Best Snake EVER! Eastern Kingsnake

  • Eastern Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) is a BEAUTIFUL large Black and white snake. These colubrid snakes are NON VENOMOUS which means they are NOT dangerous snakes at all!! I cannot stress that enough. Kingsnakes actually eat other snakes including dangerous or venomous snakes. That means that if you see a King snake on your property, you should be very happy, because they eat copperheads, rattlesnakes and other snakes and also eat mice, rats and other rodents. They can be about 5 feet long and are mostly black with a white chain-link pattern on their bodies with white "teeth" looking markings on their head. Kingsnakes are one of my favorite reptiles to find while out herping for snakes and other reptiles and amphibians. If you find one of these herptiles, DO NOT remove it from it's habitat because most of the time the animal will either die of starvation or spend a month not eating and trying to return to it's home territory. Also, DO NOT post locations on social media or let anyone know where you find and snake, reptile, frog, salamander or turtle because most people destroy habitat looking for these animals to either take home as pets (basically killing the poor animal) or attempt to sell them in the pet trade with is poaching and that is very illegal! #herping #snakes #kingsnake

    My 2-year-old son stepped on an Eastern Kingsnake today and absolutely nothing happened! The snake continued on its way without showing any aggression whatsoever. Pretty incredible. It stayed close by, yet it appeared to be focuses on its task at hand and had zero interest in what we were doing 15 yards away. ❤️

    i'll be damned... my mom said they were chicken snakes in our yard when i was little, but this is more what i remember. black with yellowish rings. only other snake i ever saw at that house was a big black racer i was kinda playing with when i was like 5, i remember standing over it with one foot on each side and it was just kinda slithering around the yard... then, my mom comes out with a broom freaking out. makes sense there weren't any other snakes around, there were all kinds of places for snakes there. stacks of bricks and block, pipes all kinds of left over building materials from when my dad built that house and other stuff, he was a framer and contractor. kinda swampy areas that only really dried up in the summer, hay fields on either side, a corn fields to the back, and the other neighbor had horses. our yard was built up, with a 2-3ft rock retention wall about 20-40 feet from the house all the way around. and there were always these burrows at the corners where they'd come out of. and if there were other snakes, i'd have probably seen at least one. my dog was my only friend close enough to play with most of the time. so went were always roaming around, and i'd try to help him catch rabbits. one went in a big pvc pipe, so i blocked the other end but then bo got it stuck on his head for a minute... most of it was usually at least kinda grown up, my dad bushhogged it but most of the time it was about knee high when i was little. so, also snakes could hide in that. but we kept most of it cut, other than the hay. around the yard wall, up the very long driveway, several acres behind the house along the hay field to a bunch of trees where he eventually built a big tree house and swing set, over to the shop and around it a bit. there was way less to actually bushhog, just a couple acres behind the shop in a long skinny stretch between the drainage ditch the ran the length of the shop and the back fence, which the shop was huge. over to the corner where my dad would pile scrap lumber until the pile was about 10 feet tall, then have a huge fire. it was an all day thing mowing the grass. that house was awesome... and then my dad went and screwed this stupid bitch he built a house for, which my mom and aunt wall papered and painted... then kicked us out after a year or so when my mom couldn't pay for the other half of the house. so, he lived there for a while. then he sold it to this asshole i raced cars with and he absolutely ruined it. now i get to drive by that once awesome house, with the most beautiful clover hay field ever, and now it's gross with an ugly huge horse barn, asphalt driveway with a bunch of damn bradford pears all the way down. he actually decided to play dad with his second family, and basically did with my sister too, i was the only one really left out. and life has basically just gone downhill since. thanks dad. well, that turned into a rant.

    I had quite a few King Snakes where i use to live and they eere awesome to have around! They will especially kill poisonous snakes around your house. I had a German Shepard and it was like they were buddies or something. Ive seen him walk up them and start lickiing on them and they would just lay there while he done it. One day i was mowing the back yard and under my deck in the hot summer weather he was laying there in the shade with a King Snake cuddled up with him! That blew my mind! I had a riding lawnmower and a few times i eould have to stop it and coax them out of the way so i could continue mowing. I Love those snakes! They are awesome to have around as i said.

    Wow. Nice vid. You have a natural touch with them.
    Snakes are creepy but their design is amazing. Snakes that eat snakes are so strange. That an incredibly venemous and aggressive one used to having its own way 'runs scared' from a non venomous hunter is a strange phenomena. An interesting vid - a full on documentary would be just on snakes that eat snakes.

    B.S. advice - "Don't handle any wild animal." First of all, if it's a "bad" idea, it's bad for EVERYONE. Why are YOU doing it? I have handled harmless Gopher Snakes that are common in the park I go for walks in on several occasions. They were all friendly - no hissing no trying to get away. If they were stressed, I wouldn't have handled them. Several people wanted to pet one - a 7 footer. He also didn't want to let go when I put him back in the brush; I had to unwrap him. Someone who says "Don't do this" while they're doing it is a fool.

    • @chrisegnoto
      @chrisegnoto  2 роки тому

      Lol, true but what about the Chemistry teacher who says "don't do this at home" Or the Fire fighter who says the same? What about a Zoo keeper? Or Hibachi Chef? I actually am a professional AND wildlife feild worker AND wildlife educator. So......yeah. My vids have actually protected likely hundreds of animals (mostly inverts and snakes) from being destroyed due to fear, etc. Read through comments on my more popular videos. Evidence is there. I do appreciate where you are coming from, though.

    • @tonynathanson7843
      @tonynathanson7843 2 роки тому +1

      @@chrisegnoto, there is a big difference with a chemistry teacher, fire fighter or zookeeper; the difference is the danger involved when someone is not a professional. Not the same as a knowledgeable person handling a non-venomous snake, which doesn't require a "professional." The large snake I picked up was climbing into a children's playground & freaking out some parents who didn't know he was harmless. So when I picked him up & took him with me on my 1 hr. walk, I was also protecting him from a parent who might have killed him, thinking they were protecting their children from a dangerous snake due to their ignorance. I am not a "professional" but I am also a wildlife educator. I shared much information about snakes with many people during that hour; animals have been my hobby for years.

    • @chrisegnoto
      @chrisegnoto  2 роки тому

      Ok. did you replace it within it's home territory, though? It's crazy how many snakes will stop at nothing to migrate back to their home range, regardless of roads and starvation, etc. Glad you rescued the snake. Where do you teach? Sounds cool.
