I design the perfect villager breeder for your world! ►Support Ray with Patreon: www.patreon.com/RaysWorks ►All Farms in Minecraft spreadsheet: bit.ly/FarmEverything
For everyone who's villagers keep suffocating: You have to remove the cobblestone block placed at 4:42; The block is used as a "pedestal" to place the glass and it's broken at 5:18. Took me a couple of minutes to figure it out. Cheers
If your farm doesnt work (villagers wont breed, they permanently try to pathfind to the beds) it could be: - the gamerule "mob griefing" is set to false (villagers cant pick up food nor farm it) - villager unable to pathfind to the beds (wrong trapdoor placement). also if you put something that blocks their vision of beds (like slabs) they wont be able to pathfind - any block is 2 blocks above the beds -Villagers must have enough beds within village bounds for baby villagers to spawn -Adult villagers breed depending on the time of the day (so at night they will be trying to pathfind to the beds area and not doing anything in particular) Love you Rays, keep it up
@@maxbuckwalter-chiang3224 Adult villagers breed depending on the time of the day and need to be willing to spawn § Baby villagers, who also require beds with at least 2 empty blocks above the head. In Java Edition, two villagers nearby one another periodically enter mating mode if both have enough food and are not on cooldown. Breeding fails (with anger particles displayed) if no unclaimed bed can be reached via pathfinding within a 48 block radius.
@@maxbuckwalter-chiang3224 also they cout as mobs, so if you put something that blocks their vission of beds (like slabs) they wont be able to pathfind
My breeder is not working, but I'm clear with all else except the fourth point, so does the breeder not work if its not in a village? mine is underground, but it is lit up adequately.... the roof is made of slabs, is that also to be fixed?
how is this breeder different from any other 1.14+ breeder? literally the only addition i see here is the fact that he put some trapdoors around the composter
Important points from someone who was trying and failing and finally got it to work: * Make sure to remove the cobblestone block at 4:42 to not suffocate the villagers. * Make sure to have 2 blocks above the beds. * Make sure to not have a block above the trapdoor at the entrance * Make sure mob griefing is turned ON, Mob's (villagers included) need to be able to interact with the world (i.e. the food required to breed) in order to breed. This was the thing that got in my way after I checked all the others.
Thanks for this - I've never gotten into the villager side of things before (I used to play heavily before they were introduced), so this breeder was my first foray into using them, with plans to populate a trading hall with the offspring. As someone that likes to skybase - and did so with this design - you want the base 9x9 area of the farm to be 4 blocks above the base level of your skybase (so 3 air blocks, then the dirt of the 9x9), assuming you want to use a villager movement system like the rail method shown at 6:07. It's also good to put some glass blocks around the kid collection area (if you're doing an above-ground version like me) so that you can monitor what's happening. Oh, and I don't know if it just takes the farmer ages to reach critical mass of carrots to actually start the process - but things seemed to go much faster when I threw so many carrots at the two villagers that I assume their inventories were filled.
I think the materials list is missing a few items, notably two additional water buckets and a sign used in the collection system. Just to save anyone from having to go back and forth between your base and build a ton like I had to while trying to figure out what I was missing. Great farm though, mine started up pretty much instantly without issue once I had everything together.
I woke up to a nice little crowd of 34 villagers, thanks! I also didn't do the slabs. I just have a water stream flowing em like 50 blocks away. In hindsight, I really should have made the area they went to bigger though lol, almost crowd crushing. Turns out I have a mod in this modpack that lets me shift right click to pick them up though, so I'm lucky! Kinda op mod ngl.
Just joined your Patreon! Been considering it for a while, but seeing all the details in the Description of this video today clinched it for me. The amount of effort you put into making your farm designs accessible for people is truly a gift to the community. Everything is so well organized! With cross-references, even. Super helpful for a casual minecrafter like me. So thanks :)
I really love just how accessible you made this, and also how easy it would be to upgrade with a hopper minecart underneath to farm those items (since the trapdoors around the composter should make their inventory fill up and eventually drop carrots everywhere). Personally, I would probably combine this with logicalgeekboy's villager delivery system with flowing water just to be sure they don't experience entity cramming, but that's not really necessary if you pay attention better than me and/or want to build a little less. All in all well done!
funnily enough right as i put the second villager in via minecart (still hadnt finished the farm yet) a lightning bolt immediately struck the copper rod lol
If you're still having trouble, make sure there aren't any blocks above the trapdoor that the adult villagers need to see the beds. Took me a long time to figure that out.
