Jimmy's just the GOAT. There's lots more technical players out there but none can generate that same excitement and vibe. 51 years on and this gig still sounds fresh.
They are magnificent!! Nobody beats Zeppelin! Live they are magical! Please do MORE! They are from England. Only 4 members...one guitarist. 3 are still alive...Bonham died in 1980 which ended the band.
Not sure how arenas are today but back then anyone could smoke inside. So after seeing Zep we reeked and we couldn't hear much but the happiness high lasted for months.
Jimmy is so raw. And creative. You could watch him play the same song 10 times. And it is always a little different. Recreating studio recordings that have several guitar tracks. All layered over each other. Somehow making it work. And that incredible 2 piece rhythm section. I look at that crowd now. And see me and all my friends at a LZ concert. We're all late 60s now
These 4 genuses are each the GOAT of their crafts, & together they were/are the GODS of Music. Every song they preformed is amazing, there may be a couple not your favorite, but it’s harder picking which ones are your favorites. They had their first rehearsal together on August 19, 1968, they finished tour dates Jimmy Page had being the last member of the Yardbirds. They played as the New Yardbirds for a few weeks, came back to England, & recorded their first album. Page also produced mixed & edited it, from start to finish over a few days, took a total of about 36 hours. It’s an amazing debut album, it was released on January 12, 1969. Their 2nd album was recorded in different studios, in different cities while they were touring, & was released in October (1969).it also was an amazing album. A great studio song to get a feel of the band is, You Shook Me, great solos of keyboards harmonica & guitar with amazing drumming. Two great live performances are Madison Square Gardens (1973), Since I’ve Been Loving You, but everything from that concert is FIRE. Another mind blowing live is, Earls Court (1975), In My Time Of Dying. Page plays the hell out of steel guitar, but again, they all are amazing. We all highly suggest diving deep down this Rabbit Hole. Thank you for your reaction.
Three months. They formed late July 1968 and recorded in October. In between they did several concerts in Scandinavia to fulfill contract obligations of the defunct Yardbirds that Jimmy had to honor before moving on with his new band

3:06 to your point on how good you had to be a band back then, there were so many really good local bands that didn't make it. Because of many reasons, luck, determination, etc. Now, they would surely be stars via the internet.
You are so right about these being amazing musicians, both solo and working as a band at the behest of what the song needed. No "hair metal." These guys, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple were the hard rockers, and later the label heavy metal came to apply to really hard rock.
Quality is so good cuz the artists are so good. Best of the best is correct! I saw this tour at 15 years old, 6th row center. I didn’t smoke pot then, but got so high from the thick THICK smoke! It was epic!
They are alive, with the exception of the drummer, John Bonham. He died in 1980...and the band didn't want anyone else, so they broke up. Led Zeppelin was in a class of their own, and all the members were extremely talented musicians.
Yeah they are from England just like every good band in the 60s, 70s, and 80's. The golden age of music when music was actually good and was not tainted yet.

This comes off of a movie made by them. The Song Remains the Same. It's a trip. It starts like a weird 70s rock band movie. Then, it turns into a collection of some of their absolute best live recorded stuff. It's a lot of crazy good music and being in close to the crowds of the era at the concerts. I think it's mandatory to smoke a joint while watching. It's like Up In Smoke that way.
If I tried to do the impossible and make my top 10 Led Zeppelin songs, the studio version of this might barely make it at 9 or 10. But this live version is definitely top 3. Quite simply my favorite guitar performance beginning to end of all time. And there are times I can listen to this completely ignoring the guitar (or trying to) and still be blown away by what JPJ and Bonzo are doing here. If you want another absolutely mind blowing live from them, try Bring it On Home Live at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970.
