Hey! Which bass riff was your favorite? Which ones did I leave out?
TABS & Guitar Pro Files for this video are available here: www.patreon.com/NathanNavarro
Note: Many have asked why "Notes Per Second" is used instead of "Beats Per Minute" to measure each piece's speed. BPM is valuable for performing music, but it is not necessarily indicative of a specific part's speed. For example, playing quarter notes at 40 BPM is faster than playing whole notes at 120 BPM. The values shown in the video are derived from the equation, (total number of notes)/(time allotted in seconds). This is a more accurate representation of each passage's speed. :)
Ace Of Spades!
The last one definately!
Teen Town! But I would like to say: gooood job!!!
Fugazi's Waiting Room was my favorite! I thought that the Rush YYZ riff might be from an Opeth song! So, maybe you left out Opeth's Deliverance!
Classical Thump immediately came to mind. I absolutely lost it when it was at the end and you pulled out the power tool. Thanks for all the great works!

Changing tempos? Check. Changing keys? Check. Changing time signatures? Long playtime? Check. Changing musical styles? Check. This is technically prog.
critic
And that's why i like it.
I mean, to be fair even without that definition it still would be prog because there's actual prog songs in here too(roundabout perhaps the most famous example on the internet, though there's a bunch more here too such as yyz)
@@iota-09 How about Metropolis?
@@rpocc not too sure, I'm more about 70s progs and mainly the nieche stuff(happy the man, asia minor, carpe diem, Hands, gryfon, etc...) So... Yeah.
@zeb there's prog and there's prog, then there's dream thetre, prog means just what op said, but it's up to the artist to make it meaningful, compare yes, jethro tull, king crimson and genesis to many 2000s-ish prog bands and you'll see that there's been too big a focus on technicality over just making the song "be good" over the years.
...then there's math rock which is just... Well, it's a whole other beast where almost all bands use the exact same instruments, but that's kinda off topic.
@@tactical_potato81 Just because your ears aren't good enough to pick up on the nuances of technical music doesn't mean it's bad
I guess he had to practice for the last riff by doing... SPEED DRILLS!!!

@Eman Mann so?
Thats random! Going by his last name, I'd say roman.
i can honestly say that never in my life have i seen someone pull out a drill and use it to play their bass guitar. kudos to you man, that was totally awesome and unexpected.
Check out billy Sheehan
I was waiting for Hysteria, was not disappointed. Impressive, man!
Jennifer F I’ve been looking through the comments for 10 minutes looking for someone that recognized this
I absolutely knew muse was going to be in this and i absolutely knew it was going to be hysteria XD
Now I’m waiting as well
I was not disappointed
People way overrate how hard that song is to play
The Viraemia bit caught me off guard. I'm happy to see they're still being mentioned! Also funny to see it played with less than half the strings their bassist used lol
me too
Holy shit that transition from 85 to 86 went from zero to 100 real quick 😂
I can hear Ozzy shouting "OH YEAH" in my when he plays N.I.B
The fact that you added not even just Meshuggah and Mudvayne but also Origin, Viraemia, and Necrophagist makes this even heckin' cooler
We love you man. Your face in Meshuggah's Bleed - priceless. Top work yet again Nathan!!!!
Thank you, Aidan! :D Glad you enjoyed it.
13:36 These death metal bands definitely have doctors as their members.
I think Scott Plummer, the writer of this bassline, is a professor in psychology

He probably spend much time to make note per second calculation.

