When you say 'synthesizer', I wonder if you're referring to the middle section where there is a 'pig' solo. That's Gilmour using a talk box with his guitar. Gilmour also plays the bass on this track, and 4 or 5 other backing guitars. This may be my favorite Waters vocals of any of their songs. Perfect song for him.
Flippin' heck, guys, this is an amazing piece of music! Honest to God, Pink Floyd are incredible as we all know but all the transitions for the three different pigs - wow! I've been reading about the Animals album and it's inspired by Animal Farm by George Orwell which is interesting. Really wonderful and I just want to listen to this song again to fully appreciate it. I think I'll maybe leave it until tomorrow though! You're right, George, Pink Floyd are a complicated band and it's incredible what they've achieved with their music and albums. Amazing show! By the way, I love your reviews and have become a subscriber. I have a lot of your videos to watch, thanks for them! Keep ‘em coming!
I completely agree-you do need to listen to PF songs multiple times to hear and get it all. Each song is a story or a part of a story. There are levels and depths to each song-the words, music and sounds all painting a picture-a story. And they do this with pure musical genius to create all their masterpieces. Yes, I am kind of a PF fan, lol.
You guys need to take a DEEP dive into First Generation Pink Floyd... There is a song that is tremendous in its original recording called "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". I, quite literally, just found out Nick Mason is still performing with a band, which he formed, called Saucerful of Secrets. Listen to this song as performed by this group. Be ready guys, if you do either version. It is truly "TRIP" music...
I remember one time I was traveling from one city to another by bus, in Argentina, I was playing the whole Animals album with my earphones on and everything, having quite a trip, and coincidentally when this song was playing I looked out the window and there was a track full of death pigs, that was so weird and amazing at the same time, the song plus the pig sounds while looking at the death pigs bodies, oof it totally gave the experience a whole new vibe, I mean what are the odds? That was crazy!!
The Beatles added "pig" sounds on their (George's) song "Piggies" from "The White Album." All four original members of Pink Floyd - Nick Mason, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright - recorded music literally right next door to The Beatles at Abbey Road Studios in London. Here's how Pink Floyd first met The Beatles: The chance meeting between the two bands happened on 21st of March in 1967 - coincidentally, the two bands were both working on their respective albums in Abbey Roads Studios in London; Pink Floyd was working on their debut, Piper at The Gates of Dawn, while The Beatles were recording what many consider one of the best albums ever made, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. They happened to be recording in rooms adjacent to one another - The Beatles were in Studio 2 while Pink Floyd was in Studio 3. Floyd were scheduled to record from 2:30pm until 7:30pm - as it were, The Beatles were due at the studio just as Pink Floyd finished their first shift. Norman Smith happened to have been producing Pink Floyd’s debut effort, and therein lies the connection. Smith worked as a studio engineer for The Beatles right up until 1965. Since the boys in Pink Floyd knew about this connection, they had virtually begged their producer to ask George Martin if they could pop into Studio 2 to watch the Fab Four work. Writer Hunter Davies, who was there, recalls the situation: “A man in a purple shirt called Norman arrived. He used to be one of their recording engineers and now had a group of his own, [The] Pink Floyd. Very politely he asked George Martin if his boys could possibly pop in to see the Beatles at work. George smiled, unhelpfully. Norman said perhaps he should ask John personally, as a favour. George Martin said no, that wouldn’t work. But if by chance he and his boys popped in about eleven o’clock, he might just be able to see what he could do.” Acceding Smith’s request, George Martin allowed Syd Barrett and his gang of creative artists to hang out and observe in the control room. Pink Floyd’s drummer, Nick Mason, recalls the momentous occasion: “We were ushered into Studio Two where the Fab Four were busy recording ‘Lovely Rita.’ The music sounded wonderful, and incredibly professional. We sat humbly and humbled, at the back of the control room while they worked on the mix, and after a suitable period of time had elapsed, we were ushered out again… They were God-like figures to us.” It is clear that Pink Floyd had then and still do have an enormous amount of respect for the Fab Four. Most importantly, they would agree with the sentiment that Sgt. Pepper’s was one of the greatest albums ever made; Nick Mason added: “They all seemed extremely nice, but they were in a strata so far beyond us that they were out of our league.” It seemed that Pink Floyd understood the importance of Sgt. Peppers as an era-defining record for the ‘Summer of Love’. Roger Waters shares his sentiments on the record: “I remember when Sgt. Pepper came out, pulling the car over into a lay by, and we sat there and listened to it. Somebody played the whole thing on the radio. And I can remember sitting in this old, beat up Zephyr Four, like that.” In the interview, he recounts the way he looked when he sat still, imitating his agape look. While the two bands, especially in regards to their sound, are very different from one another; it is a strange coincidence and a sure sign of the zeitgeist, that while one band was recording their debut and the other was recording their eighth and most significant record, both records are considered psychedelic records. This occasion will forever hold a special place in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.

