Amazing!👏🏻 great shots👍🏻
More like this, please! Both practical and inspirational. So helpful to follow along through your entire creative process.
And they're more fun for me to make, too! Gonna have to do the big scoop for you :)

@@TheBiteShot Cannot stress enough @TravelnLass point! It is super intriguing having a look on the behind the scenes and the though process you follow. Really inspirational!
Great shots and composition Joanie.... love also the colors so much!! U're great!
That is one slick cutting board, look forward to seeing more of it. Great video, hung on every word! Thanks!
Joanie, your work is so inspiring. I'm learning so much from your channel and it helps me improve my food photography for my channel. Thank you! 😁🥦
So happy to share!
"Just because the shoot is over, doesn't mean that that's your last shot"... ooooh I like that phrase!!!...)
Collection is absolutely outstanding 💯✌️
Beautiful shots. Also really love the old baking tray - absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you, Elspeth! Glad I had my eyes peeled to catch that one
Loved this video. It was really nice and educational to see how you go about this
That last shot was gorgeous! Loved seeing your process, and I've definitely had a "clearing away the shot" moment. Excited for the ice video next week!
So true about the clearing away shot! My clearing away shots often turn out to be my best:-) Thanks for another great video!
Excellent! So glad the small dishes were the winner! I love the baking tray. I have one which I use probably 2 or 3 times a week and it makes a great backdrop after over 15 years of baking with it x
Love this video so much Joanie!! And you know I love some old, beaten up baking trays! haha. All of the shots are gorgeous and it was so fun seeing your creative process.
I have a small you tube channel and every time I see your video I feel to highjack you for my videos 😍. You have such a bubbly and mesmerising personality I can listen to you hrs after hrs .
So so usefull Joanie, thanks so much for your tips and honesty !!
I'm really should stop leaving comments but I'm loving this so much haha
Another great video, thank you. And this dish in Turkey is called Menemen, and they use flat leaf parsley in everything, so your choice was good.
I really enjoyed this BTS format and how you walked us through your process of ideas, inspiration and the scene setup! The images look yummy--loved how the clean-up shot had its unique mood. 👏
You videos are always great, but this one is extra great. I love that you shared your whole process from beginning to end. That you look at other photos for inspiration. I have always felt a bit guilty about that. No more! Loved how you used the trays as well. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.
When people ask me who I look to for food photography related knowledge, the first name that always comes to mind is Joanie Simon. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. It really makes a difference.
You are so talented! So glad I found your channel!!!
Hi Joanie! Really loved the takeaway when you were cleaning up. One time I was done shooting and as I was bringing Hubby the food, I saw a shot that I didn't see before and snagged it. So fun. Love the old cutting board as well as hunts through antique stores. Lastly, thank you for the your old video with the doughnuts and the pink foam. Awhile ago I got a pack of coloured foams inspired by you and just last week, I got to start playing with them and baked doughnuts that I was working on. Thank you for everything you do. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.
As usual, Joanie, you succeeded ! I love your videos, and like others, I still learn a lot from you. Thank you for sharing so kindly all your knowledge.
I love this style of video!
I love your ideas and also love the way of talking 🥰
You are a life saver! I wish I found your channel sooner!!! You're really helping me out especially since I have a cooking channel and I really to need to work on alot of things. Been binge watching your videos and I've learned so much! Thank you!!! ♥
This was a GREAT video J!!
Thank you always for sharing your awesome tips for food photography and videography! It really helped me a lot!
Thank you
Love the cutting board, I'll have to do my "budget" version of the same thing. Super inspired right now... I know what I'm doing tonight. Thanks!
Have fun shooting!
LOVE the second setup!😍
Nothing like an old busted baking tray to make things amazing!
Oh man that was SOO beautiful and made me hungry and so inspired as always!!!
Thank you so much, Briana!
Great video. Learned a whole lot. Thank you for your time and work. Big thumb up.
Following you for a long time, but rarely post a comment. Love the tray image. Has that nice old world, artisan feel to it. Thank you for your tips and tricks.
Thanks so much! Glad to have you here
Today i been shooting my food pics following your advices, it went amazing !!! Thank you !!!
Congrats!!!
Loved learning about the end to end process!
Unrelated - like how you've used the Cafe du monde coffee can on your desk 😊
love it!
Thanks so much for this Joanie!
Glad it was helpful!
The parsley/coriander tip was one I will use for sure.
So many great tips, and of course great photos. You mentioned that cilantro wilts very quickly, and it does. Well, here’s my tip for you! I do a lot of Tex-Mex cooking, and buy many of my ingredients at Mexican grocery stores. The cilantro there is usually much sturdier than the limp flavorless bunches found at the big chain grocers, and I’ve noticed that it keeps it shape and flavor much longer.