I dunno if something changed with 1.21.1 but this design eventually broke after working fine for 2 months. 1 of the farmers managed to get to a bed and get free. The 1 farmer is just stuck standing on one of the beds. It appears they managed to keep breeding and there was a bunch of baby villagers and 2 grown villagers that got loose.

After a bit of fiddling (bad block placement by me) I've got this working perfectly in 1.19.4. Top tip: don't build a villager trading hall near your breeder. It affects the breeding villagers as in they won't breed. I moved the breeder about 200 blocks away and it's running fine. Thanks, Ray! *Edit to add* I got the surge protector achievement on this farm so the lightning rod is definitely working, too.
Should be fine as long as the villagers in the hall cant pathfind to the beds. I've built this breeder and another breeder before right next to trading halls and its totally fine for me

@@gobbler-jz9tm Check the beds near your breeder. If there are any within 48 blocks of the villager breeder the villagers won't breed. I had a couple of beds in huts within 48 blocks so rebuilt the breeder a couple of hundred blocks away in the sky.

Just in case you see this Ray, would it be possible to design a villager breeder and iron golem farm combo? The only one I've seen was done by Impulse and it's a bit dated now, so I was just wondering if there was a newer, faster way of combining the two farms.
@@RaysWorks if I want to make this and an iron golem farm I would need to place the edges 32 or so blocks away right Ray? Also these “villages” can be underground no light block to sky is ok correct?
At 3:26 you mention beats as a viable crop, but I find that the farmer fills up their inventory with beat seeds and becomes unable to breed due to lack of food in their inventory. The nitwit villager is stuck following the farmer around and throwing food at them
So the breeder worked almost instantly, but the babies just stood around in the farm, and werent trying to walk to the beds. Is this an issue on Bedrock version?
I'm having a big problem where the babies clip into the walls and suffocate when they grow up. What happens is they get pushed into the corners while still baby villagers, grow up, clip into the wall, get pulled up, but don't get pulled out of the wall by the current of the higher water flow so keep suffocating. Been running it for a few hours and so far none of them have survived.
@@RaysWorks For some reason this comment got skipped in my updates, sorry. There's only 1 or 2 in there at a time and for some reason they kept moving into the corners instead of the center. I tried making it out of glass to hope they'd survive long enough to wander out but they just end up fully in the block and don't move. They ended up in the side walls above them and once clipped into the front wall they get pressed against. I ended up solving it by putting two waterlogged staircases facing each other into the walls at the end so they get pushed into the center of the baby holding chamber.
i'm having a problem with this design... for reasons i had to build this farm a little higher up, but now, baby villagers that grow up, not only clip through the slabs, but also the walls of the collection chamber, and escape. what can i do about this?
Works very good! Had the most peculiar thing happen though, I've been running it for dozens of real hours with no issue but today my farmer was in the collection area. Must have gotten pushed through the wall because of the other villager and a baby spawning, I doubt there's much way to prevent it but it seems extremely rare.
I made one that was working for a while, but after breeding a few dozen villagers, one of the breeders got out (I have no idea how) and I had to replace them with a new villager. Now they aren't breeding any. The farmer is still farming, and they push up against the door like they're trying to pathfind to the beds, but no children are spawning. What might have broken this?
Easy design to build, i left it running for a few hours seemed fine. Now the one villager without a profession inside the farm keeps escaping my reaching the beds. Im not sure why, ive tested it 3 separate times and at one point both the villagers made it into the bed, even with the trap door in the way. Maybe its a 1.20 thing? Not sure why it worked for a few hours and now they keep escaping lol. I got rid if the beds for now.
the farmer villager isnt farming and the 2 villagers just keep staring at each other ive replaced beds ive broken all other job centers and beds in a 48 block radius ive replaced composter and im in an unmodded world
Just built this a few days ago, everything typically works fine but every once in a while my farmer escapes and I'm not sure how. I raised the walls to three high just in case, and then closed the fence gate to stop the breeder. Finally I decided to remove the two beds up against the wall to see if that is the issue. Anyone encountered something like this?
@@RaysWorks I use fabric and some performance and visual mods running this on 1.19.3. I had the same problem where once in a while (my guess is about 10-20 in game days) the farmer villager would escape from the farm and go sleep on the bed. I wonder if it path finded onto those beds that are next to the wall diagonally skipping the trapdoor.