Very impressive but can you play smoke on the water?
Downy Bleach smoke on the water is harder than you think on bass
Devon Bustard bruh I play bass and I can play it with my eyes closed 😂 I'm not sure what basses you've been playing.
Downy Bleach well if you want to pull that, then I am in fact a jazz bassist that plays in two bands. And traditional jazz not the weird stuff that comes out now. I know music theory and all the fun shenanigans. I find smoke on the water to be a challenging piece “not for me now as I have played it many times” because of the finger positions and actual speed of the song. My comment was more directed at someone who didn’t know how to play the song at all anyways.
Devon Bustard ok do you want a medal? I'm just saying smoke on the water is one of the easiest songs for bass and is great for beginners to pick up and learn, I'm not sure why you got triggered by me saying it's easy
Downy Bleach lol it was a joke 😂
This video is where i originally discovered technical death metal i loved the aftermath bass line so i looked up the band and was just amazed at the incredibly fast tempo of it i didnt think it got faster than traditional death metal so thanks to this video for helping me discover a whole genre
That was pretty tight. Was not expecting to see bands like Necrophagist, Viraemia, and Origin!
13:48 BUT DOES IT DJEEEENTTTTT?¡¿?!¿?!¿!

dude your playing is so clean and neat, i LOVE IT
12:06 This is the best riff right here
Your sense of time is incredible. Perfectly in the center of every single beat. Amazing.
I love the way you show which effects are being used. Excellent video. You're super talented.
Watched through to the end. Worth it.
Love the video and your bass tone too!
I just found this and it's a really good piece to practice following along. Thanks for posting!
just purchased your 4-string book, middle of my my first semester at musicians institute, been playing for 20 years. love your videos.
Awesome playing
Yes new Nathan Navarro video!
Love the video and I especially love how you're grooving to some of the riffs!
Great job man. Lots of preparation in this type of vids, cheers to that!
Queen has the most unique bass lines. The Millionarie Waltz and Breaktrhu also have great bass lines.
I dunno, i think theyre kinda simple and not very intresting to play
Also the invisible man
Oh my gosh thank you so much for putting in Mudvayne
Great playing and I love the plethora of styles and genres. Raw talent
I love that bass. Wonderful tone and beautiful to look at.
"Ace of Spaces" lol
Doh! Sorry, Lemmy.
So amazing bro.
Love the Motown stuff.
Your Wooten technique used throughout this video is just ridiculously clean. I was never able to get it clean enough to take over for traditional style.
My deepest respect! This is awesome. I am also impressed about all these different sounds coming mostly... yes... out of your fingers.
12:06 Marcus Power. Never heard of this guy before, and holy shit do I need more. That riff is insane.
he's pretty gud
I recommend checking him life first, and then on studio albums
Those last ten took this up a notch, that's for sure. Was not expecting the Viraemia inclusion at all, haha. Hitting what I would say are three of the kings of bass right at the end was a nice touch too (Billy Sheehan, John Myung, and Victor Wooten, in no particular order).
I would also say Les is one of the kings, and you're right, those three have no "particular order" when calling them "Kings"!
Awesome stuff man!
You really nailed that roundabout riff man!

I had seen previous videos of yours, but with this one, you sir, just won my subscription. I had no idea you were so skillful! You should certainly do tutorial videos on some of the techniques you use on this video! Except for the drilling machine, that one's pretty obvious haha
From one musician to the other, love to see someone else jamming and having fun!
Well, that's it, close down UA-cam. This is officially the best video that has ever been, or ever will be uploaded.
Top Shockers well how about we keep UA-cam up so we can share this video with future generations
Been there a since the Pinn panelle days fav bassist still
Literally thank you just for showing us which pedal you use when used.
Nice work !!! I really like the misture of those different songs
No bass video would be complete without 12:50
Marc Wijesuriya damn straight
I really think that The Who's John Entwistle is one of the greatest bassist of all time and deserves to be remembered for more than My Generation. Songs like Pinball Wizard and Boris The Spider have great basslines
My Generation is an immortal song, specially because it had the first bass solo ever in a rock song
But yeah, Entwistle did a lot more than that. I want to add The Real Me and The Kids Are Alright
His best bassline is the real me imo
Great video, great riffs, educational and entertaining.
You played a lot of my favorite songs. I subscribed.
how do you have two Metallica songs, Iron Maiden, Meshuggah, Pantera, Necrophagist but not Peace Sells by Megadeth
Kernzzee 172 not only Peace Sells... Also Holy Wars, maybe one of the most fast Bass riffs
Because not everyone thinks alike or likes the same things?
Did you know everyone has their own individual taste?