Yes spot on. My girlfriend at the time bought me the album. When your ear doesn't recognize sounds your natural instinct kicks in. I was a huge fan of PF but listening to Animals was hard work. She kept playing it and then suddenly I was hooked. I've listened to this album 100s of times. There's always something else my ear picks up.
In case you're not aware, look up Mary Whitehouse. She is actually who Roger is mentioning in the song. A lot of folks me included, assume it's The Whitehouse lol.
Those distorted pig sounds were created by Gilmore by making those sounds through a mic with a plastic tube connected with the mic, which is held in the singers mouth that connects through an electronic voice box, which was also used to distort the voice sound along with the guitar playing combined near the mid to last part of this song.
I've been listening to this for 45 years since it released and I've worn out 8 tracks, cassettes and vinyl. And now.......they've released the 2018 remaster and it is outta this world. I bought all the versions and the 5.1 sacd is incredible as well as the blu ray version, where the video screen changes with the mood of the song. This album is in my top ten all time favorites........and I love watching your reactions.
Gilmour just squeezes the guitar, i mean each note and nobody can do that, He is the Real Guitar Master of all time. To play a musical instrument is all about to create music, it is not just to play notes like a crazy maniac and say nothing, that's the reason why David Gilmour is on the top from the most of good guitarists, he is the number one really, no doubt about it.
@@Frau44 That's why you MUST buy the album and listen to the stuff they don't play on the radio. That's where I've found the songs that I love more than the ones they played to death. It's always been that way for me with all music. You have to stop listening to mainstream radio and go take your own trip. Good luck and have fun! It's the most fun you might ever have musically!
B side, no but this band didn’t really do radio singles. They had a number of “hits” but their albums are designed to be listened to from start to finish. Back in the day, the only bummer was having to get up from your “FLOYD COMA” to flip the record over!

Just stumbled, literally, on you guys. First LP of pf I ever purchased was Piper at the gates of dawn. Saucer full of secrets. Meddle, Uma guma. All great but if you start at the beginning you can hear the future. People thought I was weird because the music was different, not main stream. An acquired taste so to speak. Speaking of such, you guys are an instant hit with me and my boys. You got the attitude. Way back when, people that talked like you were to be feared. Your accents I mean. But, people let go of their bullshit. I’m 68 , former US Army Airborne and me and my homie vets think you guys are are the s..t. Cool as f. Rock on and on guys. 🌎
David Gilmour uses what is called a “ talk box “ on this album . He sends the sound of his guitar into that box. This sends him back down a tube directly into his mouth. He goes out of his way to modulate it and send it back to us by means of the microphone placed in front of his mouth. You will see him using this system in the show PULSE during the song “KEEP TALKING”
Roger waters live doing this song is a must.... Great version live from Mexico on UA-cam. Brings this song a whole new meaning P.S. the goosebumps will probably go away after 30 minutes
Nice that you went right to the point. :) about music will always be there, will always sound good for a certain a group, however with the group from the 60's and 70's (hippies and psychedelic drugs and all) there were more than just Pink Floyd- ELP, Yes, Jimmie Hendrix, there are a whole slew of them that changed music's sound for ever.
