    "Who was only a stranger at home": Brutal line that so many can relate to. The protagonist in this song is the DOG. The corporate shark that would stab his mother to achieve fortune and notoriety. For me, the most amazing part of the song is the last stanza of lyrics when Roger spits out the description of this man's life from beginning to end and what made him who he was.
    Genius level composition.

      La línea que más duro me golpea en todo el álbum. La instrospeccion es clave y la implícita estafeta que Gilmour le pasa a Waters que simboliza la predominancia en la pista, en el disco y hasta inicios de los 80's con el Final Cut

    For this genre of music, progressive rock, Rodger Waters is hands down the greatest lyricist period. No one else even comes close. So what do you get when you combine one of the most profound lyricist in all of rock, with arguably the greatest guitarist/vocalist in rock interpreting his genius - David Gilmour? Well, you get this. And you got it again and again and again throughout the seventies. Each album arguably better than the next. Nice job! Looking forward to your next "Pigs" reaction from this album.

    Also, both David and Roger sing on this. David starts it and Roger picks up after the break. Depending on how you look at it, they could be thought of as playing two different characters that are responding to each other.

    • @aidanstewart8923
      @aidanstewart8923 2 роки тому +4

      Correct. Roger starts from the line “Gotta admit, that I’m a little bit confused…”
      Definitely different characters.

    • @benfox2883
      @benfox2883 2 роки тому +5

      Agreed. I see the David sung parts as from the point of view of the corporate bigwig who has taken a young successor or apprentice under his wing, telling him how he has to live his life in order to become what he aspires to. In other words, how to win friends and influence people without ever giving his true nature away, that he is a blood thirsty trained killer who will stop at nothing to get where he wants to be. When Roger comes in, I believe the point of view shifts to the apprentice, now the bigwig himself, at the end of his life, questioning all he has known and done, and realizing it meant nothing in the end. He will die alone, friendless and no one will care, not even his family ('only a stranger at home').

      I guess I should have been more specific as there are many varied guitar skills. Whether it be technical prowess, speed, innovative technique, touch, etc. Clearly Gilmour isn't the most technical or the fastest. There are 25 year old guitar players on UA-cam that would eat his lunch. However, I would say his touch is second to none. I would also say that his innovation in technique was amazing in the 1970s environment. But it is his songwriting spirit or sense of note progression that strikes me most. Love him

    • @andyhebert8087
      @andyhebert8087 2 роки тому +1

      I get it, when i hear the word skill I think about talent but you were alking about the specific skill of being technical and fast. David doesn't have that skill but he's got the tone and vibrato which is also a skill. We just misunderstood each other man

    The guitar in this song did things to my body that no other song has, Gilmour making love to that strat and showing off his repertoire forever changed my idea of what a guitar should sound like. What the band contributed to music shall forever be remembered as what it is, the greatest band and music/lyrics ever assembled. They hit home in so many songs, they punch your gut with truth and soothe your ears with the sounds of the gods. Animals is the album that put them up there with the big boys of this beautiful thing we have, music.

    "And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around " -- not to overstate this, but is this not one of the wittiest lyrics in R&R history?
    Smart, deep and even rhythmic. What is it saying, anyway? That the power a politician has or once had that corrupted him cannot be done away with now? That he cannot undo the hurt he has caused others? Or and perhaps also that he has burned his bridges behind him, and if he attempted to burn down the harvest that he has sown, he would go up with the flames as well? Or is it that he loves the power that he accrewed over time and although he sees the rotten crop that has resulted from his ill-gotten gains, he will not and ultimately can not relinquish that power?
    Anyway -- enjoying your reaction to this song.
    It is truly a masterpiece. Your realization of how good the song is shines through your countenance. Us teens who heard this when it was first released had the same reaction.
    You appear to have knowledge on music production. I'm sure this adds to your appreciation of the material.
    The album Animals took me off guard initially.
    It had a heaviness to it. Even some spookiness.
    It also featured some drawn out musical interludes that seemed like filler to me. Along with the animal sounds, it felt a little gimmicky. But it didn't take many listens to get over these initial thoughts. Suddenly I couldn't wait to get home from school or work to listen to the entire album once again.
    The album now is one of my overall favorites .
    One of the most unique albums ever produced.
    Your commentary is well done. Your pauses are well timed.
    Edit : I see that you haven't made a video in over a year. And that you practice meditation and yoga.
    These things are dangerous. There is a spirit world, but those in it are not benign or neutral. There is only good and evil in the invisible world. However, the evil beings are skilled in passing themselves off as good. As "children of light." I have prayed for you and your family members. The One True God -- the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ -- will draw you and yours to His Son Jesus Christ and reveal the Gospel to all of you. If He has not done so already. Please repent and believe on Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and the gift of eternal life.

