This is GOLDEN information! You are seriously a saint for giving out this real, applicable information for free, thank you, thank you, thank you!
She gets clients because her work is great and she is absolutely adorable.
^This... All in All and plain and simple
Yes, personality has a LOT to do with client relationships.
This.
I’ve always been into my art and photography, I have always been steered away from going down the art route because it’s not a “real job” I worked in my fathers company for 5 years.. I felt very lost and lonely. I ended up telling him I needed to leave and moved to a new country! I have finally allowed myself to actually give photography a go. Thank you for being so open about your story and helpful. You keep me motivated to keep going.
Great. Now we need to get you to try large format photography.
Always so generous with the information🙌🏻 Love the personal project idea! Hugs Joanie!
One of your best! Great content presented in such an encouraging and relatable way. Thanks!
Thanks Joanie - that was fantastic! I loved the advice about more "no"s getting you closer to "yes"s.
Excellent information this morning I will put a few to test soon. As always I enjoy seeing your AM talk.
Hey Joanie, I cannot tell you how inspiring and motivating this video is. I can't thank you enough for putting in so much effort and sharing genuine tips for all of us. It matters a great deal, I'm gonna start establishing my work soon and follow everything you shared. I hope it works out ( fingers crossed) ! Thanks once again. Keep up your great work !
Love you Joanie. Gonna miss you while you take a break!
I love what you do for other photographers! Thank you!
Thank you so much Joanie, great ideas.
Amazing video and channel. SO many of these tips apply to photography in general, not just food photography. Biggest point I think is knowing who is actually looking to hire, and what they want. Often times you'd think a restaurant owner is looking for pictures? Nope they're looking for ads and menus, either provide that, or find the middle man who will make use of your pictures
Loved this video!! Great words of encouragement! The first year is tough, but if you work hard, clients will see your value!
I stumbled across this channel the other day and I love your content!!
I have recently decided that I want to do more personal project photography and am embarking on my two passions, food and photography. Your videos are really informative and useful. From how to make backdrops to getting your first paid gig in this genre.
I love it. Thanks for the great content from the UK.
Thanks so much Joanie! The information you shared in this video is worth a gold bar or more ❤❤❤
I’m glad I found your channel! You’re amazing!
Love your videos, so informative!!!
I feel like I could sit here all day with a cup of coffee and watch your videos as if you are talking to me in person. Because everything you say makes sense, and I learn alot, and you are so adorable when you talk. haha
Great video Joanie and top tips for sure. It highlighted where I could be doing soooooooo much more, so thanks a whole bunch.
That was such a great video, Joanie! Thank you!
I have just got my first client, I feel so scary, and once I open your videos to know about the financial part, I feel so comfortable and more confident.
I love you ♥️
whats not to love about joannie 🤯🤯, so inspiring! and that positive vibesss 🔥🔥
These excellent tips and resource links came at a good time - thanks!
Thank you, Joanie! ❤️
I SO needed this ❤️
Thank you so much!
I love learning about food photography for some reason! Not at all a photographer haha but it's really fascinating to me! Thanks for another fantastic video :)
Sofia!
I really need to hear this! Thank you!!!

Great Video Great Advise... needed to hear this!!!
Thank you so much for all your ideas
Great Vlog and great work! Thanks for sharing your expertise!!
Every Bite Shot UA-cam video begins with Joanie saying, "What's sha'kin bacon?" and ends with, "Byeeeeee." What happened to the "Byeeeee."? Nobody does it like you! That's part of your signature. Anyway, practical, artful, and technical. You provide it all and that is why I look forward to visiting with you each Thursday morning.
So glad! And the "bye" got cut as a part of re-working format to increase viewer retention through the duration of a video, which in good news, is totally working
Love your videos. I've always wanted to try food photography, Mainly for my stock photography.
This was great! Thanks!
Great tips! Thank you for your awesome content!
Thanks for this much needed 😢
Thank you for the tips!!! I'm in school for photography right now and I love doing a lot of macro/product photography type things. I'm obsessed with seeing the world from an object or small animal's perspective. Anyways, food photography fits in with that style as well! It'd be a dream job for me to work with products and food!
Needed this! Thank you!
Gosh. I like your stuff. Thank you for sharing!!
thank you so much the content was super helpful.
Great tips Jonnie! And even greater shirt ❤
Thank you so much Joanie! Your tips are so helpful! Love your red blouse (which suits you btw) and your red cup :) xx
These were great tips Joanie!!
I shot for Shutterstock Custom A LOT!! It is a great way to get experience and portfolio!
Nice!!! Happy Thursday

Thank you Joanie! The PR tip is really a useful one, the template is also very helpful :)
the link is not working anymore :( Would you mind sharing the template with me? 🙏🏽
Love this!!!!!
I don't even do food photography (professionally), just for instagram stories haha, I am a videographer and I love watching your channel.
I love that the content translates across disciplines!
Wow, what a great video! Thank you :)
You’re a star Joanie. Just yesterday I sent my mate a message to about this exact topic. But how awesome is it that while I’m still waiting for her response, I received your email notification about the same topic today!
Happy days 👏👏
Great minds think alike!!
I love you, great video!
Excellent tips, thank you.
love your videos! you're amazing
Solid advice, and thanks as always for using examples from your own business pre-youtube success. Much of this applies to other areas of commercial photography as well. It does get easier to approach businesses over time too, it was super scary for me at first, but now it feels casual. The market feels saturated, but now I've started to talk to small businesses in my town they all want images but don't know where to start.