Agreed. Its so leftfield from his other stuff yet so creative. He's proper operating outside his comfort zone...similar but different. Impressive on all levels

It is just so much fun watching you two react to the best of the best. You never know what's around the corner. You think you are prepared, but you never will be. There are more artists that create music you have to listen to again and again to get the full overview. You know Queen, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra (go for Boy Blue or Shangri-La). I had great fun, thank you! ❤
You both sound like we did 50+ years ago. Grew up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere throughout the 60s. Yet, we were introduced do Pink Floyd on the very rural country station. Purchased Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967 . Then in 1972 went to the dark side of the moon. I was fortunate to see nearly a half a dozen other concerts of theirs after that. You might be curious or not why a country station might play Pink Floyd in the 60's? A lot of their music has folk or country feel. Songs like grantchester Meadows or San Tropez. And for a totally different style Atom Heart Mother is a must listen. By the way AHM was Pink Floyd's First Recording in quadraphonics. Of course you needed a special needle. There were some 8-track players that were capable of quadraphonic sound as well. Of course today it is synthesized. I'm old my memory is fuzzy LOL. Seems like the mid or late 80s was a concert at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. (outside) They had schedule just one concert but did an encore concert the following night. That second night they were asked to turn the music down. The night before their music was heard inside Sky Harbor above the sound of jets. LOL Oh and they flew the pig as well. The concert was long as they covered all of their LPS.
The final Gilmour solo on this song is so aggressive. So full of rage and raw emotion. No other guitarist can get even close to that.
No other guitarist comes close in matters of creativity and passion. But the ones with rogers us + them tour can take it very well, I must say.

plus he had gotten a Heil talk box here and was learning to use it the same time as Frampton.
If you don't get stoned already, Pink Floyd will let you know what it feels like.
I love Roger's voice, so much feeling the way how he sings and pronounces his own lyrics it is absolutely amazing, Gilmour's solos are just from another galaxy, they are the best musicians ever existed in this world.
Pink Floyd forever.
Perfect song for him.
la trilogía animal hecha música, increíble tema, increíble album, increíble banda... only PINK FLOYD...
Gilmour's last solo is like him stomping on his effects pedals like Godzilla!
You definitely have to listen to this a few times! Many thanks for your reaction, guys, much appreciated.
The whole album was inspired by the book, not just this song. Animals is my favorite album of theirs 🤜🏼⚡️🤛🏼
@@lynnhoffmann247 Hi Lynn, yes I know, I've amended it - it's an amazing album!
@@annemaclean6634 👍🏼🤗
I’m with you, Animals is my fav too
@@lynnhoffmann247 Thanks, Lynn, you can never have too much Pink Floyd for me!
As early 20-somethings,we all piled into someones house with food, puff and drink, giant bean bags all over the place and put Pink Floyds new release on,all bought that day.
Play it,play it again, then discuss it.
This album floored us all.
Repeated listens bring great rewards.
My favourite Floyd work among many favourites.
Animals kicks Ass!! ♥️🎶🎸🎤🔥♥️ So glad you’re doing this!!
I feel very lucky that I was able to see them and at an outdoor stadium at night. Simply amazing and an awesome experience.
13:13 jeez you're a good brother, George, with that "prepare yourself for what's coming". 😀
Every time Gilmour comes in with that end solo, I think of Godzilla rising up and just TRASHING Tokyo lol. It's literally a monster solo.
Just wanted to let you know you hit the nail on the head when you said this is about politicians. You got it perfectly. Your review of Dogs too. I got to see them do this live back in 1977. Plastic blowup people and living room furniture floating in the air…. Giant blowup pig… during Dogs they had speakers throughout the arena that made the dogs sound like they were surrounding us.
Yes! That's my favourite songs from early Pink Floyd, together with "Careful with that Axe, Eugene".
Here's how Pink Floyd first met The Beatles:
The chance meeting between the two bands happened on 21st of March in 1967 - coincidentally, the two bands were both working on their respective albums in Abbey Roads Studios in London; Pink Floyd was working on their debut, Piper at The Gates of Dawn, while The Beatles were recording what many consider one of the best albums ever made, Sgt.
The “pig” solo was a Gilmour guitar solo as well but with a “Talk Box”! Frikkin awesome album!!!
Hello guys,
I am completely addict with your vidéos and comment.I am french, 48 yearling old, and I am à big fan of Pink Floyd.I have seen them in 1994, and Gilmour alone 1 Time, and Roger Waters 3 Times.
You follow Pink Floyd now, and you understand why their music is so good. Thanks for your réactions.
Pink Floyd is absolutely timeless music, that is why their songs are stil so good in 2021.