    I was lucky enough to see them perform this in concert in 1977. It was in a place called The madhouse on McDowell where the Phoenix Suns used to play. They played all of "Animals" all of "Wish You Were Here" and half of "Dark Side Of The Moon" for their encore!!! And Gilmore must have been on steroids that night because he was ON, they were all ON and played perfectly!! I've seen them four times, once in 74 for the Dark Side of the Moon tour once in 87 and once and 94 for the Pulse tour! One important note: I made it a point to go to those concerts to see Pink Floyd totally sober! Trust me by the time you got out of the concert you needed to find the nearest fast food restaurant anyway!! 😉 I've seen about a hundred concerts in my life and those four were the top four!!!

      I enjoyed reading your comments about your memories of seeing Pink Floyd Jon.
      Brought back many great memories of my own with probably the "greatest touring act" in rock history.
      I attended both nights, June 28 29 1977, at South Philadelphia's "Spectrum."
      The second night was the famous,
      "Roger Waters becomes ill, misses encores, but completes 1/2 of a song that would become a masterpiece", night.
      That June 29th show was when Roger was having stomach issues and was injected with medication that made his hands "feel like 2 balloons".
      He started writing, "Comfortably Numb" that night backstage. It would be on their next album, "The Wall", released 2 years later.
      We knew something was wrong when, "Snowy White", the 2nd touring guitarist, played the bass for the entire encores.
      I believe Dave's guitar tech played rhythm guitar, wile Dave handled lead.
      That show was an 8 out of 10, the night before, on the 28th was a perfect 10 out of 10.
      I haven't seen any concert since, that matches it.

I still to this day remember the 1st time I heard Dogs. It, along with Sheep, would be among the most listened to songs of my life. ( keeping very good company with a tonne of Tool songs....).

    It's such an overlooked album (because it's not darkside 2.0), it's a shame. It was honestly one of the major precursors to the creation of The Wall. There was an infamous incident with Waters while touring Animals, where he has a meltdown on stage and spits at someone in the crowd. He said to cope with it all he used to imagine a big giant wall between him and the crowd when they would perform. Also, if you haven't checked out their album Meddle, you should. The final track "Echoes" is where you can here the beginnings of what would eventually become their "staple sound" (just before they made Dark Side), and is my personal favourite track of theirs.

    First time watching you react. I appreciate your enjoyment of musical talent. You were born 30 years too late… I have a feeling.😎good thing it’s all available at a whim now. Different experience for sure compared to following these classic bands as they evolved through the 70’s and 80’s.

    Great to see an intelligent person react to Pink Floyd, they are a very special band. Their music takes you on a cerebral journey, virtually with every song. Yes you're right about their production, it's off the charts man, especially in 1977! Everything was analog too!
    There are restored and re-edited versions of their 1994 Pulse Concert, some of the finest performances of their songs that you'll ever see. Again, the production is flawless, the musicianship is flawless, the coordinated light show is flawless!
    Some of my favorites are, 'Comfortably Numb',... 'Sorrow',... 'High Hopes',... 'Learning To Fly',... 'Money',.. 'One Of These Days',... 'Run Like Hell', and more.
    I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1975 when they released 'Dark Side Of The Moon', I was 17.

    Wow! Pink Floyd and A Perfect Circle at the same time (two of my favourite bands) so much hype! :D
    I think you should consider hearing Porcupine Tree next (for me they are the Pink Floyds of the 2000s) I am sure you will love them! It is difficult to choose but probably their best albums are the "In Absentia" and the "The Fear of a Blank Planet".

    I really appreciate that you don't talk over the music like others do. Thanks!
    Orwell may have been a great Visionary and writer, but he's not exclusive! This whole concept album is timeless it's this relative today as it was decades or even centuries ago. History repeats itself. It does so mostly because those in control have always maintained control through deception.

    My 2 cents. The album is heavily influenced by Animal Farm. Which is an allegory for the dangers of authoritarian communism. Waters took it an remiagined it as an allegory for the dangers of capitalism. Dogs represented the military industrial complex and the state in the book. In the song they represent capitalists. The pigs represent politicians and sheep are the masses. My interpretation anyway. Not only my favorite Floyd album but one one my all time favorites.

    A fantastic reaction that stands out from many others. I would like to watch more reactions from you to Pink Floyd. You mentioned that you know The Dark Side of the Moon. So you don't know Wish You Were Here? You don't know The Final Cut? Meddle? The Wall? Division Bell? Momentary? Atom Heart Mother? All the solo albums? Oh! If you don't know all that you have the chance to go through a great jeurney.