Led Zeppelin was the biggest band of the 1970’s. They played from August 1968 to September 1980, when John Bonham, their drummer passed away from alcohol related problems. Each band member was the best at what they did, together they were magic. They were so diverse in their discography. I highly suggest you start with Led Zeppelin I, track 1 Good Times Bad Times, and go from there. Listen to studio first to hear the song in its pristine form, then watch a live version. Led Zeppelin improvised every song, every time they played it. You will never hear it the same way, ever. They were an album band, meaning they didn’t write singles or put out singles unless absolutely forced to, which wasn’t often. You have to hear the album in its entirety. Jimmy Page, lead guitar, produced all of their albums and was very intentional in the way he ordered the tracks. That’s why I suggest you start with the first and go from there. It’s the best way to experience the magnificence of Led Zeppelin.
Check out their performance from the 02 arena from 2007, 27 years after they broke up. All original except the drummer whose son played for the reunion.
As noted below, all are alive (and kicking), except for their amazing drummer, John Bonham, who had a tragic, but totally rock and roll demise (vodka-induced pulmonary aspiration). The band decided they could not go on as LZ without him, so that was the official end of the band (they did go out on top). Singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page have toured several times over they years (and released one album), while bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones transitioned into one of the most in-demand producers in rock. The three of them did perform one more time as Led Zeppelin for an epic 2007 reunion concert, with Bonham's son, Jason, sitting in on drums. Plant continues to record and tour, and Page continues to blow people's minds with unexpected appearances, like his recent surprise performance at the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. I was fortunate enough to see them during their 1977 tour, and over 50 years later, I still get chills thinking about it.
Footage is from the 3 day MSG concert and was recorded professionally and released as the concert film “The Song Remains the Same” in 1976… that’s a MUST watch! Zeppelin broke up in 1980 after the accidental death of their drummer, Bonzo (John Bonham), the rest of the band is still with us and Robert Pant is still actively touring to this day, he has had the most successful solo career of the three. Check out their “reunion” concert from 2007, “Celebration Day”, Bonzo’s son Jason took his dad’s place on drums… this concert to is fire!
You want to know if they're still alive... watch the live version of "Kashmir" from the 2007 Celebration Day. They haven't missed a beat even after not playing together for 20 years. You will be blown away.
"These guys are really good" you say - John Bonham (greatest drummer of all time); Robert Plant (top three front-man in rock history); John Paul Jones (top five in history as instrumentalist - piano, organ, recorder (Stairway to Heaven), acoustic guitar, mandolin and, of course, bass); and last but not least, that guitarist is Jimmy Page (argument as to whether he is best ever, but in top-three with Jimmy Hendrix and David Gilmour) - only member of band who has passed is John Bonham in1980 (just b/4 they were starting a tour in US that I was scheduled to attend in NC)...when he passed, the band disbanded b/c of how freaking tight they were...if you compare the studio version of this song to this live performance you will immediately understand just how much improvisation was associated with every Led Zeppelin live performance...i highly recommend you start down the rabbit-hole and compare studio versions of songs to their live performances...they were video-recorded live (as the original band - one concert in 2002 where Bonham's son Jason plays drums with rest of original band) starting with their first album in 1969 all the way until (to my knowledge) the last video-recorded performance of John Bonham b4 he passed in Knebworth in August of 1979...recommend from that show that you check out Kashmir and Achilles Last Stand...drums will blow you away...but best guitar live would be Stairway to Heaven live at this MSG show (think it was three shows over 3-4 days) and Since I've Been Loving You...the Zep Heads will follow if you travel down this rabbit-hole...thanks and enjoy!!
To make a claim that anyone ranks or increases their rank as a musician by being a player of the recorder is ridiculous. These top 5 or top 3 claims are so subjective. It's would be impossible to even compare Page, Hendrix and Gilmore with each much less others other they are such different players stylistically n. Seems a fair statement is then members of Zeppelin could hold their own on any stage and were as good a musician as anyone. BTW the real genius of Page was in the studio. Post 75 the drugs and money were visibly taking their toll. I want to say 73 but lets give them the benefit of the doubt. LZ is also my favorite band of the era.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy the video sir. They have the full video without any commentary available on UA-cam. @@realnamerodneywhat he was trying to say was you interrupt the flow of the song. One or two quick pauses during the song is okay like between transitions But too many is annoying to us guys that know the song and it’s build up.