Thanks for this amazing design, my monkey brain was able to follow very nicely :) One question tho, does the farm work too if both the breed villagers r farmers (two workstations)? Wouldnt it be a littl faster as well because both can then replant the food and get it faster... idk if that makes sense
Is this expandable? If it is, can I just make multiple farming "cells" next to one another? Or is it as simple as adding expanding the farm land and adding more composters and beds?
This farm was working amazing, somehow one of the villagers disappeared so i replaced it, they made babies but now they won't do anything and i'm not sure why, i replaced the composter, i replaced the beds, moved the beds, i tried giving them bread to hold, i've been keeping it day time and just nothing.
2 questions how many villagers can be inside the farm farming and breeding? 2 4 6 etc. and how many of these can we make next to each other? Like do i have to be 50 blocks away from each other?
Had to build another one of these, I'm now in 1.20.4 and they don't seem to breed as frequently or at all. The villagers trade food etc and I get the love hearts, then all I get is the storm cloud and no villager baby, any ideas?
One of my villagers doesn’t pick up bread… I killed it the last time it happened, but it might be happening again? Not sure, could also be they have bread but aren’ breeding
I’ve let the farm run for 5 days and the villagers just spend most of their day pressed up against the trapdoor to exit and they haven’t bread yet does anyone know why that’s happening
Anything change in 1.20.2? Built the farm and they refuse to do anything besides try and pathfind to the beds. Double checked trapdoor placement, mob grief is true, no surrounding blocks near the beds. Not sure what the issue would be
fun fact, if you don't need it to be automatic then just using bread by trading with a farmer villager you can give said bread to the breeding station.
I just lost a master farmer due to the placement of the lightning rod. Since it has an radius of 128 blocks in Java edition, it's not worth the risk having it right on top of the farm imo.
Hey so I don’t think mine is working. One thing is I placed bread instead of carrots or potatoes and also one of my villagers is a cleric but I can’t find the brewing stand he is connected to so did I do anything wrong?
Is there a problem with building this breeder underground? I have an underground base and I built this breeder and when the villagers go to breed one of them ends up upset every time they go Into breeding mode and never actually breed. I’ve given them all the food options and stacks of carrots to try and get them to breed. But to no avail
@@RaysWorks that’s my bad I meant to delete the comment, it turns out the breeder doesn’t work on my server despite all the game rules being correct. I got it to work on single player but not on the server both above and underground
even with the 2 wide water my baby villager suffocated in the wall (in the bottom water shaft) after growing, is this just a possibility or are the walls supposed to be made of glass or something?
I made my walls with glass and the babies still suffocated. I used spectator mode and noticed there were 3 babies in the growing chamber and one of them is forced into the wall. Weird.
@@RaysWorks I'm not on a server. I've had 2 babies grow into adults glitched in the same block in the chamber. It's not a big deal. I've got more villagers than I'll ever need thanks to you. 🙂
@@RaysWorks Sorry I let it run overnight and it worked great! It was only the first hour they were dying and I replaced a few blocks with glass. Thanks for the tutorial it works really well!
my villagers aren't breeding for some reason. They do the heart things but it always ends in the angry cloud and no child spawns. I made this in a showy village biome if that matters at all
my adult villagers keep dropping down into the water pit periodically and stop breeding. am i missing something? if im lucky theyll make maybe 3 new villagers before one of them jumps down and stops breeding/reaching the food.
my villagers dont pic kup the crops they have fully grown i use carrots and theyre not farming, i have traded with one of the villagers before but he is a farmer
I'm totally going to see if I can modify this slightly for bedrock...I know that hit boxes are a little different..think villagers and the player are the same height on bedrock...but this is awesome
some of my baby villagers escape when they grow up, instead of growing up into the water where they fall into the minecart hole, do you know possibly why?
when I put the beds down the normal villagers can access them? Idk if its something to do with the realm im playing on (no datapacks), client, or maybe a 1.19.3 issue
i planted potatoes for this farm in my world, and the villagers keep throwing them past the trapdoor and femce to tge cobblestone, any solution for this problem?
somehow my villagers stop planting carrots and start planting wheat and i have tried replacing the villagers and the crops multiple times, do you know a way to fix this?
