Nick barker is what made me listen to this band in the first place. To date, I still have not heard any other drummer with as much technical skill and creativity as Nick, besides maybe Richard Christy from Death. Many drummers have skill, great timing, and hard hits, but Nick separated himself from just another drummer with those attributes by having them as well as incorporating a mind blowing level of creativity in some very technical music. While it's hard to compare drummers, I stand by my initial statement, I've yet to hear someone play like he did.
Cruelty and the beast, dusk and her embrace, misanthropic euphoric puritania, spiritual black dimensions.... are best drumming albums, or best albums overall
yeah, Christy is upthere for sure. I also really like Reinert even though he might be a bit diferently styled. I'd be happy to be half as good as any of those 3
*I'm for Barker too, but we must be honest - Daray does great and absolutely decent job here!* He's a real pro and a very humble person. I toured with him for two weeks in one bus over Russia in 2006 - I played guitar for *Mortem* ("the Russian Cannibal Corpse") and he was a drummer for *Vesania* (with Orion from Behemoth on guitar\vox).
>Looks at comments too see peoples opinions about Darray's drumming > Sees only comments about Nick Barker and when he was DB Cmon guys , Nick and Darray are 2 different people. Sure he's gone , but Darray is doing a superb job as the drummer in DB . He nailed this song perfectly and even added his own flavor to it at 5:16 . I think Darray is a great drummer for DB. But that's just me. Darray keep on rocking man , and keep making those solid drum tracks \m/
I was going to leave a comment about Mr. Barker as well but to my delight everyone on here is practically laying on the floor begging for him, as am I...... Any serious musician recognized him with filth and he instantly gained fans, cruelty and the beast...... I distinctly remember my cousin and I staying up at night listening to puritanical over and over, he is absolutely untouchable. He is indeed to metal what Dennis Chambers is to jazz. If anyone could top him it would have happened by now, unlike like with jordison, the rev, Adler, haake, etc.... Which are all unbelievable talents, but Barker has yet to be replicated. Influenced, but not replicated. Simply because it's not possible, he has a gift given from god to play like that, and look how chubby....... He's clearly the lion in the prideland of drummers, may he feast.
Barker emulates hoglan and peart morphed in my ears however neither of the amazing drummers hoglan or neil peart could play his stuff i dont think ,no way hoglan can shred tom fills as ridiculously clean as nick and peart never played double pedal that style ever but those 2 with pete Sandoval spawned a beast ..."nick"
Never really got into the genre a lot but I do like this song a lot. Especially the drumming. Excellent drumming. Gives me Stewart Copeland/Buddy Rich vibes💯. A little Joey Jordison too
Dimmu Borgir always is fluctuating, i love that, miss of course Mustis and Vortex but...it is what it is, the biggest symphonic-black metal band with high quality studio composition and live performances
Okay. Saying Barker is the better drummer is on the same bandwagon crap as bashing on Lars Ulrich. They play the same songs and Dimmu is not technical. It's a medley of blast beats and double kick runs. That's it. Barker is a beast, no doubt. I'd choose him over Hellhammer anyday. But come on, they all do a solid job and Daray plays this song one to one.
Guys... Stop hype Barker and dont flame all dimmu drummers for not being Barker. There are tons of drummers out there who beat Nicks ass. He is a legend because of the creativity and the style he brought in the genre when he was able to play on a large kit, not because of insane skills. But that was 10-15 years ago. He needs an oxygen tent after Kings of the Carnival Creation on an untriggered kit.
Of course you can say that if you compare live profesional recorded clips of Barker making this song, with a one channel audio provided by the camera, the sound will not be ever the same, or the impact that has the song if you don't add a proper equalization, some pro-tools and triggers...
Hugo Pinheiro yeah and nick barker was kicked out after death cult armagedon... Idk wth "it's just a rehearsal" means but he is still not in the band...
Aretumis People are poiting fingers regarding his performance in this rehearsal, but he doesnt need to proove anything, since he is a great drummer in whatever band he passed. Latest Dimmu album is a good example on that. On a rehearsal you just need to follow the music, specially in this case, where the orchestra is the main purpose of training. In conclusion, and not taking credit out of any drummer, but since the first drummer, for me Daray has the sprirt and the skill Dimmu need, remembering the old days.
daray...it's written at the start....im guessing this is his profile as well given the name? drums for loads of bands including vader...he's a god damn brutal machine! have to say barker is legend though..
If Daray play the drums like in Vesania the song would sound so fuking sweet but sadly is not the reality, and Barker is truly a fucking god between the Black metal drummmers!
I don't know why everyone's so crazy about Nick Barker; every damn live performance I've seen of him sounds off and not in any way as tight as many other metaldrummers... Daray kills it!
+jamie miller Barkers cymbal work is phenomenal even by todays standards. If you go back to older cradle albums where he was allowed freedom of creation, some of the cymbal and polyrythmic work is breathtaking.
No offense, but that snare sounds awful...no, the whole kit... Sorry about this. :( It was almost painful to hear. My first, lousy quality Pearl Target snare had the same awful sound. (After Pearl I played on a Tama kit and it was f..kin' cool.) And if you play on drums in a serious rock/metal band, spend more on quality: forget the Meinl brand and their cymbals. They're cheap and and a piece of cr.p... (I also had Meinl, I know what I'm talking about.) Choose instead from the following brands: Paiste, Sabian or Zildjian (
Very nice work, but i have to say the rhythm @2:05 seems a little bit weak compared the original and the doublebass "fill" is not played the right way wich makes the job in this riff.
I doubt playing any more than chords would help to the band's sound when you have an orchestra at your back making all the arrangements, think about it
+Erik Montenegro In that case I still don't see what the point is in having him there. At least mustis was always playing like a beast, quick and technical, he made even the most basic chord progressions technical... yet this guy is just plain lazy. Mustis was a million times better than this guy. When this guy is on keyboards, the intro to "kings" is coming from an mp3 player Mustis played the intro himself on his Korg Trinity live, everytime. It was all live, not coming from a pre-recorded track...
In my opinion dimmu just used Barker to help get them where they had to go-to get to the next level up to a chart topping band where cradle was already going to then i think because he likes heavier stuff which wasnt so present on death cult as it was on puritanical perhaps the tenions were ramping up that and the crazy touring schedule most likely ended with some scars internally amongst them hes also a big dude id probably fire him via text message too merely outa fear of him killing me lol (very lame though)on dimmus super unevil part-what pussy wieners!!! Meh the bands is a washout now anyways looks good on them hahaha we will never know exactly what took place as ive heard so many stupid things myself...being British being hard to work with being a drug addict anxiety issues giving away merchandise to friends etc etc the mans a killer drummer no one can touch him and all the great drummers they have had reno tony darray hellhammer hoglan could nail his shit as clean and precise