@@realnamerodneyother reactors manage to share their thoughts in two or so pauses. Or share their thoughts at the end. It’s not that we don’t want your thoughts. We do. That’s why we watch people react. But with so many interruptions. Your reaction becomes all about YOU and not the music. Believe it or not, it shows a certain disrespect for the music you’re listening to, as it totally disrupts the flow, the build up, the vibe of the music. Not trying to scold you, man, but just saying that your channel might grow more quickly if you cut back a bit. Agree or disagree, it’s no skin off my nose. As you said, there are many other reactors.
I have to agree, you was pausing it every 5 or 10 seconds there for awhile, you can't in any way get a feel for the music when you pause it that often, I'd rather you say something while the music is still playing, this was not enjoyable at all
Hair metal came in the 80s. Led Zeppelin was in the 70s. All are alive except for the drummer, John Bonham, who died in 1980 and that is when the band broke up. They did not want anyone else to sub. Jimmy Page is the best guitarist ever. What ever he does on the guitar is meant to be. The drummer is the best ever. The bassist is a diverse musician who also plays keyboards. Plant the best singer - tied with Freddie Mercury for the best vocalist of the rock era. Led Zeppelin does many different genres and are not stuck with just one.
John Bonham “Bonzo” was the best rock drummer ever. He can do things you wouldn’t believe, and still be in the pocket. Both Jimmy Page (guitarist) and John Paul Jones (bass, keys,) were studio musicians, and Robert Plant (vocalist and and Bonzo (drummer)were only 19 when the band was put together in 1969.
3 out of 4 are still alive. the Drummer John Bonham died. and yes the singer, Robert Plant still performs today with Gretchen Wilson. bass John Paul Jones occasionally performs but does most of his magic in studio work. guitarist Jimmy Page last i knew had bad arthritis in both hands. he has been remastering all their work
This is not hair metal because hair metal was not known at this time... This is the foundation of pure rock and all other rock categories are built on this.. He not shredding,, he is soloing. The only member who passed away is the drummer John Bonham.. There is nothing weird about this its just a time before you and the music you hear now has some of the roots of this in it
UK band created in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page. Jimmy also produced all their albums. They broke up when drummer John Bonham passed away. Yes, back in the day, a band had to know how to actually play their instruments and sing live because there weren't safety nets like backing tracks, computer syncs, etc. This isn't hair metal or anything pop - Zep didn't do pop music; instead, they'd be considered hard rock/heavy blues, however they often incorporated other influences like rockabilly, funk, R&B, folk, ethereal, prog, jazz, etc. They were known for their improvisational style when playing live (no song was ever played the same way twice) and would easily play 2-3 hour long concerts with no intermission or opening act. As someone else mentioned, the remaining three are still alive and vocalist Robert Plant regularly performs, bassist John Paul Jones rarely, and Jimmy, even more so. One small critique of your reaction - please do not pause during the guitar solo, regardless of band; it really makes for a discordant experience. I hope you learn and react to more Zep.
@@henriettaskolnick4445 yes that one especially the last night, fans wouldn’t let them of the stage. That story is very interesting, I enjoyed listening to that.
People Love OTHAFA from HOTH because of the vocals. They prefer the 1972 HTWWW live version, because of the vocals. But, OTOH, I place more importance on the JP solo, best heard in the live version from 1973 at MSG.
In the sixties and seventies all of the members of a band were important and talented ❤ not every band though were great, some in person were not that great
Yes, hey are from England. Britain, if you like. Just like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Yes, Eric Clapton/Cream, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and many, many more that American think are American 😉
Jimmy Page had been an in-demand studio musician for years before Led Zep, so not surprising listening to him play is like listening to a recording... this is not "hair metal"... this is 1973, so its basically "heavy metal"... "Hair metal" was a 1980s thing.
The visual quality is so good because its definition far surpases digitl. There is no one to one comparison because film has no pixels. The pixels are discrete bits of visual information wheres as the film is essentially continuous visual information. That is to say film is made up of tiny grains of light-sensitive chemicals that capture the image. These grains are randomly distributed across the film, allowing for a continuous range of tones and details. If the film is shot properly and stored properly its appearance is unmatched. Although CCDs are not far from passing film.
