Imagine being a 16 year-old, knowing very little of Pink Floyd's music (or anything else for that matter) going to an unfamiliar house, dropping acid for the very first time, and having this song coming through the surround sound speakers in a black light room. To say my mind was completely blown would be a vast understatement. I became completely obsessed with this album and this band, and have been for over forty years now.
For me it was magic mushrooms and an old battery operated cassette player with one cassette - DSOTM on one side and WYWH on the other. We were sat in a field on a summer evening tripped out of our trees, listening to those 2 albums over and over again and I think my brain was irrevocably changed that night. I went into that trip a child and came out of it a committed, obsessed, lifelong Floydian. Animals is definitely my favourite album though. I bought it the day it came out and I don't think a week has gone by since then that I haven't listened to it.
For me it was inhaling a hit of Orange Sunshine, a four way hit, mind you. About a minute later the dude dropped the needle on Echoes and I soared out of my body for the duration of the rest of the album. Been a die hard Pink Floyd fan ever since. To me David Gilmour represents the pinnacle of musicianship. What that man can do with one string,, bending it to its ultimate pitch is incredible. I was 21 back then, I’m 70 now and have requested that Pink Floyd be played at my memorial, having had to make those dreaded preparations due to a terminal illness. But I’m doing fine for now. Headphones are always within reach, Heaven at my command. 🥰❤️ Annie in Tennessee/USA💕💋
Animals is based on George Orwell's novella "Animal Farm". 1. "Pigs" - despotic dictators, politician, leaders; 2. "Dogs" - predatory owners, billioners, businessmen 3. "Sheep" - mindless common folk following leaders (religious, politicians... etc) "Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs"
The sheep overpower the dogs, but then they go home without adressing the problems with the system, and the Pigs live to rule another day. "Have you heard the news? The dogs are dead You better stay home And do as you're told Get out of the road if you want to grow old"
@@royalway12 well, its not like you can just choose not to participate in your country's economic system. Unless you want to be homeless. Do you think everyone that disagrees with capitalism should burn their paychecks?
Funny story here: I used to listen to this a lot when it was first released. One night I have it on and it gets to the part where the dogs are barking and howling. All of a sudden I hear howling coming from right next to me. I open my eyes to see my little shizu dog with her snout in the air howling her head off. She did it every time she heard this. She's been gone for years, but every time I hear this I remember my little loyal companion.

Front to back, this album (in spite of its relative obscurity) is probably their finest work lyrically (all great, but Dogs is the magnum opus). It really needs to be experienced in one single session to get the full emotional impact (although you really would have to be a Brit in the 70's to fully comprehend the social/economic/political impact).
Yes, it is about businessmen on the surface. It is about the entirety of our species, no matter the profession. Guys, I'm glad you discovered PINK FLOYD. At sixteen I already ate bread and Pink floyd now I'm 53 and when I listen to them I still get the crossroads. Good music to you
This song is one of the greatest songs ever.
My favorite album by Pink Floyd 🐕🐖🐑
“Sheep” next! 🔥🎶🔥
It's my favorite song of all time with my favorite guitar solo of all time with some of the most amazing and still relevant lyrics of all time. It's absurd how good it is!
I’ve listened to this song literally at least 500 times in my life.
This is absolutely wonderful!! You're right, Patrick, I think I would need to listen to it a few times to fully understand what is completely going on but it's a really fascinating piece of music. I think my mind is a bit blown actually! Just wanted to say I've always liked Pink Floyd but probably haven't listened to them as much as I should have liked in the past few years. Since subscribing to your channel however, you have really rekindled my interest in this remarkable band and it's been great watching and listening to all your reactions to their amazing songs. I know that Pink Floyd is your most favourite band, George and I've so enjoyed catching up with them again. I have been watching another song from the Pulse concert, Run Like Hell and it is superb, I really love it! Brilliant, enjoyable reaction to Dogs, guys, thanks so much and for all the other PF reactions you've done.
Thanks Anne :)
@@broaction5343 Hi Guys, see you uploaded Yesterday by The Beatles about 15 minutes ago - not in the UK unfortunately, it says Video Unavailable. May be it will be allowed eventually! Cheers, Anne
They were trying to mimic the animals sounds with their instruments , and they really did it. This song and the whole album gets me every single time 😍
looking on UA-cam at SATANISTS REACT TO PINK FLOYD
Should be required listening for every High School Curriculum that covers George Orwells Animal Farm
Hey guys! This album is based on the book Animal Farm. All the animals are different professionals of the society. Roger water’s finest piece of writing is what I consider this
Have you heard 'amused to death' ? It's a fantastic Waters solo album
@@doscwolny2221 hey! I know about the album, I’ve added to my library but like I’ve slept on it for almost an year now, lol, I’m sure I’ll hear it today now
GENIOS!, temazo de PINK FLOYD!!
A true masterpiece!
Great reaction fellas!!! This song blows me away...every time. Masterpiece.
Парни, ваша реакция - бесценна!! Спасибо вам! / Guys, your reaction is priceless!! Thank you!
been waiting for this!
Me too :)
You two make my day more often than not - your real-time reactions are nearly the same as mine when I heard this for the first time almost 50 years ago..."what the fuck did I just hear", even after listening to PF for years before. Keep exploring - there's another world out there to be experienced.
Animals is the best album ever produced by the Great Floyd in my opinion ❤️💫☝️
It's a life lesson.
A most excellent song choice Bros. OMG! All the parts are so good it's epic. And how about when the dog barks start sounding like synthesizer? Such craftsmanship in recorded tones. But then Pink Floyd is known for that. And you are right Nick Mason's drumming here is epical. As always dug your reactions. Cheers!
One of the best guitarwork ever.
The Best song, The Best Gilmour
When you have the time,,,,get yourselves a doobie,,,or two,,,,get HIGH,,,,,and listen to the WHOLE album,,,,start to finish. You'll LOVE it even MORE,,,,trust me. 👍😎
So nice to know that there still is people who are listening to this. It blew my mind out 40 years ago sometimes close to madness
Pink Floyd are simply Pure Magic, and David Gilmour it's a true guitar legend with a powerful and angelical voice.
Finally, you have embarked on the album that represents society and class structure:
ANIMALS
You will NEVER see LIFE the same way again. I had similar reactions like you did brothers..
Welcome to the Floydian Fraternity 🤘
Your induction will be complete with PIGS ( three different ones)🤙
Pink Zeppelin, Great handle, You just summed up in one sentence what sometimes takes me 5 minutes (or an hour) to explain to those who just don't get it.
Best Album Pink Floyd ever made
I have listened to Pink Floyd all my life and spent years hearing new little pieces in tracks I had listened to many times. Good headphones are a must to really appreciate the music. I've been following your reactions and enjoying them very much.
Thanks for listening!
I am so excited to see this reaction of "Dogs" - You two do great reactions - I can't wait
Thank you :)
Music by Pink Floyd is the kind of music that will last for generations and beyond because they knew how to blend musicianship, lyric development, song writing, and creativity together in a way that transcends time, thought, and talent....✌️🔥🤗🎤👍
This was cowritten by Gilmour and Waters.
Album super atual!
I LOVE BOTH YOU DUDES BUT YOU ON THE RIGHT... YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF FLOYD IS ADMIRABLE! LOVE IT