Perfect comment
I like Nic too.

Hi! Nobody cares. Enjoy the video and shut up. Much appreciated- Everybody else on this video.

Daray is underestimated. hes much better than the most are believing
daray better than nick barker INDEED !
@@tor1189 you are a mix of troll with hater
@@tor1189 more technical drummer, Daray amazing
@@tor1189 Technically yes, but don't forget who wrote the drumparts..
You should see the version of Nick Barker, the drummer of dimmu burgir just before daray to see the difference, and compare between them
Best stick control I've ever seen !
Masterclass
Mm john Longstreth, James Payne, Ken Bedene, Mike Heller are a really tremendos stick controllers

*was in DB
+GHWORPLAYER SH (FOFIXPLAYER) that's literally the same fill what Nick played on the album. Daray just fucked it up a bit.
When metalheads hear drumming without triggered samples all over the place, they usually think it's a bad drummer
@@Oyhus no lol
I've never seen so much butthurt together in one place. Daray's awesome!
He is awesome, but I'd say the hate is more directed at the band for kicking Barker out, not for getting anyone else in.

He and Gene Hoglan kind of remind me of one another.
True

I love that Daray respected what Barker did and played pretty much everything the same. Hail Dimmu!
im not big fan of DM but this drummer is great thight and fast
2:15 so simple, yet so beautiful!
Epic drumming of my favorite song of all time, thanks Daray
Excellent. Must give these guys a listen now, obviously top notch musicians.
This is fair enough, but Nick Barker fuckin kills this stuff tho.. hehe
Never really got into the genre a lot but I do like this song a lot. Especially the drumming. Excellent drumming. Gives me Stewart Copeland/Buddy Rich vibes💯. A little Joey Jordison too