After 6:36 you can hear what a Gibson Les Paul sounds like - the distortion is just right to give a unique and special sound - it was the sound of the 1970s - copied by everyone ever since - - it's amazing. No other guitar can sound like that. Jimmy Page has no equals since.
If you think this song is great . . . wait til you witness - Led Zeppelin - In my time of dying LIVE at Earl's Court 1975 👇👇👇👇👇 ua-cam.com/video/CyyT8dgaVY8/v-deo.html
Hair metal was more of an 80s thing. These guys were sometimes actually considered heavy metal in their day, a genre that came about in the 70s but I don’t think they really fit that bill bc they were so much more versatile than just standard thrashing.
4:26 ... this was at least 10-12 years before 80's hair metal which was certainly influenced by this but nowhere near as good. Nearly all of that wouldn't have existed without Zeppelin which influenced just about everything from A to Z. From Aerosmith to AC/DC to Black Sabbath to ZZ Top and all inbetween..
Trust me me man this is so far above and beyond "hair metal" it's not even funny...............the separation is that no matter how they played.......you can hear each and every guy doing their thing , and of course, heaven forbid ..actual "lyrics " LOL :0
This was painful to hear the poster, interject with how much he does not know about real music, stick to Hip Hop. It takes real musical talent to do what they did back in the day, live performances from the masters. Jimmy is probably one of the best at playing and composing guitar. I really feel for this younger generation that has to listen to the phony nonsense that passes for music today.
i'm sorry, do you know anything about led zeppelin? Couldn't you take the 10 minutes it would take to actually answer those questions you raised? but anyway, congratulations on recognizing that led zeppelin was a good band, rofl.
@@realnamerodney I didn’t think you were being disrespectful. Lead guitarist Jimmy Page turned 80 in January, John Paul Jones (JPJ) bass & keyboards is about 78, I think lead singer Robert Plant will be like 76 in August. Sadly the greatest drummer John (Bonzo) Bonham passed away in (1980), the band knew they couldn’t continue without him. That was the thought if any member quit or passed away. Plant turned 20 the day after the bands first rehearsal, on August 20, 1968, Bonham had turned 20 in May 1968. Plant still sings, & has had an amazing solo career.

Small point ….the concert where Jason played his dad’s kit with them was in December of 2007, not 2002
Top 1 interms of rock frontman
Live version of In My Time of Dying.
they were tight yet loose, they improvised ALOT live!
Wow…first time visitor and I just want to say that you win the prize for most pauses in a reaction video. CONGRATULATIONS!
Sorry you didn’t enjoy the video sir. They have the full video without any commentary available on UA-cam. The point of this video is for viewers to get a first timers honest take on the performance as it’s happening in real time. Just staring at the screen and not contributing anything seems disingenuous. Hope you find more videos up your alley and thanks for giving mine a chance. 🫡
@@realnamerodneywhat he was trying to say was you interrupt the flow of the song. One or two quick pauses during the song is okay like between transitions
But too many is annoying to us guys that know the song and it’s build up.
@@Starriddin yea, he said that very clear. My response was very clear as well. Thank you.
I have to agree, you was pausing it every 5 or 10 seconds there for awhile, you can't in any way get a feel for the music when you pause it that often, I'd rather you say something while the music is still playing, this was not enjoyable at all
Check them out from the "Celebration day" reunion gig in 2007...
Kashmir sums them up as musicians, with the late John Bonham's son Jason on drums 💪
Check out Black Dog from that '73 MSG show. Plant had this thing about wearing the tops of his latest, well plants.😅
😍Robert
John Bonham “Bonzo” was the best rock drummer ever. He can do things you wouldn’t believe, and still be in the pocket. Both Jimmy Page (guitarist) and John Paul Jones (bass, keys,) were studio musicians, and Robert Plant (vocalist and and Bonzo (drummer)were only 19 when the band was put together in 1969.
more of this concert! more of zep!
