videos!
Glad you think so!
Still need to find my lifer eastern king! Great video and very informative!
Roads at dawn and dusk and pine forests are the way to go man. Also thanks for the support!
I was looking to identify a couple of snakes I found in my yard in northern alabama today, I have a video I was hoping to share, but don’t see how to post a video, I believe it was 2 King snakes mating they were all twisted up and went on for awhile, it’s was pretty cool to see! Thanks for the great information you shared!
Dang that's crazy!
I live in NC, about an hour east of Charlotte. I’ve seen 2 of these in my yard since living here. The first one I got scared because my 2 year old son got close to it so I pulled my son away and there was no reaction from the snake. My cousin happen to see it so he killed it. I noticed that immediately after that there was a copperhead close by but it was killed by a car as I live on the highway. I had to do my research because I don’t like snakes but since this is one of the few that are beneficial, I don’t mess with them. I saw the second one yesterday and it just didn’t react to either me or my son and carried on it’s way.
Just to clarify. All snakes are beneficial to the eco-system. This one just has the added benefit to humans...keeping away pit vipers.
Just found out the hay under our porch is home to a female black and yellow Eastern king snake is attracting males . I’m terrified of snakes but hearing you talking they are good it helps me settle down and try to coexist with them.
Glad you are overcoming your fears, and that I can be a part of that process!
I love the scripture verse in your video description. God bless, you gained a sub today :)
Thanks very much! I'm so blessed to be able to show people the wonder's of creation here on my channel!
I spotted one a few days ago in the sand dunes on Hatteras island . I didn’t recognize the species but was fairly sure it was not venomous. However I didn’t take any chances and just watched it disappear into the brush.
I’m always stoked to find something new and was sure to take mental notes of its markings etc , so I could look it up on google.
Didn’t know it hunts other snakes either.
Good nugget of info , thanks
That's so cool! The kings on OBX are really beautiful, such a nice find.
Yes sir, snakes are fascinating and beneficial creatures to have around. About two years ago I found a Cottonmouth in Buxton. He was just chillin in the sand along the edge of the pathway at ramp 45 pedestrian only, beach access . I decided to relocate that one due to the barefoot traffic along that path . I put him in my empty bait cooler and took him to the salt marsh far from pedestrians
funny story....I was swinging on vines in the woods with my cousins.....me being the lucky one that I am, my vine snapped in mid air and I ended up landing right beside a King Snake! man was I lucky it wasnt something else..hehe
Just found one sunning near my front steps. Few miles west of Kennesaw, GA.
That's so neat, I want a doorstep king snake!
by me first watching this video it just saved a king snakes life. my wife is not too happy about it though.
Fun vid! Gotta visit the eastern states so I can see one of these beauties. Thanks!
Thank you, it's definitely worth trying to see them in person!
The CHAIN KINGSNAKE aka eastern grows to 6 feet long
Odd you did this video today, I was redoing the lights in my shop and kept finding copperhead skins. Then the last light I took down, was a 1½ long king snake. I just let him be. Great video bud 👍🏼
That's so cool, glad you left him alone!
@@TheWildReportOfficial
I was just glad I didn't see any copperheads !!!! Lol !!!! Not a big fan of sticking my hand in a tool box and finding one 😁!!!
Thank you for the video now I know what kind of snake I have out back of my house.
I think these snakes are amazing they've been protecting my RV for like 6 months and just scared the complete crap out of my girl and it was hilarious and I still am letting it live in the RV LOL
Haha that's awesome
Can't go wrong with an E. King. That thing is going to be amazing looking after the shed.
I know man, we tried to flip him again later but he had moved on.
@@TheWildReportOfficial every girl crazy bout a sharp dressed snake.
Beautiful. Liked it my friend.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
We've got a rather large one around our barn and pump house. Even some of the barn cats have fallen victim to Big George!
Wow, that thing must be enormous!
@@TheWildReportOfficial The State says they can reach 9 feet but I was able to stretch him out along the barn foundation and he's more like 12 feet. His head is as big as my fist and he's as big around as my forearm and I am not a little feller! Been living here 20 years and have never had a copperhead on the farm but my neighbors get them all the time!