The villagers in the breeder are making hearts for a while, but then they make the angry particles and stop. They are yet to actually breed. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Sadly - the villagers clip through walls before floating up and either suffocate or escape (if built in the air) :( As well - baby villagers are able to reach the nearest beds on rare occasion.
@@RaysWorks did you find a fix im having the same issue of villagers suffocating when they grow, they teleport into the wall instead of above the slabs
@@RaysWorks I noticed there are sometimes 3 baby villagers, which also makes sense, they take 20 min to grow up and when skipping nights the parents should be able to produce 4 babies (2 per day -> 4 per 2 days = 20 min)
Saw an earlier comment he made about widening the water collection by one block. I took this suggestion but then the adults were getting stuck on the edges, so I added two more water streams on either side to push the adults to the chute in the middle. Seems to be working. No more suffocating and no more getting stuck so far.
can the villagers be named for this? I named my villagers so that way they didnt despawn when i was getting them from the village to my house but they dont seem to be doing anything. EDIT: I got new villagers with no names but theres only 1 composter and they are both farmers, does the farm still work if they are both farmers and if not, why is the other villager a farmer.

Im not sure why, ive tested it 3 separate times and at one point both the villagers made it into the bed, even with the trap door in the way. Maybe its a 1.20 thing? Not sure why it worked for a few hours and now they keep escaping lol. I got rid if the beds for now.
@@RaysWorks I'll try that out, I appreciate the videos and easily explanations, keep up the great content!
I have the same issue, sometimes the are somehow able to sleep in the bed. No mods here but on a (very small, 2 people) server
@@rockandnovaplease tell me what he has said because I'm having a same issue right now and i idk why can't see rayworks' comments
the farmer villager isnt farming and the 2 villagers just keep staring at each other
ive replaced beds
ive broken all other job centers and beds in a 48 block radius
ive replaced composter
and im in an unmodded world
Just built this a few days ago, everything typically works fine but every once in a while my farmer escapes and I'm not sure how.
@@RaysWorks Ok, thanks!
Are the villagers supposed to be pathfinding towards the beds all of the time?
I can't access your spreadsheet, it seems bitly has blocked it as "potentially harmful"
Thanks for this amazing design, my monkey brain was able to follow very nicely :) One question tho, does the farm work too if both the breed villagers r farmers (two workstations)? Wouldnt it be a littl faster as well because both can then replant the food and get it faster... idk if that makes sense
Well no the math is calculated so that it’s at max efficiency I believe so more farmers would just give more food but not more villagers
0:09 what would be a late game villager breeder then?
@@RaysWorks is it the "ALL in 1 Villager Factory"?
Is this expandable?
If it is, can I just make multiple farming "cells" next to one another? Or is it as simple as adding expanding the farm land and adding more composters and beds?
They were about to breed they had the hearts and then red particles randomly appeared and they just stopped. How do I fix it
check description for helpful info
This farm was working amazing, somehow one of the villagers disappeared so i replaced it, they made babies but now they won't do anything and i'm not sure why, i replaced the composter, i replaced the beds, moved the beds, i tried giving them bread to hold, i've been keeping it day time and just nothing.
It has to be night for them to find beds I think
I'm having an issue where the baby villagers won't pathfind to the beds to drop off into the sorting mechanism. Any thoughts?
They also Loose their assignment (Farmer/beds) every once in awhile...
Btw make sure the farmers inventory is filled with the crop of choice before you finish it
this should be at the top when searching for a breeder
Will this still work if the walls are made of glass?
do the villagers need to sleep every night? or do the just need to have beds?
2 questions
how many villagers can be inside the farm farming and breeding? 2 4 6 etc.
and how many of these can we make next to each other? Like do i have to be 50 blocks away from each other?
I built this in survival 1.19.3 and when the villager grows up they suffocate and die. When I first built it it worked just fine but now it doesnt
Had to build another one of these, I'm now in 1.20.4 and they don't seem to breed as frequently or at all. The villagers trade food etc and I get the love hearts, then all I get is the storm cloud and no villager baby, any ideas?
One of my villagers doesn’t pick up bread…
I killed it the last time it happened, but it might be happening again? Not sure, could also be they have bread but aren’ breeding
Check description for more information
I’ve let the farm run for 5 days and the villagers just spend most of their day pressed up against the trapdoor to exit and they haven’t bread yet does anyone know why that’s happening
exact thing happening to me man
does this work in real life too
Anything change in 1.20.2?