Continue with Pink Floyd, with delicate sound of thunder live 1988.And with Division Bell album 1994.See you soon again.Love you guys, bye..
Pink Floyd the masters of sound.
"His solos should never end." You got it!
My number one fav Floyd album,on an endless loop. Absolute masterpiece.
That's the genius of it! I've heard this at least 1000 times and I hear something new each time! GOT TO LOVE IT!
This is the album for today’s times, brilliant musicianship & message, and Gilmour stomping in with that solo at the end like a monster.. love it.👍 you have to do ‘Sheep’ now👌🏼
You just have to have love for the greatness of this slice of “Psychedelic Prog”
I going to buy this album. I should have had it A LONG TIME AGO!!
You won’t regret it
All thumbs up for ANOTHER Great song form the 70's.
I'm 62 and it gets me for 45 years.
Finally!!!
Yes! Been waiting for this :)
''almost worth a quick grin'' under rated and missed lyrics always get you in the end.... ''mmmm''
Sitting here stoned like a gravel road listening to this ear candy.
GREAT REACTION...!!!!
Best, craziest Floyd song ever! many memories here..
Such a fantastic song and album. So many great memories listening to this camping with friends in college.
You guys are killing it! I love this reaction :)
This album is an adaptation/interpretation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm
These Pink Floyd songs are B side, I’m not familiar. They are FANTASTIC!! I’m used to The Wall, etc. BRAVO! PS LOVING THE SET!!!
solo David Gilmour ~ "No Way Out Of Here", "Raise My Rent", "So Far Away" and "No Way".... I promise you will not regret it...!
Glad you like them! The most underrated album by them imo. (George)
@@broaction5343 I’ve only heard what’s been played on the radio. Wow, I’ve Missed OUT!!
Background starts as a slow beating of war drums and countered by peaceful people just living. But the pigs keep pushing. Need t-shirts that say dude g or dude p..
My favorite Gilmour solo. He also played amazing bass on this song.
Their movie The Wall! It’s mandatory! It’s just probably the best concept album of all time. No exaggeration!
Thank you for letting me relive this masterpiece with you guys.
ohhh Gracias por esto!!!!
Pink floyd does something not many bands do, they give you all the tools for your imagination to be reworked from us all losing it as a child.
Please react to pink Floyd's 'careful with the axe Eugene' it's a trip and a half xx
And Gilmors guitar work is brilliant.
Roger waters live doing this song is a must.... Great version live from Mexico on UA-cam. Brings this song a whole new meaning
P.S. the goosebumps will probably go away after 30 minutes
in Italy it's 1.16 am ....i want to sleep...in 20 minutes😉
Not sure if you're gonna sleep after this though ...
@@broaction5343 i go to sleep HAPPY🤟
i suggest you Sheep and Run like hell(pulse)
Nice that you went right to the point. :) about music will always be there, will always sound good for a certain a group, however with the group from the 60's and 70's (hippies and psychedelic drugs and all) there were more than just Pink Floyd- ELP, Yes, Jimmie Hendrix, there are a whole slew of them that changed music's sound for ever.
Marooned by Pink floyd please
I am a firm believer that Animals is Gilmour's best guitar work
You're not alone. I may not be from the UK or born during the Pink Floyd era but I too share the same thought 👍🇮🇳
Agreed. Its so leftfield from his other stuff yet so creative. He's proper operating outside his comfort zone...similar but different. Impressive on all levels
I agree. The solo on Dogs is one of his best ones.
best guitar work of all time*
You won't get an argument from me.
Big Floyd fan....I thought....Dark Side, Meddle, The Wall, Momentary Lapse, Wish You were Here. But never heard this before, and NEVER knew Floyd had ever used a voice box!!!! COOL!
Dogs are Predators, pigs are known as
Intelligent, sheep are passive.
Está claro que cada día os gusta más Pink Floyd. Yo vi en directo la gira pulse en San Sebastián (España) y es lo mejor que he visto en mi vida. Me gustan vuestras reacciones . Pink Floyd forever 👍👍
(outside)
They had schedule just one concert but did an encore concert the following night. That second night they were asked to turn the music down. The night before their music was heard inside Sky Harbor above the sound of jets. LOL
Oh and they flew the pig as well. The concert was long as they covered all of their LPS.