Also I can't stop thinking about colour theory while watching this after all the colour videos you've just done!
It's definitely a wild time in the photography space and I think we're only just starting to see another major shift in the way business is done. Here's to staying nimble, staying connected and keeping overhead low :)
The Bite Shot would you believe that literally minutes after watching this video, a local food focused PR company popped up on my IG feed? I’d never heard of them but they work with some of my favourite local companies so I’m go try and tee something up. This might be the Wild West, but there’s good money in it for the bold and brave!
Was really interested in starting a food blog and this video is so helpful to get started
Great advice love it...
Thank you so much for the advise as well as the motivation!! 💕
Rock it out!!!
you are the one who i would like to be on youtube. the way u package knowledge is amazing. Love to learn form your videos as they are easy and so natural to grab.
The moment you mentioned Joel Grimes, I smashed that like button. Thank you for the tips, very helpful. I lived in Phoenix 9 years ago, makes me want to go back to just hang around great photographers such as yourself, Joel Grimes and Don Giannatti and learn more first hand. I guess I could stop by and say hello to Steve Huff, to see what cameras he's reviewing.
Thank you again!!
That was really helpful thanks
Great stuff as usual joanie thanks
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for being here :)
This is very insightful, I never thought about the PR agencies.
Thanks for the awesome tips! I actually did a personal project for a small sauce company a couple of months ago. They asked to share my photos. I said sure! Just recently they contacted me asking for my rates for a more in depth and commercial shoot with their product because they love my work. I was so excited! I gave them my quote and I haven’t heard anything back. (Wasn’t really that much!) I’m terribly saddened by this and have felt pretty discouraged since then. :(
Thank you some much Joanie! I need to implement all these strategies … like right now!
Awesome! Go get 'em!
Thank you so so much for these tips! I am afraid as hell but that aint going to stop me!
Thank you so much for this video. I am just starting my food photography business as another stream of income. Looking forward to getting started!
Can you make a video discussing your approach to creating a portfolio to show potential clients and agencies? What types of pictures do you include? What websites do you use? What format do you recommend sending portfolios to people? Love your insight
I love her Ellenisque confidence. Positive humorous and quirky.
Such great information, Joanie. And, BTW, that top looks fantastic on you. Red is your color!
Thank you! It was on closeout at NY&C. I do love red! Hugs and cheers to you Jackelin!
Hello from Russia!)
Thank you Joanie, this tips are universe for each country of the world and they totally works
btw thanks for reminde to use brands in personal projects and tagging them, this is such an awesome idea ^^
and i love the part where you said educate the industry. absolutely agree with that and try to tell my fello beings not do free work
Thanks, Joanie! Great advice. I needed to hear this today. :)
Go out there and do fabulous thing!!
@@TheBiteShot Thank you!
Brilliant!
Excellent content.
Exposure bucks love that. I love it around the holidays I get "invited" to parties and they tell I can eat and all I want for free.
Thank you!
Thank you very much for sharing your strategy. This is very helpful. :-D
I have a two browser windows up, and multiple Google machines working as you speak. This is some great, great information. THANK YOU!!
All the googles!!!
That was such a great video, Joanie, that I sent it to my daughter - and she doesn't even have a camera! So much good, common sense in there, and delightfully presented.
So glad you enjoyed it!
@@TheBiteShot My daughter sent me some terrific iPhone photos of her keto diet meals that she cooked. I'm encouraging her to look very closely at what you are doing and consider it for a career change. You make it all look so much fun. Also directed her to read your inspiring story. (Disclaimer: Phone cameras are not cameras!)
Thank you so much :)
This is such an uplifting video Joanie! I am just starting out (via school) and doing a lot of photos for free, since I want to train a lot and build a portfolio. Will you make a video about how much you can start charging for shoots? per hour or per shoot (quantity of pictures etc)? XX
Your videos are so valuable. Thank you! I have a request, can you discuss the dos/don'ts about making pamphlets, business cards, samples, etc .
So other than this being a GREAT video, has anyone told you how nice the color flow is? I know that was the last book club - but your reds are really speaking to me here!😊 Which came first: the awesome mug or the pretty top you’re wearing? Such an informative message here Joanie - you always work so hard to grow your business and I love the saying from your dad regarding the rejections! 🥰😍🤗
Thanks so much Joanie! This video couldn't have come at a better time. I am currently in the early days where I am trying to find my first paid client and I send dozens of messages on Instagram and via email daily but nothing has come through yet. I was starting to get discouraged and doubt my abilities but watching this is yet another reminder to not give up!
Keep at it! You got this!
Same here, all the way down to Costa Rica! I wish you all the best!
@@thrivinginthe40s Thank you so much Ines! Wishing you the same. Keep thriving!
@@TheBiteShot Thanks so much Joanie. You are the best!
Awesome video thanks for sharing these valuable tips, already subscribed to your channel 👍 Do you have a video about pricing, how to price when you are starting! Thanks once again
Hi Joanie, thanks a lot for sharing this, I recently found your channel and I ABSOLUTELY LOOOVE IT!! i feel this could be the path I would like to go, but I am not so confident to take that jump yet. I was wondering if you have any tips for when you are starting, how to price your work?? And would you recommend to do some free jobs as a way to get exposure and get your portfolio up and running? I would really appreciate your advice on this. Thanks a lot and have a great day!