He's so cool! What a legend man, Daray.
The best drummer \m/ 🇧🇷
I'm sure his polka beat is outstanding too!
Fun fact is that Polka is a Czech genre :)
come back to Australia i saw these guys at soundwave before slayer was meant to play so so so good
Best live rendition I've heard of that song was Tony Laureano at Wacken in 2007.
Very good and simple! Good work!
beautiful drumming as hell :)
Nick Barker and Daray was the best drummers played on Dimmu! Hellhammer kick ass too...
on point!
This is amazing
Pięknie Darek :D
good job! good drummer !!!
POLSKA!!!! DAREK OGNIA!!!
Sounds fucking killer
Awesome man!!!
Weón bestia... Daray is a great drummer ;)
Очень классно! Зе бест!!
What a beast!!
Ja pierdolę....sami znawcy w komentarzach. Tak to już jest, że jedni grają a inni komentują. Niech ktoś powie, że z Polaków wyłazi cebula.
awesome drummer
omg whats the name that ride ???
Meinl MB20 Giant Bell Ride 22'
I see Galder... I wish I was in that orchestra.

Gorgeous
his breaks {fillings} are missing some strokes...whether by hands or kicks.
Missing loads!
what the fuck. I think Daray does his job quite well. At least he is not using triggers at his toms like Barker
There is NOTHING wrong in using triggers in the toms.
He does it very well
This is a great fucking drum track!!!!

Im surprised u cud find at least several ppl who were willing to do this. Most ppl hate extreme metal.
killer drummer ImI
Yea.. just trying to remember that is difficult as fuck.
Fucking kick ass
Not dressed in drag for this rehearsal?
Wow.. Is he drum machine? ;;;;
Faaaaaaantastic
Biggest mistake they made was getting rid of nick barker, he's too underrated in my opinion

hey to each their own, i think he's underrated.
Nick Baker had been gone for 9 years when this video was posted...people are very rude.
contrats Daray !
fucking solid drumming
Привет из России!
Well, he recorded the original version, so it's kinda logic.
Damn ure style is even more nice to listen to then barkers
Cool!

Lets hope the new album has drumming like this. The last album was boring as hell.
Hellhammer is the best one...but Daray is very good
It sounds bit like happy hardcore to be honest...
Join my band please lol
some time foults with the kick , but he is still a good drummer ... But NICK IS NICK!
a for effort
Me quedo con Hellhammer mil veces .
Actually Hellhamer was playing some stuff with dimmu borgir and he's better than Barker
+Diego Fernando Orozco Torres I would say that is personal preference.
+jamie miller Barkers cymbal work is phenomenal even by todays standards. If you go back to older cradle albums where he was allowed freedom of creation, some of the cymbal and polyrythmic work is breathtaking.
Hellhammer isn't that great live...
not even close
Barker was better
like if you are a drummer.!!!!
I bet 85% of the people that comment in this video are not drummers and the dont know shit about drumming.
Daray is a good drummer but Nick Barker is unique and faster.
Daray was drummer of Vader. He's much faster than Nick.
+Zephyroth Svartedøden Daray isn't faster than Nick.
That's bullshit
daray did a better job in Vader than in Dimmu Borgir

yeah i found it now, he begins all of his breaks with a single stroke instead of triple...and thats his weakness...
what a shame
I don't like this drummer at all, even when he is quite good... I actually have seen like a speed down on the tunes while playing live.
Their new keyboard player is pretty lame.
Look at his hands, he's hardly doing anything. Just holding plain chords.
Mustis was way more technical
I doubt playing any more than chords would help to the band's sound when you have an orchestra at your back making all the arrangements, think about it
+Erik Montenegro In that case I still don't see what the point is in having him there.

The Shapeless™ yeah sure, you must be right : )
+Erik Montenegro Do not believe me just cause I said so.
Look. Use your own eyes. See for yourself.

I agree barker was a better drummer for dimmu
Dimmu Borgir should just skip Barker's songs, it's an insult to his hard work that no drummer will ever come close to copying with covers.
Samus did way better.
Too weak compared to Nick Barker
Get used to it... Barkers not coming back.
Yeah my comment was just kinda of resignation
much better then weak overrated barker. DARAY and hellhammer the 2 best drummers of dimmu
inaccurate :(
No Barker 👎
He is not creative at all