Ty for the Java warning before end of video ❤
it does not work in java?
@@jaxlad2447 it does work in java it just doesnt work in bedrock
even with the 2 wide water my baby villager suffocated in the wall (in the bottom water shaft) after growing, is this just a possibility or are the walls supposed to be made of glass or something?
I made this in a showy village biome if that matters at all
thank you
@@ravenger1166what was the answer
my adult villagers keep dropping down into the water pit periodically and stop breeding. am i missing something? if im lucky theyll make maybe 3 new villagers before one of them jumps down and stops breeding/reaching the food.
mine just arent breeding is it because my crops arent full? the jobless one just stands by the exit permanently
Does this work in Bedrock? I tried it, but the farmer villager keeps getting angry because he cant find way to the middle composter
my villagers dont pic kup the crops they have fully grown i use carrots and theyre not farming, i have traded with one of the villagers before but he is a farmer
I'm totally going to see if I can modify this slightly for bedrock...I know that hit boxes are a little different..think villagers and the player are the same height on bedrock...but this is awesome
Ok... Try... It.. And... Tell............. Us................. P...... L....... E....... A....... S....... E......
How does it work
Can I put a glass roof for extra safety? Or will it ruin the breeding somehow
Do you still need help?
some of my baby villagers escape when they grow up, instead of growing up into the water where they fall into the minecart hole, do you know possibly why?
When my villagers breed, heart particles come out for about 5 seconds, but then an angry particle shows up and they stop breeding. How do I fix this?

@@RaysWorks i dont see it
My adult Villagers just try and get to the beds, don't replant the crops or anything, even after I checked Santiago Balsamo's comment.
what happens if I use a nitwit for breeding?
does this farm work with wheat as the crop?
Dojt think so, they can onl Breed with beets, carrots, potatoes and bread
when I put the beds down the normal villagers can access them? Idk if its something to do with the realm im playing on (no datapacks), client, or maybe a 1.19.3 issue
Not working for me.
Farmer isn't doing anything with the crops.
They are both just trying to get out to the beds
the big villagers keep getting stuck at the sign and i have to hit them in the hole what should i do to fix
i planted potatoes for this farm in my world, and the villagers keep throwing them past the trapdoor and femce to tge cobblestone, any solution for this problem?
somehow my villagers stop planting carrots and start planting wheat and i have tried replacing the villagers and the crops multiple times, do you know a way to fix this?
@@RaysWorks thanks, it works now.
no matter what i do villagers keep suffocating. i don't think this works on 1.20.2
Thank you so much, very useful :)
My villager have hearts but then the harts turn Grey and no baby is made . How to fix?
Replace the beds
why does the villager lose its job when i break the secound composter and wont take the other compsoter
Does adding more villagers (and beds) increase rates? I don't want to afk 2 hours for a single branch of a trading hall
@@RaysWorks so higher rates require more cropland, got it
The villagers in the breeder are making hearts for a while, but then they make the angry particles and stop. They are yet to actually breed. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Sadly - the villagers clip through walls before floating up and either suffocate or escape (if built in the air) :(
As well - baby villagers are able to reach the nearest beds on rare occasion.
@@RaysWorks did you find a fix im having the same issue of villagers suffocating when they grow, they teleport into the wall instead of above the slabs
@@RaysWorks same here, would love to get an update on this
@@RaysWorks I noticed there are sometimes 3 baby villagers, which also makes sense, they take 20 min to grow up and when skipping nights the parents should be able to produce 4 babies (2 per day -> 4 per 2 days = 20 min)
@@RaysWorks saw it happen with only one villager there just now as well
Saw an earlier comment he made about widening the water collection by one block. I took this suggestion but then the adults were getting stuck on the edges, so I added two more water streams on either side to push the adults to the chute in the middle. Seems to be working. No more suffocating and no more getting stuck so far.
My villagers are getting stuck outside the final 2x1 hole when there is 1 or 2 villagers occupying it.
can the villagers be named for this? I named my villagers so that way they didnt despawn when i was getting them from the village to my house but they dont seem to be doing anything.
EDIT: I got new villagers with no names but theres only 1 composter and they are both farmers, does the farm still work if they are both farmers and if not, why is the other villager a farmer.
d
My farmer villager is managing to get into one of the beds, and I built the farm in the exact way as in the video. Any idea why?
do u have to put only 1 type of crop
nothing above beds trap doors correctly mob grief on help