I think l like the last one the best!
Thanx💕
I loved this vídeo Joanie!!! I I want to eat a shakshuka now, and of course take some pictures!!! :)
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it
Love it, going to have to look round junk shops for a board and tray like those!
Amazingly that baking tray is only about a year old...I just neglected to clean it properly over time and, BAM! Beautiful character :) lol!
@@TheBiteShot kinda baked in beauty?
Could you do a reaction video to behind-the-scenes commercial food photography videos? Like, when they put motor oil on pancakes and stuff like that!
Love it! Thank you for justifying my props hoard 😅
Seriously though, a whole video could also be done on the colour theory in these images and what makes them “work”. I know you’ve done a series on colour, but I think it’s the range of tones involved here that are the unsung heroes.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!! And, at least in that last photo, I'm seeing you work not with 4, but with 3 and 1. It's in the way you arranged them. 3 together, one straggler. In my mind, that qualifies for the rule of odds...;)
Ha ha! True true :) It's all math to me ;) lol!
Rule of odds. You had 4 bright red subjects, and then still another, the tomatoes. That is what made this complete... and why that "rule" (dern the term) applies. It's not subject, it's visual weight and color perception.
YEAH, this is an egyptian recipe !!
Great video, love your process! Did you actually cook the shashuka on the little pans or elsewhere and transferred? that pita looks awesome too!
Please please make more food styling videos with different props......
I love your videos they give me good ideas to shoot better thumbnail for my food channel. I am still learning, photography and filming are not my thing, so thank you for all the tips.
Keep at it! You'll be amazed at how the work transforms over time
@@TheBiteShot thanks
Your thumbnails are already pretty good!
@@benharris3949 thank you Ben, trying really hard.
Hi, love the video , such good content - perfect and thanks. BTW what is the spray can on the table used for ? Is it an edible gloss spray ? Cheers from Shanghai
Hi, Joanie! Thanks for your videos, I find your YT channel and IG super inspiring so I can't stop telling my friends to follow you. I've got a weird request... could you do a video on stationery layout and photography? I know your specialty is food but I would love to get some tips from you on how to achieve better pictures of my calligraphy and stationery work. Sometimes I feel I could do things better but I just don't know what.
Greetings from Mexico!
yeh you said it right :-)
After your inspiration recon how long does it take you from start to finish to accomplish a shoot like this? (Maybe excluding cooking time because that’s subjective) do you typically leave your lights setup and ready to go?
Would you please make a video on how to make food look steamy as if it is hot out of oven and steam coming out of it?
Yep it's Shakshouka 😂😂😍
Do you have a link to that wooden cutting board? Or the person that sells them if that is not available anymore...
Amazing video BTW!!
Hi Joanie, I really think I struggle with the napkins position, do you have a video with some suggestions?
How is AD600 Pro emitting continuous light? Are you using modeling light of it? Not sure if that would be sufficient
Any contests or image critique videos soon???
where do you find your Slatted Wood Serving Trays that kind of looks like palette wood?..i just spent 3 hours looking for them not a single one on the internet without walls, where do you get these flat ones?
Regarding your rule of odds, in your last image, what while you have 4 dishes, it could be argued that you also have 1 and 3 dishes in the final composition. ;-)
Love the shots, but can’t help thinking you’re missing something by not shooting those dishes from the side. Given the origin of the dish, I think flatleaf parsley is the correct choice.
No long comments today but C stands beat standing on a chair 😄
Donald Kline Media chair starts with “c”...
👨🍳
That was a great video. Copper cookware are toxic though
Side note. I saw that image of the lemon tart and thought it was Rachel’s before I even saw the watermark. 😂
am surprised she's thin while shooting all that delicious looking food !
Joanie, you did well deciding to use parsley instead of cilantro as cilantro doesn't really make sense in this Middle Eastern dish. ;) I just recently added a shakshouka recipe article to my Friday cookbook project on the blog section of my website over at www.andreagralow.com. nice video as always! ❤️
The Bite Shot really i am very lucky to see ur youtube by chance you are so lovely and beautiful..appreciate your help i am new youtuber and i have iphone 11 pro max this is good to take videos and photos plz? FIRST!
Terrific video Joanie. Those linens napkins are amazing. I have a friend who hand spins yarns who educated me one the exquisiteness of Khadi!
You pick up so many beautiful props online. You must have gotten a lot of “duds,” not what you were expecting, over the years? Would love love a video about some of your greatest duds and disappointments.

overhead shots ..... hate them..... I can't wait for them to drop out of style ......