@@rakentrail That's crazy.
King snakes are really good snakes and it’s a good thing they’re not dangerous🐍
Awesome video!! Kingsnakes are so pretty. I've never found one, but I really want to
Thanks Chris! I love them, the best way to look is hiking pine forests or road cruising at sunset or sunrise.
Cool, thanks!
I own something with similar markings to an eastern kingsnake, but he is 6.5ft long, any idea what he might be?
Beautiful
Thanks Heather, he was definitely gorgeous!
Cool, merci.
Glad you enjoyed!
Interesting
I have a nice pair of w/c kings im going to breed next spring from wayne county ..
Do most king snakes have blue eyes. I live in NW GA. I wish I had more king snakes. I saw a black rat snake while cutting grass and I just stopped the mower and watched him. He finally went under my shed where I know there are some rats around it.
Nope, that's only when they are in shed! Oh cool, love rat snakes.
I have a question. Are red-bellied snakes rare in the Piedmont of NC? I have never found one before but tonight on a walk, I found a dead one on the road. Do you know if they are rare here? Or maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough.
I would say so, I see way more Dekay's brown snakes.
I just found a 4 footer living in a hole in a cedar tree. The hole is 8 foot up the tree. It to is in shed.
Woah, that's pretty rare! Kings don't climb that often. Neat observation!
Cool snake
They are so sick!
the bands in this area of n.c. , randolph co., are yellow. i'd like to see that one after it sheds.
Oh wow, that sounds beautiful! Love the regional variation in king banding coloration.
I'm trying to figure out if this is the "weird" snake I saw recently in my area. I live in Pennsylvania and the king snake isn't ome of "our" snakes. Perhaps they are escaped/released pets. I could also be misidentifying them, of course.
I'm a little worried because they were in an area with queensnakes and I just saw a northern watersnake this year too. I don't want them to get eaten. :(
Nice king. I found one in Union County, Illinois.
Thanks! What species do y'all get out there?
We found one today devouring a younger eastern king snake of similar size 😳 we’ve seen about 5 since mid spring in NC. I love them! I just hope they leave enough lizards to protect my garden from the bugs!
That's epic! I've never seen a king feeding, let alone on another snake, so I'm kind of jealous. They tend to prefer mammals and other snakes over lizards so you should be fine.
@@TheWildReportOfficial it was incredible to witness and I’m glad they’re around!
Another thing. I didn’t know that snakes are color blind. Amazing how well defined it is though.
We aren't actually 100% sure what colors they can and cannot see, but yeah that pattern is amazing!
I had one just now enter one of my coups that contains a baby chicken and had to shoo it away from it. I didn't want the snake to kill the baby bird.
King snakes don't eat birds *too* often, but they definitely won't pass up an easy meal.
I want to see more of them rattlesnake and copperheads are no good these kings serve a purpose wonderful snakes
Well all snakes are helpful for rodent control, but king snakes are definitely wonderful!
Do they bite? If I see one, can I pick it up? Any special way to pick it up?
They can bite but rarely do, as long as you support its bodyweight it should be fine.
Is it true they coil up and bounce to escape predators?
Sadly no because that would be epic
My wife spotted a king snake in her flower bed today.
Hey Ben is it true that King Snakes get their immunity to venom from the snakes they eat?
No, they are immune from birth!
@@TheWildReportOfficial funny the myths you grow up not understanding, but only because that’s what other people told you when you asked, but it was logical. Thank You.
I just saw one why cutting my grass. He was hurting something. I wish I could add my video.
You can post it on Facebook or Twitter and tag me @thewildreport and I'll see it!
I saw one walking from the basketball court it almost bit me
How biggest are these snakes?
Some can be up to six feet long!

Kings eating the vipers is an old wives tale. I used to have a lot of both and now only copperheads. So I'm doing the work that they didn't. A snake is snake is a snake when they're getting in my buildings and shop.