There is nothing weird about this its just a time before you and the music you hear now has some of the roots of this in it
Check out Since I've Been Loving You at the same concert. Life changing!
Actually their concerts were between 3 & 4 hours, no breaks or opening acts, they also sold out every concert.
@@sicotshit7068 I believe The Boston Tea Party was 4 but I don't think that was a norm, so I said 2-3 to give a more general time frame. 🙂
@@henriettaskolnick4445 yes that one especially the last night, fans wouldn’t let them of the stage. That story is very interesting, I enjoyed listening to that.
😘👋👋
@@helenespaulding7562 always great to see you Helene 🙂
All very English. John Bonham died in 1980 and that was really the end for the band.
Just a big coincidence. They are a band. They all have great hair. Hair bands came LATER
After 6:36 you can hear what a Gibson Les Paul sounds like -
the distortion is just right to give a unique and special sound -
it was the sound of the 1970s - copied by everyone ever since -
- it's amazing.
No other guitar can sound like that.
Jimmy Page has no equals since.
If you think this song is great . . .
wait til you witness -
Led Zeppelin - In my time of dying
LIVE at Earl's Court 1975

John Paul Jones could play keyboards and bass guitar (with his foot) at the same time.
Hair metal was more of an 80s thing. These guys were sometimes actually considered heavy metal in their day, a genre that came about in the 70s but I don’t think they really fit that bill bc they were so much more versatile than just standard thrashing.
Four guys, did not feature John Paul Jones on bass/ keyboard (both instruments) much.
Shredding and Jimmy Page should never be mentioed in the same sentence.
Young People? they were my age!
Check out Since I've Been Loving You, the same concert. 👍👍👍👍
4:26 ... this was at least 10-12 years before 80's hair metal which was certainly influenced by this but nowhere near as good. Nearly all of that wouldn't have existed without Zeppelin which influenced just about everything from A to Z. From Aerosmith to AC/DC to Black Sabbath to ZZ Top and all inbetween..
Drummer drowned in his own vomit in 1980. Rest are alive.
I had to leave because you pause and comment too often. Really just listen to thier first 4 albums, and come back.
Same. Bye
Not pretty good. GOAT
YOU COULD MAKE COMMENTS WITHOUT PAUSING SO MUCH.
En serio este tío no conoce a Led Zeppelin?
Hair band. Funny.
you got to be kidding?
Not my favorite...Since I've Been Loving You from the same concert is so good, IMO!
Jeffrey Dahmer just chilling😂😂
Trust me me man this is so far above and beyond "hair metal" it's not even funny...............the separation is that no matter how they played.......you can hear each and every guy doing their thing , and of course, heaven forbid ..actual "lyrics " LOL :0
Constant interruptions are a pain
Will do better next time 🙏
Will do better next time 🙏
Dude no need to pause every 5 seconds just to say some dumb shit.
You won’t react to lil b - e Honda
This was painful to hear the poster, interject with how much he does not know about real music, stick to Hip Hop. It takes real musical talent to do what they did back in the day, live performances from the masters. Jimmy is probably one of the best at playing and composing guitar. I really feel for this younger generation that has to listen to the phony nonsense that passes for music today.
just shut up!
You are interrupting waaaay too much
just go watch the video bto tf lol
Fantastic musicians but for some reason I was never a fan
all alive except John, that's why they quit the band.
do the original NOT LIVE FOR A LOOKM AT THE REAL SONG LIVE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT always do the original
You devalue your own opinion by showing you do zero research.
This is way before hair metal. How can you not know who they are? Go away.
i'm sorry, do you know anything about led zeppelin? Couldn't you take the 10 minutes it would take to actually answer those questions you raised? but anyway, congratulations on recognizing that led zeppelin was a good band, rofl.
Okay I tried, but this guys pauses way too much.
Won't be listening to Rodney again,
Are these guys still alive 😂😂😂🙈
That really is a fair question to ask.
Wasn’t meant to be a disrespectful question. You just never see them dabbling with pop culture on washes up tv shows or anything. I respect that.
